Moving Collection Info Between Computers

Is there a way to copy collection information between computers (OSX)? For example, if I create a collection on my laptop can I transfer this "list" to my office computer (where all the original files of which the collection is a subset get transferred)or is it necessary to recreate the collection?
Thanks

You can copy the entire library file to the other computer along with the image files. If you have the same folder tree structure on both machines it should be seamless unless they have different root directories in which case you'll have to relocate an image for LR to find the rest.
The other way is to wait for the Adobe folks to put a binders-like functionality back into LR after it was lost between LR B4 and LR V1.

  • Moving Motion Projects Between Computers

My apologies, as I'm sure this must have been answered elsewhere - however I can't find the answer, so:
I'm moving a Motion project between two computers (Project file & media ) - I can do this easily with Final Cut Projects (you just relink the files) however - even when I "relink" the files in my Motion project - my timeline remains empty (unlike FCP, which will show the files):
What's the best technique to move Motion files between computers?
    Thanks In Advance

Good tip actually - but sadly, it isn't working that way!
I don't get it - could there be anything I'm doing wrong in the transfer/copy procedure? Is there some way I can change the mapping/references in the preferences from absolute to relative to the files?
    Thanks in advance

  • Moving Mac mail between computers

    Hi!
As I am considering switching from Entourage to Mac OSX Mail, I'm pondering this question: is it easy to move the e-mail archive from one machine to the other? In Entourage it all sits in Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities. Where does it all sit in OSX? Info would be appreciated... Thanks!
    Rad

    Tony,
    Haha! Thanks!
Now, since you seem to know this stuff, more help needed...
I created my elaborate mail setup on my MacPro, all tweaked and working (I confess: 14 different IMAP email accounts spread between 3 domains on my server. I just like things a precisely certain way, and emails to land in proper mailboxes).
I was ready to move all this to its proper destination, which is my MacBook Pro laptop - so I copied the contents of Users/Rad/Library/Mail/.. to the same folder on the laptop, rebooted everything, and... to make a story short, that whole setup DID NOT transfer. There is some chaotic structure with some bits and pieces, but definitely not a clean transfer.
Then I tried archiving mailboxes and importing them on the laptop, but in that case none of the actual IMAP account settings transferred to the Mail app.
So - any ideas on how to just move the whole mail setup cleanly from one machine to the other? Or it is not possible, and I will have to manually retype all the account settings again?
Your help graciously appreciated again! I will post this separately on the forum too...
    Best,
    Rad

  • Transferring info between computers

my old macbook may have finally died. The battery is bulging and i think its overheated. But it will turn on - with a power cord. I need to transfer files and programmes from that computer to a new macbook PRO. I cant operate the mouse or cursor on the old computer but the hard drive seems intact.
can i start up new computer so that i can see the screen and obtain info from the old one and then copy it across before the old one completelt gives out.
    Cheers

With the old computer turned off, connect the computers to eachother using an ethernet cable. Then turn on the old computer while holding down the "T" key, and keep holding the "T" key until it starts up. This will start it in Target Disk Mode. The old hard drive will (should) mount to the new computer's desktop. Then transfer away!
You can also use a Firwire or Thunderbolt cable
    I hope this helps!

  • Moving some photos between computers

I have a iMac and a Macbook Air. The iMac has my main iPhoto library. However there are lots of photos on my MacBook also.
I now want to copy all the photos from the Macbook to the iMac. 90% of them are probably on the iMac already, so those I don't need to copy. Is there a way to move everything from one computer to the other, and have it give me the option of not importing those photos that are already on the iMac (as it does when i import from my camera)?
My MacBook is out of space which is why I want to move everything, then delete them from the MacBook. But I don't want double copies of hundreds of photos.
    Thanks!!!

Is there a way to move everything from one computer to the other, and have it give me the option of not importing those photos that are already on the iMac (as it does when i import from my camera)?
If you import image files to iPhoto 9.5.1 using the command "File > Import to Library", iPhoto will prompt you if you want to import a photo, that is already in your library, but only, if the photos are exact duplicates.  You can then select to apply your preference to all duplicates.
So, if you export from your library on the MacBook Air to a folder and transfer this folder to your iMac, you will be able to avoid duplicates. It will however only work, if you export the originals and not if you export the edited version. The edited versions will not be duplicates.

  • What will happen? Moving photos/LR between computers.

I've been abroad in Spain with my laptop for half a year, and i started using LR after i came here.
I love it, except that it's a bit slow.
I have my pictures on an external USB disk and have LR installed here on my laptop.
Anyway, i'm going home in a couple of weeks, and i'm going to buy a new desktop computer to do image processing on, won't do that on my laptop again unless i'm going for a long vacation.
I assume i won't have a problem installing lightroom on my desktop computer(i realize that i only have one permit right? so i'll have to uninstall from my laptop i guess).
But how do i actually move my entire library of photos?
They are right now in something like
    Z:\Bjarni\Archives\EOS\yyyy-mm-dd
But will most likely be in something completly diffrent on my new computer, except that the EOS\yyyy-mm-dd will remain the same...
So, does lightroom store absoloute locations? or relative?
What would be the best way to go about doing this?

    >So i'm guessing that if i just copy this folder over to my new computer all should be good?
    Yes, copy the
    Folder containing the
    Lightroom Database.lrdb and
Lightroom Previews.lrdata file/folder to your new computer.
You can then connect the portable USB drive to your new computer, copy the image files across or just leave them on the portable drive. Either way, when Lightroom is launched the thumbnails will very likely appear with a
? symbol on the top right corner and the folder names will appear in red. This symbol is used to alert you to fact that Lightroom can no longer find the files. If this happens follow the guidance provided
    Here
If space permits I would recommend copying the image files across to your internal disk drive, but it's not absolutely necessary.
Hopefully you find the tutorial useful

  • Moving e-license between computers

Hi, having an e-license for acrobat 8 in one pc, need to move it to a new pc running windows 8, which came with pre-installed acrobat XI trial version. What should I do to move my existing e-lincese into the new pc?
    thanks

You would have to install AA8 on Win8, that will not necessarily work properly. A few seem to have succeeded, but it is not clear. The license is only good for the software you purchased. You are probably best to just buy the new AA XI and use that license.

  • Moving film footage between computers

I've been running a film camp for kids. We decided to use two different iMac's for editing. One is running iMovie 08 and one is running iMovie 09. We finished both films and have finished editing. Now we're trying to put both films on the iMac running 09 so that we can make one disk with both films and some footage from another project called "The Making Of" which is also on 09, but is a seperate project. My questions:
    1. How can I move the iMovie 08 film to the iMac using 09? Can I just make a DVD then copy it? Do I have to connect the two iMacs together and can I do that?
    Am I screwed?
    2. How do I get all of these films onto one disk?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    kokopelli

I don't use imovie8, so maybe someone else will chime in, but try this....
File export quicktime movie and use the apple intermediate codec--AIC. Click other and it will keep the file size the way you want. Make sure you select the right frame rate and click the sound button. Then in imovie9 do a file import movie. This will give you the movie as an event. You can then add that event to the project in imovie9.

  • ITunes Library shared between computers?

I have an iMac (OSX Lion) with two user accounts that are both sharing the same iTunes Library.  We now have a Macbook Air with the same user accounts.  The Macbook Air obviously does not have the same hard drive space and I therefore did not choose to migrate the library to the Air...What is the best way for each user to access the shared iTunes folder from the iMac?  I would like to do this while on the same LAN as well as remotely if possible.
I assume that simply setting iTunes up for "Sharing" will handle the local area question, but what about while we are away from home?  I assume that iCloud with iTunes Match would be the only answer?

Rented movies cannot be shared between computers. They can only exist on a single device at a time, and can only be moved from a computer to a player such as an iPod, iPhone or Apple TV. You cannot move a rental from one computer to another.
And yes, actually they do say that, in the Rentals FAQ, among other places.

  • Collection query for computers with windows management framework 3.0

    Hi,
collection query for computers with windows management framework 3.0, but I cant found a way. I cant see that it is in the inventory data for SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS_64.DisplayName.
So any way to get computers with windows management framework 3.0?
    /SaiTech

    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct on SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct.ResourceId
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct.ProductName like "Windows Management Framework 3.0%"
That won't work because as mentioned, it doesn't appear in ARP.
Torsten's suggestion will work or you can resort to software/hardware inventory using the info at

  • Sharing Aperture between Computers

    Hi,
Can anyone please let me know how I can share an Aperture 3 collection across multiple computers?
I have an iMac at home that is used by all family members for downloading photos from various digital cameras into (and I am sorry that I don't know the exact term) a folder that is readable through the finder, rather than into a bucket that is controlled only by Aperture.  This was done as not all of us use Aperture only to manage and manipulate our photos.
I then own a MacBookPro and would like to get photos from the iMac so primariliy I can see them on the laptop, but also so that if I want to, I can manipulate them on it as well and have the changes sync back to the desktop?
You'd think that'd be easy, right?  Nope, not as far as I can see.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks
    John

If you're not keeping the original photos in the library i.e. you've configured your library to use referenced masters, you'll still need to take a copy of (or the original of) the Aperture library (the database and other stuff you don't normally see) and work with that copy/original on your MBP.
The library will be much smaller (as it doesn't contain the masters) but approaches discussed above still apply.
Note also that moving your masters to a NAS will result in potentially annoying pauses while you're working with your photos, particularly if you're accessing your NAS via wifi. There's also a suggestion in the previously linked KB article that storing referenced masters on FAT32 can result in the files occasionally going offline. Another irritant is that your aren't guaranteed to mount the volume containing the referenced masters using the same path (similar to the drive letter assigned by windows). This means Aperture may not be able to find the referenced masters until you manually re-link them (in their "new" location) via Aperture.
I'd also note that no NAS I'm aware of actually lets you choose to format the shared volumes as HFS+ so don't be tempted to put the library on the NAS.
I've tried pretty much everything discussed in this thread. The only reliable solution I found after spending stupid amounts of time on recovering damaged libraries and money on network/NAS/servers is to use a removable disk.
