Moving Complete Keynote with linked media to a backup machine

Hi all, I am using keynote for a major live event presentation. It's mostly HD videos with PSD photos as graphics. I've designed the show so that everything is linking to my media. Everything is working great except that I need to have this running on a parallel backup machine during the show. When I copy the media to a new drive and then open the project I can't figure out how to tell keynote where the footage now lives. I get a progress bar that stay's on forever. How can I do this properly? Do I need to embed the media on the secondary machine? The file size will be in the 8 gig or more range. If I have to will I have problems running this live?
Thanks

You should have thought about that before installing the SSD.     Unfortunately when you have a configuration with more than one primary job, your backing up task becomes utterly more complicated.   Now you need a mirror drive for both drives, and/or backups more than twice the capacity.    Time to pair down the files you don't need frequently to some DVDs, or another drive*:

And I assume you are aware SSDs can't fully be erased?

    hi:
we have a dedicated server (Linux, Apache) with several
    virtual hosts:
    /vhost/site01/home/html/
    /vhost/site02/home/html/
now, i need to add some sites (developed by other people and

    created a folder
named microsites and a subfolder for each one:
    /vhost/site01/home/html/microsites/xxx/
    /vhost/site01/home/html/microsites/yyy/
and a FTP account for each developer
the problem is that one of them (HTML, Flash & a lot of
    Perl scripts)
was developed using links relative to site root so, they
    don't work anymore
besides changing every link to the new path, any other way to

Haven't used it since the DWMX time frame and that was only
for some quick testing, but an extension named Relativity can be
run site wide to change from one type to another:

  • I have a problem with linking media. I need help with the process

I can't seem to locate the media off my external or dropbox. I have the project file opened it's just offline and won't let me go back to locate it.

You need to ask in the forum for the program you are using

If you start at the Forums Index https://forums.adobe.com/welcome
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use

  • Drives missing when using Link Media

Premiere CC 2014 is not seeing two of my RAID drives when I try to Link Media that went offline.  It's a new menu box now, and I can't find any way to make it see two of my RAID drives.
But Premiere CC 2014 can totally see those drives, because I'm editing with other media on them.  And I can see those drives in Import.
Import menu box is on the left.                                    Link Media is on the right.  Drives missing.
Any thoughts?  Is this a bug?  I've already done a bunch of editing and need to be able to Relink 197 clips, not Import them and start over...
    Mac OS 10.7.5
Oh, and in Premiere CC, the Link Media menu is the same as the import menu, so this is new to 2014...
    --jon--

Thanks, Jeff.  Have rebooted multiple times.  The two drives are both hardware RAID 5.
I can Import from these drives as well as edit from them.  But when I use Link Media (after having moved media to a new folder in one of the drives), Premiere doesn't see the drives when I use Locate.  If I use Replace Footage, I can indeed see the two drives and replace each clip one by one.
I also have two external RAID 0 drives that Premiere CAN see when I use Link Media.  But it can't see the two RAID 5 drives when try to locate offline media with Link Media.

But when it opens, my AE comps on my timeline are "MEDIA PENDING" and not possible to open AE with the "edit original" command because it is grey
When I try to link the AE comp with "link media" command, Premiere crashes !!!!

  • Way to Not Import Linked Media?

Is there a way to import a fcp project file without importing the linked media?

I don`t know if this would help, but you can set each machine HD (were you have the capture scratch locally) as a device in FCSrv and let it scan. After that FCSrv will catalog, make proxies and if you upload any FCP file with linked media from that particular device, FCSrv will know that already has that media and will not re-import.
You just have to watch out for paths and names.
And of course you have to have all devices (paths to the each local hd) mounted on FCSrv machine.
This is not very good but I think it will work.
And remember... you can scan just one time or let it scan periodically. So you can scan scratch disk folder for new media and when FCP project with that media is uploaded to FCsrv those medias wouldn`t be copied/duplicated.
    Good Luck

I am having major issues with links in keynote! Even though the links (a navigation system) are on the master page, they are only working on some of my slides. Anyone have ideas on how to fix this or similar issues? Help!
I have created a navigation system on the master pages and set the presentation to links only mode. I also have other links scattered throughout the program, like a linkable table of contents, etc. Some of them work, some of them don't. Not sure why. Anyone out there having similar issues? Or have any idea on how I can solve this issue? Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

Links should not create any problems in Keynote.  If they are set up correctly on text, the text will be underlined. Objects that have links will have a curved arrow bottom right, if you click the arrow a popup will display the link information.
Try this repair for Keynote,  ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

empty the trash:  Finder > Empty Trash

Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.
    4
Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive

when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click  repair disc permissions

when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

install Keynote from the Mac App Store
let us know if this helped

  • Latests update adds a new tab with social media links to exsisting home pages. How do I stop this?

When I open Firefox, my homepages (4) are loaded, then after a slight delay, there a new tab appears with social media links and the new tab is active. I want to stop the new tab from opening!

Uh-oh, you might have installed an unofficial bundle containing the update. If your download history indicates the source, can you report it here?
Your "More system details" shows the MySearchDial extension. I recommend removing that, either from the Add-ons page (if possible) or from the Windows Control Panel.
    Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then find MySearchDial and remove it (or at least disable it).
If necessary, open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and click the "Installed on" column heading to bring recent infections, er, additions, to the top.
    Any luck cleaning it up?

If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • RAID DRIVE WON'T WORK IN LINK MEDIA BROWSER

I have a RAID 5 drive connected to my MACPRO (MacPro5,1), OSX 10.9.2. Its working fine on OS. In Premiere Pro CC I can import files from it no problem, everything seems to be fine until I try to link media from it. The link media browser won't access it. I can see it, I can see the RAID drives icon, but it won't access the files.
In the link media browser it won't show on the Local Drives list on the left pane. When I double click on local drives, on the right pane I can see the RAID HD icon, but when I click on it it won't open it. It knows its there but can't access it. I don't get it. I can import files from it, etc, but not link files. I would have to redo the whole sequence with files from that RAID drive and its days of work.
I would appreciate enormously any help with this issue.

    iMac 27"  3.4GHz w/12GB Ram.
    OS 10.9.5
    OWC Mercutry ELite Pro Dual.
    RAID 0
    Thunderbolt.
No adapters or daisy chaining going on.
The RAID is new and only has about 700GB of data on it.
I read on Creative Cow that alexojedav522 was able to figure out that the size of the drive was his issue:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/954245
After reading that I tried repartitioning my RAID into two sections of 2tb each (let's call them Partition1 and Partition2).
So Partition1 is just the original partition (which was 4TB) shrunken down to 2TB.
Partition2 is the brand new partition.
Oddly enough, I can access Partition2 via Media Browser just fine.
And when I move media onto it I can relink it as well).
But Partition1 is still not accessible via Premiere at all.
I am currently moving everything off of Partition1 and onto Partition2, so that I can at least relink my project and get to work.
But obviously that isn't a permanent solution.

  • Premiere crashes when linking media

    Hi there,
Premiere crashes almost every time I try to link media. The project file is on the computer's C drive, which has 1TB spare, the graphics card is using its latest driver and the machine is almost brand new. The media is 4K RED files on 2TB USB 3 drives. The project also has some old incarnations of the project subsumed in it via imports.
Please find the PC specs here:
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
    16GB RAM

If I can provide any additional information please let me know.
    Any thoughts are hugely appreciated.
    Thanks....

The newest versions of PrPro come with some apparently major code changes, especially how they apply some of the effects. In other words, the "apparent" effect is just the same, but the code to create that (and what it's **** behind the curtain) is apparently different, some things like that (much surmise here). The result is not all steps of all previous projects come "forward" properly. The footage, yes; the project's settings and effects, maybe, maybe not so well.
Kevin Monahan, staffer that frequents this forum and is EXCEPTIONALLY helpful here ... is a man of many years experience in pro video. He was a certified expert and trainer on FCP I believe years ago, actually on the design team for a version or so, and has done a lot of major editing work. He notes that no matter what anyone says about it, he ALWAYS taught the Bible of Pro Editing ... no project ever got updated software while in process. For the exceptions, a new project file would be created in the newer software version, then each asset or group of similar assets got brought "forward" individually and tested for proper operations. After everything was working, THEN the project could officially take off in new software versions.
With so many continual projects these days, and with continual "upgrades" of software, this is a right b*tch to follow. But still wise. Especially as a project nears completion, it's wise to leave it in whatever version it's in. For someone like me who's got one machine for all editing purposes, going back and forth between software versions is a much bigger pain than say if I had a pair of editing machines, one running newest, one just back a bit, and then leap-frog them as things move forward. There's also cloning and swapping discs as a way to change software ... and of course CS6 and any one of the CC versions can co-exist on the same machine "live" at any time. Multiple CC versions ... no. Only one CC version at a time.
USB3 may not be the reason for your crashes, but it could be part of the chain of events. The newest versions of PrPro as noted are heavier apps than before, demanding more resources ... and for that demand, capable of new tricks. Some of the Old Things they actually do differently, so what was once able to run the older versions has nothing to do with being able to run here & now. It's an unfortunate part of modern life with these blamed computer tools. One that someone like me operating on a rather smaller hardware budget than many of the folks who post here do finds ... difficult, rather challenging ... but there it is.
One suggestion ... when migrating a project or it's assorted bits & pieces "forward" ... I do suggest copying any assets no matter what they are (sequences, stills/graphics, footage, sub-clips, anything) into new folders created for that new project, then importing  them into the project as you copy them forward. Check out say, the footage scrubbed in the source monitor or what not ... the sequences individually scrubbed on the timeline, that sort of thing. If you hit a glitch it's easy to know what that glitch is related to rather than hunting through gigs of project stuff to find one dang frame or subclip or effect that's killing the whole thing.

  • Time Machine fails with "error while linking files on the backup volume"

One of my drives was nearly full. I moved some folders from that drive to one that had more space.
The next TM backup failed with "error while linking files on the backup volume". A full backup is about 620 GB, although this backup shouldn't have been a complete one. There was 570+ GB free on the drive.
A Disk Verify reported "Drive appears to be okay." Earlier TM backups appeared to be fine (at least accessible). I swapped the TM drive for another, initialized it, and TM used that drive with no complaints.
    What does the message mean?

  • How can I consolidate my itunes music with Windows Media Player?

How can I consolidate my itunes music with Windows Media Player?

Ah, did you move your media files by hand? Often doing so will have broken the links from iTunes to them.
The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
