Moving computer - what happens to my app data?

I'm moving from a PC to an iMac - not sure that's particularly relevant. Basically I want to sync my iPod touch to a new computer.
I'm not too bothered about music. My main concern is that i really dont want to lose my application data - I've selected the "Transfer Purchases" options, so I think my new computer now "owns" the purchases. However I'm still not actually syncing the apps - if I check the box, I get told "All existing applications and their data on the iPod "ipod name" will be replaced with applications from this iTunes library.
So how can I transfer the data too?
A completely different question... if I eventually upgrade from my iPod to an iPhone, can I then move my purchased applications *and data* to that?
TIA. Ian.

The application data is not stored with the applications. It is included in the iPod backup. If you restore your iPod from the backup, the application data is restored. When you upgrade to an Phone, you can restore it from your iPod's backup and transfer the data.

  • Deactiviation of my computer - what happens to my apps I bought before?

    Hello everybody!
I've already activated my ID on 5 computers. I only own my current one, which is the last one I've activated. The only button I saw in the options was "deactivating all computers". My question is: what happens to all the apps I bought before? When I sign in again after deactivating all computers, will I be able to download and update all the apps I bought before deactivating all computers?
    Thank you very much!

See this User tip for a backup strategy.
Don't attempt to sync your devices while the computer is not authorized for your account or iTunes will remove the protected content such as apps and lose any associated data. Simply deauthorize all, then immediately reauthorize the current computer.

  • What happens to the apps' data, if they were restored to a new device, but apps never get installed?

This is a super easy scanario.
Say in my old phone I have totally 50 apps, 30 purchased under Appel ID (A), and another 20 purchased under a different Apple ID, (B).
The old device is iOS5 and I turned on iCloud backup and back up everything (data of all apps).
I get a new device, restore from iCloud, wait until everything (photo, messages, settings, most importantly, data of all 50 apps) are restoed to the new phone.
The first thing happen after the first reboot, and it will prompt me to log on my Apple ID, to install apps.
What if, at this moment I decied to only sign on with Apple ID (A), and just don't want to use all 20 apps that I purchased under Apple ID (B) anymore?
Is the data of those 20 apps become leftover /  orphane on my new phone, and just no way to clean them up?  Please notice again, that I did not say "install app and then delete", I know that will clean up the data as well. I mean when data is copied over but app never get installed.

Game settings and other data is part of the backup:

A manual backup before you sync for the first time will save your content to the new PC.

ok here is the question, I know that if I sync apps to another pc they will going to erase and reinstall the apps from purchased apps section but what happens to the saved data or games.. as an example; I have Hay Day game.. the game is at a certain level right now and I want to keep it that way.. once I sync it, it will be erased and reinstalled.. will it save my game progress? or how can I save it?

  • After upgrading what happens to the apps on my 3G?

I just received my iPhone 4 and put my backup from my iPhone 3G on. It works fine, and there is no more AT&T service on my iPhone 3G. I intend to use the 3G as an iPod Touch. I understand the SIM card needs to stay in the phone for this, even though it is not activated with AT&T.
What happens to the apps that are still on my 3G? They are still working. I assume they will stay there until I need to sync. Then I will have to set up a new iTunes account, under a unique computer user name, for the 3G and buy the apps all over again for the 3G.

Nope, the apps stay there until you delete them.
I currently sync 2 iPhones and 2 iPod Touch units all to one iTunes store account, and per the Apple licensing, they all can run apps I have purchased. I had a similar question as you when I first started using multiple devices, so I sent an email to the app author for the app I wanted most to do this with. His response was that this is Apple's terms, so if I didn't want to purchase a second license to use his app on a second device, then I didn't need to (but he wouldn't stop me if I wanted to either). In the end, I found this app author to be very dedicated to his app, and very responsive to my comments/requests, so I did purchase a second copy of his app (yes, I had my wife create an iTunes account and purchase it under her account).

  • What happens to my apps, iTunes card, and iCloud storage if I change my Apple ID?

What happens to my apps, iTunes card, and iCloud storage if I change my Apple ID?

Depends upon what you mean by change.
If you update your existing account to have a new primary email address then you shouldn't lose any of the account's past purchases, balance, or iCloud storage - you may have to log out of the old version of your account by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in with the updated version, and similarly for iCloud (Settings > iCloud > Sign Out).
If you create a new account then your existing account's purchases, balance and iCloud storage will remain tied to the existing account, you can't transfer them to a new account or merge the new account with the old one.

  • What happens to my apps when I switch iCloud accounts on my phone?

I'm trying to switch the iCloud accounts from an old one that's acting up to a new one that I've created. When I started to, though, I got worried because it said something about Documents as I tried to delete the iCloud account that was already there.
When you change the iCloud acconts on your phone, what happens to your apps?
    1.Are they all deleted?
    2. If not, do they just stay and never get updated, or do they all reset?
    3. Is there any way I can transfer the purchases to my new iCloud so that I don't have to buy them again?

  • Sync with a new computer - any way to keep app data?

I recently purchased a new computer and imported my itunes library from the old one, but when I attach the iphone (3GS), it doesn't recognise it as the same library and appears to be warning me that all the data in my apps will be deleted. While quite of few of the data ones have backup options, I don't particularly want to lose the data from games where I have unlocked levels... Is there any way to sync the iphone to the "new" library and keep the data within the apps?

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you replaced your computer, your phone will be wiped of itunes content, but since you restored your library to your new computer, this will not be a problem. App data is stored in two places, on your phone & in your phone's backup. If you restore your phone from backup on your new computer, you will preserve your app data. Follow these instructions in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences, in itunes.
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in whatever programs you use for that purpose on your computer(address Book & ical). The entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, itunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go with all of your app data restored to your phone & you're now syncing to your new computer.

  • What happens on my activation date?

Hi, I just switched broadband to BT from Sky, and would like to know what will happen on my activation date???  Does my Sky broadband just stop?
    Sorry for the newb question
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As long as the activation goes smoothly (it does usually), then yes.  You may well find that you are without broadband for a short time, or even for most of a day if you are unlucky.   I think it was less than an hour for me when I moved from BE.
If the activation does not go smoothly then things can get quite bad.  The commonest reason for failure seems to be no-show by Openreach engineers.  Another one is BT screwing up the order and moving the telephone line over but cancelling your broadband order without telling you.  You can be without broadband for a few days, or in extreme cases for even more.  Read round the forum for a few horror stories and prepare for the worst just in case.
Make sure you have explicitly cancelled your Sky, not just asked for a MAC code.  Asking for a MAC code is not itself a cancellation; people often ask for a MAC but then decide to stay with the old service.  BT will then force a cancellation, and Sky may charge you a cancellation charge.
Good luck: I hope you are in the lucky majority.

  • HT2731 What happen to my apps if I create a new ID?

    Dear iTunes,
What happen to all the apps and songs that i already purchase using and old ID? Will it be remove from my iTunes?

you can still play your music and movies etc provided you authorise that computer for that account. You will be unable to update your apps from your new account.

  • HT1688 If I delete my apple ID what happens to my itunes data?

my daughter is using my old apple ID, and I gave her my iPhone 5.  I now have a Samsung Galaxy S4, I can't text my husband anymore, ATT said it had something to do with my apple ID.  We used to use the iMessage and now I can't.
please help.  What happens if I delete my apple ID so I can communicate to and Iphone from a Samsung and what happens to everything in my itunes account?
    Thank you

As long as you update your existing account with the new email address then you shouldn't lose anything, it should remain linked to the account. You can update the primary email address on your account via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and viewing your account, and via http://appleid.apple.com
After updating it you may need to tap on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and log out and then log back in for it to be 'refreshed' on it

  • What happens when I restore data to a non-factory set iPhone?

Okay, another iCloud question. What I did was basically delete a game, start a new one, and now I want my old game back (saved to ICloud). What happens when I restore full data to a non-factory set iPhone? Will it overwrite current data? Will it delete everything? I just want to know, I'm such an iOS noob. :-/

A restore is all or nothing.
If a backup is restored to the device, ALL data currently on the device is wiped and replaced with the data from the backup.
Restoring a backup to get one saved game back seems rather extreme and silly.

  • Fresh install of Lion, what happens to iPhone Apps?

    HI all,
I want to do a fresh install of Lion on my Mac. What is going to happen to all of my iPhone and iPod touch apps when I do this? Is there a way to back them up and then add them back to iTunes when I'm done?
I already have all of my photos, movies, music, Mac app .dmg's and documents backed up on a 1TB drive (not time machine, just manual). But what about my iPhone Apps?
I have spent a lot of money on these things and I do not want to have to buy them all again.

Try a safe boot by holding down shift key during boot
