Moving Contacts from I-Pod back to Computer

I recently purchased a new MacPro. I no longer have access to my "old" Address Book on the old computer. Is there some way that I can move my contacts from my I-Pod Classic back to the new computer or do I have to establish all my contacts manually again in the new computer? Will a simple synch of the I-Pod to the new computer transfer all of my contacts to my new MacPro?

1. Make sure iPod is set up to be used as an external hard disk.
2. Connect iPod to your computer. The iPod appears as a hard disk on your desktop or in a Finder window.
3. Open the iPod hard disk.
4. Open the folder named "Contacts".
5. Find the vCard for the contact you want.
6. Drag the vCard to the desktop.

  • How do I transfer Contacts from my IPhone5 back to my computer (windows)?  It crashed and I lost my contacts but I have them on my IPhone5 and would like to transfer or export them.

How may I transfer Contacts from my IPhone5 back to my Windows Computer.  I had a trojan virus and it wiped out everything including my contacts.  My IPhone 5 has the only complete list of my contacts and I'd like to have them back on my computer.

    Hi Jean167,
I'm sorry to hear you of your issues with contacts being erased from your computer.
You can copy them from the iPhone if you have iCloud setup on all your devices.
Here are some articles / information that may help:

    iCloud: System requirements
    PC
    Microsoft Windows 7 or 8

    Outlook 2007 or 2010 or iCloud.com
Safari 5.1.7 or later or Internet Explorer 9 or later (for iCloud.com and Bookmarks), Firefox 16 or later or Chrome 23 or later (for iCloud.com)

  • Question about moving music from an iPod to your computer.

In my household, we have iTunes on three different computers. My mother downloaded music on my brother's computer, and it's on his library. We want to burn a cd with the purchased album, but his computer does not have a cd burner, but the other two do. Is there a way to move music from one computer to another, or possibly moving music from an iPod to a computer's library?

Music is synced to iphone from itunes.
Plug in iphone and select whatever you like to sync from itunes to iphone.

  • Copy contacts from mi iPod to my computer

    Hello,
is it possible to copy all my contacts from my iPod to my computer?
    if yes, how?
    thank you.
    Peter.

It is absolutely possible. Connect your ipod to the computer. After iTunes recognizes it, go to the Info tab in the ipod screen. There you will see sections for MobileMe, Contacts and Calendars. In the middle you can sync your contacts with Yahoo, Windows Contacts, Google & Outlook. Pick the one you want. I assume you'd either go with Windows Contacts or Outlook since you're syncing with your computer.
After checking the box for "Sync contacts with:" it will default to all. Then at the bottom right of iTunes, the "Sync" button will go away and Cancel and Apply buttons appear. Hit apply. Don't worry, all of the contacts that are on the ipod that are not on the computer will be saved. It will essentially make both the ipod contacts and the Windows/Outlook contacts identical.
    Hope this helped.

  • How to retrieve contacts from a previous back up?

How can you retrieve contacts from a previous backup?

    Actually, this is correct.
I didn't write they were not included in the backup, just why they are part of the backup.
    -> iTunes: About iOS backups
"iTunes will back up the following information
Contacts* and Contact Favorites (regularly sync contacts to a computer or cloud service such as iCloud to back them up).
    * Your contacts are part of the backup to preserve recent calls and favorites lists. Back up your contacts to a supported personal information manager (PIM), iCloud, or another cloud-based service to avoid any potential contact data loss."

  • Whilst updating my boyfriends phone after backing up to iTunes it accidentally got disconnected. when reconnected it synced all contacts from my phone back instead. can this be reversed and his data retrieved ?

whilst updating boyfriends iPhone 4 it got accidentally unplugged from iTunes's .
when reconnected it starting syncing all contacts from my phone and did not list his phone in
    the devices drop down bar.
help everything gone from his phone and now he has some of my contacts and his phone says
its called Emma iPhone now instead of Tony's iPhone.
where has his back up data got stored?

Your only choice at this point is to restore your iphone. Since it appears from your post that you have never synced to this computer, you of course will not have a backup to restore from. That means your only choice is to restore as a new device & re-sync your itunes content. Unfortunately, all of your contacts, calendars, pics in your camera roll, etc., will be lost. Its not a good idea to use the iphone or any phone for that matter as a storage device, as things like this can & do happen. You should be syncing on a regular basis. The first thing done when you do sync is an iphone backup. You should also transfer pics in your camera roll to a supported application on your computer on a regular basis, much like any digital camera. You can always sync pics back to your phone, but if the only copies are on the phone, you run the risk of losing them.
See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

  • Moving songs from I pod to I pod

I have bought my daughter a new I pod for her birthday - how do I go about transfering all of her music from the old pod to the new one? Not all of the music is purchased as she has transfered songs from her CD collection too.

You can't transfer directly from one iPod to another. If the songs you had on your previous iPod are still in iTunes they will load onto your new one. You just need to connect your new iPod and follow the on screen instructions to register and name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like.
If the songs on the old iPod are no longer in iTunes you need to copy them back there so they can be used by the new one. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

  • HT1386 moving songs from an iphone to a computer

need help moving songs from an iphone to my computer

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use it to put everything back.

  • Transferring from i pod to new computer (without access to old computer)

Is there any way for me to transfer the content of my i pod onto my new computer without using the old computer? I am abroad and have no access to it at present. i have read the i tunes support sections, and understand I can have my i -tunes content from my old computer backed up onto cd then sent to me for me to then install on my computer here. However, if there is an easier way to do this then I'd be keen to know! Can anyone help?

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    iPod2PC Windows Only

iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
