Moving contacts from Outlook to address book on mac

I need help getting contact from outlook to address book on my mac.

I believe Outlook should have an option to export contacts as a vcard. do so, move the vcard to the mac and drop it onto Address Book there.

  • I can't import contacts from Outlook to Address Book

I've tried to do the research before asking this question, but I can't get this to work. How do you import contacts from Microsoft Outlook to Address book? When I try to export from Outlook, the only option I have is .csv file, it doesn't give me an option to export as a vcard. I've exported to a .csv file and tried importing this into Address Book as a text file, and it opens up a window called Text File Import. When I click OK nothing happens. I'm new to the Mac world so I don't know what I'm doing wrong or what I'm missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

One way if you are still accessing an email account with Outlook is the following:
In Contacts, click the contact you want to send as a vCard or select all to send all, and then on the Actions menu, click Forward as vCard.
All contacts will be added to a new message created as separate vCard attachments. Send the message to an email account you are accessing with the Mail.app on the Mac.
Create a folder on the Mac desktop or in your location of choice and save all vCard attachments received via email to this folder.
Launch Address Book and at the menu bar, go to File > Import and select vCards navigating to the folder that contains the vCard files sent from Outlook.

As I read this thread, I can see where the solution for Heather would qork for exporting maiboxes and contacts from Outlook (windows version) and then into apple mail or entourage. I have a tougher problem.
My wife is upgrading from an old Imac (OS 9.1.2) using Outlook Express5.0 to a MacBook. She has years of email and contacts on her old client.
I am familiar with exporting and importing, but I don't even see a choice for exporting messages on the Outlook Express client.
Can anyone help here? Geez, Apple should be at fault here for building such a reliable machine that we didn't' have to upgrade earlier. Just kidding.
    Thanks in advance,

  • How do i import contacts from iPhone to address book?

how do i import contacts from iphone to address book?

Ok, I knew it was a long shot.  The merge prompt normally is only available when you first sync your device.  I'm not sure how things got out of sync in the first place, but you may have to manually delete the contacts from your phone that you don't want there at this point.  I would try adding a new contact on your phone followed by sync to confirm that it's picking up new contacts though.
Unfortunately I need to go now, so if you're still having problems I suggest your start a new post in the forum to see if someone else can help.  Good luck!

  • Can I upload one contact from my iMac address book to my iphone from iCloud?

Can I upload one(1) contact from my iMac address book using icloud to my iphone without having to upload the whole address book??

No, it would upload (sync) your entire address book.  If you want to get a single contact to your phone from Address Book you can select it, then go to File>Export>Export vCard and save it to your desktop.  Then email the saved vCard (.vcf file) to yourself, open the email on your phone and tap the attachment to import the contact to your phone.

  • Unable to sync contacts from iPhone to Address Book...works the other way

I am unable to have changes on my iPhone reflect in my Mac's address book. For example, I would delete a contact on the iphone, but it stays there in the Mac's address book after sync. The worst part is that now on subsequent syncs, the contact is never added back to the phone or deleted from the computer. I am able to create as many contacts as I want on the phone and sync them to the address book, but just not delete modify them.
Creating/deleting contacts in the address book works.
    So far, I have tried:
    1. Resetting the sync history.
    2. Replacing all my iPhone contacts with those in address book.
    3. Unselecting and reselecting sync contacts from iTunes.
    4. Archiving my address book, deleting everything in it, syncing, and then repopulating it.
    5. Restoring my iPhone.
None of this has worked, and I am close to pulling my hair out. I just fixed issues with the new Safari bookmarks sync, and now this. Can anyone please help me fix this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the idea of looking at the Console. I've created new contacts on my MacBook and my iPhone, but neither is syncing to the other, in fact a new contact group I created in Address Book doesn't even show up in the list of groups in the Contacts sync window in iTunes. Here's what the Console says every time I sync:

  • Moving contacts from Outlook 2007 to Mac Address Book

    Hello all,
I've tried to email VCard attachments of contacts from an Outlook 2007 / Exchange Server account so I can import them into my MAC Address Book. When I look at my sent folder in Outlook, the attachment shows a VCF attachment. When I pick up the email on my MAC using Mail, the attachment always comes back as WinMail.dat which the Address Book doesn't recognize.
Furthermore, I've tried sending the VCard to a Yahoo email address and download the attachment. That worked fine.
Was wondering if someone could help me isolate where the issue may be. Thanks.

If Outlook Express provides for exporting contacts in vCard format, you can send all contacts as vCard attachments to a message sent to an email account you access with the Mail.app. Save the vCard attachments from the message to a created folder on the Desktop and then use the Address Book import feature selecting vCards.
If OE does not provide for exporting contacts in vCard format, it should provide for exporting contacts as a tab-delimited text file.
The Tiger Address Book includes a Text File import selection/option.

  • Copy contacts from iPhone to Address Book in Outlook

    Hi there,
I'm asking to see whether it's possible to copy contacts from an iPhone to the Address Book in Outlook, reason why I ask is that I am trying to help my Managing Director with his wife's Outlook issue as described in the following link http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-outlook/outlook-cont acts-wont-display-in-address-book/e7c919cd-3e68-4cab-9b21-4e0080827e21?tm=142262 7591302, if so please could you either instruct me on how to do this or to point me to some references on how to go about this.
    Kind regards,
    RocknRollTim

I have the same problem, sort of. When syncing iPhone with Windows Address Book, address entries that have more than one email address, get synced with only one email address. My only work around was to switch syncing address books from Windows Address Book to Outlook 2003. Now that iTunes 4 had messed up iPhone syncs with Outlook 2003's I've done one final sync with Windows Address Book, turn off the sync address feature in the sync window, and manually updated my address entries manually on the iPhone. I hope that Apple fixes this issue with Outlook 2003 soon, cause this is not why I shelled out $599 for a Treo upgrade!

  • Importing Contacts from Outlook to Address (not answered in archives)

This question will stump some of you! Before posting, I went gone through the archives and followed all the suggestions and have still not solved my problem...
I have moved to Mac from PC and need to import over 2000 Contacts from PC running Outlook 2000 to my beautiful iMac (17 inch with an Intel chip running Mac OS X 10.4.7). All these contacts are organised on the PC filed with relevant Category entries and also a great many of these contacts have lots of information stored in the Notes section. Therefore, I need to insure that any imported contacts maintain the data of their relevant Category (which hopefully will become relevant Group in Address) and also must keep all the Notes data.
The following suggestions came from me reading past postings on this bulletin board:
I have tried exporting all contacts to vCards from Outlook via sending them as attachments to myself but the attachments are winmail.dat with Address cannot import as vCards.
I have tried ABFiller on the .pst file generated by Outlook but the import to Address was corrupted and no contacts that were imported had any Category information or Notes.
I have tried Address Book Importer but this only brought over five contacts!
I have tried O2M but this too failed to import any contacts without losing the Category and Notes.
I have tried PST Import Tool but this too corrupted my data.
I have been able to sync my Palm with my PC and then my Mac using Missing Sync for Palm but none of the categories were carried over and none of the entries made in the year 2006.
    Anybody got any other suggestions???
I guess the problem is that I am using a Mac with an Intel chip as the above suggestions seemed to work for other people.
HELP!!! I am desperate to get my data into my Mac from my PC.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,
I have tried exporting all contacts to vCards from Outlook via sending them as attachments to myself but the attachments are winmail.dat with Address cannot import as vCards.
This is caused by sending your message as "richt text" from Outlook - if you send the message as plain text, the attachment(s) should come across properly instead of embedded within the dreaded winmail.dat file (IIRC, you will have to go into the properties of the recipient and unselect the checkbox saying "always send messages as rich text").
Alternatively, you can use TNEF's enough to extract the actual attachments from the winmail.dat file.
Another possible solution is to install Thunderbird on your PC. The first time you start TB, it will ask you whether you want to import your addresses (and messages) from Outlook. Once you have the addresses in TB, you can export them into a ldif file which you can then in turn import into the Address Book on your Mac.

  • Help transferring from Outlook to Address Book

My husband is working on a Mac in a PC office. Outlook addresses are stored on a network. Not on his computer. He's trying to import the addresses into Apple's Address Book. Apparently he can't export the addresses since they are on the server. He thinks he needs to export from Outlook, then import with Address Book. Any Window's people out there have any idea how to fix this issue?
    Thanks

Have someone else in the office who is using Windows Outlook select "Contacts" in Outlook.
At the menu bar, go to Edit and Select All to select/highlight all contacts (shouldn't matter if the contacts are stored on the server or locally) and at the menu bar, go to Actions and select Forward as vCard.
This will open a new message with each contact added as separate vCard attachment to the message.
Send the message to an email account that your husband accesses on the Mac.
Save the vCard attachments to a folder created on the Desktop or the location of choice and use the Address Book import feature selecting vCards as the import type.

  • Is there a way to copy e-mail contacts from PC to address book on IMac without manually putting in each address?

I am  trying to copy my e-mail contacts from my hotmail account to my address book on the Imac.  I have copied all contacts to a thumb drive (zip drive) to transfer to the address book, however, I can not find any information on how to copy from thumb drive to address book.  Is there a better way to do this?

Addressbook will understand vCard file format.

  • How to hide some contacts from Yahoo's address book?

I have recently acquired the iPhone 5 and am very impressed with it.  I like the idea of using contacts from the iPhone, iCloud, GMail and Yahoo and linking them together in a unified contact, very cool idea!
The problem that I have is that I have some contacts in my address book in Yahoo that are there just so that messages from those email addresses are not bounced to the Junk folder.  I want to keep them around but I do not want them clogging up my iPhone.
I can delete them from the iPhone but does this delete them from my yahoo account as well or is there a way of just hiding them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is a cop out, there is obviously a need to have unified contacts otherwise Apple would not have gone to the trouble of providing the feature in the first place.  The hole in the feature (in my opinion) is that it assumes that every contact in Yahoo, Facebook and GMail are equal when they are not.
I have a workaround but it is not pretty, I created a dummy entry and linked every email address that I am not interested in to this contact, so they are "hidden" as such in a single entry.  The problem with this approach is that it takes a long time to get everything in the unified contact (lots of scrolling), also, there is no way of managing this through iTunes (on a PC in my instance).
Bottom line is that it is a pain (you said that it would be) but there is no real alternative unless anyone else knows otherwise.
