Moving content from one iTunes a/c to another

My son has used my iTunes a/c for his purchases and he's now going to get his own iTunes a/c.
Is there any way I can transfer what he's bought to his new ID?
I don't want or need to keep the music etc on my a/c.
I'm guessing that this can't be done but any advice is welcome.
Many thanks.

This is Not possible.  Anything Purchased / Downloaded using Your Apple ID remains Tied to your Apple ID.

Does anybody succeeded in moving content from one content area to another area?
It is not possible using standard portal functionality.

We're planning some cross-content area operations for the next release.

  • Moving music from one iTunes account to another

I have music that I bought using my dad's iTunes account but now I have my own and would like to move the music into my account, under my password. Is there a way to do this?

Are you referring to an iTunes Store account? If so, it's not possible to transfer tracks from one iTunes Store account to another. You'll have to continue to use your dad's account ID and password to authorize any tracks purchased through that account.

  • Moving songs from one itunes account to another

    Hi,
When my ex and I were together we had one iTunes account which we loaded all our cds on to.  We have now separated and I have created a new iTunes account linked to my iphone.  I still have access to the old account which my ipod nano is currently linked to.  How can I move my music from the old account to my new account?  I still have the cd's but I have just bought a ipad and have no cd drive to burn them.
Would appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks
    Kate

Anything that you download from the iTunes store is tied to the account that downloaded it, they can't be moved to another account.
If it's music that was copied from CDs then they aren't linked to an iTunes account (unless you've subscribed to iTunes Match and uploaded them to it), if the only place that you have copies of them is on your iPod then you should be able to copy them back - there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to do that : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device

  • Moving files from one itunes account to another

    Hey there,
I was wondering if anyone can help me out. My mom got an ipad a couple of months ago and I just let her use my itunes account and she bought songs well now she got an iphone and I made her an account and I was wondering if there was a way to get the purchased content from my account to her account so everything will just be on hers and be done with it. Thanks so much!!!

No, store purchases are permananetly associated with the account they were purchased with (or gifted to). However the devices can hold "protected" content from up to five different accounts. Songs purchased within the last few years are unlikly to be protected so there should be no problem adding both the content bought with your account and the newer purchases she makes on her own.

  • Moving contents from one folder to another... what am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to move files and folders between folders. Can someone tell me where I'm going wrong?
The sourceFolder is hard coded using full path because the script is built on the fly and the path can be one of several folders that are constructed within a master application. The destination is user chosen. If I make the souce user chosen this script works so it must be something in the source path that is not right.
    set sourceFolder to "Mac HD/Users/devbox/Desktop/Projects/"
    set targetFolder to (choose folder)
    tell application "Finder"
move entire contents of sourceFolder to targetFolder with replacing
    end tell

Finder uses a different mac colon file path system than the unix slash delim.
    set sourceFolder to "Macintosh HD:Users:devbox:Desktop:Projects:"
You can also use POSIX path to coerce them from one to the other.
set sourceFolder to POSIX file "/Users/devbox/Desktop/Projects/"
edit: I reviewed the script and added the word "folder" to help the finder tell statement as well. Also could set the initial sourceFolder variable to an alias if you weren't ever going to use it as text.
set sourceFolder to POSIX file "/Users/devbox/Desktop/Projects/"
    set targetFolder to (choose folder)
    tell application "Finder"
move entire contents of folder sourceFolder to targetFolder with replacing
    end tell

  • Moving information from one e-mail address to another (Thunderbird)

I am trying to, if possible, move information such as (address book, messages, etc.) from an existing e-mail address to a new e-mail address. For example, [email protected] has all the data and information that I need. [email protected] is where I want to copy that data.
I have been trying to copy and replace the files for the correct folder but every time I restart Thunderbird, it does not load the appropriate information. Is there a way to do this at all?

Thanks for you reply! I see how you can copy/move e-mails from one account to another.
Here is what I did for the folders:
I created a new folder destination and pointed the local directory in the server settings to that location. Then, I copied the .msf and other files from one account to the new folder I created for the new account. When I restart Thunderbird though, it just recreates those files. I am assuming it is basing it on what it's retrieving from the server itself.
I guess to make everything clearer, I will highlight the problem that I am trying to solve right now. The situation is this: We have our e-mails hosted by a certain platform. They will be closing down soon and so I am trying to back up the data from those emails through Thunderbird. As we move on to a new platform, we will be creating fresh e-mail addresses. What I'd like to do is take the data from those previous accounts and copy them over to the to-be-created ones. My assumption was that I can do this by copy pasting the information in the folder for one account to another.
So, for example, I have a folder under ImapMail called TEST which contains all the data from my current e-mail. Upon connecting a new account, a new folder called TEST2 will be generated. I assumed it was as easy has copying the files under TEST and replacing the existing ones in TEST2 with the copied files.. but that does not seem to work.
I hope this makes things clearer. Please let me know if I can provide more information to help. Thanks again!

  • Can i remove purchased content from one itunes account to a new account?

i have 3 ipads on my one icloud account and my one phone my family shares the content on the 3 ipads.
I am getting my oldest child a i phone and want to move some of the shared content to her new phone and one if the ipads.to her own itunes account.
can i select some of the purchased content and move to a new itunes account?  Please help

Purchased content is permanently tied to the ID used to purchase it and connot be moved to another ID.  You can still sync it to her new phone from an authorized computer.  If she is moving to a different computer, you can also authothize the new computer for the ID used to purchase it, then use home sharing to copy the purchased media to the new iTiunes library, where she can then synch it to her new phone.

  • Moving Library from one internal hard drive to another

Okay, I am not a computer expert, but I have done my research thanks to these helpful forums. Basically, I have a Powermac G5 running 10.5.8 and the all of my photos within the iPhoto library (iPhoto 9) have taken over the original internal hard drive. I plan to purchase and install another (larger) internal HD whose sole purpose will be to house the iPhoto Library. This would be an expansion drive, not replacing the original HD, just adding capacity to my aging machine. So, after installing, formatting, and testing the new HD, my plan to move the library is as follows:
    1) with iPhoto closed, copy the 'iphoto library' from the 'pictures' folder in finder and paste onto new internal HD.
    2) while launching iPhoto, hold down option key and select 'choose library' from the menu that appears and then navigate to the 'iphoto library' that I copied onto the new internal HD.
    3) test that the transfer worked by moving the original 'iphoto library' to trash before emptying it.
I realize that this topic has been covered in these forums before. I think I did my homework, but would like for someone with experience to give me some feedback. Is this the best plan of action or am I way off the mark here?
Thanks in advance ... I really value the advice given in these forums.

    1) with iPhoto closed, copy the 'iphoto library' from the 'pictures' folder in finder and paste onto new internal HD.
Do not copy and paste - just drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the new drive - which must be formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)
    2) while launching iPhoto, hold down option key and select 'choose library' from the menu that appears and then navigate to the 'iphoto library' that I copied onto the new internal HD.
    Yes
    3) test that the transfer worked by moving the original 'iphoto library' to trash before emptying it.
Yes - and after you trash the old library test one more time prior to emptying the trash
And be sure to set your backup to get both drives

  • Moving data from one external hard drive to another ERROR-36

i got a new hp simplesave external hard drive, and i'm moving all my files from an older external hard drive (can't find brand name). Some of the files are bringing up error 36 which is something along the lines of can't read/write file. which is causing the file transfer to stop on that one file. there are a lot of damaged files so the file transferring is going very slowly. is there a way i can find out which files are bad ahead of time so i can get rid of them AND THEN transfer the files?

Well, since the MacBook with Tiger still has issues with the drive, I think it is some kind of hardware problem related to the external drive. I have numerous USB and FireWire drives connected (probably too many), and I've had no issues with Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard makes my older Intel iMac run better than when it was new.
Make sure you try connecting the drive to a separate power outlet, if it is connected to a power strip. It is also possible the drive's power supply is failing; that can cause the the improper disconnect message to come up, because the drive inside is not getting sufficient power. That is why you need to try the hard drive in a different case, or using the USB adapter, to eliminate possibilities.
Also, I still don't know if this drive is USB or FireWire, but be sure to try it with no other devices connected, in case there is some interference between devices.
One more thing you can try to rule out a problem with your currently installed system. Start up using the Snow Leopard installation disc; insert disc and restart with the C key held down. When you get to Installer's first screen, go up to the menu bar and, under Utilities, select to run Disk Utility.
At this point, you can just leave the iMac alone for a while to see if the drive gets ejected. If it does not, try making a Disk Image of the external drive and saving the image file to the iMac's internal drive. If that works, there may be some issue with your current installation (and you have a backup of the data). If it fails, then I think you have confirmed that the problem is with the external drive, not the iMac or Snow Leopard.

  • Use and update purchased apps from one iTunes store account to another?

I have two iTunes Store Accounts (Apple ID's) with the vast majority of purchases, music and apps, made on one account, but I've created a second account and wish to use it to sync with my iPhone.
Will I be able to continue to use and update the apps on my iPhone purchased with the first account?
    Thanks.

This sounds like the kinda thing Apple support might be able to help with. It's possible they might be able to merge the 2 accounts or switch user names around or something.
Apps and Protected music files are locked to one account. I don't think there is any way you(personaly) can transfer and/or updated them on a different account.

  • Moving Files from one Ext. Drive to Another?

I'm sure this can't be done? Right? That would be too easy.
I foolishly started capturing a project on a drive that was pretty loaded, and now I've run out of space on the drive. When I buy a new drive is there any way to transfer the files.
    Many thanks.

    Yes it is.
Try purchasing a fairly large drive for your Power Mac for all of your captures. New Egg has a lot of really good deals.
What I would do when I'm done with the project is place all of my project files from the second drive to a external drive mainly for a backup. If you have a larger hard drive you can even store all the files from your projects in the internal and external drive. That way if you need to make changes you can still access from the second internal drive, instead of needing to transfer the files from the external to one of your internal drives.
Confusing I know, but hopefully that made some sense to you.

  • Moving iphoto from one external hard drive to another...

I have read through several posts on this, but can't seem to get it to work still. I have tried holding down the option key while opening iphoto so that I can direct it from my old hard drive to the new drive location. So, I select the new drive from the list, but then the iphoto library within that new drive is not highlighted in order for me to select it. So, I'm unable to change the location for iphoto. Please help.

Just a thought but try going thru Finder and double-click on the new location to have it open.
This ides not work with iPhoto 08. With iPhoto 08 (unlike earlier and later versions) double clicking on a library does not open that library, it simple launches iPhoto at the last used Library. Hence my suggestion: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

  • HT4796 how do i transfer all my content from one windows 7 laptop to another?

i think ive transferred all the content correctly, but the music is asking to locate the file when i click on it.  how do i finish the migration so the titles are seeing the content?

Are you trying to transfer to a Mac or a Windows computer? Migration Assistant will usually transfer your Windows user account. Look in System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if that happened. If so, the files are probably in there. Login as the Windows User and see if you can find them.
If you can, drag the files/copy to the Mac Admin users Public box located at the Hard Drive Level/Users or to the Shared folder in the same location. You can then log in as the Mac user and put them in the correct place in your home folder.

Can I transfer purchases from one itunes account to another, if so how

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
Answering quickly, though, if you mean you want to transfer a purchase from one iTunes Store account to another, you cannot.
