Is there a pain-free way to copy my AE CS5 custom workspaces to CS5.5?

Pain-free? I don't know about that. Copying preference files from one version to the other isn't supported, but it may work. The workspaces are stored in an XML file in the preferences folder. You could try copying from the preferences folder of one version to the preferences folder of the other version.

Problem moving CS5 to new computer

I am trying to move my CS5 to my new laptop. The original media was on discs, and the new computer does not have a disc drive. I downloaded the direct download from the Adobe site, but it does not accept the original serial number. Does this have anything to do with it being an Education Edition? No, that didn't actually solve my problem, but it did lead me to compare files from iPod and my computer. I discovered that the iTunes Library file that was on my new computer was much smaller than the one on my iPod, so I simply recopied the entire iTunes folder from my iPod and voila! there was all of my music in iTunes on my new computer! Thanks for guiding the way into the light

Moving CS5 to new computer?

My desktop is starting to have problems so I bought a new one and need to move CS5 from the old to theDeactivate, I get the option of "Suspend Activation" or "Deactivate Permanently" I'm guessing I want to suspend, but would like to be sure. Anything else I need to know? Any pitfalls to avoid?

If you want to temporarily deactivate -- say while you install on an interim 3rd machine, use Suspend option.   If you want to donate your old computer to charity, use Permanently Deactivate.
Yes, you can still purchase CS6 but it's not being updated with new features and is now 3 versions removed from CC 2014. Don't get me wrong, CS6 is a very good product. I'm just letting you know what you're buying.   Creative Suite 6

Moving CS5 from one computer to another

How do I move my Creative Suite Premium 5 from my current computer to another one?

You don't move it, you need to install it on the other machine. You are allowed to hacve it activated on two machines if you want to keep it on the first one, but if you plan to remove it or simply do not plan to use it on the first machine any longer then you should deactivate it.
If you need to download the files for installation you can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site or else the download will not work properly.

Question about moving CS5.5 to another hard drive on same PC

I'd like to move my CS5.5 to another drive on the same system, purely a question of real estate on C drive, now crowded to the max. I have a 1 Terabyte drive that I want to move this suite to. I'm sure I would have to deactivate and uninstall before doing so and hope that CS5.5 can live on the non-C drive as well.
Outside of deactivating, what other factors might I be overlooking? Thank you in advance.

Bossman344 the Creative Suite 5.5 should support the custom installation. Please be aware that shared components and certain required resources will always be installed to your primary drive.

I have deactivated the application from my old computer. Now I don't see where, on the Adobe site, to start the download for my new computer.

Ghosting from top and bottom of the workspace edges when moving around workspace?

When I move around the workspace dark grey slightly transparent bars appear to be ghosting from the top and bottom of the workspace. If I move so they go off screen they disappear but more are made as I move around. Tried restarting Illustrator and my laptop, I have the newest version of Illustrator CC.
*Update - It appears to only happen in my one file, when an image I'm drawing over is put on a lower opacity. If I have it opaque there's no weird line ghosting, but as soon as I make it more transparent the lines start appearing.

All I am doing is the following:
import my mov file that is 1024 x 820
create a sequence that is 1024 x 768
export the sequence
I made a video showing the steps (very boring, sorry).
I'm sure there is something simple I'm missing. i'm 99% sure my result is wrong from the looks of it in the movie player.

Moving projects/Workspaces between machines

Ok, So I am split accross two sites connected via a wan - If I want to continue work on my current project(in the absense of any source tool), it makes sense to copy the files across to a local drive and run it from there Yes? - No, JDeveloper seems to know where the project was built and really really wants to run it from there... Does anyone know how JDeveloper knows soas I can stop it from going over the wan every other second?

Can you tell me the exact steps you took in JDeveloper to do this? i.e what you did in JDeveloper after copying the files to the local drive.
It's also worth looking inside the .jpr file to see if there are any absolute paths. JDev will store paths as relative paths whenever possible, which should make it easy to move your files around. But sometimes on Windows, this isn't possible. E.g. if you have a project on one drive and add files to it from another drive. Is there any possibility this has happened and your project file has ended up with hardcoded absolute paths to a mapped drive? This should be easy to spot in the .jpr file because of the drive letters.

Where does Bridge CS5 store the metadata files that are created under the Tools menu? I moved CS5 from one drive to another on my Mac Pro and lost all of them. I'd like to recover them is possible.

First of all, all Adobe applications really need to be installed and reside permanently on your boot volume, i.e. the same volume where your OS resides. There will be endless grief if you install the applications elsewhere.
Secondly, I hope by "moved" you mean that you deactivated CS5 and then used the Adobe Uninstaller to uninstall CS5, then re-installed CS5 from the original media, from scratch, and not just drag-copied the Application folder. And hopefully there's an OS installation on that other drive that will allow you to boot off that drive.
Third, you need to refer to your preferences in Bridge as you set them to find out whether you were keeping the cache in distributed folders or were using the central database, whether you were using separate xmp sidecar files, whether you had Export Cache to Distributed Folders set in Bridge preferences, etc..

CS5 updating problems

I have Premium Design and cannot update. I have looked through each simalar question with no help. I have tried going into adobe update webpage but told me it was forbidden to download. I get this "There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later." over and over again. The contact for help web page it brings me to this page, Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product" | CS6, CS5.5, CS5 ...
My serial number was copied and pasted from my adobe account directly from the website so it cannot be wrong plus I can use photoshop and all the other programs, so my serial number has to work. CS5 was on xp computer. That computer died and I moved CS5 over to my win 8.1 computer and it worked wonderful. Had to refresh my win 8.1 computer and reinstall CS5 and now the update will not update. I am also using wifi instead of my landline.
I have tried going into adobe update webpage but recieved this on all of the downloads

Since this morning I was able to figure how to download manually some of the updates from the website. But have only been able to install one out of the five. The rest gave me the same problem. I had my serial number checked to see if I had activated it too many times and I have not. So why am I having troubles installing my updates?

Eclipse blank grey dialogue box on startup, fixed with rm of workspace

I wanted to get coding today, but.... eclipse isn't starting up like it usually does. The splash screen pops up, it asks where I want my workspace folder, and then a small grey dialogue box pops up. It will never exit on it's own, pressing close does nothing, I have to kill it.
I tried running eclipse in a terminal in the hope it complained about a library error or something, but it's silent, it doesn't say anything back to me when run in a terminal. I'm not sure what other info to give you. It was working yesterday, and today it's not opening. I just shut down my computer after that day and started it up the next and it didn't work. So I removed the .eclipse folder in the hope that would clear some temporary data that was causing it, nothing.
I eventually moved my workspace and let it start fresh, it worked. Unfortunately, I need those files. Can I import the folder to fix this issue? How can I?

(more error messages follow which name the other libpixbufloader-*.so libraries.)
I can't open images anymore because the programs can not recognize the image format.
Therefore this seems to be a problem with gdk-pixbuf2. At least for me. Don't know how to fix this. Will try to downgrade gdk-pixbuf2. Will post results.
EDIT: Yup, that did the trick. At least for all the image related stuff. Eclipse starts fine now, I can see the wallpaper and the battery applet is working now.
Eclipse plug-ins are still messed-up but that's worth a separate topic.
EDIT2: I still can't figure out how that gdk-pixbuf stuff could make eclipse "forget" about the workspace.
Do you know what version last worked? How should I downgrade?

Xfce. Stick window to one workspace. Remove built in keyboard shortcut

Is it possible to stick a window to a specific workspace? The stick function i have found, sticks the window to all workspaceses. Not what I want.
Can I remove the built in keybord shortcuts? It is irritating that ALT+F1 opens the documentation in my browser(used to E-17 where it jumps to workspace 1), and also move the browser from one workspace to the workspace where i hit keyboard combination.

Perhaps I am simply being a doofus here but isn't the point of stickying a window so that it shows up on all workspaces? If you don't sticky it then it only shows up one workspace... which is what you want?
I might be the dofus here, but I dont se the point in having the same window in all workspaces. What I wanted was to stick Firefox and Thunderbird to workspace 1 and 2. So that I can clik on a link in thunderbird without firefox being moved from workspace 1 to workspace 2.

Somehow I cannot get the import tab on my screen! I seem to have moved the screen and cannot find a way of getting to the import button!

I have somehow moved the workspace on the import screen of Aperture
I am now not able to see the import button and also the full areas to fill in for keyworks etc
I have looked for a place to increase the screen but am having no sucess!
Help!!

Try - from Aperture's main menu bar -
View > Inspector (or Browser) > Swap Position.
Does that bring the "import Settings" panel back to its customary position?
