Moving Data from iPod to iTunes on new computer

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have a new computer and I am trying to upload the songs from my iPod to the iTunes on the new computer. I do not have the old computer to transfer from the old iTunes to the new iTunes. Is it possible to use the iPod to transfer the song files?

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

Moving songs from iPod to iTunes on new PC when old PC unavailable (stolen)

I know this has to be incredibly easy and I'm sorry for having to ask but I can't seem to find the answer. I have all my music on my iPod. Old computer was stolen and I want to move it to my new computer. What are the steps?

1). Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

Music from ipod to itunes on new computer

I recently had to get a new computer due to my old computer dieing on me unexpectedly. Ive got about 400-500 songs/videos on my Ipod and I want to put those songs onto this new computer in the new itunes I just installed. How can I transfer the music on my ipod to my new computer? Not all of the music/videos on my ipod are purchased, so I cannot just do the Transfer Purchases thing.
Any help would be appreciated!

The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. HT1399 sync music from ipod to itunes on new computer

I have a new computer and I want to import my music off my ipod onto my itunes. I have already set it up to not sync automatically and I have transferred my purchased music. My computer won't show me any of the files on my ipod so how do I get them into itunes? Do I have to load all of them again? My previous computer didn't have Cloud so my Ipod is my backup.

The iPod is not intended to be a backup device. You should move your music from your old computer to the new one, but you can also use "manually manage music" and use the iPod to do it.

Install iTunes on the new PC and authorise it.
Then you can copy across in various ways...

It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.

HELP ME PALEEEZE!!!! how to get music from iPOD to iTUNES on new computer

I bought this iPOD overseas and started the music downloading thing from the iTUNES on my friends' computer.
Now I'm back home in the states and have my own computer and don't have a clue how to get the music from my iPOD to MY computer.
How can I get ALL this music from my iPOD to MY computer? I don't want to lose all this music b/c I don't have the cd's b/c I got the music from someone else.
I'm new to this iPOD game as you can tell any help would be greatly appreciated. Please help me!!!!!!!

How to import songs AND all the data from iPod to iTunes?

Hi,
I am looking for a tool that can import more than just the music from iPod to iTunes. I have tried several apps to no avail. (many mentioned in another post here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1576568&tstart=15 )
I "upgraded to iTunes 9", but then my library disappeared the other night. All my music and video files are there intact, but the iTune Library.itl was wiped.
It gets even worse. Not knowing iTunes had lost my iTunes Library.itl content, I accidentally deleted all of the old library files (stored under "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder) and then de-fragmented my computer. So now the ".itl" file cannot be recovered in anyways as every data block on the HDD is overwritten.
Adding the music folders back into iTunes does NOT transfer all the metadata (play count, last played, rating, genre, last skipped, times skipped, track number, comments, artwork, lyrics, etc.). This information is VERY important if you have over 5k songs like I do.
Alas, there is another way to recover my library file. All this metadata information (as well as the music and video files) are available on my classic iPod with its massive hard drive.
The challenge is finding a tool that would transfer the metadata as well. And so far after trying 6 different titles none transfers all the metadata. They all change the "Date Added" field with today's date. The ideal tool needs to keep that field same as it is on the iPod.

Aniosoft iBackup Pro seems to be very user-friendly, but it's costly though, $40. http://www.aniosoft.com
They have a free trial version where you can backup 6 songs from each playlist, so try it out if you think it's worth it.

Moving playlists from ipod to itunes?

I've recently bought a new computer and ipod, no problems moving my itunes across, but the playlists (some of which took hours to create and maintain) are only on my old ipod.
Anyone know a way to move a playlist from ipod to itunes, sorry if I'm being stupid but I can't figure it out!

I won't lie, iTunes confuses the **** out of me. I thought I had it sussed though, clearly I was wrong...
Okay, got a new iMac when my last pc finally died. Synced my ipod to it no worries at all, never lost a song. I assumed it was because I had home sharing or because I'd authorised my new computer using my old apple id?
Now I have a problem though. This is the first time I've actually had a good look at what happens when I connect the ipod to itunes. It will let me add new music that I've burned from my cds. However, it won't let me save any of the previously burned music on this ipod to the itunes library, even though I used itunes and the same apple id to do it originally on my old pc. I want to do this so I can transfer some of the music to my iphone which has less memory (we have an ipod playlist and iphone playlist because of the memory available).
Is there a setting I've got wrong or is this because itunes legitimately believes I'm trying to infringe a copyright? I thought my apple id would mean they knew everything I'd done under that id before? Do I have to burn the cds all over again?
Pls ask me to clarify anything if I've not provided the right info.

A lot of content is available to down load from the purchased are of Itunes Store on all devices and computers.
If you do not use iTunes Match, I don't then the computer is your source of your own non purcased content. This you can share with 5 Computers and 5 Devices.
That is why it is important to keep a backup of this data so it can be restored to that computer or mover to a new one and you can resync it to your devices

Synchronize Data from iPod to iTunes

Always when I reinstalled my PC, installed iTunes and then synchronised with my iPod, afterwards iTunes and my iPod where empty.
How can I do it that when
- I reinstall my PC
- Install a new iTunes
- synchronise with my iPod (which has all the data)
that afterwards iTunes and my iPod have all the data?

If the logic board miraculously survived the smashing, is it possible for the techs at the Apple store to transfer her data from the busted iPad's board to her new iPad?

When an iPad is synced via iTunes, it makes an automatic backup of the device. This, as I said before, if the new iPad is connected to the same computer the old one was used with to sync apps and files, you can opt to restore the new iPad from the backup of the old one. This is an option which is only available when the iPad is first activated or if it is restored to as-new via iTunes.

I had to do this a few months back and was able to contact someone about this and I did it, but then my computer crashed and I had to get a new hard drive so I think I have everything on my ipod ready, but I just need to know how to put my songs back on my computer. I have purchased a new Toshiba laptop and installed Itunes. I have all my music on my Iphone 4. Can I directly move my music from Iphone to Itunes library on new laptop. The music was mainly imported from my CD collection - It was imported to Itunes on my old PC and then synched to Iphone from old PC. Unfortunately old PC has died without a back-up. Thus I need to transfer music from Iphone directly to Itunes on new laptop.

You need to copy your iTunes from your Old computer or its Backup to your New computer...
