How can I move a batch of files from one drive to another using Bridge CS4?

There are two methods.  One involves your operating system and the other uses Bridge.
Using Microsoft (sorry to you Mac users) have Windows Explorer open to the directory containing your files.  Click and drag the directory from one drive to another.  Conversely if you want to copy just a selection of the files follow this routine.
Create a duplicate named directory in the destination drive.  Select the file you wish to move and do so from directory to directory.
In Bridge it is even easier.  In Bridge ensure that the Folders sub pane is open and visibile.  Just click on the source directory and click and drag it to the destination drive.
Testing on my part (I routinely move up to 30 gigabytes at a time) has demonstrated that Bridge adds a little time to the process depending on the size of the source files.  I suspect that this has to do with additional overhead of the program.
To be safe I would recommend that you do use the copy method instead of moving the directory.  This is a failsae in case any problems crop up during the process.  It takes mere moments to delete the source directory after the copy routine has run.

  • Moving OS from one drive to another

    Hello,
I need to move my operating system from its original drive to a new faster drive. I am using a 350 MHz blue and white G3. My original drive is a 12GB Ultra ATA hard disk and it has OS 9.2.2 as well as OS 10.1.5. My new drive will be an Hitachi T7K250 SATA 250 GIG hard drive. I will also need to move all the data from the 12 GIG drive to the 250 GIG drive.
What would be the appropriate sequence of steps I would need to follow in order to move these two OSes from their original 12 GIG ATA drive to the new 250 GIG SATA drive?
I will need to format the T7K250, partition it and then install the two OSes on the new the T7K250. I would like to make a special partition on the outer edges of the 250 GIG disk for a fast scratch disk for large photoshop projects. Would I use Disk Utility in OS 10.1.5 to partition and when would that step be accomplished? I hope Disk Utility will give me an option to create a partition in the outer edges of the drive.
I will also need to reset the PRAM. At which point would that need to be accomplished?
I would also like to format the original 12 GIG drive at some point in the process so I could re-use it for something. I am not sure what the best use of the old slower 12 GIG ATA drive would be. Maybe I will use it for my stock photo collection because they are not accessed very often. What would be the best use of this old 12 GIG ATA? Should I remove it - if possible?
I would like to be able switch once in a while between OS 9 and OS X and I am not sure if it would be best to run OS9 in OSX's Classic mode or simply have the OSes completely separate. Should I install OS9 in a separate partition than the partition used for OS10? In the past, I have found Classic mode crashes a lot and so I just run OS 9 completely separately from OS 10. Maybe I will continue to work in this way if that is recommended. I hope to soon be able to completely abandon OS9. (However today, I still have some OS9 files I need to access).
I currently have OS 10.1.5. Should I consider moving to 10.3 or 10.4? I am on a tight budget and am not sure if I am willing to buy 10.4 at this point however is there a place someone could recommend where I could find 10.3 for a lower cost? You see, I am debating whether I should stay with my OS 10.1.5 or buy 10.3. Would there be much noteworthy difference (between 10.1.5 and 10.3)?
Thank you for any suggestions on the order of the steps I would need to take,
A quick note about my controller card: I will be connecting the Hitachi 250 GIG SATA drive to the b&w Mac G3 with a FirmTek SeriTek/1S2 controller that is both OS9 and OSX compatible. This card also supports a bootable system and enables a G3 to recognize large hard drives.

    Thanks again Kappy,
    I found this info:
    http://www.macgurus.com/forums/showpost.php?p=83012&postcount=7
"Whether or not your system (or your wallet) can accommodate multiple hard drives- always try to use a modern, fast hard drive for the Operating System. The basic speed of all processes- Photoshop filters and opening and saving files- is directly affected by the performance characteristics of the Startup System volume. If you need to format multiple volumes from this drive, always reserve the first volume for the Operating System. In disk-formatting software programs, the first partition or volume is always created on the outside of the hard drive platter, and is always the fastest."
However, as you indicate, maybe new drives are so fast that the difference between outer and inner track speed is insignificant. Maybe that doesn't matter today. Who knows. I don't have the time to pursue the truth to this any longer.
In any case, my understanding of photoshop scratch disks was incorrect (When you only have one drive, I thought it was a good idea to create a scratch disk partition out of it but in fact it is best, if you only have one drive, to leave the single large drive as just one large volume - keep the OS/apps and the scratch disk on the same partition [1]) Of course, it is always best to allocate a second drive for a scratch disk if you have a second disk drive however I am not in a position to do that because I only have one fast drive and so here is what I plan:
TOTAL: 250 GIG 7k250 7200RPM Hitachi SATA drive partitioned in two partitions:
70 GIG boot partition: OS, applications and scratch disk
180 GIGS partition: data and other "static files"
I should note that, yes, I also have the old original ATA/133 Quatum 12 GIG drive still in my computer - its probably only 5400RPM however and I didn't think it was fast enough for anything. However maybe I should reconsider it and use it for scratch disk #1? Then I could also assign my 70 GIG boot partition as scratch disk #2. Or is simply better to keep my 70 GIG boot partition as scratch disk #1?
You see I only have one fast drive and I am trying to make the best of what I have without having to buy another drive.
    Thanks

  • Moving cc from one drive to anothe on the same computer

I have installed a SSD and want to shift cc from the hybrid to the SSD without losing my download allowance, is this possible, and if yes how please?

i wouldn't recommend it but you can deactivate on your current harddrive (help>deactivate), then uninstall, then run the cleaner and finally reinstall on your ssd.  here are some details, http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Do some testing to get your method working right with some less than important footage.
Copy/paste files where you want then.
Use the FCE Reconnect feature to tell FCE where the newly copied files reside.
Make sure the new location and files are working as expected with your Projects.
Delete the original files if no longer required.

  • Can you move events from one drive to another easily?

I've just bought an external firewire drive to dedicate to my Sony HD camcorder material.
I've only imported 30 mins or so of stuff onto the Mac's internal drive with iMovie '08, and would like to know if anyone's managed to easily copy 'events' from one drive to another to merge/split content.
Is it just a case of copying event folders from the iMovie Events folder to the external drive, but if so do you have to specify a particular path?
Similarly, can you just move the individual 'Projects' or archive to DVD etc as they will invariably take up lots of space for longer footage? Does the projects file just hold references to the assembled clips, in which case moving events would scupper things as I seem to have several movie files in there already though these may just be things I uploaded to .Mac to test out.
This may all be a bit of trial and error. Hopefully clips are only references unlike the pretty huge but self-contained iMovie 6 HD project packages. This also raises issues about how to easily backup all your 'events'.
    AC

    Observation:
Just imported 15mins of video from the Sony.
When you click import you are asked which drive to save to.
As well as the Mac's internal drive, all my attached USB drives which are formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled) appear as targets to save to as well as teh Firewire drive.
I selected the Firewire drive and don't recall an option to create a sub-folder. After import a new top level folder of iMovie Events was created, but no others.
Presumably iMovie Projects/Shared folders only exist on the boot drive.
I'm assuming that this structure will allow you to share movie Events between Macs using external drives.
Again, an assumption but I suspect iMovie scans all available suitable hard drives and checks what content is available in top level iMovie Events folders for non-boot drives as well as this folder in the user's Movies folder.
    Rambling observations over for now.

  • Moving images from one library to another; or how to have 2 libraries open at the same time in Aperture 2

This may be something easy but for some reason I am having a hard time figuring this out. Basically this is the situation: I have a library on my MBP hd that I import pictures to when I am not hooked up to my external hd for the time being. The main library is of course on the external 2tb drive. How do I have 2 libraries open so that I can essentially drag and drop the pictures from one library to another? It would basically be like moving files from one project to another. Thanks for any help!

Always keep a backup of your original images, before you delete them. I make a backup right form the card, before I even import them to Aperture.
How are your images stored right now? Are the referenced or managed? On your big volume I'd consolidate the newly imported images, to be sure they are really inside the Aperture library before I delete any images outside the library.
but they have the little yellow triangle caution symbol on them and I can see them but not really edit them
That is a very typical problem, when you imported your images as referenced images then somehow delete or move the original master image files, that are stored outside the Aperture library.
Do you still have the original masters of the images with the yellow triangle that you cannot edit? In Aperture 3 you can point Aperture to the location of the master image file "File >Locate referenced image" - probably Aperture 2 has a similar command to let you reconnect your masters, if you still have them. Look into the manual.

  • Best way to copy large VM files from one drive to another?

Hi all, I am wondering what the best and fastest way there is to copy a large VM file from one drive to another (external drive to internal drive). Should the .pvm folder (in my case with Parallels) be zipped first? The files I need to copy range from 50 to 70gb. thx for any insight! ps. Even Bombich admits it's difficult for CCC to do...not clear why, but it does slow a full clone down to a crawl. I also have Chronosync at my disposal, but suspect the same is true there as well. Cheers!
    coocoo

I don't think it matters much which way you do the job. I use Parallels to compress by drives on a regular basis. If you want to copy a dynamic VM, which can grow to just about any size as required, to another drive you will use about the same amount of time zipping the VM - transfering the VM - unzipping the VM, as you would just moving the VM.
I've moved my VM files to a second partition that does not get cloned to my bootable backup that I create with SuperDuper. I've excluded my entire VM folder from Time Machine and just make zipped backups for each system after any large Service Pack Updates from Microsoft, or any intricate program installations. These get copied to a second partition on my Time Machine drive manually.
My VM's sizes are kept under control by using common Documents-Movies-Music folders for the Mac and the VM's. My VM's do not have the data files the programs use, they are on my Mac and get backed up every hour with Time Machine.
Reinstalling a VM just means deleting the broken copy, unzipping my latest backup, and putting into the same folder that Parallels knows to use. The data files are always accessible, even if they were created after my latest VM backup.

  • Plan to move photos from one drive to another - Need advice

My C: drive is almost out of space. I want to move my photos to a new internal hard drive.
In PSA SE 3, I've already tagged these photos. I want to know what's the easiest way to move my photos from one drive to another without losing my tags. Will "Reconnect Missing Files" find the moved files on a new drive if I keep my path the same (except for the drive letter)? Or will I have to reconnect the files manually one-at-a-time?
    Any advice is appreciated!

I might. I think I have MySQL installed at home. I have MS SQL Server at work. Is the application data file Access-compatible? I'd love to be able to just hack the underlying data store.

  • Copy File From One Drive to Another & Missing Keyword Tags

    Hi,
I use LR 2.7.  I want to copy one file from one drive to another drive with the same file name.  I thought you could drag the file, but it doesn't copy over the file in the other drive, can you explain what I have to do?
Also, I tried to import the folder into another drive, but it doesn't copy the keyword tags.  Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks
    Barb

    Hey Barb,
Well, if you use the Year/Month/Day/pictures_here  format, none of the folders contains a massive amount of folders.  It's not the number of folders that generates problems, it's having them all in _one_ folder that creates slow-down issues.  Imagine if you had a deck of cards; look for one card... you have to go through all 52 cards to find it.  But, if you broke it down into the 4 groups, you only have to go through 13, which is lots faster.  Now imagine going through 15000 instead of 52...
Look at the way lightroom can automatically import by date;  it has several preset formats.  If you pick one of those, then when you import new photos, it will automatically create any missing ones, and you have lots less to do.
Depending on how much work you have already done, you might consider making a new catalog and just importing all of your photos again, and let it create everything quickly for you.
You could save all of your "edit" changes by writing out all of the xmp files first.  But with 15000 files in one directory, this will double it to 30000 (one per image!), but will preserve all of your edits if you choose to make a new catalog approach.
As for combing catalogs, once you have one catalog the way you want it, you can select "import from catalog" and it will suck it into a new one, thus combining the catalogs.  The only problem I can see is that it will import it in the format you already have it, so you have to organize it manually before you import it.  Otherwise, you'll get your old format and your new format in the one catalog (but can then move pictures around if you need to).
Personally,  I'd go the 'write xmp files, create new catalog' approach.  Then just recreate my collections, etc.
But either way you do it, it will take some time processing, as that's a lot of files to start with!
    Ciao!
    Jason

  • Moving Image from one Review to Another?

I attempted to upload an image (open in Photoshop) to a specific review. However, I could not see the desired review in the Photoshop CS Review panel. Out of frustration - after attempting to "find" the desired review for several minutes - I uploaded the image to another review and then went online, using Safari, to Acrobat.com.
There is no visible means of moving an image from one review to another. There is a way of dragging one review (with all sub-images) to another location. But I can't see a way of moving a sub-image from one review to another review.
IF there is some "magic" that someone knows I would sure appreciate some education.

This works quite well for a single image review. I've moved them from one workspace to another. The issue is when a review has multiple images and you want to take only one of them from that review and move it to another review in another workspace; I can't seem to get that to work at all.
When I open a review and navigate to the desired image, then click in the lower left corner and select a new workspace to move the image to, it moves the entire review - not the single image - to the new workspace.
I guess I could delete the "part" from the workspace it currently exists in and then create it as a stand alone review, but then I won't be able to imbed it into another review as I want to do.
The source frustration here is that I can't get CS Review in CSPS5 to navigate to the desired workspace/review. I get "ALL REVIEWS" displayed but not the workspaces... Any ideas on how to display workspaces instead of reviews?

  • Moving Stack from one folder to another?

Is there a way to keep a stack together while moving it from one folder to another. When I grab the stack and drop it to a folder, I view the folder and the images are no longer in a stack. It would save me a lot of time if they would stay stacked. Am I missing something?
    Thank you.

Well your code is unreadable because you didn't post it properly, but I'd guess you've fallen into the old multiple-delete trap in a new way. It's like this:
To start with you have messages numbered 0, 1, and 2, let's say. So you write a loop that lets i run from 0 to 2 and delete message number i in the loop. What really happens? The first time through the loop you delete message number 0, after which you are left with messages numbered 0 and 1. The second time through the loop you delete message number 1, after which you are left with message 0 only. The third time through the loop you delete message 2, which isn't there and you get that message.
That's just a guess, I didn't have the patience to read that ugly unformatted code. There are two ways to do the multiple delete properly, if that's actually your problem: (1) run the loop upwards from 0 and always delete message 0; (2) run the loop downwards from N-1 to 0 and delete message i.

  • Moving Itunes From one computer to another

    HI,
Can anyone offer advice for moving Itunes from one laptop to another? The original laptop that has my itunes on it, has broke, it froze and will not operate. Rather that lose all my purchased music and playlists i would like to swap it to another laptop. Can anyone advise if this will be possible and how to do it? Both laptops have windows XP installed
    thanks
    Arlene

    Hi
I am having a similar problem- when I record from Itunes to a cd it only works in "Data cd" format in the advanced tab. That's okay, but when I re-insert the cd and try to import it, it doesn't show anything- it plays in Itunes okay. There aren't any little boxes to check for selecting any songs and if I try to use the import function, it shows as blank.(file type shows as .txt) I am using Itunes 6- would Itunes 7 help this?
thanks- I have a lot of music to transfer and this is a problem.
