Moving, Deleting or copying mov files...can't do  it!!!!

This is driving me crazy....I shoot .mov files with my Canon 5D mark 2 camera...up until now I have successfullly edited, copied, or deleted all .mov files...Now for some reason I'll put a bunch of files on my desktop and one or 2 will cause my explorer interface to lock up..showing a frozen dialog box attempting to move, delete or copy the files...I have to uninstall quicktime to move the files...then when I reinstall quicktime the same thing happens..When I go into safe mode I can delete the files but can't move or copy any files that reside in the same directory as the problem files...there's gotta be a reason for this...any guesses???
Steve

Well...your guess is wrong...I am not dumb enough to use any of the canon utilities to download or work with the .mov files...I am a very experienced vista user and have gone through all the various security and permission settings..it is definitely due to the installation of quicktime...I tried disabling all the start up calls for quicktime as well as a safe mode and limited start up boot..all to no avail...instead of telling me what you think I don't know how about sharing what you may know???

  • Delete partially copied movie file from iPhone. Shows grayed out in Videos on the iPhone but it doesn't show up in iTunes.

    Hello.
I have synced my iPhone 4S with iTunes and I got an error while copying one movie. Now this movie shows up grayed out in videos on the iPhone but NOT in iTunes. Hence, I cannot delete this partially copied movie from my iPhone. And since it is grayed out, the right-to-left swipe does not work. I have resynced with "no movies" option so that every movie would be deleted and indeed every movie was deleted except for the problematic one. I rebooted the iPhone several times in case it was a glitch. No success. I even tried tools like iExplorer and DiskAid but I cannot find this **** file. Is there any way to delete this partially copied file from the iPhone without having to restore it?

    Hi adtsalmon,
You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Here's the link to the Movie Rentals FAQs site FYI:

    Hope this helps!

  • I can not delete or copy new files to my Iomega external hard drive

    Hi,
I can not delete or copy new files to my Iomega external hard drive. Opening hard drive folder I can see that I can not overwrite it. I have heard that I need to install some program for the external hard drive to operate properly in Mac.
Please help what to install or there is some other option.
    Thnx

I'm not the expert on this since I have never done it. It sounds like you may need a data rescue program like Data Rescue III. I believe you can download a demo and see if you can see the files. If you can, then you can buy the program and retrieve the files. I don't know if Disk Utility can restore them--I think they have to be visible but this is not something I have ever had to do.
In the meantime, don't do anything with the drive--you don't want to overwrite any files. Hopefully all or most of the files are still there and you will be able to retrieve them. The less the drive is used, the better your chances are of retrieving the data.
Forgive me for not realizing that there were files on the drive that you wanted to save. Upon re-reading your question, I now see that there were. I should have known to warn you, and my bad that I didn't.
    Good luck!

  • Error message when copying .mov files

    Hello,
I'm trying to copy .mov files to back up from my desktop and from an external hardrive (250gb) to a new external hardrive (350gb) but each time I am getting the an error message saying the operation can not be completed due to unexpected error (error code 0). The files i am trying to copy are between 7gb and 20gb. Does anyone what what the error message means or how I can get around it please?!
    Thanks!

If you want to use large files you have to reformat it. It will erase any data that is on the drive, If the drive will be used only with OSX, format it as Mac Extended (HFS+) Journaled with the GUID partition table.
Start Disk Utility (Utilities Folder). Select the drive in the left column (be sure to select the drive, all the way at the left, not the volume indented below it). Select the "Partition" tab. Set "Volume Scheme" to "1 Partition". Click the "Options" button. Select "GUID Partition Table". Click the "OK" button. Enter the volume name and click the "Apply" button.

  • When you try downloading a movie from the internet whick movie file can you download

which file do you burn to burn a dvd

when you try downloading a movie from the internet whick movie file can you download
Depends on the web site. The site programmer can decide whether or on a file can be downloaded/can be saved to your computer. If he/she does not allow you to do this, then your can't download/save anything to your local computer.
which file do you burn to burn a dvd
Depends on the type of DVD you are making and how you plan to play the file. For instance, you can "author" the file so it can be played on a commercial DVD player connected directly to your TV or using a DVD media player on your computer. On the other hand, you could also burn the file to a DVD as a data file which can then be copied to a computer and played in a general video media player like QT. You could also burn the video as a data file to a DVD for playback directly from the DVD in a general media player like QT but then you would have to specifically encode the video for CD/DVD playback.
Suggest you do a little research on the internet to discover the options available to you so you can better decide which work flow best meets your DVD burning requirements.

  • How do I copy/move files?

What class do I use to copy/move files? I looked in java.io.file but I didn't see anything appropriate.

Thanks for the point about NT and AIX. The exact reason I'm looking at this is to develop a stored procedure in an Oracle DB which will assist with backup operations on both NT and AIX. Thus whatever I do needs to work both places. We already have OS specific scripts that I'd like to get rid of . . .

the only formats that can be synced to the ipod video is .mov and .mp4.

  • QT Pro - .mov files - can't copy/paste/export - opens browser

On a couple .mov files, when I open them, my browser opens also. As for the .mov files, I can't copy, paste, export etc.
Can anyone explain this, and is there a way to resolve the browser and other issues?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    thanks Terence,
So I went into Iphoto, selected the Trimmed Movie and selected. PHOTOS, revert to Original.
Now I can COPY and PASTE the MOVIE from Iphoto to a normal Folder.
I then opened the original .mov file in Quicktime and trim the movie.  I then go to close and save
"The Operation could not be completed, an unknown error occured"

  • Can't copy/ move files

IMAC intel with Lion.  My adobe photo downloader will not download pictures. Finder gives the pinwheel of death for even moving a single file to another file location on the HD. I can't print anymore.  Safari does not work properly.  I can't move file to USB drive.
I have rebooted several times with no change when I do these activities.
Is this an internal memory problem?
If it is - is there any way I can clean it up?
I don't know of any recent changes that may have triggered this.
    Thanks in advance.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    If problems persist...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Can't copy .mov files to another drive, get msg

    Hi
I've been trying to copy some .mov files (ext. isn't showing, btw) to another drive. When I do I get this msg, 'The operation can't be completed because the item "blah blah" is in use.
I also have gotten this msg when copying the folder: 'The operation can't be completed because the item ".DS_Store" is in use.
Then I tried creating a new folder to put them in, and I get this msg, "The operation can't be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -50).
QT isn't open. The only apps open are Firefox and Word.
I tried adding both drives to Spotlight's Privacy in System Prefs. No help.
    Any ideas?
    best,
    elmer

    Thanks for the reply!
    What is the 'DS_Store' file?
Am I right thinking Tinker Tool allows you to choose from that list of details on this page <http://www.bresink.com/osx/0TinkerTool/details.html>, and doesn't simply enable them all?
Thanks again, maybe someone else can chime in about why I got the other messages, tho maybe the ds_store was the reason for all.

  • Copy/Move files with FIFO-Buffer/Pipeline?

    Greetings,
I'm looking for a way to copy or move files in the follwoing way:
    1) select target directory
    2) put files in a buffer. the files will be copied/moved to the target directory one after the other (FIFO)
I think this would be a convenient feature for a file manager but I have not found one which works that way. Command line solutions would also be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Beezle

    karol wrote:Would 'cp something_1 somewhere && cp something_2 somewhere && ...' do the trick?
No, because I want the first file/folder to be copied/moved while I am still doing the selection in order to save time.
Sorry for the confusion. The files should not actually be copied into a buffer, it only keeps in mind which files/folders I wish to copy/move. When a new file/folder is selected, it does not start copying/moving immediately but waits until the previous files/folders are done. The benefit would be that no parallel actions occur (but I can still select files/folders at my own pace and copying/moving occurs while I am still selecting).
The rox-scripting idea sounds pretty good. I briefly tried writing a pygtk script but could not get drag and drop to work.
    Thank you.
edit: It's not like I'm copying and moving files around all day like mad, I just want to be as efficient as possible.

  • May have deleted part of MOV file

I was using Quicktime to play back a MOV file that I was transcribing, the file has now changed, part of it seems to be missing, is it possible to have accidently deleted part of the MOV while in Quicktime and if so, is there any way of retrieving it?

  • Best way to copy/move files in Java...

I am trying to write or use Java to create directories on the filesystem, based on user information to a servlet. Using the File object and calling the mkdir() method, this works really well. I would like to add the functionality of then moving several files from an existing directory to this new one.
I can certainly write some code that uses the Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cp a.html b.html")and issue a system command, but if there's a better way, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Jay

If you are implying that he use th renameTo() utility
of the File class, then that will only work when the
underlying system allows it - E.G., no renames across
mount points, hard drives, partitions, etc. Copy the
file yourself (with 7 or 8 lines of code) and avoid
the whole thing.I would be willing to accept these restrictions, but I never would have guessed that the renameTo() method would copy the file. That doesn't seem to make sense.
So you think I should just write code that issues a system command. I was hoping to avoid that because I dev and test on my Windows machine, then deploy to Unix. Is there nothing out there that handles file copies?
