Moving domain - BIS doesn't like it?

I presently use my domain email account [email protected] with hosting-company "A" and this is setup on BIS. Works fine, although for unrelated reasons I am in the process of moving everything to hosting-company "B". For all intents, it would be great if I could just change the IMAP details of the account in BIS to point at the new host, but for overlap purposes it's quite handy to keep both accounts running for a short while.
I've just setup the "new" account in BIS, but it looks like - because the underlying email address is the same - BIS wiped the existing account from the device before the new one appeared. Both still existed in BIS admin, but I had to delete the new account "B" to get the "A" icon back on my handheld.
Is this BIS behaving as designed, or am I missing something?

For the benefit of others, this does seem to be a design-thing within BIS. i.e. - you can't have 2 accounts on the same device with the same email address.
Once the "new" account is setup, it seems to become the master and the "old" one still works, polls etc - but all the menu options disappear and the service books seem to become "ignored". The only way of viewing the original account is through "messages", and you're still able to reply/forward anything that arrived on "old" - you're just forced to use the "new".
It doesn't seem like a bad thing to be fair, and it's only in instances of domain swings or server changes where this would become an issue.

  • BIS doesn't like my email server settings

I'm trying to configure a Blackberry to retrieve mail from a hosted account, but it continually reports that the details I've provided are incorrect - even though the exact same details work perfectly when I use them in a desktop mail client like Thunderbird.
The RIM Blackberry Internet Service site says it wants just four things to set up access:
my User name (e.g. jdoe, though I have also tried username @ domain.com),
    Password,
    Email server (e.g. mail.domain.com)
    and Email address (e.g. username @ domain.com).
However, regardless of what I supply, I get a pop-up saying the information is incorrect.
Yet this same info works for sending and retrieving mail through my T-bird client.
(I have no trouble setting up BIS to retrieve mail from a google account - so that should eliminate some lines of troubleshooting.)
I rang my (T-mobile) phone service tech support - and the fellow there said it was likely to be an issue with my hosting provider.
I contacted the hosting provider, who said their server settings are:
    SMTP/POP3/IMAP server: yourdomain.com
    Username: valid_email @ yourdomain.com
Password: the password for the above email address
    SMTP port: 25 or 2525
    POP3 port: 110
    IMAP: 143
    SMTP authentication: on
    SSL authentication: off
This correlates with what the BIS server wants -- insofar as there are no facilities for specifying port numbers and SSL -- so there should be no problem negotiating access.Yet the problem persists.
So now I want to hear from someone at RIM.
Unless someone here can help first!
    Any thoughts?

Hi zwood. I'm not sure I understand your point.
I presume it's POP, because the BIS setup doesn't allow me to specify port settings.
Put another way, I have Siteground as host, and my POP3 server is at mail.siteground.com rather than POP3.siteground.com.
So in the BIS field for server, I put mail.siteground.com. That's also what works with my desktop mail clients.
I haven't tried IMAP as there's no way to specify the port settings within the BIS config page.
I suppose I could - on the off chance that BIS knows what to do.
... Nope, that doesn't get me anywhere.
Or should I try POP3.siteground.com just to see if BIS is looking for exactly that character string?
    Hmm.
... Nope. That doesn't work either.

  • MacBook Pro doesn't like my 3rd gen. iPod

Just got a new MacBook Pro (work-issue = no administrator password for me), which replaced a Titanium PowerBook. Tried to hook up and sync my 3rd gen. iPod for the first time, using the Firewire port of course. (Music library has already moved to new machine.)
The iPod doesn't seem to be seen by the MacBook Pro. It doesn't show up in the iTunes source list or on the desktop. The iPod goes into "Do Not Disconnect" mode, then it freezes.
I've seen other people posting with similar or same issues, but no resolution. What could be going on?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Update: I have discovered that if I connect the iPod to the Mac with the Firewire cable only, things work perfectly. If I connect thru the dock with the iPod sitting in it (like I was before), things go haywire.
So I guess the MacBook Pro likes my 3rd gen. iPod just fine. The iPod dock is what it doesn't like.
Weird. Thanks for all your thoughts.

  • Create desktop quietly fails - doesn't like my ".portal" file

    Guys,
Since SP2, we're having trouble creating a desktop to "import" our ".portal" file.
After going through the sequence of clicks, it just comes back quietly but the
desktop is not there. It only does this if I "Choose a Template". It seems that
it doesn't like something in my template file but gives no indication of what.
If I revert back to an old template file, it works. However, I also re-created
a new template file from scratch and it won't read that one either.
    Any clues?
Is there some debug/logging options for Admin Portal?
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Jeff,
    Thanks for the reply.
The .portal file was created in workshop and workshop reads it fine.
I discovered that after deleting all my books and pages from the Admin Portal
library, it imported my .portal file successfully. I'm thinking it finds some
"Definition Label" conflict between those in the .portal file and what's in the
    library.

should be an error message listed there. It sounds like it's most likely

    Does
    it open correctly there?

How do i put a mobile number in on numbers '09? like 0414441472. Doesn't like 0 at the front. Thanks

    Ed,
There are a number of ways to do this. Your phone number consists of all numerals, yet isn't a numeric value, but rather a text value. Numbers doesn't know that, so it treats it as a numeric value and strips off what it feels is an unnecessary leading zero.
    You have there options:
Format the cells as Text prior to making the entry.
Leave the cells as a Numeric value format, but choose Custom Format to set the number of displayed places and choose to display leading zeros.
Use the Numeral System Format and set it to base 10, displaying 9 digits, or whatever you need.
There are ways to convert a number to text and add required leading zeros with a formula too, but it's needless work.

  • MP3-Library doesn't like some of MediaSource's ID3 t

Just a tip for MP3-Library users:
On rare occasions, MediaSource 3.30.2 will produce an ID3 tag that MP3-Library doesn't like. (This is pretty rare -- out of 45 tracks I updated the tags on, 6 did this.) This results in the file being displayed as corrupted. If you select "Analyze/Fix MP3," it finds a frame or two with random specifications at the very start of the file, followed by a single bad frame, and then all good frames.
If you check all availiable fix options (delete selected frames [check the junk and bad ones], delete garbage before st frame, delete garbage after last frame), it lops about 30 bytes off the end of the tag/header and takes a few good frames off the start of the file.
According to MP3Utility and EncSpot, there's nothing wrong with the files, and they play just fine in MediaSource, Winamp, and on the Zen. The header data that was destroyed doesn't affect the ID3 data. It only seems to have removed the Xing header. (No, I don't use Xing. LAME 3.97 alpha puts Xing-compatible headers on its VBR files.)
The following are the summary data that MP3Utility shows. This is from the original file, fresh out of LAME:
    <i>File size: 3,63,232 bytes
Offset to first frame header: 2,630 bytes
    MPEG version .0; Layer III
Bitrate: VBR (Xing); Sample rate: 44,00 Hz
    Channel mode: Joint stereo
Private: No; CRCs: No; Copyrighted: No
    Original: No; Emphasis: None
    Frame size: ,52 samples/frame
    Frame length: 47 bytes/frame (unpadded)
    Pad size: byte(s)
    Estimated frames: 8,945
    Estimated time: 3:54 (234 secs.)</i>
This is after importing the file into the PC Music Library and clicking "Update Tag." I didn't modify anything, just told it to re-write the ID3 tag:
    <i>File size: 3,63,232 bytes
Offset to first frame header: 2,630 bytes
    MPEG version .0; Layer III
Bitrate: VBR (Xing); Sample rate: 44,00 Hz
    Channel mode: Joint stereo
Private: No; CRCs: No; Copyrighted: No
    Original: No; Emphasis: None
    Frame size: ,52 samples/frame
    Frame length: 47 bytes/frame (unpadded)
    Pad size: byte(s)
    Estimated frames: 8,945
    Estimated time: 3:54 (234 secs.)</i>
And this is after MP3-Library "fixed" it:
    <i>File size: 3,629,325 bytes
Offset to first frame header: 2,600 bytes
    MPEG version .0; Layer III
Bitrate: 224 kbps; Sample rate: 44,00 Hz
    Channel mode: Joint stereo
Private: No; CRCs: No; Copyrighted: No
    Original: No; Emphasis: None
    Frame size: ,52 samples/frame
    Frame length: 73 bytes/frame (unpadded)
    Pad size: byte(s)
    Estimated frames: 4,96
    Estimated time: 2:0 (30 secs.)</i>
No, MP3-Library DIDN'T chop 04 seconds off the file. The estimated frame count and length are WRONG because the Xing header was destroyed by MP3-Library. This header would normally tell MP3Utility how long the file really is, otherwise it takes the bitrate of the first frame and extrapolates that over the file length. (Without this header, many programs' progress sliders won't be as accurate.)
So, if MP3-Library tells you a file is corrupted after going through MediaSource and the file wasn't corrupted before, DON'T fix it. You'll only make things worse. I've never seen MediaSource or my Zen actually damage a file.
(At first, I told it to fix 'em. Now I'm going through and restoring the backups it made.)

i have used mp3-libary many times before because it said a large amount of my collection was corrupted. but it seams to be better.as i havent used media source to import them so i think they may have actually be corrupt. but interesting findings.

  • Help-moved Domain.sites2 file, lost content wife's site

    Hi,
This is about my wife's MAC so it is even more serious because it's my fault. I'm her IT guy but I don't know her iWeb projects very well. I helped her get started and once her site launched a year ago, all has been great and I stopped studying/learning iWeb. Now I'm in trouble.
So asked for help creating/publish multiple websites from iWeb09. (personal and work) Don't know if she'll publish as sub/site on her mobileMe or host the second site elsewhere. I read the forums this morning about iWeb's use of the Domain.site file. I read that if you move the file from it's default location (lib/app support/iweb) to another level in the Finder, then iWeb will open to a new site template and no longer default to her personal site. Okay, got it. Did it. Created a folder called "iWeb Sites" in the Library/Sites folder. Created folders for her sep sites, work / personal.
Then I moved Domain.sites2 to the new "personal" folder. Launched iWeb from there to check her site. All good - still there. Quit iWeb
Re-launched iWeb from dock, saw it create a new Domain.sites2 file in lib/app support/iWeb. I chose "New Site" in the menu. After it appeared, I deleted her Site icon (and the files under it went away). Okay, good, now this Domain.sites2 file is ready to be her new work website. Quit, and movd this Domain file from it's default (lib/app supp/iWeb to the new "work" folder.
Now the problem...(if you don't already see it coming). I went back to open her personal site to make sure it would open directly from the new "personal" folder - it's new home. It opened with NONE of her site info. Totally new site - all her content gone.
First thing I did was quit. Opened my ftp (cyberduck) went to her mobileme account and downloaded the entire "SITES" folder.
Now what? Where did I go wrong and how do I fix it?
    Thank you!

The first time you open iWeb it creates a Domain.sites2 file in :
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
where ~ is your Home directory.
Anything you do in iWeb is stored in that file.
When you move the file to another location, for reasons only you know, iWeb cannot find it and offers you to find the Domain file or create a new one.
You can also double click the file you moved to open it in iWeb.
iWeb will remember it the next time you open iWeb.
If you start moving files around and creating folders for whatever reason and lost track, then retrace your steps to the point where it went wrong. If in the process you created multiple copies, then open them one by one and see what's inside.
You can have multiple domain files, I have 57, for any reason you desire. They are not linked and are fully independent of each other. It's up to you how you organize these different files and remember what they are for.
If you publish the Sites in each domain file to MobileMe, then the last one published will be the default Sites. If Sites in different domain files have the same name then it is surprise, surprise which page will be deleted, updated or added on the server.
Downloading the Sites (the HomePage folder) or the Web/Sites folder (where iWeb publishes the pages) from iDisk is useless in this respect, since it does not contain anything usefull. You cannot import webpages back into iWeb.

  • Encore CS4 Flash output - server doesn't like file names

Apparently my ftp server for my web site does not like files with spaces in the names, but Encore seems to use spaces in some of the file names for the png files in the menus. Is there any way around this? Can I force it to replace spaces with underscores? Can I go in and manually change the links and the file names (there aren't too many). this is very annoying - how could this happen?
    Thanks,
    Scott

If your server doesn't like spaces in file names, it's likely due to HTML address rules. However, these files won't be linked via HTML, but through the AuthoredContent.xml file directly into the SWF playing in the Flash player, which doesn't have the same limitations as HTML.
If your server is kicking a fuss up about this, replace the single space character in the PNG filename with an underscore character (do this at file system level), then edit the AuthoredContent.xml file and replace the space character in the PNG filename with an underscore character. Save everything, and then upload the files in the same hierarchy that Encore exports.
    That should do it.

  • Can I make FF 24 ESR check top level domains in permissions.sqlite like it used to (FF ≤17 ESR)?

permissions.sqlite stores various permissions for web sites. Up until some pre FF 20 version, permissions for domain 'doubleclick.net' applied also for 'www.doubleclick.net' (and obviously other subdomains). This was very handy and useful, because it worked for TLDs too: e.g I had set up default permissions for no scripts were allowed for the com TLD, no documents for the xxx TLD etc.
After some version, this stopped working. Ergo, for my peace of mind, I turned to FF 17 ESR, because this “inheritance” mechanism worked fine.
Unfortunately, FF17ESR is no more. I updated the browser and got the 24ESR version. I don't seem to be able to go back.
I found out about similar issues with permissions.sqlite, verified I don't have any 'scheme:file' host fields etc. The mechanism works, but without any inheritance.
I can assume that this is an optimisation (ie lookup only the domain name, not recursively its parents), but I really, *really* would like to have this functionality back. Is there some option I can set in about:config to turn it back on? I prefer security over speed.
I'm willing to customize the relevant code and compile and use my own FF24ESR, if only some kind soul would give me a hint as to where in the source code there is the permissions.sqlite checking mechanism. I tried for a couple of hours to locate said mechanism to no avail.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
This is a good suggestion and to be honest, I didn't know that the permissions manager doesn't respect TLDs and that is site specific. I did locate a couple of bugs around this
    # Firefox 18.0 added a feature for per site cookie blocking, [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=770691 Bug# 770691] and [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/18.0/releasenotes/buglist.html FF 18.0 Release notes] - guess is that this might be related to what you are seeing, though this is what it is - a guess
#There is another bug, marked as 'will not fix' to provide an option in the UI to disable javascript [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=873709 Bugzilla #873709]
#Also, managed to track a meta-bug for implementing site-specific permissions and it is likely that the issue you are seeing is a side-effect of one of these [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=573176 Bugzilla# 573176- Implement Site-Specific Privacy Preferences ]. I couldn't track which bug it was that logged for the JS preferences blocking
I will continue to search and see if I am able to locate the exact change. Meanwhile, someone who is aware of the changes more closely than I do, can chime in.
    Hope that helps.

  • Doesn't like some of my MIDI?

Hiya! I'm using Logic 9 on my Black Macbook, running 10.5.8, with a Roland TD-4 set, and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB interface. My problem doesn't really make sense to me. I've recorded a drum track using the kit with the Superior Drummer 2.0 plug-in like I always do, but in this last session that I'm working on, Logic just stops playing MIDI after I record any of it. I'll have some MIDI done, it'll play, but as soon as I record a take, it doesn't play back any of the MIDI on that specific take until I restart Logic, and then it shows the take as being Muted (kind of transparent and comes back when I press M).
Not only that, but now it ignores specific parts of my take even after I restart Logic. http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss259/Olnoname/Picture1.png (just realized I'd moved the take up to the Sax to see if the problem persisted outside of that track, and, yes, it does.)
That picture shows this latest take that I have for my MIDI drum track. The 9 notes at the end (measure 26.4 to 27) aren't played when I play the rest of the song, but only those specific notes. I can click on them and get the appropriate sounds, but only when I click on them individually. I'm totally at a loss now. Any help would be deeply appreciated or lemme know if I need to elaborate any further.

Ok, there's been others who've experienced this exact same problem and I don't know that a solution was ever found. I kind of suspect a corrupt project.
Is this by any change a project or a template that was started in Logic 8?

  • Moving Domain for iWeb from one computer to another

Have moved my website domain from Library in one computer running Leopard into Library in another computer running Lion.
Deleted default Domain in new Library, but when I open iWeb app the empty default Domain opens with nothing in it and returns back to Library folder in new Library. Even when I open Domain with my site directly from Library iWeb opens as a new app without my site. Everytime I delete the default Domain
    it returns.
How do I get the computer to recognise my site Domain in Library of computer running Lion? And to not keep recreating default empty Domain?
I have done this transfer before between 2 computers running Leopard and it works every time.
    Help! Please.....

As previously noted I got my Domain across to new computer running Lion and everything runs just fine
Editing my site hasn't altered except that now after pressing 'Publish', the edited site won't open and I am taken to the site of my Australian Server 'Big Pond' with a message saying that my site doesn't exist.
When I navigate to my site my edits have worked and the page opens normally.
    My site publishing settings are:
    'Publish to Mobile Me'
    Site name - gareth-sansom.com
The site though opens at http://web.me.com/gsansom/ (where it used to automatically open in after pressing Publish)
I have tried changing site name to that in 'Publish to Mobile Me' but then nothing works including publishing.
If I leave Publish to Mobile me as 'gareth-sansom.com' the publishing works, but I can't open my site after the publishing without navigating to it.
    Am I missing something here?
