Moving Elements 10 catalog into LR

I have been using Elements 10 and have thousands of photos all tagged, rated and grouped into albums.  I bought LR3 and generally like it -- but can't find a way to import my E10 catalog into LR3. Am I missing something about LR3. Will LR4 do this?

I am running up against this same problem. I definitely want to convert to LR3 then 4.... in the next 25 days the release of 4 will be happening according to my "source" at Adobe.
I could NOT get information about whether or not the conversion option would be in that version for the PSE10 catalog....
I would think that somebody for sure would have a beta version that they downloaded that could tell us whether or not the conversion option was there! I was told the actual release of 4 will be exactly like the beta version now! I don't want to download the beta version myself because I am already running a trial of LR3 that is good for another 25 days, and I'm hoping to buy a full license at a deal price sometime in that stretch of time and then get the upgrade price on the licensed version of LR4. Does that make sense. One replaces the other on your computer so I can't decide to just do two installs and run the trials separately.
A dilemma.
Anyhow, I have a brand new computer with only PSE 10 on it and a backup image of my old system with PSE 9 catalog files in a .tib file. I can copy individual files from this .tib but can't mount it for some reason unknown to me. it gives me an error. So I was hoping and already tried copying the mycatalog.psedb file into what would be the default folder on my new OS (different from my old - XPpro to W7). That didn't work. Darn.
anyhow. any suggestions or new information on this problem will be greatly appreciated and anticipated. I'm anxious to get my stuff into Lightroom so I can start learning all the cool stuff it can do! 50,000 images to transfer and more to import!

"Catalogs from Photoshop Elements 11 would not update in Lightroom."

  • Work-around to import Elements 7 catalog into Lightroom 2

I know I can't import an Elements 7 catalog into Lightroom 2 because they were released at nearly the same time.  But I want to do it anyway.  What is the best workaround?

You can write the PSE metadata (captions, tags, GPS locations) to the files with psedbtool. When you import the photos into Lightroom, this data will be read into the Lightroom catalog.
You will lose PSE Notes, version sets, stacks, albums, creations and a few other things.

  • Elements 10 catalog into LR4

I lose all "Notes" entries on importing an Elements 10 catalog into LR4. Can I retrieve them in LR4?

If I remember properly, it will not be an onerous task. What Exiftool will do is transfer the notes to some other metadata field that LR uses ... and I believe it can be done as a batch job, thus one execution of Exiftool does this for your entire photo collection (assuming its all under one parent folder).
Here is the method (see post #12 in this thread): http://forums.adobe.com/message/2148552#2148552

  • Possible to import Photoshop Elements 8 Catalog into Lightroom?

Is it possibel to import a catalog from Photoshop Elements 8 into the latest version of Lightroom?  I've kind of outgrown some of Element's functionality and I'd like to take Lightroom for a spin.  However, it would be useless if it won't import my complex set of albums, tags, etc.

Lightroom 2 cannot convert PSE8 catalogs. (Maybe Lightroom 3 will do so, but no one really knows...)
You can do a partial import. Using psedbtool, write your metadata to the photo files, then import the individual photos into Lightroom 2. You will lose collection membership, stacks, version sets, creations and a few other things.

  • Import Elements 7 Catalog into lightroom 2.3

I have just installed Lightroom 2.3. Can anyone tell me how to import the catalog from Elements 7 including keywords etc? I thought after installation it offered an option to import existing catalogue. If so I must have missed the opportunity. Many thanks.

Roy, I am 99% certain that importing PSE 7 catalog to LR 2 is not possible at this time. The release cycles of the products did not coincide for that to happen. However you can import from PSE 6 I believe.
I feel sure that this will be addressed soon........... but don't know when.

  • Import a 2nd Photoshop Elements Catalog into Lightroom 2.1?

    Okay Lightroom Gurus ...
On my old computer (Windows XP), I had several Photoshop Elements 5 catalogs, one of which was my main catalog, and the others were photos I hardly ever used. I imported the main catalog into Lightroom 2 just fine and have been running with it ever since.
Then, my old computer crapped out, I bought a new Windows Vista 64 computer, installed Lightroom 2.1, transferred the Lightroom catalog and continued along just fine.
But now, on my new computer, I want to import one of the other Photoshop Elements 5 catalogs (which still exists and still runs in PSE5 on the Vista 64 computer), but the command in Lightroom to do the import seems to have disappeared! I can't find it! Where did it go and how can I get it back? Is this a Vista 64 or Lightroom 2.1 issue (or is it me)?

  • Import Elements catalog into Lightroom

    Hi everybody,
I used PSE on my notebook for a couple of years now. As i bougth a new pc recently I want to upgrade to Photoshop CC / Lightroom. So here is my question:
Is it possible to import my elements catalog into Lightroom including my tags?
I still have got my copy of Elements 11 installed on my notebook, I´ve got a trial copy of PSE 13 on my new pc and already imported my catalog. I also installed Lightroom 5.6 on the pc.
I already looked on the internet but I only found one video which shows the solution I need but on Lightroom 3 and the function used in the video isn´t avalible in 5.6 any more.
If you need any more information please feel free to ask.

  • Can I Import elements 5 catalog/library into Lightroom 3.4?

I have been using Photoshop Elements 5 for awhile.  I would like to import my catalog into Lightroom 3.4.  There doesn't seem to be a way to do so.  There is no entry on the dropdown "File" menu relating to Elements Catalogs, despite information on the Adobe webste that says there is.  Can I do this?
Also, it isn't clear from the instructions whether "Library" and "Catalog" are used interchangeably in Lightroom or if there's a difference.  Do the two terms mean the same thing?

If you look at the help page, which is here
you will see that you require PSE 6 and later on windows, PSE 9 on osx, in order to convert a PSE catalog into a LR one. I assume you can get a trial of PSE, whatever the latest version is, use this to update your PSE catalog and then import it into LR.
The catalog is the full database, this is a file saved on your computer that ends in .lrcat this contains all the data relvent to the files imported into the catalog.
The library is the panel within LR that you use to view, add metadata, create collections etc. with LR itself, so they are not interchangeable terms in LR, unfortunately some users will refer to the catalog when they mean the Library and visa versa to the confusion of all.

  • Restore (Windows) Elements 11 catalog on Mac

    Hi everyone--
I am a Windows user moving to a Mac.  I did a backup of my (Windows) Photoshop Elements 11 catalog on an external drive in preparation for restoring  in on my MacBook pro.
I've read a number of different posts on here regarding the restore process and gathered the following information:
    1) Open up Elements 11 on the Mac and select File > Restore Catalog
    2) Navigate to external drive and select the .tly file.  (choose as source of restore)
Backup folder contents on external drive (former Windows Catalog to be used on Mac)
    1) My backup folder contains about 9,500 items. The majority of the files all beging with a "B" and are jpg files.  However, a small number also end with the following: .cache, .dat, and .xml.  Should these be in the backup file?
    2) I also have  "Catalog.buc" and "Backup.tly" files within my backup folder on my external drive
    Question(s)
    1. Based on the information I've read online, it would appear that the only thing I want to be concerned with in the backup folder is the "Backup.tly" and the other files contained within my backup folder on my external drive aren't relevant to the restore.  Is that correct?
    2.  Do I need to select anything else as part of the restore process after selecting the "Backup.tly" on my external drive?  For example, do I have to point to a folder on my Mac for the restore to occur or will this happen automatically since I will already have Photoshop Elements 11 open on my MacBook pro when I am performing the restore process?
    3) Currently, I have hundreds of "folders" under "My Pictures" on my Windows machine that separate out each event (Xmas 2010, Xmas 2011, etc.). Up until now I haven't been using the tagging feature within Photoshop.  My initial intent was to copy the "My Pictures" folder from my C drive on my Windows machine to the "Pictures" folder on my Mac.  (not planning to import them into iPhoto).
Will PSE 11 on my Mac be able to "find" this new path for the photos that were moved from my Windows machine to the "Pictures" folder on my Mac?  Do I need to do something to make sure this happens during the restore process on my Mac?
As an example, the patch for a random photo in PSE 11 on my Windows machine looks like the following:
C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\MyDocuments\MyPictures\Xmas 2010  (as an example for one of the pictures contained in my Windows catalog)
Clearly, this path won't exist on my MacBook Pro and I just want to make sure I know whether or not I have to do something to redirect the pictures in my (restored) catalog.
Sorry for all the questions.  I did go to the following link but unfortunately the link for process I am most interested in (restoration) appears to be broken:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/backup-restore-move-catalog-photoshop.html#ma in_Transfer_your_catalog_from_Windows_to_Mac_OS
    Thanks very much!

    Hi Andaleebfatima1,
Thanks for your response.  I had no idea it wasn't necessary to manually move over the contents of the "My Pictures" folder on my PC when I moved to my Mac.  I always assumed (obviously incorrectly) that restoring the catalog was simply  necessary to read what was already moved over in My Pictures and that if that had already not been done, I would not be able to open any of the pictures in the organizer.  Similar to what happens when you delete something in the My Pictures folder but not from the Organizer.
Regardless, I did what you suggested and set up a new folder to do the restore.  However, instead of putting it on my desktop, I added a new folder under the "Pictures" folder on my Mac as this is where I ultimately wanted to have the contents.  Since I had already manually created a "My Pictures" folder under Pictures, I renamed that folder to "My Pictures Original"  and used the name "My Pictures" for the new folder I wanted to use for the restore.
In summary, I had the following folders under the main "Pictures" folder on my Mac
Pictures -> My Pictures Original (this includes the pictures I manually copied over from my PC)
Pictures -> My Pictures   (this folder was empty prior to the restore)
I went back into the Organizer and selected the "restore catalog" option and specified the "My Pictures" folder as the folder for the restore (this is the one that I just created and was empty) of the the catalog and files that were on my hard drive. I also specified to maintain the original folder structure.
The good news is that everything seemed to get restored correctly and I can now see (and open) all of my pictures in the organizer. On the left hand side of the organizer I can see the original folder structure I initially had on my PC that I wanted to maintain on my Mac.
The bad news is that rather than restore all of the files and folders under "My Pictures," the restoration process seemed to create a few additional folders under 'My Pictures" that I have to flip through to actually see the folders containing my Pictures.
Again, my expectation was that I would simply select Pictures -> My Pictures and that I would see all of my various folders (Xmas 2012, Birthday 2013, etc.).
However, now I have the following structure
Pictures -> My Pictures. Under "My Pictures" I have 2 more folders  (Documents and Settings and My Catalog).  When I click on "Documents and Settings" I get 2 more folders  (All Users and Pete). When I click on the "Pete" folder another folder appears called "My Documents."  When I select "My Documents" I get another folder labeled "My Pictures."  Once I select "My Pictures" I can FINALLY see all of my files and folders.  (ugh)
I am happy that I was able to restore all of the information in the Organizer but I really hate that I have to go through 5 or 6 different folders on my HD before getting to the picture folder.
Is this just part of the restore process and somethign I have to live with as part of the migration of my data from Windows to Mac?
Ideally I'd like to just be able to go to the Mac default "Pictures" folder and select the "My Pictures" folder I created to be able to view the various folders that contain my pictures.  I realize a lot of the time I will be viewing the pictures directly from the organizer so it's not just a big deal but in other cases I will be doing this outside of the organizer and would hope to have a more streamlined method.
Sorry for the wrong rambling message but I wanted to try and give you as much background information as possible.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • LR5 import of Elements 9 catalog

LR5 import of Elements 9 catalog fails to import 50% of files. Tried 2 times same result

Ok ran trhu the upgrade elements catalog again and
Looking into types there were several - doesn't seem a pattern. I have looked into fixing this by importing by drag and drop from elements catalog and then moving the files into collections estimate about 10 hours so this is not end of world just a pain. If you can offer a solution great its first option now

  • Converting Album Catalogs to Elements 11 Catalogs

I am having difficulty converting my old Photoshop Album Catalogs (file extension .psa) to Elements 11.
Using "Manage Catalogs" from the file tab and then "Convert".  I get the convert catalog screen.  Using "find catalogs"  I can browse to the folder where the .psa Catalogs are but the window does not list them as choices for converting.
I have seen this question many times in the forum but none of the proposed solutions have worked for me.
This is especially annoying as one time (and only one time) it did list them and I was able to succesfully convert some of them but I can't recreate this for the remaining catalogs.
I don't remember doing anyting different the one time it worked.

Thanks for trying to help, unfortunately it does not work.
I have 4 catalogs.  Ticking the checkbox "show previously converted catalogs" lists the 3 that were succesfully converted, but not the 4th that has yet to be converted.
I tried tricking it by moving one converted catalog to another folder and renaming the unconverted catalog to the same name.
As expected this did not work, but it was worth a try.
The unconverted catalog is larger than than the others because it is my main one, but not that much larger than one of those successfully converted. (27kb vs 19kb).  I don't think the size matters as it doesn't even list the catalog in the select window.
Any other ideas would be appreciated as Adobe chat was unwilling to help, claiming that "Album" was too old to support.
My opinion is that I needed support to get the brand new "Elements 11" to work properly not "Album", but they disagreed.
As I mentioned before, the real frustration stems from the fact that based on personal experience, I KNOW "Elements 11" can do this, I just don't know how.
The trusty old computer with "Album" died and the new one won't run it. I need some way of saving all the info previously entered.
    Thanks for any help,

  • Moving elements 8 to new computer

I'm moving Elements 8 to a new machine.  I have downloaded the files to the new machine.  I have deactivated Elements on my old computer.  And I have my  serial number from my adobe account.  But when I enter the serial number into the setup menu and click next I get a message about the serial number being invalid.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

For PSE the number comprises 24 digits commencing 1057 (never post your serial number in a public forum) so make sure you are using the correct code. Otherwise you need to contact Adobe directly using the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
    1. Adobe Photoshop Elements
    2. Adobe ID, and signing-in
    3. Click on the blue button: Still need help? Contact us – then click the area marked chat 24/7, then click “start chat ”
It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. Have your serial number available. The agent can directly troubleshoot your system if you agree to activate the Adobe Connect add-on.

  • I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 5 to Lightroom 5.  Can Lightroom 5 read/convert a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog, or is Elements 5 too old to read?

I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 5 to Lightroom 5.  Can Lightroom 5 read/convert a Photoshop Elements 5 catalog including all of the tags, captions, etc, or is Elements 5 too old for Lightroom 5 to read/convert?  What's the best way to migrate?  (My catalog has over 100k images in it.)

Adobe changed the catalog software from PSE6 onwards to the SQLite database – as used in Lightroom.
Earlier versions of PSE including PSE5 used a Microsoft Access database, stored in a file called [Catalog Name].psa.
If you have already embedded keywords and captions by writing file info into the images they should be readable even if catalog conversion fails. Lightroom does have the ability to import a PSE catalog but in view of the age of PSE5 I would recommend downloading the 30 day free trial of LR5.6 and then you can judge the level of success of catalog conversion.
