Moving Elements Catalogue

Can anybody advise how I can move
my entire Elements 6.0 catalogue to a different HDD on my PC? I've tried backing up and then restoring
to the new location. everything appears on the new drive but none of it seems to
be linked into the software. I've tried searching the forums but haven't found anything helpful
so far.

See if items 2 and 3 here help

  • Moving elements 8 to new computer

I'm moving Elements 8 to a new machine.  I have downloaded the files to the new machine.  I have deactivated Elements on my old computer.  And I have my  serial number from my adobe account.  But when I enter the serial number into the setup menu and click next I get a message about the serial number being invalid.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

For PSE the number comprises 24 digits commencing 1057 (never post your serial number in a public forum) so make sure you are using the correct code. Otherwise you need to contact Adobe directly using the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
    1. Adobe Photoshop Elements
    2. Adobe ID, and signing-in
    3. Click on the blue button: Still need help? Contact us – then click the area marked chat 24/7, then click “start chat ”
It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. Have your serial number available. The agent can directly troubleshoot your system if you agree to activate the Adobe Connect add-on.

  • Elements catalogue restoration

A Happy New Year to all.  I think I've made a fundamental mistake and would appreciate any help in resolving it.
On old PC, ran Elements 6 - had a number of albums set up to organise my photos.  Upgraded my PC.  Foolishly did not run Elements catalogue back-up procedure, as I should have done, but simply copied all the files in the catalogue location on my PC - which I found in the "system info" option under the "Help" menu.  Set up new PC and loaded Lightroom 3.  It found, and imported all the photos in my "Pictures" folder OK.  However, none of the previous Elements album information was captured so that level of organisation disappeared.
To try and fix this, I reloaded Elements 6 on my new PC, but am not able to "restore" the catalogue as I did not back it up.  Tried pointing it to the files I copied from the catalogue location above, but it's searching for a file with an extension which is not there (obviously the back-up file).
Any ideas on how I can resolve the problem and recover my "lost" albums?
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Harry

Thanks for your reply.  The old PC is now unavailable.  I've now decided that it's a lost cause and have resorted to setting all my old Elements albums up as "collections" on Lightroom.  With 22,000 images, that'll be a good day's work.
Not a mistake I'll be making again.
    Thanks,
    Harry

  • Structure recognised, element catalogue not populated

Must be doing something wrong, but can't work out what!
    b what I've got:
    * FM 8.0
    * a well-structured, valid xml file with a doctype
    * dtd for the same (obviously)
    * structure-only (no formatting yet) edd generated from the dtd
    * udpated structapps file with an entry identifying the doctype and the dtd
    b what happens
I open FrameMaker and then file > open the xml; no errors, and the structure window is populated ... but everything is red, and there are no entries in the element catalogue
I'll see if I find any tips in the Structure Development guide, but any hints and tips in the meantime would be appreciated and welcome.
    [ps] Ain't those out-of-frame bullets something =8-}

    Hi,
Looks like you haven't import the edd to the template file. Frame does not use the edd directly, in structapps.fm, the application defines the rw-rules, template to be used etc, but the edd must separately be imported to template.
Open the edd, then template and use "Import Element Definitions" to populate the template (don't remember by heart where the command is in fm8, prob. under "Structure Tools")

  • Moving Photoshop Elements catalogues from a PC to a Mac

I have created several photo catalogues on my PC using Photoshop Elements 7. I have now moved to a Mac computer. I have imported my photos tom my new computer, and into iPhoto. However I would like to continue organising and editing them with Photoshop Elements. To this end I intend to purchase the Photoshop Elements for Mac software. However if I do this how to I move the catalogue (and stack details) for my photo collection to the Mac? Grateful for some advice.

And presumably once i have checked everything has imported correctly, i can then delete those photos in iPhoto that I now have duplicates of in my new Mac PSE folder? This would then provide a sort of safeguard on the transfer process. Will all the stacks, catalogues etc. in the new Mac PSE file be the same as on my old PC PSE file? As I have a lot of very old family photos from the early part of the last century i have numerous edits of each photo. These all appear separately in iPhoto. Presumably they will appear stacked as one photo in my new Mac PSE file? Apologies for these aggravating little questions but I want to make sure everything will be OK before starting the process.

  • Moving my catalogue from windows to mac with photos on network storage

    Hi
I've been using LR for a while and have a catalogue of about 15,000 photos.
I import my camera files to the windows vista machine but periodically move them over to my network attached storage (linux host with USB drives) where I have more space and file backup available.
I want to move the catalogue from the windows PC onto my new Macbook as I'll be moving to that for all my photography work.
So how do I move the catalogue onto the Mac and retain the links to the photographs that are on the external drive.
Would it be easier to move all the files back on to my Vista hard drive and then export the catalog with the negatives or can I export the catalog and somehow relink the files?
I've got Lightroom 2.7 installed on both machines and I can access the network drive where the photos are stored from my MAC
    Thanks
    Colin

    Hey Colin,
Well, I didn't have a problem with that when i moved my main editing from PC to mac.  I just backed up everything onto the fileserver, then loaded it onto the mac.  It opened just fine.  To "find" files again, simply right click on the left hand side menu where it shows the question mark of the missing folder, and it will let you browse to find it.  So finding new drive locations for the top level folder is easy, and the rest fell into place automatically.
I routinely backup my catalog and images onto a portable drive, which I then use to edit on my laptop.
One thing that makes it work, I think, is that I put my catalog files and image files into one subdirectory, and export the whole subdirectory onto the portable.  Then told the PC to always load that portable disk as the same drive letter...  That let me open the laptop LR and tell it where the catalog was, and always works the same.
This may not be what you've asked, and if it isn't, sorry!
    Cheers!

  • Moving Elements in Layer Groups

I need feedback as to how to move elements around within layer groups. I always organize my psd files by setting up lots of layer groups. I've noticed that with CS3, that I am unable to move just one layer within a group without everything in the group moving. For example, If I have a group and within that group I have a text layer, and other layers with various elements, If I want to move the type, everything goes with it even though I haven't linked them altogether. Am I missing something? I don't remember this with earlier versions. It is driving m crazy. Is there a preference I have to set? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is your Move Tool option set to Auto-Select: Group? Change it to Auto-Select: Layer.
Or just turn it off to disable any Auto-Select..

  • Photoshop Elements catalogues synced with Photoshop express

Help.  I am using Photoshop Elements 10.  We have two catalogues that became combined when we syned with Photoshop express.

    Tom:
Thank you for your response. Couple of questions: When I go to file/new blank file what is the height and width to fit into tv safe mode for fce? I am changing the background color and adding different frames, etc. to the pics & I don't think I'll be doing alot of scanning. Also, I have scanned my photos at 72 dpi and will that not be sufficient if I do any type of pan and scan? I found out how to add the borders, etc. in photoshop - just want to make sure that when I import into fce everything will be smooth. Any "must do's" would be appreciated.

  • Moving Elements 5.0 catalog & images to external drive

Due to capacity reasons, I needed to move my pictures to my external drive. I followed instructions on backing up my C drive catalog and images and then restored it to my intended external drive, with the file structure maintained. I confirmed that the catalog and images are all on the external drive now. And, I changed my Preferences so that the files, camera/card reader and scanner files would now also be saved to that drive.
Unfortunately, now I can't seem to get the catalog to find the moved picture files. (and, I've deleted the pictures off my C drive) Any advice, anyone? Thanks in advance.

What I have experienced (and I am not sure if it was PSE 4 or 5) is that as long as the photo files still existed in their previous location, the Restore process did NOT update the pointers in the Catalog to the new location.
When did you delete the photo files off the C drive  - before or after you did the PSE Restore command?
You can look at this FAQ

Your cause is not exactly the same as that writeup, but this solution may apply to your current dilemma.

  • Moving files/catalogues

Intel MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, OS x 10.6.8. I upgraded to LR3 whereupon the files I add go into a new 2011 folder within my old 2011 folder. I can't find a simple way of moving them without doubling my folders (or are they catalogues?! or even libraries?) or losing them from view. I treid moving them in Finder en bloc but they are then 'lost'. Importing them doesn't seem simple or possible (to me). It should be (on a Mac, at least)?

OK. I solved it myself - the default import (I think it was the default) put the imported files into a year subfolder within the year folder. It was merely a question of picking the right form of file name. New problem - having moved the folders out to a ext hard drive (as I'm short on room in the MacBook) and re-imported them they've lost their modifications in Develop - is there an easy way to marry up the alterations with the new file positions? • Moving images/catalogue from daughter to main catalog - Question and help requested on flow

    All,
I have been using LR since 1.0 and now on 2.5 on a PC (Vista & Windows 7)
    My picture management work-flow
I pull-in photos onto laptop which has a small catalog of 2009 images and usually only 6000 in (Nefs D300/D70) (Daughter catalog)
On laptop I keyword etc and prepare photos.
Once my hard drive (250GB) gets about 2/3 full I move 10-20 folders (I store images by shooting date) to a "master" hard drive (1TB) using the freeware "Syncback".
I back up catalog at this point.
Also moving the images to the 1TB means those photos are now going into my Main catalog, and I export the catalog of images that I transfered above and import that intot he main catalog that sort of works
    Now question(s) come(s)
I lose in the 2009 catalog the link to the images once they have been moved by sync back to the 1TB driveand have to manually reconnect within lightroom.
I am sure there is a better way yo do this, is there and can anyone help me -
Can I drag and drop in the library mode in the "folder LH view" the images from the local (c) drive to the 1TB drive.  I haven't tried this (I'm a coward)
If I eschew the use of Sync back and then export the catalog and images from the Daughter catalog, how can I make sure when I import them into the Main catalog that the images are stored on the 1TB drive correctly (Images/yyyy-mm-dd)?
Is this handled through the image import dialog when moving the exported catalog into the Main one ?
I hope this is understandable, as I say I have been a little timid with these steps
Many many thanks in advance for help and pointers
    Simon Leppard

When you import a catalog, the Import Dialog will come up. Click copy to new location and Import. Lightroom will import using the existing folder structure as is.

  • Moving Elements 9 to a New Computer

I recently upgraded from Elements 7 to 8 on an XP computer.  No problem. I just bot a Windows 7.  Installed 9, no problem.  But I can't figure out how to move my catalog.  I copied all the photos to the new hard drive.  Where is the catalog file, and how do I move it?

  • Moving Elements 9 to Macbook?

When I bought my old stationary PC I got a bundled version of Elements 9 (Photoshop and Premiere) with it. Since then I mainly use a Macbook for most of my media production and now of course I'd like to be able to move my Elements license to my Macbook.
Is it possible and if so how do I go about it?
    Thanks in advance!

I think it’s going to be difficult unless you have the original installation disks and serial number for both formats, which is probably unlikely if your software came pre-installed. The only download now available is the current version PSE10 & PRE10 so it may be worth thinking about getting that for the Mac as prices for the two products bundled are very good; either the upgrade price or the full version price which is sometimes strangely lower.
You should be aware that PSE11 and PRE11 are likely to be out in Sep/Oct so unless you are in a hurry you may wish to wait a bit unless you can get a really good discount on the current version.
Once you have your software successfully in stalled on the Mac you can transfer your Windows catalog using back-up and restore from within Organizer.

  • Moving elements in LiveType

I have a couple of different title elements on different tracks. Is there a way that I can lock these elements together then resize and move them, like you can in Photoshop? I need them to stay the same size in relation to the other elements that I would like to lock together. Is there a way? I'm using LiveType 2.1.
    Thanks!

    From the Manual:
To group two or more tracks:
    1. Make sure you have more than one track in the Canvas.
    2. Select a track in the Canvas or Timeline.
This is now the active track, and the grouping button to the far left of the track bar is
    dimmed.
    3. Click the grouping button of a different track.
The link icon appears, indicating that the track is grouped with the active track (the
track you selected in Step 2).
    4. In the Canvas, move either of the grouped tracks, and notice that they move together.
    5. In the Timeline, click the grouping button of a third track.
    Active track
I just tried this and it works here...?
