Moving Email From Folder To Folder Causes Body Of Message To Disappear

OS X 10.5.8 - Mail Version 3.6 (936)
Not a consistent problem but insanely frustrating.
Example-
I move an email from the InBox to a Folder I have created under On My Mac (or within On My Mac), and it moves just fine. But (again seemingly randomly), if I Shift/Click two or more contiguous emails or Command/Click non-contiguous emails I randomly lose ALL the body of the email.
The From, Subject, Date and the Paper Clip icon display but nothing in the email. Double click to open the email in a separate window and unlike normal messages none of the normal format displays, (From, Date, CC, Attachments), double click just the Paper Clip and again nothing at all displays.
There is no Raw Source, Long Headers or Original Content.
Forwarding generates Long Headers and Raw Source but only from MY Forward not the original data.
Am I completely screwed as to the contents or are they recoverable? If yes then how?
Thank you,
Richard

It just stopped happening but I saved the posted solutions in case it crops up again.
Thanks,
Richard

Open Terminal in Utilties and copy/paste
This will send the attachment embedded inline. (This works in Snow Leopard, but not sure about Lion. Do a test first. If it doesn't work, just google "send attachment embedded + Lion." You don't actually have to send the message to see how it will appear.)
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 0
To reverse the setting, change the 0 to a 1
However, whether this will work or not will depend on what the e-mail client on the receiver's end does with it.

  • Moving email from Outlook Express on Windows XP to Leopard Mail

What are the steps I should take to move my email from a Windows XP computer running Outlook Express to my new iMac running OS X 10.5 and Mail?
I'm assuming I have to move the mailbox files from the Windows machine to the iMac and then run some kind of import.
Where are the mailbox files on the Windows machine and what are they called?
Does Mail support a direct import of those files or do I have to convert them somehow? If I have to convert them, is there an export command in Outlook Express that will do the trick? If not, what do I need to do to convert the files? Is there an application (preferably a free one that can do the trick)?
Finally, anything I should know about that could cause an import of email to choke - bad characters in folder names, too many emails in a folder, subsubfolders, etc.?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

Since there were no responses, I figured I'd post my own solution. After searching around online, there seem to be several ways to accomplish this. The first I tried was installing Thunderbird on the XP box and importing the Outlook Express email into it. This seemed to have grabbed most of my email. For some reasons a few boxes did not show up in Thunderbird though. Next step was to move the Thunderbird mailboxes over to the Leopard box and run the import process in Mail. This worked for all of my boxes except my Sent mail which choked the import routine (spinning beach ball). So, I went back into Thunderbird and split the 12K emails in the sent box into 6 separate email boxes and moved those over to the Mac. They imported fine. Then I just moved the messages back into the sent box.
That still left the few mystery mail folders that didn't import into Thunderbird. For those, I downloaded a utility that converted dbx to mbox format. Ran it on those boxes, renamed the new file extensions to mbox from mbx and moved those to the Mac and imported them into Leopard.
For some reason one box still didn't come across. But I just forwarded the 8 emails in that box to myself.
It took forever (mainly because the XP machine was so slow and because of the number of emails). But, it did work.

  • Help with Moving Emails from Exchange Server 2013

    Hi Team,
Help, I need a solution on how to copy incoming and outgoing emails together with their attachments and was hoping someone could help with a solution I need to find for this problem.
    1) I have a need to copy all incoming and outgoing emails & attachments from Exchange Server 2013 mailboxes on a daily basis, so they can be archived into an external 3rd party database overnight.
I believe that the first step is that I can set up another Exchange mailbox, through Journaling to receive these emails.
Is there any way that these emails can then be moved direct from the Journaling mailbox that I have created, to a shared folder on the network? If so what format would they be sent out as e.g. .msg, .ems and what is the process?
Failing that, could they be sent to an Outlook client (not another Exchange mailbox) on the network and stored in a .pst file? (I have a program that will export them from .pst)
I would really appreciate any assistance that you can provide in this matter.
    Regards, Greg.

    Hi,
You can set auto-forward on journaling mailbox and auto-forward emails to another mailbox. Why don’t directly archive the emails from the journaling mailbox “an external
    3rd party database”.

  • Moving email from apple mail to outlook

Is there a way to move saved emails in folder on apple mail to outlook for MAC  Thanks Randall.

    Hi,
I take it you meant export from apple mail.
If so there is no export option available... Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot, have a import option for apple mail but no export.

  • Moving emails from outlook express to mail

is there a way to get all of my old emails from outlook express to mail? My old PC is about to die and then I'll loose all of my emails :s that is why I am wondering if there is a solution, now.

I don't know whether you can do this on a PC version of Outlook Express or not, but I know that you can do stuff like this with Apple's Mail, so it may be worth a shot to try this and see if it works.
First off, I am assuming that all this old mail is a POP account, and not IMAP. If it were IMAP, it would all be safe on your email account provider's IMAP server and all you would have to do is create the new account in Apple Mail and the first time you connected, it would autosync with the server and all your old mail would just be there. But if POP, all mail is downloaded to your computer then deleted from the server. So, assuming this to be a POP account, here is what I would try to do if I were you.
    1. Go to http://webmail.aol.com and sign up for a new free IMAP email account from AOL. You could get a free gmail account if you wanted, too, but I believe there is a bit of extra configuration involved in making it a IMAP and not POP. AOL is IMAP by default. Plus, AOL is a built-in new-account setup option in Apple Mail.
    2. On the PC in Outlook Express, add a new account for your new AOL email account. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883081 to find out all the particulars about account settings and how to do it in Outlook Express.
    3. On the Mac in Apple Mail, as stated in #1 above, AOL Mail is one of the options when creating a new account. Just follow Mail's "new account wizard" to create your AOL account there.
    4. On the Mac, create a second new account for your existing POP account. Mirror the individual mail folder layout that are on your old PC for the old POP account.
    5. This is the part that I don't know if PC Outlook Express will let you do, but I know that Apple Mail does:
    (a) Open each of your mail folders in the old POP account stored on your dying hard drive one at a time
    (b) Highlight/select all the messages in that folder
    (c) Drag them to the AOL inbox. In Apple Mail, they would be copied to the IMAP server, preserving all the original "From" and "Date Received" and other information like that.
    6. On the Mac, drag the messages that you uploaded into the AOL inbox and drop them into the appropriate folder of the "legacy" POP account that you created in #4. That will clear them out of the AOL inbox and they will now be stored on your computer as downloaded popmails.
    7. Go back to step #5 and repeat this process for each of your folders on the old PC until you have emptied all the messages off your old computer.
Now, I will have to issue a disclaimer that I have only done this myself from IMAP to IMAP and to/from IMAP from/to "On My Mac" folders, which keeps copies of messages locally but not on IMAP servers. So I have no reason to suspect that this would not apply equally to POP since it worked with "On My Mac" folders. And whether the PC's Outlook Express will support the POP-to-IMAP drag-and-drop is a total unknown to me.
I'm sure I'll hear back via this forum whether this worked or not, but it's the best idea that I can come up with, and like I said, a similar (but not identical) situation worked for me before.

  • MAC NEWBIE: Moving Email from my PC to the Mac

I took the plunge and ordered an iMac-24inch and it will be delivered on Tuesday. That said, I would like to know how I can move all my email from my Windows XP machine over to the mac? I am using Thunderbird, but I understand that Apple's iMail comes with the mac and works good?

Here is the info from Thunderbird's web site:
Your mail files are inside your profile (see the Profile Folder), in the Mail and (if you use IMAP) ImapMail folders. Each mail folder (Inbox, Sent, etc.) is stored as two files — one with no extension (e.g. INBOX), which is the mail file itself (in "mbox" format), and one with an .msf extension (e.g. INBOX.msf), which is the index (Mail Summary File) to the mail file. Tell the other program to import mail from the file with no extension.
Just copy your mbox files you want to transfer to a CD/flash drive or whatever device you want to use, and then import them into Mail. You should be set.

  • Email from R/3 in the body instead of coming as attachment?

    I have defined a job via SM36:

The email received in the MsOutlook inBox shows the message as an attachment. I want the contents of the message shown in the body of the email. Any ideas? (Emails are received in .HTM extension)

  • Some emails from a particular sender causing Outlook 2010 to hang, task manager shows memory use spikes

Posting this to the Exchange forum because I'm hoping there's a server-side solution.
SOME emails received from an external sender (gmail.com address, not sure the mail client) are causing Outlook 2010 to hang when trying to open the email.  Outlook becomes non-responsive when viewing the email through the preview pane or by double-clicking
the email.  If I open Task Manager I see that the outlook.exe process memory use starts increasing very quickly.  As far as I know the only resolution is to end the task and re-open Outlook (and avoid that email).
I've found several excellent threads on these same symptoms, but there seems to be a variety of causes.  I've tried a bunch of things so far:
     - Tried opening from another system on our network running Outlook 2010, same issue.
     - Tried opening from OWA, opens fine.
     - Tried exporting the email to a PST, then opening from a completely different system outside of our network, but still running Outlook 2010, same issue.
     - Tried exporting the email to a PST then opening from a completely different system outside of our network, running Outlook 2013, email opens fine.
     - Tried setting Outlook to open all emails as PLAIN TEXT, opens fine.
Systems are running the latest Outlook 2010 SP and patches, and running a variety of OS's.  Only common denominator seems to be Outlook 2010.
I was hoping to find a way to convert incoming emails from this sender to open as Plain Text using a Hub Transport rule, but cannot find a way to do it.
Unfortunately I have no control over the sender, so don't know what could be triggering the problem.
Can anyone advise on a possible solution?  Any way to someone convert emails from a particular sender to Plain Text automatically?

Either you inform the sender to configure in sender's outlook to send only to you in plain text please check this
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/outlook-help/change-the-message-format-to-html-rich-text-or-plain-text-HA101992313.aspx
    Or
Call a macro in your outlook example below. Please check
    this for details
    Dim msg As MailItem
    For Each msg In myNS.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderInbox).Items
       If msg.Unread = True And _
         msg.SenderName = "Linda Cooper" Then
    Item.BodyFormat = olFormatPlain
       Else
         ' Message doesn't meet criteria.
       End If

  • Attachments Moving after Moving Email from Exchange Mailbox to PST

A user with Office 2013 has an Exchange 2013 mailbox and moves some emails to an attached PST file. Attached documents in an email, such as a PDF,gets placed behind the senders email
signature making the attachment impossible to open without clicking reply/forward and moving the email signature around. You are able to select the email, Click File, Click Save Attachment and access the PDF that way.
    Steps Taken Thus Far:
    Repaired Office 2013.
    Removed Office 2013.
Cleaned the stale registry records on the workstation.
    Re-installed Office 2013.
Downloaded & installed all Office 2013 updates.
Created a new PST file in a different location and moved email with an attachment to the new PST file.
Followed the same process of moving an email to a PST file when logged on as a different user account using a different mailbox.
Thank you for any suggestions in resolving this issue.

    HI,
    thanks for your fast reply:
    My answers:
    - Online Modus (no Cache).
    - Tried https and TCP Mode, same Result
    - Tried Save Mode, no change.
    - BUT: tried with simple IMAP/POP3 - does work. So I don't think AV is guilty, otherwise here it should work aswell. Also our AV does not Scan Outlook/Mails, as this is scanned prior from the firewall. We use Avira Business.
    Basically what we have:
Exchange 2013, multiple other Accounts attached from the Exchange Server.
We move Emails from one Account to another.
Once we do this, it is transferred to RTF, loosing HTML.
(Happens also if moving to Desktop, Copiing to other Mailbox, but does not happen if forwarding / sending to the other mailbox).
This happens with Outlook 2010 - which had the exact same setup when it was working, just having Exchange 2010. The Exchange 2013 Setup is new Serversetup, Outlook 2010 was modified to connect to this server.
Outlook 2013 same thing. This is, why I don't think it's any client issue. Haven't tried Office 365 though, but not sure if it's Exchange 2013 there, and there are quite some things different (eg: Password saving does work with Office 365, not with internal
Exchange when connecting from external, like that doesn't work with most Hosted Exchange Providers).
It would be good to know what the difference is, as I believe it could be a setting, but as no further reply at the other thread came, and multiple people are complaining about the same thing, I thought it's something that might get fixed with CU1 and is
considered a bug. So not sure were else to search.
    This speaks against the client:
    - POP3 / IMAP works (so extracting the message from the .pst doesn't modify it to RTF)
    - Exchange 2010 works.
While Outlook 2010 and 2013 behave the same way.
    Thanks
    Patrick

  • I moved email from spam to inbox and it disappeared

So yesterday I discovered 8 unread emails in my Gmail Spam that are important for my business.
I was on my iPhone and clicked Edit, selected the emails, then clicked Move, and selected Inbox.
They then disappeared and did not show up in my inbox.
In attempt to find out what was wrong I moved an unread email from my trash can to my inbox
Then I quickly went in the inbox, the email showed up for a second, then disappeared.
I cannot retrieve these emails on the computer, they appear to be gone for good
Anyone have a solution for this?
Can I get the emails back somehow?

I have the same problem. Come on apple.

  • Moving emails from mac mail to gmail

This is probably a real simple one but I don't really use Mail that often...
How do I a batch of emails to show up in my gmail account when I log in?
A short time back I had a hotmail account where I stored a lot of emails that contained receipts for products, software, music etc that I had bought online. I had to get rid of this account as someone had managed to hack it and was sending dodgy emails from my account. At the time I used Mail to create an archive of these emails so that I could recall them later.
I've managed to reload them back into Mail no problem but if I log out then go into my gmail account directly they don't appear in the inbox where I have put them in Mail.
    Any pointers guys?
    Thanks
    Bryan

you can set up gmail as IMAP but you'll have to delete the current gmail POP account and set it up from scratch as IMAP. make sure you copy anything you need and which is no longer on the server from the gmail inbox and Sent mailbox to a local mailbox first. you can make a mailbox in "on my mac" section for that purpose. deleting an account deletes all mailboxes associated with it. then go to mail preferences->accounts and add a new account. in the account setup wizard uncheck the box to set it up automatically or it will recreate it as POP again, then create it as IMAP. see this link for correct settings to use.

  • Moving email from gmail account to exchange account on iphone

I have two accounts set up on my iPhone4S, gmail and exchange (connected to Exchange 2010).  Is it possible to move an email from the gmail account to the Exchange account?  I am unable to find a way to accomplish this.  I can move an email from Exchange to Gmail but not the reverse.

Have you happened to find a solution, or least and explaination for this problem?

  • HT201320 When I access my email from the iPhone, hit "inbox", the new messages appear briefly, but then just evaporate.  I can't find them anywhere - not in inbox, not in junk, trash, saved - nowhere.  Can anyone tell me what is happening?

When I access my email from the iPhone, new messages appear only briefly and then immediately disappear, before I do anything.  Only old messages that were already in my inbox are visible.  I can't find the new messages anywhere -- they have not moved to Saved, Junk, Trash, anything.  IT is like the iPhone just ate them.  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

If you have a POP3 account this means that another "client" email program has retrieved the messages and deleted the messages from the server. You need to change the server settings on that device to leave the messages on the server.
If you have an IMAP or MS Exchange account this means that someone read the messages on another device and either deleted them or moved them to another folder. Or there is an automated script that moved them to another folder.
