The only way to do this kind of move is with iPhoto Library Manager

  • Moving clips between computers

I have clips on my computer in iMovie that I want to transfer to my daughters computer (both are fairly recent Macs running 10.8.2) so that she can use them in an iMovie project. How do I best do this? Do I need to put them into a project first? Am I best off using an external drive for the transfer (as opposed to Wi-Fi)? Thanks for any advice!
    Dan

    Hi
I think You can connect via Wi-Fi - but read my (general) note on this.
    Moving Event's and Project's
Connection - Either connect one Mac in Target mode to the other via FireWire. Or use an external hard disk !
(Target-Mode - Start one Mac e.g. laptop - BUT keep T-key down during full up-start - Now a FW-symbol is jumping around the screen and it will work as an external hard disk when connected to the other Mac)
    A. The External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work for Video. UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most other things but not for Video whatever program is used (iMovie or FinalCut)
    B. Should be a FireWire one as USB/USB2 performs badly to me and especially when filling up
    C. Do never Move or Alter any folder named
    • iMovie Event's - or -
    • iMovie Project's
on DeskTop/Finder - as this will result in iMovie losing connections to them and repair can be anything from hard to impossibly
    D. Moving and Copying must be done within iMovie application and Events to Events - and - Project's to Project's.
    E. Moving Project's to Event's - Do not work for me - I have to export project as a QuickTime movie then Import this into Events.
Event's window can show two faces
    Like this
    or like this
from one hard disk Event - You can move it to the other hard disk
You can not (at least not me) move Event to Project or other way around only
Event to Event and Project to Project

  • Moving files between computers; GB can't open it

Last night I was working on editing a couple of tracks and using the trackpad on the TiBook was becoming a pain, so I went back to hubby's computer and he created the tracks for me quickly. Then he tried to email the file, but GB won't open it. It came through named "data file" which might be something to do with Entourage.
I went back to his computer this morning and sent it again using yousendit.com, and it comes through as a .band file, but it still won't open. Then I tried the "Save as Archive" option, just in case, and tried sending it again. It looks right, but it still won't open. All it says is "can't open file" and the location and name. If you double click on the file itself, GB opens and pops up the dialog box asking if you want to open a song or create a new one.
It's only two tracks, both software instruments, and only about 8 bars long, so it's not too big to be mailed. Info does show it as a GarageBand Project. We have the same version of GB (1.1.0) on both computers. The file I'm sending to myself is the file in the User/Name/Music/GarageBand folder.
I am seeing now that when I retrieve the file it's size is 4KB. On the other computer it's 340KB. Are there other files that need to be transferred for it to work? We can pass files back and forth to work on them, right?
I know this probably has a simple answer, but I can't find it by searching the forums (GB 1 & 2), FAQs, Support Pages, GB Help, or even (and I'm shocked! All my answers are usually there!) HangTime's site. What is my pilot error?

You've saved the day yet again.
Hmmm, "saved the day"? Seems a little much, but I'll certainly take it %-)>
    why did it work?
Sadly I'm not as well versed in some of the deeper intricacies of OS X as I was about older versions. It was my understanding that OS X had moved away from "Resource Forks" (don't worry about the definition, it's a little complicated, but the important thing is that moving Mac Files without encoding them first could strip the resource fork of a file and render it useless)
I wouldn't expect this to be the issue with a modern app from Apple, but it could be something similar. Packing it just makes sure that all the parts are transmitted.
    Thanks again.
    You're welcome, I'm glad I could help --Hang %-)>

  • Moving files between computers

Hello, friends, can anyone plz advice me how best to move a file from one Mac to another? I thinkin there must be some kind of cable I could purchase for this. I want to move a one hour IMovie 6 movie to a larger Mac to burn on IDVD. After 20 continous hours of attempting to burn it on my smaller Mac, I gave up the ship and force quit IDVD. The small Mac Book 2.1 say I have 14 gb available in IMovie for this job whereas the larger, newer Mac has 115 gb! This must be the best way to go!?
Thanks a ton and a half!

It's actually very easy, all you need is a single FireWire cable. Here are the instructions right from the Mac's Help menu:
Transferring files between two computers using FireWire
You can use FireWire to connect your computer to another Mac and have one of the computers appear as an external hard disk on the other computer. This is sometimes called Target Disk Mode.
    To transfer files using FireWire:
Shut down the first computer and leave the second computer on.
Connect the two computers using a 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable. (If both computers have higher-speed FireWire 800 ports in addition to the standard FireWire 400 ports, you can use a 9-pin to 9-pin cable with the FireWire 800 ports to transfer data at higher speeds.)
Open System Preferences, click the Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start up the first computer while holding down the T key.) A disk icon for the first computer appears on the desktop on the second computer. Drag files to and from the disk to transfer them.
When you finish, eject the first computer's disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.)
Push the power button on the first computer to shut it down and disconnect the FireWire cable.
If the computer to which you connect your computer is running Mac OS 9, it must have FireWire version 2.3.3 or later installed. Use Apple System Profiler (located in /Applications/Utilities) to check the version of FireWire installed. If it has an older version, get an update at the Apple FireWire website at www.apple.com/firewire.

  • Moving photos between computers

WHen i travel, i use a laptop to handle my photos.  When i return home i would like to move the pictures to my main computer, but i have already processed them and spent a fair amount of time on them.  How can i move the already processed photos across computers using LR4?
    Thanks!

    Luiz-
I do the same thing quite a lot.
The best thing I can advise you is to start keeping your LR catalog (and previews) in Dropbox.
Then when you get home, put all the photo files in the hard drive that is your "main" one. Before you do ANYTHING else, wait until you are sure that Dropbox has updated the Main computer. Once you are sure it's updated, open light room and Select > Find > Missing folders and locate them with LR and you're set.
The only other item that I personally do is when I import the files (either on laptop or desktop), I always create smart previews. Then I can delete the photos from the laptop but still work on them.
This system has been bullet proof for me, but I frequently make a manual local backup of the catalog so I'll always be covered it I screw up the Dropbox syncs - though the few times I've done that, it was no big deal. LR recognizes that something is amiss and creates a "conflicted catalog" You can figure out what is wrong and redo it and then delete the conflicted catalog.
    Good lucky

  • Moving Events between Accounts

I have created a new user account to deal with some issues.
I would like to migrate/copy/move all of the photos and events and faces and places setup information I created in the old account.
    Looking for some guidance.
There seems like there should be an easy way to migrate but I don't seem to be able to find any support on this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.
One more question. Where are the actual photo files located? Do I need to move them or are they all part of the iPhoto Library that I copied?
In other words can I blow away the old account's Pictures folder.
Sorry for the simple questions but I'm a convert and used to seeing files.
    Thanks

  • Moving sites between computers

What is the quickest way to move a blog I have created on my PowerBook to my PowerMac, where I want to continue to work on it?
I'm not sure where iWeb stores its files, but I see no option to "open" an existing blog from the iWeb menu.
    Any ideas?
    Brian

    Can't open files?
doesn't that sort of limit the usefulness of this
    application?
For some people, yes. For others, it probably makes things a lot simpler. People who need the capability to open and edit html files have tons of other programs they can use.
When I read the "blurb" on the Apple site, it said
    you could use iWeb to
    "create websites and blogs ...".
Are you unable to create websites and blogs with it?
Does anyone other than me think that it is a bit
misleading to advertise that an application can be
used to create websites (plural), and yet not make
that functionality available from within the
    application itself?
I don't see any necessary connection between creating websites and having the ability to open or edit html files, if that's what you are referring to. Many, many people are using iWeb to create sites they are happy with. There must be hundreds of examples provided in this forum.

  • IMovie is not moving events between drives, only copying them???

    Hi,
I'm following the instructions here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1026 - to move events, but it only copies them and leaves the original.
Is this the only way? Is there actual way to "move" them?
    Cheers

You are looking at a document for a previous version of iMovie. In the current version, if you drag you get a copy. If you hold down the command key while you drag, you get a move. See the iMovie help for details.

  • Moving data between computers

On my iMac I have exported a large number of photos and videos into a folder. Now I'd like to transmit this data to my wife's MacBook. Since there is so much data I'd like to use ethernet. I have these questions:
Do I need a cross over ethernet cable?
Do I need to somehow declare the folders as Shareable?
If I can get Finder to "see" the folders do I just drag the folder on one machine to the other?

    Hi grok12,
i have done what you are trying before and it is quiet simple.
you do need a cross over cable if you don't have a switch or a broadband router with a switch built in.
you do need to make your data folder shared, do this by bringing up the spotlight info on the folder and click share folder.
Next you need to open system preferences and click on shareing and enable file sharing.
Now go onto the computer that you want to receive the data and open network from a finder windows.
Hopefully you will see your 'data' computer and within that the folder you have shared. Then just select the files you want and 'copy' and 'paste'
    job done.

  • Moving songs between computers: Intel and PowerPC

Hi - I would like to copy my songs from my iMac to an older Power Book. I use Time Machine on the iMac (which won't work on the Power Book). What is the simplest way to copy the songs? Thanks to help from another post, I also have SuperDuper backup on my iMac; not sure if that would help - guessing not, since I think you format the external drives differently if using on an Intel Mac vs a Power PC. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the same question but in reverse. I want to take my library from my powerbook to my iMac Intel. Any help anyone can give us would be great. Thanks and I am sorry for coattailing your question but I thought it was strange at the same time a mirrior question was asked.

  • Help moving sites between computers

I need help please. I am helping a primary (elementary) school build and update their web site. They are using iWeb but not .Mac. These young children Publish To A Folder and I get the folder to upload to the server that hosts their site. I would like to be able to tidy up some of their formatting etc before uploading, but iWeb on my machine doesn't see their files even when I put them in my Sites folder. Is this something to do with the Domain file in the Library folder? Can someone please give me a strategy for adding to their files on my computer, uploading them and then reloading the altered files back to their computer for further work??

    Hi greysenior,
    Welcome to the forums.
Yes, it has everything to do with the Domain.sites file, stored in this location on the hard drive.
Allow them to continue to publish to a folder, as this will give the kids a sense of finality with their work in the iWeb application. But when you go to collect the Site folder/index.html file, also make a copy of the Domain.sites file and move it to the desktop of your machine. (A flash drive is a good choice for this task). Then, just double-click the Domain.sites file on the desktop. iWeb will launch that Domain, and you will have all of the work they have done in the application on your machine for editing/tweaking.
Then, you can publish to a folder and upload the files to the server of your choice.

  • Moving lightroom between computers

I want to move lightroom from my old computer to my new one, but i have lost my licence. What should i do?

If Lightroom is still running on the old computer, then programs such as Belarc Advisor ought to be able to find the serial number on your old computer from wherever it is stored.
If that doesn't work, and you registered your software with Adobe, you can log onto the Adobe web site and recover the number from there.
And if that doesn't work, um ...........
I would also suggest that you develop a much better mechanism for keeping track of your serial numbers for all of your software, no excuses ...

  • Moving Motion Projects Between Computers

My apologies, as I'm sure this must have been answered elsewhere - however I can't find the answer, so:
I'm moving a Motion project between two computers (Project file & media ) - I can do this easily with Final Cut Projects (you just relink the files) however - even when I "relink" the files in my Motion project - my timeline remains empty (unlike FCP, which will show the files):
What's the best technique to move Motion files between computers?
    Thanks In Advance

Good tip actually - but sadly, it isn't working that way!
I don't get it - could there be anything I'm doing wrong in the transfer/copy procedure? Is there some way I can change the mapping/references in the preferences from absolute to relative to the files?
    Thanks in advance

  • Moving Collection Info Between Computers

Is there a way to copy collection information between computers (OSX)? For example, if I create a collection on my laptop can I transfer this "list" to my office computer (where all the original files of which the collection is a subset get transferred)or is it necessary to recreate the collection?
    Thanks

You can copy the entire library file to the other computer along with the image files. If you have the same folder tree structure on both machines it should be seamless unless they have different root directories in which case you'll have to relocate an image for LR to find the rest.
The other way is to wait for the Adobe folks to put a binders-like functionality back into LR after it was lost between LR B4 and LR V1.

  • Moving Data Between PC and new MBP

I am capturing on a PC (TV Tuner) with files that are roughly 5GB in size, with events totaling as much as 50 GB. I am going to edit them in FCS on my Mac.
I was wondering if someone can suggest a portable HD that works on both reliably. I was thinking that I would want firewire 800, eSata, and USB 2.0 .
is there a better way to do this?

Most any USB or Firewire drive should work, but you would need to use either Fat32 or NTFS format as Windows can't read the OS X file system
If your router has a USB port and network drive capability, you might consider setting up a network drive, as you wouldn't need to keep moving it back and forth between computers.
You could also set up an external drive as a shared network resource on whichever computer it's connected to so it could be accessed from the other computer without actually having to move it.
