Moving "Faces" only data into Aperture from iPhoto

Just starting out with Aperture 3. Don't want to migrate my iPhoto library to my new Aperture library and clutter everything up. BUT, I do want to have it all the Faces data imported so that any new photos I import will be tagged appropriately. Is there a way I can do this?
Thanks,
Steve

There's no way to move just metadata from iPhoto to Aperture. Its the images or nothing.

You may need to prepare yourself for a "World of Hurt" from your wife...
Since the average 0.9 megapixel JPEG photo file of normal graphic complexity stored at a high quality compression setting is 125-135 KBs in size, I would have to assume any QT video files you created of more than a fraction of a second in duration were most likely saved as "reference" files to only be 50-150 KBs. Basically, a reference file is q QT (MOV) file that tells a video player how to play data that is still stored in its original source file container(s). For instance, you could trim and merge a number of files together and save the result as a "reference" file that takes up very little room on your hard drive. Or, you could post fles to a server and create a "reference" file that is small enough to be sent as an email attachment that plays the uploaded data on someone else's computer as long as they are connected to the Internet. Unfortunately, for these reference files to work, all of the resources referenced within the file must continue to exist in their proper locations in order to be found and played by the reference. Since you did not indicate what "but they won't play" really means here or how you actually "moved" your iPhoto library files to the external drive, I can only make some "educated guesses" at this point. (BTW: for future reference, iPhoto has a built-in function that allows you to copy your library to one or more back-up locations and then connect to them by default when iPhoto opens or switch source libraries at will within the opened application.)
If you created reference files and saved them to an external drive, you should be getting an error message telling you the app needs to know where the source files are located so the reference file can re-connect to the resource data. If the original files were also saved, then simple navigate to the source files in oder to tell the app where they are now located. If the source files were deleted as part of the reformatting process, then you are up the proverbial creek whithout a paddle with little or no hope of doing anything about this issue. (I.e., reformatting and then re-installing a system drive usually means you would have little hope of recovering the specific "lost" data you want as there is always a good chance that some of the data segments were overwritten during the process.)

  • How to bulk import data into CQ5 from MySQL and file system

Is there an easy way to bulk import data into CQ5 from MySQL and file system?  Some of the files are ~50MB each (instrument files).  There are a total of ~1,500 records spread over about 5 tables.
    Thanks

What problem are you having writing it to a file?
You can't use FORALL to write the data out to a file, you can only loop through the entries in the collection 1 by 1 and write them out to the file like that.
FORALL can only be used for SQL statements.

  • Proxy creation/ access key in the how to guide "push data into BW from XI"

    Hi !
I'm experiencing troubles with a step of the how to guide "push Data into BW from XI".
When i want to create the proxy in the BW system (step 10), i'm asked for an access key for the object R3TR CLAS CL_<name of the prefix>_<name of message interface>
I think that access keys are needed when an object has to be modified. Do I really have to modify this SAP object ? I don't really feel like destroying the whole system...
    Thanks in advance !

    Hi Benjamin,
you are not destroying anything in the system. Since you generating a class for the implementation of the proxy within the SAP name space, you are asked for the access key (you can register developers and objects via the OSS).
The system behavior depends on the setting of the system, whether changes are are recorded, etc..
Ask your basis administrator, who should be able to assist you.

  • Insert Data into Table from TXT or CSV file !!!!!

    Dear All,
Recently I have started working on APEX. In Oracle Forms, we used to use TEXT_IO for inserting records into tables from txt files. Now I want to do the same thing in apex 3.2. How can I insert data into tables from txt of csv files.
    Waiting of your valuable suggestions.
    With kind regards,
    Yousuf.

    Yousuf
wwv_flow_files is used by APEX to hold uploaded files.
If you incorporate a file browse item on you page, browse for the selected file, then submit the page (having the PL/SQL process described as an on suibmit process) then what I detailed should work.
If you don't need users to have access to this then just go to Home>Utilities>Data Load/Unload in APEX and there is a handy load utility there that does it all for you.
    Cheers

  • Can't log into Facebook from iPhoto 11

No matter what I try I can no longer log into Facebook from iPhoto 11 (it was working previously). I deleted the account from preferences and then went to add it again - but when I enter my details (which are confirmed as being correct) I cannot log in. it hunts for a while then says that an "unknown error" occured.
I've seen that some people have been able to fix this by going into their privacy settings in Facebook. iPhoto seemed to be enabled there. I turned everything off in the Apps privacy settings in Facebook and turned on again but stil it doesn't work. I also don't have "Little Snitch" installed as I understand that to sometimes conflict.
It seems that  have the same sharing issue in Analog.
Does anyone have any idea please? I'm incredibly frustrated by this.... Thanks
Macbook Air, 13", Mountain Lion 10.8.2

After 5 Hours between Apple support and myself we finally got it!
Sign on to facebook through safari. Go to your settings, On the left hand column click on Apps, there you will need to turn it on.
Also Make sure that when Iphoto is open on the left column you have Shared and the facebook icon is there. (Icloud should be there too) If not then go to the top menu bar while iphoto is open and click on share, click on facebook and sign in from there.
At least this worked for me! Good luck to all!

  • Can you import into Aperture from the IPhoto library on Time Machine?

Having size problems with huge IPhoto library.  Would like to install Aperture and import from iPhoto library backup on Time Machine HD but would like to know before I purchase Aperature.

No replies so I purchased Aperture and attempted to import from Aperture.  Could not do it. Very disappointing.

  • Missing faces/places after event import from iPhoto to A3

    Hello,
I am interested in switching from iPhoto 09 (8.1.1) to Aperture 3. I downloaded the Trial Version yesterday evening. I have a very big iPhoto library (28.000+ pictures) and I did not want to import all of them right now. I wanted just a few events in A3 to play around with it.
I imported 3 different events into A3 via File - Import - Show iPhoto Browser. I selected the 3 events and put them per drag & drop into project. The few pictures were imported really quickly but I have some problems afterwards.
    1. All the pictures are missing the faces and places which I assigned them in iPhoto.
    2. Except the pictures taken with the iPhone - they had the places assigned to them.
    3. I do not have any issues with the keywords. They are all there.
First I though I made a mistake somewhere. So I tried this at my OneToOne at the Apple Store today. We did the same thing on their iMac and had the same issues. After importing an event we were missing the places and faces.
When I got home I created a new user on my MacBook and tried the same thing with that user account. I created a new iPhoto library (with a few pictures in it) and a new A3 library. I imported pictures with assigned faces and places and some pictures taken with the iPhone as well.
Every time I import a few events A3 does the same thing:
~ It imports the different events into different albums in one project.
~ All the photos taken with the iPhone will keep the places pin.
~ All other photos will loose their places pin.
~ All imported photos will loose their faces names.
~ All pictures will keep their keywords.
Does anybody else have this problem? Any ideas?

I'm having a similar problem with missing Places after importing from iPhoto 09 to A3.
After scratching my head over it, I created a new account on my Mac, imported some pictures from my camera and iPhone, and did some tests with Places. Here's what I figured out:
To retain the Faces and Places information from iPhoto, you need to use Aperture's
    File-->Import-->iPhoto Library...
    command, not the
    File-->Import-->Show iPhoto Browser...
    command.
My testing indicates that Faces were imported successfully, but Places are imported with caveats:
Places data was correctly imported for the following cases:
    1. iPhone pictures with embedded GPS location.
    2. Pictures whose Places location was assigned with the Paste Location feature in iPhoto.
    3. Pictures whose location was individually assigned with the i (information) button and then manually searched for in the Places map.
Places data was NOT imported when the location was assigned to the entire Event in iPhoto. That is, rather than assigning locations to individual photos, I assigned a location to the entire Event, then that location information was NOT successfully imported into Aperture.
I have reported this as a bug to Apple. I hope this helps clarify the behavior for you.

  • Fully Migrate to Aperture from iPhoto

I am ready. Whats the best means of doing the final transfer? I currently just have aperture running my iPhoto library.

    I am ready.
    Great! Welcome to the Club!
Whats the best means of doing the final transfer? I currently just have aperture running my iPhoto library.
You could just continue doing this, but it would have some advantages to convert the iPhoto library into an Aperture library. The formats are compatible, but Aperture handles previews more efficiently.
You still will be able to open the converted library with iPhoto. Just for testing I imported an iPhoto library into Aperture, and the reduction in size was enourmous.
To convert the iPhoto library into an Aperture library, I'd suggest the following steps:
    Backup your current iPhoto/Aperture library.
In iPhoto reveal all hidden photos; Aperture cannot unhide them.
Repair the library using the first aid tools. iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library
Empty the trash and quit iPhoto.
Launch Aperture with the ⌥-key held down and select "other/new" to create a new, empty library. Do you have enough disk space to hold two copies of your library plus some additional space, that will be needed during import? Otherwise move your iPhoto library to an external drive.
In Aperture use the command "File > Import > Library" and select the iPhoto library to import.
If your library is large, this may take some time.
Aperture had recently problems with smart albums created in iPhoto (hangs, slow processing). You may want to delete the old smart albums and replace them by smart albums defined new in Aperture.
Your new Aperture library will contain the Faces from your iPhoto Library, also the Print Products, but you will not be able to edit the books and cards. For this you will need to edit the books in iPhoto.
If you are moving the new library to an external drive, remember that Aperture requires the Aperture library to be on a disk formatted Mac OS X Extended (JOurnaled).

  • RAW NEF files imported into Aperture from a Nikon D70 are dark

I imported one roll of images straight from the CF card from my Nikon D70 into Aperture.
I also imported them into Nikon PictureProject. (the current application I use)
All the NEF's in Aperture are darker than the NEF's in PictureProject. Has anyone else seen this issue?
Also, any NEF that I have previously edited and saved in Nikon Capture Editor, do not display any of the changes when imported into Aperture. Interesting that the Finder shows the thumbnail correctly. Has anyone else seen this issue?
    Thanks, Scott K.

I've imported a few of the NEF files I've gotten from my D2X, and for the most part, they look fine. A little darker than when displayed in Adobe Bridge and ACR, but not that much darker. This is probably just the way the image converter is interpreting the RAW data. A couple of minor levels adjustments for me, and they look fine.
As for Aperture not "seeing" the changes made to a RAW file in Nikon Capture. That may be due to the way Capture applies its changes to the file. If when you make a change, Capture simply adds the adjustments to a side car file, etc., and doesn't change the original RAW file (which it should never do), then Aperture is only reading the original RAW data. The side car info is not understood by Aperture. At least not now.
This is pretty much the same way ACR works.

  • Problem Importing to Aperture from iPhoto

I have already imported the entire iPhoto Library to Aperture, but several images are missing.  I now want to import the missing images from iPhoto to Aperture.  The Aperture Manual states that, in Aperture, I should be able to open the iPhoto Browser by using File>Import>iPhoto Browser, but when I go File>Import I do not get the iPhoto Browser option.  How can I select specific images in iPhoto to import into Aperture?

The Aperture Manual states that, in Aperture, I should be able to open the iPhoto Browser by using File>Import>iPhoto Browser, but when I go File>Import I do not get the iPhoto Browser option.
Some parts of the manual need updating. The iPhoto browser has been discontinued, when the unified Aperture-iPhoto library has been introduced.
    If you want to import selectively from iPhoto, open your iPhoto library in Aperture and create an album;
add the images you want to use in Aperture to that album
then select the album in the Info panel and export this album as a new Aperture library.    File > Export > Album as library.
Switch to your main Aperture library (File > Switcch to Library)  and import the small library with the iPhoto album.
    Regards
    Léonie
Added: You could also simply open iPhoto on the iPhoto Library and Aperture on the main Aperture library and drag the photos you want from the iPhoto window to a project in Aperture. But that will only give you the current jpeg versions, not the original files as well.

  • Moving pics location and removing images from iphoto

    Here is the basic breakdown.
    1. Imported pics from camera into iphoto.
    2. I want to remove some of the pics from iphoto.
    3. I do not want to use delete due to I want to burn/move a copy to CD or a different folder on my HD.
    4. I moved a couple for test purposes from my iphoto lib to my home folder.
    5. Reboot.
    6. In iphoto I can still see the photos in the smaller views. but when I try to full screen the photo I get an grey screen ?x type of thing.
I do not want the small pic either.
    Advice or direction?
    Thanks.
    T

    T Slap:
To add to Terence's suggestions I'd like to expand on:
    3. I do not want to use delete due to I want to burn/move a copy to CD or a different folder on my HD.
To copy those photos to another folder use the File->Export->File Export menu option. This will copy the files to the location of your choice.
To burn the photos to disk so that iPhoto can access them at a later date then use the method described by Terence. To burn just the jpg files to a disk without the iPhoto format use the Export route again to a folder on the desktop and then burn that folder via the Finder.
And do not take the warning about messing with files via the Finder lightly. As you found out it can really mess up the library.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Exporting original creation dates with images from IPhoto 08

Hello experts: I'm trying to create an archival, file-based image storage structure outside of iPhoto 08 (7.1.5). When I use File/Export to add images to the archival file in the Finder, the resulting image is fine but the original creation date of the image is lost, being changed to a different, and later, date. I've tried ways of moving the image, including dragging, cut and paste, transferring the image to Aperture 2 and exporting, etc. and there's no joy. Any suggestions other than manual redos with A Better Finder Rename 8?
    Sierra!Hiker

Why do you think that the date is lost?
I suspect that you are confusing photos dates (stored in the EXIF data of the photo and viewable by photo programs) with the file dates which are viewable in file programs like the finder - the finder does not look at photo dates (EXIF) and photo programs do not look at the file date unless there is no EXIF data - the the file date is used by iPhoto

  • Viewing Pictures inserted into Eudora from iPhoto '08

I tried inserting (NOT attaching), by dragging-and-dropping, a photo I'd exported from iPhoto '08 into the text of an e-mail I was composing on Eudora v. 6.2.4. Cc's of the message to Hotmail and Yahoo addresses displayed the picture correctly, but a Cc back to Eudora showed only an icon which, when clicked, resulted in the message "Core Image Fun House cannot open files of this type". This was never a problem with iPhoto '06, and I did it all the time! (I tried again, this time first opening the picture in "Preview" and saving it as a .jpg file before insertion with the same result.) Is this another reason NOT to have bought iLife '08? Can Eudora users no longer display inserted images? (Bad enough that my web-site on iWeb '08 can no longer be read by 95% of the population—the ones who use only "Internet Explorer" and have probably never heard of "Firefox" or "Safari", nor want to!)

Thanks for the response... this is getting a little closer. The files in question--since they were inserted, rather than attached-- are not, in fact, in the "Attachments" folder, but in the folders named "Parts Folder" and "Spool Folder" (also to be found in the "Eudora Folder"). (I've never quite understood these ones... something about outgoing vs. incoming, I thing! And they've usually been renamed to some code name.)
It seems that the ones that wouldn't allow themselves to be displayed are listed (without a .jpg extender) as "Documents" and couldn't be opened by "Preview", the ones that did display were listed as "JPEG Image" and could be opened by "Preview". If I added a ".jpg" extender to the non-display ones, they did actually then open in Preview.
At this point I've added and removed so many ".jpg" extenders to various files that I no longer recall where I'm at, so I'll take a bit of a time out, regroup, and report back. Hope this is all of some ultimate use to someone else out there, eventually!
