how do I move music from I-tunes library to Windows Media playlists? It used to be drag and drop.

Just use the files themselves, not iTunes. Use Windows Explorer to find where your files are stored and then drag and drop those into Windows Media Player.

Sorry, I see that there is a Studio version that allows conversion to wmv - I only had the free basic version for Flip4Mac - should have looked more closely at the website!

Moving music from windows media player

i swear ive done this before, but i cannot remember how i did it. how do i move .wma files from windows media player into itunes library? i cannot drag them over, i just get the circle w/ a slash. ive tried sync-ing them directly onto my nano from media player program & it lists them in the pop up window on my computer, but they are lsited no where in song titles on my actual nano for me to access. ive tried converying the format & it wont allow me. i know it can be done, i just cant figure out how. thank you.

First, find out where Media Player has stored the music files on your computer. It typically is in Documents and Settings\(Your Name)\My documents\My Music and then there should be a folder that has a name that resembles Media Player. If you pull up Tools>Options and click the "Rip Music" tab it will show you where you have your music stored. So then pull up this folder that it tells you to, then pull up the iTunes window as well, and then simply drag and drop the folders into your iTunes music library. iTunes will convert the songs automatically for you, sometimes this may take a while. For example, I have 3300 songs on my Hard Drive and it took the entire day for iTunes to convert all of the ones it needed to. So just be patient and you should be good to go.

I have many gb's of music in my Windows Media Player...now that I have an ipod I want to move the music over. Do I really have to do this one file at a time or is there away to move over whole albums at once? Is there a way to transfer the entire library at once? Do I have to reload ALL of those CD's? Maybe you can help me out too. I have copied over 250 gigs of music in WAV loss less files to windows media player. On media player I see the artist, album etc. However, when I add the file, either as the song or whole album only the track number and song title copy to the itunes. How do I get all the other information like genre, album title, artist. If I convert to applelossless I still do not get anything and when I search AppleSTore for album art nothing happens. Use Edit > Preferences > General tab > Import Settings to set your desired import format and bitrate. Note there is no point converting 128k wma into 320k mp3, you'll just get bigger files with no improvement in quality. Once you have set your import settings just drag & drop the files you want converted into iTunes.

Getting files from Windows Media Player

I tried to import some songs into iTunes, but was told that the CD was not compatible with iTunes. So, I put the files into Windows Media Player. Now when I open iTunes and then try to add files to the library, I can't find the CD I imported anywhere in My Computer. Does anyone know a way to get them into iTunes?

Try your "My Music" folder; that's the default repository for music ripped by WMP.

Why won't Quicktime 7.4.1 play .wmv files when Windows Media Player will?

I am running OS 10.4.11 on a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 2002. When I try to play .wmv files, the following message appears: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." However, I can play such files using Windows Media Player. I have installed Quicktime 7.4.1. That hasn't helped.

when I first got my ipod, only half of my music files moved from windows media player into itunes. Is there anyway I can import the rest of the music from windows media player into Itunes? I have tried using the import function and add file or folder to library and they do not seem to work!

iTunes will not accept Window Media player tracks that are protected. If you imported them off your own CDs, did you check the option to apply protection to them? If so, your only choice is to re-rip those CDs.

How to get rid of duplicate files in Windows Media Player 11, I am seeking an answer if at all possible.

I don't know if this is the appropriate forum to ask this question....if it is not please guide me to the correct support forum. I am just trying to find out if there is an easier way of getting rid of duplicate files in my Windows Media Player 11.
Also how do I prevent my Media player from obtaining all these duplicate files from other libraries. I have iTunes installed and my home network has four other computers belonging in the home group that have all their own respective music libraries.

I can sync media files from Windows Media Player to my ipod, but the information will not show up on my ipod. Why?

I HATE using iTunes (it's a pain in the bleeping arse) so, despite what someone from Apple told me, I tried to sync a song from Windows Media Player onto my ipod. The sync appears to be successful, and yet when I ejected my ipod to check to see if the song was on there, it was not. Why? And how do I get it on there? I want to avoid using iTunes at all costs.

Try MediaMonkey or Winamp. Unlike Windows Media Player which will just blindly throw the files onto the iPod's hard drive these two at least (there may be others) know that they have to update the device's database if you are going to be able to access the content that has been added.

Add files already stored on your computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12485 and http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12493
Do either of the following:
Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window.If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.
By default, adding items to your iTunes library places a pointer to each file in the iTunes folder; the original file remains in the current location. For information about copying files to the iTunes folder instead of creating pointers to them, see Change where your iTunes files are stored. If the file is an unprotected WMA file and you have Windows Media Player Series 9 or later installed, iTunes makes a copy of the file and adds it to your iTunes library. The original WMA file remains unchanged. You can’t add protected WMA files or protected WMV files to iTunes.

Encoding iMovie files for Windows Media Player

I edit audio/video in iMovie (currently the only program I have) and need to output for streaming on the internet. Most of our subscribers are using older versions of Windows Media Player and as I understand won't be able to play MP4. I couldn't play the MP4 using Windows Media Player 9.0, "invalid format" error.
What software could I use to convert MP4 to a format for streaming on the internet that our subscribers play using WMP? Should I save the file out of iMovie in a different format to convert?
I have Adobe Media Encoder 4.2.0.006 but my options are h.264 or flash, got error messages when I tried to "Edit Export Settings".

The easiest way is to upload video to YouTube and embed videos on your site from there. This way you don't have to worry about which version of Windows, which version of Internet Exlorere, etc.
Another way, ask your users to install QuickTime For Windows. Then export normally,
Another way, get one of the paid versions of Flip4Mac, and you can convert files to wmv using QuickTime Pro or MPEG Streamclip or Compressor.

Problem with import files from windows media player into iTunes

When I have tried to import my .wav lossless files created under windows media player into iTunes I use File, add folder to library but when the action is completed I get all of the files under the heading 'unknown album' with 'unknown artist'.
Does anyone know that I need to do in order to include the artist and album ?

You'll first need to add the MP3s to your iTunes library since the iPod is not compatible with Windows Media Player. You can use, for example, the File > Add to Library menu to do this.
