Moving Final Cut Express 4.01 to another computer, can I de-authorize one?

Hi... I have FCE on my laptop and wish to move it to my desktop 27". Is there a way to de-authorize it on my laptop and then reinstall on the 27"? The license will stay in my name and for my company. Thank you...

No deauthorization is necessary. Simply use FCS Remover to install it, and then use the original discs to install on the 27".

  • Moving Final Cut Studio to another computer

I just got a new G5 and want to take my Final Cut Studio off my Power Book G4 and put it on the G5 and then instal Final Cut Express on the Power Book.
Can I transfer the license to another computer and if so how is my question.
Thank you for your time, Robert

All you need to do is remove it from the powerbook, and install it on the G5. The license for the softare is for the software, not what machine it is on. But it can only reside on one machine...which you know.
    Good for you.

  • New user of Final Cut Express - recommendation for book, resource, training

I am a new user of Final Cut Express 4. Actually, I'm a new user of Mac too. I mastered Pinnacle on my PC but got fed up with the glitches, freezing etc.
Could use some advice on a good BEGINNER resource.
    Anyone???

Hi and welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Since FCE has a relatively steep learning curve, I would recommend getting one of two training books:
    1. [Final Cut Express 4 Editing Workshop|http://www.amazon.com/Final-Cut-Express-Editing-Workshop/dp/0240810775 /ref=sr12?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240436986&sr=8-2] by Tom Wolsky. This is how I learned the program and I can assure you that it is a comprehensive guide with everything from basic to more advanced techniques. I highly recommend it. Tom is a frequent contributor to this forum, so if you had any questions about a lesson then he'd be here to help you out.
    2. [Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Express 4|http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Pro-Training-Final-Express/dp/0321534670/ref=sr14?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1240437118&sr=8-4] by Diana Weynand. Though I can't vouch for it personally, I have heard from many people who were pleased with their experience learning from this book, and I'm sure it is quite good also.
There are also several good sites I've visited with free tutorials that you might like to check out:

    Hope that helps,

  • Capturing analog into Final Cut Express HD

I'm new to Apple. I transferred analog video onto DVD and tried to download it into my MacPro using both Imovie and Final Cut Express HD to edit. I can do this easily on my Dell but can't on my Apple with either program. Any answers?

Buy an A-D Converter for $200 or more. If your camcorder has AV IN you can use that.
Otherwise download Streamclip free and use that to convert to DV:-

  • LiveType and Final Cut Express 4.0

I have used Final Cut Express since the beginning. I updated to 3 then to 4. Now I just recently gotten a new intel iMac. I used the quick and easy method to transfer my old computer onto my new one. When I went to try to use LiveType, it wanted a serial number. I put in my version 3 serial number. It's the only one I have because the first version I got of Final Cut Express was preinstalled on my computer. I don't have any install CD's for the first version. The problem is LiveType will not recognize these numbers. Any suggestions? It doesn't seem possible that they will make me buy a whole new version of Final Cut just to get LiveType to work. HELP!

The bad news is that if you only have Upgrade versions of FCE and do not have an Original Full Retail version there is nothing you can do.
You must have a Full Retail serial number.
If you had it registered, you could contact Apple, but I wouldn't hold out much hope.
Incidentally, there is no +"quick and easy"+ way to transfer FCE. You have to install from the DVD or a .dmg.

  • Download Final Cut Express 4.0.1 impossible,help

After a new load of Os 10.5.8 (PowerMac G5) and load of Final Cut Express 4.0 no update for Version 4.0.1 is possible. After Softwareupdate: System has the newest version. What can I do better?

I just figured out how to install the 4.0.1 update in Mavericks. The problem is that the old Software Update mechanism is completely gone in Mavericks.
    1. Install Final Cut Express 4.0 on a computer running Mountain Lion (but I’m sure that Lion or Snow Leopard would work, as well).
    2. On the command line use “sudo softwareupdate --download FCE401-4.0.1”.
    3. Go to /Library/Updates/ and look in the various folders therein for FinalCutExpress4.0.1Update.pkg. This is about 128 MB in size.
    4. Copy that installer .pkg file to your Mavericks computer and double-click.
Presto! This will update your previously installed Final Cut Express 4.0 to Version 4.0.1.

  • Final Cut Express 4 Keeps Quitting Unexpectedly?

So, on my old computer, I had Final Cut Express 4. However, that computer crashed and is no longer in use, resulting in all applications and documents from my old computer being transferred into a hard drive. I plugged in my hard drive to my new computer, and when I try to open Final Cut Express, almost immediately a small window pops up saying "The application Final Cut Express quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected." I had MANY times try to click relaunch, then reset and relaunch, but the same window appears each time. What should I do? Will my Final Cut EVER be able to work on this computer or any other? Or will I have to purchase a new one? Thanks SO much!

    My suggestion:
    Remove FCE withhttp:
    //www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
Then reinstall from your FCE disc.

  • Using Final Cut Express for Ipod Touch

I'm using Final Cut Express to bring a group of MP4 videos together into one video - for viewing on an Ipod Touch G2. Any advise on the best settings to use.
Appreciate and and all help I can get!
    Dean

So - I don't need to edit it, simply compile a bunch of videos together. The problem I have with iMovie 09 is that I need to see the list of video files by name. iMovie 09 won't present listings of video files by name, only by thumbnail.
To be honest - I'd rather use iMovie 09 as it seems to compile my files MUCH faster. I have a MacPro 2.33Mhz with 8 GB Ram, and a 24 hour video is taking up to 24 hours to compile.

  • Need to totally delete Final Cut Express off networked machine

I have two licenses for Final Cut Express to use on two networked machines. I loaded one and was working on it and needed to load the second license. Unfortunately, I picked up the wrong box and loaded the same one twice. Since these are networked computers, I and my support person cannot work at the same time. I have tried to delete all the files I can find so I can load the correct second license, but it still treats my "reload" as an upgrade and won't let me give it the second license number. Can any one tell me what I am missing?
    Thanks!

Go to Library/Application Support/ProApps and trash the Final Cut Express System ID file.

  • Converting a Final Cut Pro project into one Final Cut Express HD can read..

Is there any way I can convert a final cut pro project into something i can open in an earlier version of final cut, namely final cut express HD?

    Tim,
Unfortunately you can not go from FCP to FCExpress. You can go backwards from say FCP7 to FCP6 or FCP 5 using XML's. The XML version depends on which FCP you have.

  • Final Cut Express 4 and avchd

I read an article that recommended your products so I'm hoping you can help me.  I recently bought a Panasonic AC-90A HD video camera which uses AVCHD recording format. In the article it said that I should be able to upload into Final Cut Express 4 and edit. I can upload to the viewing screen, however, I can't seem to bring the clips into the bins which I need to do to edit. Would you be able to help finding the problem and clearing it so that I can edit.
    Thank you,
    John

This is a user to user forum. You are not addressing Apple here.
Can you describe exactly what you are doing and where the problem occurs?
Can you verify you are using FCE version 4.01?
On your camera can you verify you are not shooting in the 1080 60P mode? 1080 60P AVCHD was not a standard when Apple discontinued and abandoned FCE, so that functionality was never added.

  • Hdd camcorder to final cut express

I have a panasonic h18 camcorder that writes to a hard disk drive in mpeg-2 format. This format cannot import directly to final cut express 3.5 (fce). How can I get my camcorder video into fce.

You have to convert it to DV format. Go to: http://www.squared5.com and download the free software. You will also need the apple codec (20 bucks) for your sound to work. Read the info about which one to get ( I forget which one it was).

  • Installation skips Final Cut Express upgrade; installs only Soundtrack/LivT

Maybe I'm missing something. I've tried installing FCE HD 3.5 upgrade over the previous version, and then tried uninstalling Final Cut Express 3.1 completely and installing Final Cut Express 3.5 alone, but I can't seem to install it. Even after running disk utility and making sure that I was logged in as Administrator, correctly entering License, then Selecting Destination, the installation type still only lists the SoundTrack package (4.GB) and LiveType (9.7GB) as viable installations. And both installed fine. The Final Cut Express HD package (18.6MB) is grayed out and unavailable.
What's going on? I believe my iMac G4 fits the minimum system requirements. Any suggestions?
    iMac (15 flat-panel)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1GB, 800mhz, 66GB on hard drive available for installation
    iMac (15 flat-panel)   Mac OS X (10.3)

I installed the FCE 3.5 upgrade without unistalling any thing of the 3.0.1 version I had (actually I wasn't sure that was the right approach, and the enclosed booklet wasn't really clear about).
Installation was straightforward; the installation type listed all three programs (FCE, Soundtrack, LiveType) with the "Upgrade" label, and I had to input only the upgrade reg.number.
Probably you should try again a clean reinstall of the 3.0.1 version first and then upgrade.

  • Final Cut Express, Chapter Markers iDVD

How does this particular tool work with iDVD?
Obviously, I do all my editing in FCE4. Then I convert it an .MOV file & transfer/burn it to DVD with i-DVD.
Must I create separate chapters within iDVD itself in order to have actual chapter menus on my DVD? If so, what purpose do the chapter markers serve in Final Cut Express? The only thing I can assume is that it will give the viewer the ability to “scan” with the channel button on their DVD player, but there will not be an actual menu on the opening screen of the DVD itself...???
    Any answers appreciated, thanks!
    Auggie

    I know to little.
What I know and that is important is
    • Don't set a Chaper marker in the very beginning of Your movie. iDVD demands to
do this start marker by it self.
    • in iMovie HD6 or prior - there is one more thing - not to set a Chapter mark in a
transition or within 2 sec of it.
Don't know how this relate to Final Cut - my guess is - not at all.
BUT THERE ARE ONE - Super Important thing more.
    • Titles of Chapters can only be set from a to z and 0 to 9.
    DON'T even try !"#€%&/()=? etc.
If You do the encoding process in iDVD will halt (often close to the end) with
    the sad message "Multiplexing Error"
    Yours Bengt W
