Moving Folders in iOS6

Since iOS6 upgrade, I can't move folders from one page to another.  My iPad "reboots" and returns folders to the previous location.  Is anyone else having this problem?

Try doing a hard reset of the iPad, hold down the power/home button until you get the apple then let go.  That should fix your problem, if it still persist back up and do a restore on the iPad.

  • Moving folders in Lightroom - lost all my pictures!

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me recover my files, although something tells me they are gone for good.
I keep my lightroom catalog and files in my external hard drive, but my HD is old and it was getting full, so I bought a new one to split my work and personal files.
I started by moving my work lightroom catalog, which went fine. Next step was to move my work folders from the old HD to the new HD. I thought the best way to do this was through lightroom, so as to avoid the 'missing file' problem. I have my folders organised by year, so I started with my 2012 folder, containing thousands of pictures from that year. I simply dragged the 2012 folder from the old HD to the new HD and waited (a very long time) for the move to finish.
When it finished, it came up with an error message saying some files couldn't be moved, and listed the files that couldn't be moved. It seemed like a lot of files, and they were grouped as 1-100, 101-200, 201-300, etc. So I clicked on the 2012 folder and all the sub-folders were there, named correctly, but they were empty. I then went to Finder on my Macbook to look for the files and the 2012 sub-folders were empty!
The 2012 folder and its sub-folders are present on both the old and the new HDs, but all my pictures are gone from both HDs.
I have no idea how this happened and what I can do to fix this. How can Lightroom delete my pictures when all I was doing was moving them to a new HD? And why did it move the folders and sub-folders correctly, but the pictures are gone? Any help will be much appreciated!
All I know is I'm NEVER moving folders inside Lightroom again!
    Thanks!

    Hello,
did you look in the trashcan? LR normally move images to the trashcan.
You can try some recovery program and try to rescue some images. I like PhotoRec but there may better (comercial) programs. After recovery you may try to relink the lightroom catalog to the files in your filesystem. I wrote an article in my blog how to do so in my blog for an other forum post. May be this may help you to loose not all of you images (in case you do not have a backup - but we all have ).

  • Problem with missing files after moving folders around

    Hi,
I keep my music files manually organized. This is mostly because I have a LOT of music and I don't want to take up all the space on my MBP HD. So my music is split up between 2 external drives and the MBP drive.
I was moving around some folders since I wanted to reorganize my music folders, and iTunes can't seem to find the files anymore, and in order to fix it I see I need to find each and every file I moved (which is really not practical).
I tried editing the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file, but it seems to get rebuilt from some other place where this information is stored.
I also tried putting aliases in the old folders' locations pointing to the new ones (iTunes kept saying the files are missing)
Is there any way to simplify the process of moving folders?? This is really strange that such a feature is missing.
    Thanks
    Yaron

If you have the 'keep' option enabled and let iTunes do the work - take a sound track album as an example - that has various artists and you didn't tell iTunes that the album was a compilation album - then iTunes will put all the tunes into into the iTunes Music folder as Artist>Album>Song - if you have the compilation option enabled for the tunes on that same album - iTunes will nest it as iTunes Music>Compilation>Album>Song. This helps reduce the clutter in the iTunes Music folder with a thousand artists and only one tune for that artist.
With the 'keep' option selected iTunes will move tunes automatically within the iTunes Music folder. Since iTunes moved the files it can keep track of the links.
To create a second library launch iTunes with the 'option' key down and follow the dialog box instructions. I have a 'Master iTunes Library' on my internal HD and several ext HD's with other libraries which I give unique names i.e.: Really Big Music. I give the library data base file its' own unique name so I don't accidentally erase the wrong file. I also keep all the files that you would normally see for an iTunes library on the ext HD (iTunes library. .xml, art work etc.,). If you are into lots of movies and TV Shows you could create a library on and ext HD with only video content and name it accordingly. You would keep all the files for that library including the library 'management' files on the ext HD in the same nesting as you would find on your internal HD.
This strategy works for me. I tried to manage the files by myself at one point and just had to many problems so I decided to not fight City Hall and go with the flow and it works for me.

  • Glitch when moving folders on my desktop

When moving folders around on my desktop, there are some positions on the grid that act "glitchy". When trying to drop a folder in some places, it will revert the folder back to its original position on the desktop or will push it to another position on the desktop. It's as if there is a hidden file on the position I want to move the folder to when there isn't. What's going on?

    1. Control (right) click on your desktop and open desktop settings.
    2. Check to make sure that the Icon size is set somewhat lower than the Grid spacing.

  • Problem moving folders with Lightroom 4.4 on Mac OS 10.7.5

I am trying to move a folder of recently edited files from my desktop to an external drive where I keep all my processed files using Lightroom but I keep getting a message that the folder can not be moved.
If I try to create a new folder on the external drive using Lightroom I get a message saying the folder could not be created.
This has just happened for the first time. I have never had issues with this in the past and have successfully moved many folders over the years.
I tried rebooting Lightroom to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

Make sure you have write permissions on the destination disk. You may need to repair permissions.

  • Problem with moving folders around

I was trying to move folder A into folder B (in folder B, there is already a folder named A). And then i realized that the folder A originally in folder B is entirely replaced by the new folder A -- everything in the old folder A is gone. Is it possible to change this behavior?

    Hi, haginile.
You probably misread the warning dialog telling you that there already was another "Folder A" in Folder B and asking you if you wanted to replace the existing one with the one you were attempting to copy into Folder B. The dialog would have read:An item named "Folder A" already exists in this location.
Do you want to replace it with the one you are moving?"The warning dialog has two buttons, Stop and Replace: the former stops the move or copy action, the latter replaces the existing Folder A within Folder B with the Folder A you are attempting to move or copy to Folder B. Looks like you selected Replace.
This behavior cannot be changed. I've heard some Windows users complain about this. As I understand it, Windows either offers options or automatically syncs the changes between the folders, whereas Mac OS X performs a true replacement if you select Replace in the warning dialog noted above.
    Good luck!

  • Moving folders or pictures to trash

I am a first time user of Lightroom 2.1 (Mac). Right now to remove the folders or pictures to trash I manually drag the icons to trash. Then in the Library Panel I highlight the affected grayed out folders or pictures and use the contextual manual and select the Remove command. Is there an easier way to do this because if I used the Remove command only without actually moving the affected files to Trash they would still be on my hard drive.
Also to import new folders and pictures into Lightroom I first actually copy them to my Lightroom catalog folder. Then I click on the Import button in the Library Panel and browse and select the just copied files. Is this the right way to make certain that the pictures actually get moved to the LR catalog folder?
    Thanks.
    David

    David-
Try this: select a photo you want to delete, hit the Delete key, then note the dialog. You need to be in Folder view, however, not collections.
Your method for Importing is fine, but there are many other ways to achieve that.

  • Problems moving folders to external drive on a Mac

I am having the hardest time moving pictures in lightroom to an external drive. I can select pictures and move them one by one, or in bulk, but if I select a folder of pictures and drag and drop them to an external drive, they won't move. It appears they have moved, but when I select the picture, and select show in finder, it shows they are being copied from my MASTER drive with pictures to my SSD boot drive root.
I have an SSD boot, a MASTER with all the pictures, an SSD scratch with the catalog, and an external drive for old pictures all running in Yosemite, Lightroom 5.7, on a Mac Pro.
Is there a way to reset Lightroom settings so I can start from scratch? Or is it possible it could be a permissions error. I tried setting all permissions on all drives to Read & Write for all folders and files with no luck.

You can start from scratch by creating a new catalog from the menu:
    File >> New catalog
Choose a new name for the catalog and save. When the empty calalog launches you are ready to import.
A safer way to move folders is to drag your folder using Finder to the external hard drive. That will make a copy of the folder and files. Then in LR you right-click (or control-click) on the folder name in the left-hand panel and choose update folder location. Navigate to the external drive location and LR will re-link everything automatically. The beauty of this method is that you can ensure everything is OK before deleting the folder from your internal drive.

  • Robohelp 9.0.1.232 crashes when moving folders

    The problem:
RH9 has started to crash after i move about the 2nd folder of topics. it can be 1 or more topics in the folder and it still crashes.
Upon restart the old location contains the original topics but with broken links; the new location contains just the moved and empty folder.
In Windows (on disk) the new location contains the correct files, but requires me to "import" the files or use "tools-->resolve broken links" to fix
random folders have been removed from RH9 - but exist on disk
    Steps taken:
uninstalled RH7, RH8 & RH9 completely (as RH9 has no "repair" feature which is disheartenting)
    Re-installed RH9
Updated to latest version available on Adobe's site
    Running correct Service Pack
    Questions:
Is there a Preferences file I could trash and replace?
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello again
Keep in mind that I've been using RoboHelp for about 20 years. So with that in mind, it's self evident that I'm very fond of working a different way. When RoboHelp 7 was introduced, it shipped with a new "view" of things that was unfamiliar. This was called "Global view". Fortunately, the development team provided a "Classic" view. That's the view I prefer.
Call me a stodgy old c00t if you want, but I find this view vastly simpler to use than the "new and improved" globall view.
Additionally, I believe the default setting for the dialog you see when clicking the funnel icon is to have all options enabled.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Problems by moving folders - lost pictures

    Using LR 4.4 on OS X 10.7.5
I have transferred some folders from my internal drive to an external (FW) drive. Whereas most of the transfer worked fine, I had the following problems:
    - one folder (at least) completely disappeared from LR. The files were moved to the new HDD (I can see them in Finder), an empty folder remains in LR under the "old" drive and there is nothing in LR at the new position.
    - an empty structure remained at the location of the old files
    - on some folders, I had the message "could not complete the folder move..." and only part of the pictures (or none at all) were moved.
I am at a lost and quite disappointed by the whole process...

It's ok, there is no damage in term of lost pictures. They are still somewhere to be found in the Finder. They just disappeared from LR (and yes, I have backups if needed ;-))
I would just want to be able to correctly move everything within LR and still see all my files in the catalog without needing to import them again (and thus loosing the processing, ...)

  • Moving Folders Version 2.  Please Help!

    Hello again,
Once again I need your help with the same script but I just need a little more help.  I'm an (very) amateur scripter and I'm still trying to grasp the fundementals.  This time I need your help, so that I can also move files as well as folders.  Here is my script so far, but it doesn't seem to be working.  Pretty much I want to make it so that if I click on Files it will do the same exact thing it does for folders, but with files.
    repeat
set theChoice to the button returned of (display dialog "Welcome to Cargo.  We make it easier to move multiple folders to a specific destination.  Would you like to move files or folders?" buttons {"Files", "Folders", "Cancel"})
              repeat
                        repeat
if theChoice is {"Folders"} then set srclist to choose folder with prompt "Choose the folder(s) you want to move" with multiple selections allowed
if theChoice is {"Folders"} then set dst to choose folder with prompt "Choose the destination folder"
if theChoice is {"Folders"} then if {dst} is in srclist then
display dialog "The destination cannot be in the source list."
                                  else
                                            exit repeat
                                  end if
                        end repeat
      --return {srclist, dst} -- for test
                        tell application "Finder"
      move srclist to dst
                        end tell
display dialog "Made by Connor Devlin.  If you find any bugs please contact me at [email protected].  If you liked this app share it with your friends.  ©McKeever Software."
              end repeat
    end repeat
Problem 1: Nothing seems to happen when I click run.
Problem 2: I'm not sure how to make it so that ONLY if you click Folders will it do the process to move folders.
Problem 3: I'm not sure how to make it so that ONLY if you click Files will it do the process to move files.
Problem 4: It does not seem to recognize the variable dst or srclist.
    I apprecaite all help

You seem to be stuck on using individual if..then statements instead of arranging your statements into logical groups (and the 'repeat forever' loops can get you into trouble as well).  In this case, if the choice is for files you aren't geting new source and destination choices (if you have already made the source and destination choices those will be used again, most likely resulting in a error).
The solution is to use the result of the first dialog to set whether the source items are files or folders, instead of that extra 'repeat forever' loop.
repeat -- forever (at least until canceled)
set theChoice to the button returned of (display dialog "Welcome to Cargo.  We make it easier to move multiple folders to a specific destination.  Would you like to move files or folders?" buttons {"Files", "Folders", "Cancel"})
         if theChoice is "Folders" then
set srclist to choose folder with prompt "Choose the folders you want to move" with multiple selections allowed
         else -- files
set srclist to choose file with prompt "Choose the files you want to move" with multiple selections allowed
         end if
         repeat -- until valid destination
set dst to choose folder with prompt "Choose the destination folder"
if dst is in srclist then
display dialog "The destination cannot be in the source list."
              else
                   exit repeat
              end if
         end repeat
         log "moving:"
         log srclist
         log "to:  " & dst
         tell application "Finder"
              move srclist to dst
         end tell
display dialog "Made by Connor Devlin.  If you find any bugs please contact me at [email protected].  If you liked this app share it with your friends.  ©McKeever Software." buttons {"Again", "OK"} cancel button "OK" default button 2
    end repeat

  • Moving Folders base on their names using powershell

Hi there, I've reading some examples here which are not exactly what I need so I've been trying to adapt them with no luck. Sorry not a programmer here, but I need this done and don't know where to go.
The point is that I have 42.000 folders in a folders.
All the folders' names are numbers from 4 to 7 digits (which represents clients ID's)
They should be separated based on one list that I can put in a csv file.
In words my script should do this:
working path= d:\a (this is where the 42K folders are)
    moving path= d:\a\movedfolders
list of folder to be moved= listtomove.csv
    command:
    read listtomove.csv
from beginning to end of listtomove.csv
compare first in list to all folders and
if find a match then move to movedfoders
if not read next value at listtomove.csv
    next
    exit:
voila... you just moved 22000 folders to the right place... lol (I don't need the count.)
Is this possible? if so: how?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Moving folders to the root of the mailbox

Is there a way to move a folder from being a subfolder back to the root of the mailbox. I have accidentally moved one of my root folders into another root folder making it a subfolder. I can change it on the exchange server through the web interface, but this takes them out of Alphabetical order.

In Mail? Yes. Just click and hold the folder, and drag it up to between two top-level folders you get a "lollipop" place indicator that has the circle just left of those top-level folder icons.
Then you can move it down the list again to the right position. You might need to collapse the folder trees temporarily to place it exactly where you wish.

  • Moving folders in external usb memory is disabled in mac OS-X yosmite

hi all i'm confused because i can not move or copy files to my usb memory in mac commad+c and command+v is not working and even drag + drop is not working for me on this usb drive. what is your suggestion ?
    second question :
is there a way that i can ask apple to add cut option to finder menu for folders ? because it's now process for moving file is really frustrating and i should copy file first and then past it and then go back to that file and delete it and then use comand+shif+delete to empty my trash...
    it waste my time.

    1.  Click on the drive, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the format.
If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired, or install software such as Paragon NTFS on the computer.
If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it; this may also happen for a flash drive which is about to fail.
If it's formatted as Mac OS Extended, click Authenticate and provide your administrator password, or change the permissions on that specific folder in its Get Info window.
    2. Press Option when pasting the items. They'll be moved instead of copied.
