Moving Folders in Organizer

Running Elements 8 in Windows 7. I am trying to move some of my folders in Organizer and have 2 problems:
1. How do I move a folder to a destination that is off-screen. If I drag it to the edge, the display does not scroll.
2. How do I move multiple adjacent files in one step. Clicking a range using the shift key does not work in Organizer to select multiple files.
Thanks in advance.
Ted

@gtpierce :   well selecting range works in organiser too. im anot why its not workign on your side , it should work, try to select randomly by pressign and holding CTRL key and check whether you are able to select random multiple file or ont

Many photos are in wrong folders in Organizer.  Tried repair routines and reconnecting but problem still exists.  All keyword tags work correctly.  I created a new (additional) catalog and that fixed the problem but I lost all my keyword tags.  I can still access either catalog.
All my photos are intact and undamaged in my computer.  Running Win7 - 64-bit on PC

  • Moving folders in Lightroom - lost all my pictures!

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me recover my files, although something tells me they are gone for good.
I keep my lightroom catalog and files in my external hard drive, but my HD is old and it was getting full, so I bought a new one to split my work and personal files.
I started by moving my work lightroom catalog, which went fine. Next step was to move my work folders from the old HD to the new HD. I thought the best way to do this was through lightroom, so as to avoid the 'missing file' problem. I have my folders organised by year, so I started with my 2012 folder, containing thousands of pictures from that year. I simply dragged the 2012 folder from the old HD to the new HD and waited (a very long time) for the move to finish.
When it finished, it came up with an error message saying some files couldn't be moved, and listed the files that couldn't be moved. It seemed like a lot of files, and they were grouped as 1-100, 101-200, 201-300, etc. So I clicked on the 2012 folder and all the sub-folders were there, named correctly, but they were empty. I then went to Finder on my Macbook to look for the files and the 2012 sub-folders were empty!
The 2012 folder and its sub-folders are present on both the old and the new HDs, but all my pictures are gone from both HDs.
I have no idea how this happened and what I can do to fix this. How can Lightroom delete my pictures when all I was doing was moving them to a new HD? And why did it move the folders and sub-folders correctly, but the pictures are gone? Any help will be much appreciated!
All I know is I'm NEVER moving folders inside Lightroom again!
    Thanks!

    Hello,
did you look in the trashcan? LR normally move images to the trashcan.
You can try some recovery program and try to rescue some images. I like PhotoRec but there may better (comercial) programs. After recovery you may try to relink the lightroom catalog to the files in your filesystem. I wrote an article in my blog how to do so in my blog for an other forum post. May be this may help you to loose not all of you images (in case you do not have a backup - but we all have ).

How create folders to organize content on adobe reader?

Go to the "Documents" view (From a document, tap "Documents" or "Recents" in the toolbar and then choose "Documents"). Then, tap "Edit" and you will see a folder with a "+" in it. You can add a folder here. Subsequently, you can tap "Edit" and use the move button (the folder with the arrow in it) to move a document to your new folder.

If the app is designed correctly, the no, you won't. However, you'd have to ask the people who wrote the software, Adobe.

  • Problem with missing files after moving folders around

    Hi,
I keep my music files manually organized. This is mostly because I have a LOT of music and I don't want to take up all the space on my MBP HD. So my music is split up between 2 external drives and the MBP drive.
I was moving around some folders since I wanted to reorganize my music folders, and iTunes can't seem to find the files anymore, and in order to fix it I see I need to find each and every file I moved (which is really not practical).
I tried editing the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file, but it seems to get rebuilt from some other place where this information is stored.
I also tried putting aliases in the old folders' locations pointing to the new ones (iTunes kept saying the files are missing)
Is there any way to simplify the process of moving folders?? This is really strange that such a feature is missing.
    Thanks
    Yaron

If you have the 'keep' option enabled and let iTunes do the work - take a sound track album as an example - that has various artists and you didn't tell iTunes that the album was a compilation album - then iTunes will put all the tunes into into the iTunes Music folder as Artist>Album>Song - if you have the compilation option enabled for the tunes on that same album - iTunes will nest it as iTunes Music>Compilation>Album>Song. This helps reduce the clutter in the iTunes Music folder with a thousand artists and only one tune for that artist.
With the 'keep' option selected iTunes will move tunes automatically within the iTunes Music folder. Since iTunes moved the files it can keep track of the links.
To create a second library launch iTunes with the 'option' key down and follow the dialog box instructions. I have a 'Master iTunes Library' on my internal HD and several ext HD's with other libraries which I give unique names i.e.: Really Big Music. I give the library data base file its' own unique name so I don't accidentally erase the wrong file. I also keep all the files that you would normally see for an iTunes library on the ext HD (iTunes library. .xml, art work etc.,). If you are into lots of movies and TV Shows you could create a library on and ext HD with only video content and name it accordingly. You would keep all the files for that library including the library 'management' files on the ext HD in the same nesting as you would find on your internal HD.
This strategy works for me. I tried to manage the files by myself at one point and just had to many problems so I decided to not fight City Hall and go with the flow and it works for me.

  • Any ideas regaurding syncing apps without losing folders and organization.

I recently had a hard drive failure. So I saved what little I could while it was going down in flames. As such I managed to grab all my music but not my backup folder in itunes for my iphone. Once I got up and running fresh. I authorized the account, downloaded available files, and transferred my purchases. Being weary of losing anything. I checked and synced every thing successfully but the apps. ( I synced apps once and then restored a previous back up. Which just gave me my unsynced profile back) I have three questions. I've searched exhaustively for answers to no avail.
    1. I noticed that when I check sync apps it throws my apps all over the place, so i uncheck it. Given I have transferred purchases first. Will I lose just my folders and organization if I sync ( I have 200 apps mostly in folders) or will I lose my App data as well?
    2. Does anyone know a way that does not require accessing the old itunes that would allow me to keep my folders and data?
(I read about the hex edit solution which requires the persistent id of the old itunes that unfortunately for me is no more)
    3. Assuming  syncing still keeps my app data but deletes the folders and layout. Could I be lazy, not sync apps and just keep transferring purchases when I sync everything else until that fatefull day when my iphone bites it and I need a restore? For that matter given that I was able to get every thing back with my backup when I did sync the apps that one time, do i even need to ever sync them?
Thanks for any help you'd have!

  • Glitch when moving folders on my desktop

When moving folders around on my desktop, there are some positions on the grid that act "glitchy". When trying to drop a folder in some places, it will revert the folder back to its original position on the desktop or will push it to another position on the desktop. It's as if there is a hidden file on the position I want to move the folder to when there isn't. What's going on?

    1. Control (right) click on your desktop and open desktop settings.
    2. Check to make sure that the Icon size is set somewhat lower than the Grid spacing.

  • I want to consolidate all my songs bought under 2-3 different user ids and passwords into one so I can move them into folders and organize my music.  How?   and I do not have any of the old id's or passwords.

I have an older iPod one of the first touch screens.  I bought music under more than one apple id and password.  I got a Macbook last October and I just upgraded my old 3G phone to the new iPhone 5 (16 GB).  All my music is on these devices but I cannot organize it. I tried to move songs into folders on my laptop but they would not go into the folder.  I clicked on them and moved them by holding down the mouse.  I think it is because they are from different accounts.  Or am I moving them incorrectly?  I have already created most of the folders like for Christmas music and workout.  I just want to be able to manage all this.
I am technologically challenged so if you explain something you cannot skip a step.  I am not even sure I picked the correct operating system below.

  • Moving folder in Organizer corrupts contents

I just got Photoshop Elements for my wife, and she spent quite a bit of time renaming & tagging hundreds of our photos.
We just discovered that several folders of the images she'd been working on were corrupted... none of the jpegs were able to be opened in any software package I tried.
Luckily, all these files are on a zfs fileshare on my storage server, and I had a somewhat recent snapshot we were able to clone & use to restore the bad files.
And then it happened again, while I was watching her work -- she got done re-tagging a bunch of pictures in a subfolder, then in the Elements organizer application moved the subfolder into another one for "To Be Printed" -- and poof, all corrupt again.
Like I said above, the files are on a mapped network drive, shared from an OpenSolaris box via CIFS to my wifes laptop running Vista. It wasn't an issue of the file extension... the actual JPEG headers were corrupt. I haven't gone into the file with a hex editor to find out [but if it would help Adobe fix it I can repeat the process & send them some of the bad files for analysis].  And I'm very certain it wasn't a bad disk... zfs is one of the safest most uncorruptible filesystems available, and the data is stored on the equivalent of a RAID configuration. But even it can't fix data if the data it's told to write has logical errors introduced at a higher layer.
More than likely it's a peculiar (just speculating here) combination of the way Adobe Elements moves folders and the way Vista maps CIFS drives. I'm still Googling/Binging the problem, but haven't turned up anything yet. If I wasn't able to reliably reproduce it, I'd just call it a random quirk and have forgotten about it by now... but this is a bit odd. And it may impact the way I manage storage, as now I'll have look at how I persist my snapshots due to the uncertainty of when the corruption would be introduced.
Has anyone run into this before? Any thoughts/solutions? I have to say I'm very disappointed -- I had done quite the marketing job to sell her on using this software versus manually working on everything... only to find out we run the risk of losing irreplaceable photos every time she works in it.

    Hi,
If your catalog is corrupted you can repair it through File>Catalog , select the corrupted catalog and choose Repair. Hope that will help to great extent.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Also in order to avoid running into the risk of losing your work permanently you can choose to maintain an online account on www.Photoshop.com and use the back-up Sync feature of Elements Organizer to maintain a backup of your files, albums and tags to be able to recover them from you online account if you were to lose these permanently from your Desktop. You can sign in to the account from the Organizer and enable Backup/Sync through Edit>Preferences>Backup Sync Preferences.
    Thanks.

  • How to delete multiple folders in organizer 12

I have several duplicates of photos that I somehow created. I need to delete lots of duplicates. I see how to do it one folder at a time. However I have hundereds ! There must be a way to select more than one folder at a time for deletion. Anyone know how or if it can (or cannot) be done ?

As you have probably seen, deleting a whole folder or many files in one batch is a long process. So, it makes sense to select the max amount of files to be deleted and run the deletion when you are not busy with the Organizer. It's reasonably quick to select all the files of a given folder and assign a 'to be deleted' keyword, so if you can assign that keyword to the contents of many folders, you'll be able to select by the keyword and let the deletion be processed while you are away.
Note that deleting from catalog only or also from the drive are about as long.
Another way if you want to physically delete from drive, would be to do it outside of the organizer.
    - Be sure you don't have missing files (not connected ones)
    - delete from the drive
    - Run the 'reconnect process' and use the menu to select all and delete all from catalog.
Warning : with big catalogs (10 000 items or more), deleting many items will take a very long time and possibly abort without deleting anything.
    See:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/elements_organizer_unable_to_delete_ a_big_number_of_files
Both ways described above take the same time and have the above limitation.
As usual, when deleting many items, doing a full backup before is highly recommended .

  • Photo folders in Organizer view.

I have Photoshop Elements 12. In organizer view, the file tree in left pane does not match the photo files I have set up in my MS Windows Pictures folder. It just has files by date and not all of them. Can I get it to reflect the files I have made? Thanks so much.

    Yes,
What you are seeing by default is shown as 'My folders' view. It's a flat alphabetical list of the last level subfolders in which you have media files.
Click on the little yellow icon just right of the 'My folders' title bar, and you switch to the 'Folders' view which reflects what you see in your explorer. The difference is that by default, you see only subfolders having image files; if you want to display subfolders without image files, right click on the master folder and choose to show empty folders; that choice is not sticky.

  • Problem moving folders with Lightroom 4.4 on Mac OS 10.7.5

I am trying to move a folder of recently edited files from my desktop to an external drive where I keep all my processed files using Lightroom but I keep getting a message that the folder can not be moved.
If I try to create a new folder on the external drive using Lightroom I get a message saying the folder could not be created.
This has just happened for the first time. I have never had issues with this in the past and have successfully moved many folders over the years.
I tried rebooting Lightroom to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

Make sure you have write permissions on the destination disk. You may need to repair permissions.

  • How do I watch Network Shared Folders in Organizer?

I must be able to watch shared folders on a network share in organizer.
Is there any way to be able to do this????
    I'm using Photoshop/Premiere Elements 12.
Is this functionality present, or any easier, etc. if I upgrade to 13?
For Example: One problem that comes up is, if you're able to bring up the network places, and choose the share you want, getting the error "The watch folder service returned an error: The user name or password is incorrect."
I've investigated this before, spent some time, couldn't get this to work after some internet searching. I'm now re-visiting this trying to get it to work.
    Thanks!

Here is the resource I find on the subject:
Photoshop Elements 6/7/8 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
[Note, how this is a problem back with PE 6.. I had PE 6... quit using it because of this same EXACT problem. I'd think that Adobe would fix this problem by 6 (or 7) versions later?!]
I tried changing the logon for the service the last time I worked on this and for some reason it didn't work. For whatever reason, I didn't get any errors this time.
I think my problem is, "watching" a folder isn't doing what I would have expected it to do. I'm expecting to choose a watched folder and then it will automatically populate my entire library (and then automatically update that as I add/delete/change files/folders). But I choose the watched folder, click the 'auto-something' (can't remember what it says) option, and then... nothing...
