Moving frames

Feeling a little Tarantino, I was wondering if it is possible to do the following in Adobe Premiere Elements 10.  If I shrink the size of the frame from a specific clip, to about half the size of the window, is there a way to make this smaller frame move from left to right.  Then on a second video track I wanted to so the same but make  it move in the opposite direction, from right to left, passing underneath the frame moving the other way.
Thanks for your time!

Today I tried to turn my interpretation of what you described into a split screen video.. The following is the result that I just uploaded to YouTube
http://youtu.be/JxNkNS_9z1Q
The approach is to define a way to keep the two halves in sync as the Bottom one moves from right to left and the Top one moves from left to right.
It took a lot of consideration getting two videos in the screen so that neither was squashed. It took some cropping and viewing area selection to get something reasonable for me.
Once you have the two halves in place on screen and have Properties Palette/Motion Panel Expanded/Position property opened so that you see the Position values  xxxx.x (for right/left or left/right) and to its right xxxx.x (for up down or down up), our focus is going to be on the value to the left, the right/left or left right one.
1. Move the Top half to the right out of the way.
2. Working on the Bottom half, note that the Position values, in this example 360.0, 418.7. That 418.7 is constant for us since you will be working right/left and left right, not up down down up. With the mouse cursor, select and drag the Bottom half to the right to the point where it just disappears off screen. Note the new Position value set. Here it was 1080.0, 418.7. If the 418.7 moved while you were determining the 1080.0 value, just type it back in. Now with the mouse cursor, select and drag the Bottom half to the left to the point where it just disappears off screen. Note the new Position value set. Here it was -360.0, 418.7.
Again, if the 418.7 moved while you were determining the -360.0 value, just type it back in.
3. At this time, move the Timeline Indicator to the start of the Timeline. We want the video to move from right to left so.....
(a) In Motion Panel expanded/Position, type in the set 1080.0, 418.7.
(b) Click on the Toggle Animation icon to initiate the keyframing process.
(c) Move the Timeline Indicator to the end of the Bottom half clip. Type in the Position set -360.0, 418.7.
4. Render the Bottom half. It is done.
5. Move the Top half back in place directly above the Bottom half. Select the Top half and have its Motion Panel expanded open to view the Position values. Here they were 360, 171.9. We want the video to move from left to right so.....
(a) Move the Timeline Indicator to the start of the Top half and, for the Motion Panel expanded/Position set, type in -360.0, 171.9
(b) Click on the Toggle Animation icon to initiate the keyframing process.
(c) Move the Timeline Indicator to the end of the Top half clip. Type in the Position set 1080.0, 171.9.
6. Render. It is done.
Though specific numbers may vary, do you see the scheme in this?
a. each half will have it characteristic up down down up Position value which will stay constant for its half. In this case Top half has 418.7 and Bottom half has 171.9.
b. the Bottom half right left position value is going to be the same as that of the top but just reversed because of the different direction that the videos are going in.
Please check out the above to make sure I have my rights lefts and everything else going in the right direction.
Please let us know the results. Success or back to the drawing board. For the viewer I am not sure of the effectiveness of such an effect, but you may have the key.
ATR
Great precision in the move, but only if that is the effect sought. If not, back to the drawing board.
The YouTube demo had Time Stretch 300% applied to each half to speed up the movement.

  • REP-1219 for moved frame

    I'm using Report Builder 6.0.8.25.0 to customize a seeded Oracle report which is being run as a concurrent program in Oracle. I've added a field and moved down a frame and it's enclosed fields to make more room. Now I'm getting the dreaded REP-1219 for the frame I moved:
    REP-1219: 'M_PERIOD_TOTALS1' has no size -- length or width is zero.
    I've gone through the usual efforts to get the error to go away - make sure the frame is fully enclosed by its parent. Delete and recreate. Cut and paste again. But I'm still getting the error.
    I've seen the notes and they suggest to make sure the height and width are not zero - frames don't have these properties in the property palette. And this is not a small frame so there's no way the size is getting rounded down to zero. I also see suggestion to convert the report to or from character to or from bitmapped. I'm thinking this is not the solution since all I did was move the frame.
    Does anyone have a good way to deal with this error? It seems to pop up fairly often and it usually require a good deal of time to fix it.

    Tracey,
    Sorry this is not working for you.
    As I said in my first post, I could not remember if reports 6 can save as a JSP. I went back to an old machine with 6 installed and there is no mention of JSP, the 6 equivalent is a REX file.
    By changing the wd and ht of the problem object to > 0 the error will go away and you can resize it properly in the reports builder.
    Open your broken report (i.e c:\sales.rdf)
    File..Admin..Convert
    Source type = rdf
    Source = c:\sales.rdf
    Dest type = rex
    Dest = c:\sales.rex
    Click OK
    Now open sales.rex and follow my previous post to change the values (I THINK it would be the WD and HT parms of the frame that is causing you trouble.
    After your changes are made
    Save the sales.rex file
    open reports builder
    File..Admin..Convert
    Source type = rex
    Source = c:\sales.rex
    Dest type = rdf
    Dest = c:\sales_2.rdf
    Click OK
    Open c:\sales_2.rdf in reports builder

  • Selection tool not moving frames

    Hi,
    I'm new to InDesign so my problem might be an easy fix. I'm making a large photobook which is now 112 pages long. Everything has been working fine until now. Today when I open the program the selection tool seems to do everything but move a frame. I'm wondering if I have inadvertently disabled this function or whether it is something more serious. If so can I re-install the software to repair the existing version or do I need to uninstall first?

    Are you able to select the frame you want to move? You may have inadvertently locked the layer. Also, be sure you are using the regular selction tool (Black arrow) not the Direct Select tool (White Arrow).
    If you are using the correct tool, and you are able to select, but not move the object (and it is not locked), check to see if the problem exists in a new file as well. If it happens in new files, replace your preferences: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990 If it is isolated to the siingle file, export to .inx: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526991

  • Moving frames.....Simple problem.....

    Hello all,
    I am new to flash and am having a problem which I thought
    should be an easy resolution but it is killing me......
    I have a movieclip on my stage in frame 10. In the movie clib
    there is a button that when pressed opens another movie clip which
    hols 2 buttons. It is essentially a menu item that when clicked
    opens a subsequent menu with 2 more items. When one of the
    subsenquent menu items is clicked, I want to jump to frame 20,
    however nothing is happening.
    On the "on(release)" of the subsequent button I have the
    "gotoandstop("scene 1", 20 " coded....... can anyone shed some
    light why its not jumping there for me.
    Thanks in advance
    SH

    Hello, I assume you have used a line of code similar to this
    for your button
    on (release) {
    gotoAndPlay(20);
    this will go to and play frame 20 of the movie clip that your
    button is sitting in. What you want the button to do is to
    play frame 20 of the main timeline. _root is the keyword
    which always refers to the main timeline. So by adjusting your
    buttons code you will alow it to communicate with the main
    timeline.
    on (release) {
    _root.gotoAndPlay(20);

  • Help on moving frames with new Date()

    I'm a AS beginer and I need help. I trying to move frames accordind to the hour, for example: at 7 am the at frame 1 and at 8 am at frame 10. I have a code that moves the frames every one hour but I need also to move the by the half hour. For instance: at 7 am frame 1, at 7:30 am frame 5, and at 8 am frame 10. This is the code I have so far that moves ever hour:
    // new Date object
    myDate = new Date();
    myHour = myDate.getHours();
    _root.onLoad = function() {
    switch (myHour) {
    //this start at 7 am and end at 6 am
    case 7 :
      trace("It's 7:00 AM");
      switcher_mc.gotoAndStop(1);
      break;
    case 8 :
      trace("It's 8:00 AM");
      switcher_mc.gotoAndStop(3);
      break;
    case 9 :

      trace("It's 10:00 AM");
      switcher_mc.gotoAndStop(7);
      break;
    and so on till 6 am. As you see I need some half hours for some frames.
    I will appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance
    Pao Pao

    I'm sorry I don't get what you mean. As you see the frame noves when it get to the "case #" like "case 7" it goes to play when is seven am and case 19 goes to play when is 7 pm. what I want is how to get to 7.5 to go and play at 7:30.

  • Moving frames upstream or downstream

    I'm typesetting a large book with tables. I want to put many of the tables in separate frames to avoid page breaks. I would prefer to not set them all in separate frames in the interest of time. The problem is that the captions are numbered paragraphs. I have learned that paragraph numbering is done by frame and not by order on the page. As a programmer I understand why, but it's causing major problems for me. If I only need to set the first table in a frame, it is counted last. The only solution I've found is to set every single table in a separate frame and to create them in order. In chapters with lots of tables, this is a major headache. Is there not a way to move a frame upstream or downstream (meaning forcing a frame to be counted before or after another)? Please say there is!
    Thanks for your help!
    Aaron

    You can put your tables inside your main text frames, and still avoid breaking them. Chose the table paragraph, and use Keep Lines Together.

  • AHH!  FLOATING AUDIO METER FAILS TO REGISTER EACH FRAME'S LEVEL!

    I have a problem regarding the floating audio meter - ie, the small 2 track meter that usually sits next to the tools strip in the standard window setup. For some reason, when I scroll along clips in my timeline (using the left/right arrow keys) it doesnt show the levels of each individual frame, nor does it produce the sound that should be heard from that specific frame. This is a huge problem for me, as I am trying hard to sync up clips to music, and I am now stuck with just guessing where I should cut it based on intuition. Also, along with the floating audio meter, the actual audio mixer doesn't register the levels either when trying to move frame by frame. I must make it clear that when in preview(play) mode, the audio does register and can be seen moving along with the sounds produced, but when i press space(stop) it(the level of audio) simply stays put, and does NOT change from the time that I last stopped playing the sequence.
    If I am being to confusing, I am trying to be able to (while moving frame by frame with the arrow keys) see and literally hear each individual frame in efforts to make synchronizing a **** of a lot easier and more practical.
    This has never been a problem before, and has just recently burdened me. I have tried restarting the settings/preferences, starting new projects, looking in the manual, etc. No dice. Can someone please help me restore FCP's ability to hear each frames audible material, as well as witness each specific decibel level of the individual frames as I arrow across?

    Well...
    if you make sure scrubbing is on, that would help.
    You can also turn on the waveforms in the timeline tracks.
    That should help too.

  • How copy/paste layers with frame animations?

    I have a movie clip (mc1) with 6 layers (under 1 mask) and
    some tweens. (It's just a continuous transition of pictures.)
    I have another movie clip (mc2) that is the same layout
    (different layers.)
    I want to combine the 2 into 1 movie clip. I tried to select
    all layers and copy from 1 and paste to the other, but it doesn't
    paste correctly.
    How can I do this? It seems like it would be easy.
    Thanks

    > Any way to "paste frames in place"? I had to move
    everything by hand.
    There is no way. You have to remember that each of these
    instances will have different
    center point so option like this, especially while moving
    frames not the individual
    content itself, wouldn't be of much use, or not very
    accurate. Unless of course, both
    clips from beginning were made in the exact position so the
    center point will be the same
    but then, there would be no need for Paste In Place because
    with same center point, it will
    position your content precisely . Edit Multiple frames is you
    best bet.

  • Frame extended state and window bounds.

    I'm trying to save the bounds of a window when my program exits, so that I can initialize the next session to the same window bounds. It seems well known that calling getBounds() on a maximized window will basically give you your screen dimensions. So this means that if the user exits the program when the window is maximized, the next time they start it up, the window will be set to fill their screen as though it were maximized, but in the restored state. Not good. It also seems well known that there is no clean way to get the restored bounds on a maxmized window. Also not good. I found this forum on the subject:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&threadID=603605
    Someone suggested restoring the window manually before checking the bounds, but I don't want to do this because the action would be visible to the user, and takes time. Instead I opted for the component listener approach. Here's where my problem comes in:
    It seems that move and resize events happen at inconsistent times. In my component listener, I poll window.getExtendedState() and getBounds() in componentMoved() and componentResized(). When I maximize the window, I get MOVE event that shows getExtendedState() to be NORMAL, but getBounds() to be maximized. When I restore the window, I get a RESIZE event that shows getBounds() to be restored.
    Maybe I'm just confused here, but this doesn't make any sense. Those two values should be consistent-- and I should get the event after everything is DONE, including the extended state flag being properly set. It seems to me that this is bug-like behavior. Am I wrong?
    Furthermore, my problem remains, because if the user exits in the maximized state, the last event will have been a reporting of the maximized window bounds-- so my attempts to remember what the window was before it was maximized will have failed. It really steams me that the API seems to be conspiring to prevent me from getting this simple piece of information.
    So has there been any progress on the front of a clean solution to getting the restored bounds without restoring the window? Surely that information exists somewhere in the JVM. I shouldn't have to do backflips to get it. (Perhaps I should post a feature request).
    How should I get around this?
    P.S.
    Here's a test case:
    import java.awt.event.ComponentEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ComponentListener;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    * @author Tim Babb
    public class Main {
        static JFrame frame;
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            frame = new JFrame("Test Case");
            frame.addComponentListener(new ComponentListener(){
                public void componentHidden(ComponentEvent evt){
                    //do nothing
                public void componentMoved(ComponentEvent evt){
                    if (frame.getExtendedState() == frame.NORMAL){
                        System.out.println("Moved: " + frame.getBounds());
                public void componentResized(ComponentEvent evt){
                    if (frame.getExtendedState() == frame.NORMAL){
                        System.out.println("Resized: " + frame.getBounds());
                public void componentShown(ComponentEvent evt){
                    //do nothing
            frame.setVisible(true);
    }

    I am seeing the same thing, it seems that in Windows maximize delivers two events a move and then a resize. The change state event comes in the middle, I am sure there is some good reason.
    I have had a go at writing a NormalBoundsListener that compensates for this. Would be interested to find out if this was Windows specific.
    Hope this helps, if you have a better solution please let me know.
    private class NormalBoundsListener implements ComponentListener {
    private final Rectangle previousNormalBounds = new Rectangle();
    private int previousExtendedState = 0;
    public void componentHidden(ComponentEvent e) {
    // do nothing
    public void componentMoved(ComponentEvent e) {
    storeNormalBounds();
    public void componentResized(ComponentEvent e) {
    storeNormalBounds();
    public void componentShown(ComponentEvent e) {
    storeNormalBounds();
    private void storeNormalBounds() {
    int extendedState = getExtendedState();
    if(extendedState == Frame.NORMAL) {
    previousExtendedState = extendedState;
    previousNormalBounds.setBounds(normalBounds);
    getBounds(normalBounds);
    } else if(extendedState == Frame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH && previousExtendedState == Frame.NORMAL) {
    previousExtendedState = extendedState;
    normalBounds.setBounds(previousNormalBounds);
    }

  • Ghosting Problem on Interlaced Frames?

    I've tried exporting to M2V through both Compressor 2 and using DVD Studio Pro's own embedded M2V encoding. The output is the same.
    The ghosting does not appear in Final Cut Pro (the interlacing is visible on computer monitor, you can see the lines and such) - but after being encoded to M2V - and output to DVD, this is the image you get if you pause the frame on TV in certain spots. It's not really visible when in motion, only paused on moving frames.
    http://img279.imageshack.us/img279/5180/ghosting13pw.jpg
    http://img290.imageshack.us/img290/9033/ghosting29dh.jpg
    The material is being pulled from a Digibeta (and some from a Beta SP). Both seem to come up with this problem. We're pulling it SDI through a KonaLH capture card at 10-bit, uncompressed. I've tried outputting it with various different bit-rate settings - and have tried many of the presets - the result is the same --- changing the field order doesn't seem to help either.

    That sure makes it sound like pulldown error (like
    showing a field ahead when it shouldn't)... but if
    you don't see this externally on a video monitor
    before you encode to MPEG, it's probably something
    else? You captured this at 29.97 right? i.e. didn't
    remove any pulldown during or after capture? and
    you're set to upper or lower field?
    Also got the latest drivers for the AJA card? might
    just reinstall them too.
    Jerry
    The images above are how things look on the Television.
    On the monitor, the interlacing is all I can see. Here are some screenshots of the M2V (the same encoded file that displays the ghosting on an NTSC TV) --- this was taken by playing the file in QuickTime and using grab. I took 3 shots for a sequence of 3 consecutive frames of movement:
    http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/2125/seq11ln.jpg
    http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/1993/seq27od.jpg
    http://img420.imageshack.us/img420/5881/seq39yr.jpg
    We captured the video at 525i - 10-bit uncompressed (probably unnecessary) - 29.97 frame. It pulled the video in at 720x486 (to meet with the scanlines on the Digibeta) - and then when encoding to M2V, we cropped off 6 lines to make it 720x480 --- and set field order to lower (bottom).
    I'll try checking for new drivers for our capture card.

  • FCE 3.5 Audio Meter Link to Frame Forward

    I was watching a tutorial on FCE 4.0 and noticed that the audio meter changed as the arrow keys were used in viewer to move one frame forward or backward. Does this feature exist in 3.5? I'm unable to activate it. The audio meter works when I play a clip but not when moving frame by frame.

    Turn on Audio Scrubbing in the View menu.

  • Frame by Frame Audio - Interesting

    One of my biggest problems with Final Cut Pro is what I call the "Tease", a feature that I start out with that disappears. Here's one that's getting my goat right now...
    I used to be able to hear the audio when I moved frame by frame with the arrow keys over a certain clip. Each time I move a frame you hear a little JUT, which helps me get specific in my editing, otherwise I have to hit stop at the exact thirtieth of a second.
    Does anyone know how to turn this feature back on that I once had that disappeared?

    Keep in mind that there are MANY very simple keyboard shortcuts. As a result, it's very easy to accidentally toggle something on or off by hitting "option" when you meant to hit "command" or the like.

  • Traces when moving swing windows

    Hello,
    when I move a swing frame to another place on the sceen, thereby crossing over another frame, the moving frame leaves traces on the lower one in the form of white cascading stripes. I first thought this is due to my old graphic board. But now I have a new computer with Win7 and it's still the same. Moreover I observed that the traces happen only on swing windows and never on other applications' windows.
    Is this a peculiarity of my site or a common phenomenon?

                    green.pack();
                    green.setLocationRelativeTo(red);
                    green.setVisible(true);
    }If that doesn't show the stripes moving one frame over the other, I suggested to manually suspend the EDT while debugging to see if that will cause the same stripes. If it produces much more artifacts, then the stripes are probably not caused by a blocked EDT.

  • Troubles with stabilization in FCP X.

    Hi, everybody. Recently, I bought FCP X, and I saw some YouTube tutorials about image stabilization. The results appeared amazing, but when I stabilized some videos (I tried this with and without analyzing stability during import) the image really result much more stable, but the frames begin to move as a way to mantain the image stable (initially, the original video had a moved image but a fixed frame; after stabilization, the image becomes stable, but the frame moves constantly). Between the moving frame and the edges of the screen, all is black, and when the camera turns up/down or left/right, the frame keeps following the prior objects, like if yo turn your head but keep your eyes fixed looking the previous images. In those moments, half of the screen appears black and in the other half you can see the video because the frame "moved" following the previous objects. Then, the frame returns to a "normal" position, but again moving constantly while the original images need to be stabilized. In the tutorials, the stabilized video showed no frames. Please tell me what's wrong with this or if I have to make other settings in order to avoid this moving black frame. I hope you understand me, because I'm a spanish speaker.

    @hafken
    I didn`t analyze during import.
    If i try the way you wrote -> i delete the files in the folder"stabilization":
    1) do i have to check this little blue checkpoints (ON/OFF) on all clips i want to stabilize again? or are they still there and it works for itself in the backgroundrendering task?
    2) do i have to right click on the clip in the timeline and choose "Analyze and stabilize" ?
    or do i have to set the blue checkpoint in the inspector window for each clip i want to stabilize again ?
