Moving from Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online: AD issue

Dear All,
Our company will moving from Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online and we have a on-premise WinSer 2008R2 for AD.
Currently, user have to login to our domain and use the same ID and PW to access their outlook.
1.If we move to Exchange online, do we have to do anything with our on-premise AD server?
2.If user prefer using only one ID and PW for PC to access domain and Exchange online, what should we do?
3.Is there any point or do we still need current on-premise AD server after we moved to Exchange Online?
Thank you so much for your attention and help!
Best regards,
Shiloh

Hi,
There are a lot of corrupted items. You can try raising the baditemlimit to 999 to workaround this issue
Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Set-PublicFolderMigrationRequest -baditemlimit 100
To resumed the PublicFolderMigrationRequest
Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Resume-PublicFolderMigrationRequest
Thanks,

  • Copy UM settings and prompts from Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online

When I migrated UM from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, there is a script called "MigrateUMCustomPrompts.ps1"
that would copy over all the customized greeting files.
We are now migrating from Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online and will be using Exchange Online UM.  Is there a similar script to copy over the files just like
    the on-prem?

Sorry, I don't share code examples in most cases because they're generally one-off customer-specific scripts and I'm not in a position to answer lots of follow-up questions about them.

  • OST corrupt when moving Mailbox from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2010

    Anyone come across this?
Moving a mailbox on Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 - the outlook client wont connect, if you remove the OST and allow outlook to recreate it comes good again.
outlook client knows the mailbox has moved as it connects to the new server
    Not happening to every mailbox
    thak=nks

    Hi,
After you move mailbox from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, Outlook should still work.
Is there any error message when these affected users try to connect? If there is, please post here for further analysis.
I saw someone failed to connect to the new Exchange server after they moved mailbox, then they restarted the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service and restarted Outlook, it worked.
If you haven't tried this, you can restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service to check the result.

  • Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 mail flow?

We are planning to migrate Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.
I understand that we need to upgrade the CAS to 2013 for Internet Facing.
What about mail flow. Currently, Internet mail flows to Exchange 2010 (single site). Can I keep it for sometime after introducing 2013 and do the cutover of HUB once all the mailboxes are moved to 2013? Or I have to get the mail flow to 2013 first.
Also, how does HUB 2010 transfer mail or receive mail from 2013? Does it get from the CAS proxy in 2013 or from HUB?
    Thanks!!!

Yes, you can.  But my preference is to move the mail routing early in the migration, usually even before moving mailboxes, because I believe it reduces the risk of a service interruption.
I believe it goes through the front-end transport on the CAS, since that is the TCP port 25 service.

  • Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 Migration and Architect a resilient and high availability exchange setup

    Hi,
I currently have a single Exchange 2010 Server that has all the roles supporting about 500 users. I plan to upgrade to 2013 and move to a four server HA Exchange setup (a CAS array with 2 Server as CAS servers  and one DAG with 2 mailbox Servers). My
goal is to plan out the transition in steps with no downtime. Email is most critical with my company.
Exchange 2010 is running SP3 on a Windows Server 2010 and a Separate Server as archive. In the new setup, rather than having a separate server for archiving, I am just going to put that on a separate partition.
Here is what I have planned so far.
    1. Build out four Servers. 2 CAS and 2 Mailbox Servers. Mailbox Servers have 4 partitions each. One for OS. Second for DB. Third for Logs and Fourth for Archives.
    2. Prepare AD for exchange 2013.
    3. Install Exchange roles. CAS on two servers and mailbox on 2 servers. Add a DAG. Someone had suggested to me to use an odd number so 3 or 5. Is that a requirement?
    4. I am using a third party load balancer for CAS array instead of NLB so I will be setting up that.
    5. Do post install to ready up the new CAS. While doing this, can i use the same parameters as assigned on exchange 2010 like can i use the webmail URL for outlook anywhere, OAB etc.
    6. Once this is done. I plan to move a few mailboxes as test to the new mailbox servers or DAG.
    7. Testing outlook setups on new servers. inbound and outbound email tests.
once this is done, I can migrate over and point all my MX records to the new servers.
Please let me know your thoughts and what am I missing. I like to solidify a flowchart of all steps that I need to do before I start the migration.
thank you for your help in advance

    Hi,
okay, you can use 4 virtual servers. But there is no need to deploy dedicated server roles (CAS + MBX). It is better to deploy multi-role Exchange servers, also virtual! You could install 2 multi-role servers and if the company growths, install another multi-role,
and so on. It's much more simpler, better and less expensive.
CAS-Array is only an Active Directory object, nothing more. The load balancer controls the sessions on which CAS the user will terminate. You can read more at
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/03/05/load-balancing-in-exchange-2013.aspx Also there is no session affinity required.
First, build the complete Exchange 2013 architecture. High availability for your data is a DAG and for your CAS you use a load balancer.

  • Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 Public Folder Problem

    Dear Experts,
I am in a face of migrating Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. Below are my infrastructure details,
    1) Parent Domain in Site A (abc.com)
    2) One Child domain in Site A named child1.abc.com and Exchange 2007 is running in Site A child domain
    3) One Child domain in Site B named me.abc.com and currently Exchange 2010 is running in Site B.
I have installed Exchange 2013 in Site B in coexistence scenario now Exchange 2013 users in Site B trying to attempt connection with a public folder store in the Site A Exchange 2007 servers instead of Site B Exchange 2010 servers.
Anyone help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    ZB

so you want users to access the PF in site B.
Check the setting of Databases in Exchange 2013 and find out what is default Public Folder setup for those Database. You will basically need to change the default Public Folder in Exchange 2013 from Site A PF to Site B,, the way you have explained the scenario.
run this for Exchanger 2013 DA
    Get-mailboxDatabase -Identity Exchange2013DBNAME | fl
    Get-MailboxDatabase -Identity e15-db1 | fl *PublicFolder*

  • Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online migration Error

    Hello,
I am in the middle of an Exchange 2010 to Office 365 cutover migration and i keep getting errors when trying to create a migration endpoint on Office 365 hence the migration can't progress.
I have sucessfully completed step one which is to verify the on premises domain and the Office 365 domain but it seems i am stucked on connecting with Outlook Anywhere using each available method on Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer.
The first error message that i am getting when connecting through Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer is that the
"The certificate chain could not be built. You may be missing required intermediate certificate". On a side note, this works on internal LAN and Outlook clients are able to connect using autodiscover.
The second error message i get, is when trying to connect using "Test-MigrationServerAvailability -ExchangeOutlookAnywhere -Autodiscover -EmailAddress <email address for on-premises administrator> -Credentials $credentials"
on a Exchange Online Powershell session i am getting:
"The migration service failed to detect the migration endpoint using the Autodiscover service."
I just can't understand why the Autodiscover tests won't pass. I am aware that Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer would show error because it misses the root certificate but what should i do in order to have it running properly?
Please note that i am using an internal CA-Server which is the Exchange Server it self so i have self signed certificates.
I wonder, am i missing the big picture here?
For the migration endpoint/batch to work, is it mandatory to have a valid certificate or to be able to use autodiscover?
    Thanks.

You need valid publicly trusted certificate to create the migration endpoint. You can get one for free from sites like startssl or comodo.

  • Migrate UM from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013

I have been running Exchange UM since Exchange 2007, using the ps1 script to move all my Auto Attendants into the 2010 environment. I'm at a loss on how to efficiently do this in moving from Ex2010 to Ex2013, though. I've read
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn169226 and it's Step 3 that's got me bewildered. I have 44 Auto Attendants, most of which with up to five custom greetings, numerous key mappings,
etc. That Step 3 indicates having to move each custom greeting individually.
I'm just getting into PowerShell and struggling as-is. Compounding that floundering with the lack of clear documentation on moving custom greetings en mass has me frustrated. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi David,
Before we migrate all the users to
2013, we would recommend you to test voice mail on
    2013 server.
Here are the steps we need to follow
to test VM on 2013 server:
    1. Create a certificate for both Unified Messaging service and the Call Router services. Here is an article on how
    to create certificates , http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn205141(v=exchg.150).aspx
    2. Create new dial plan in Exchange
2013. Here is an article on how to create a dial plan, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123819(v=exchg.150).aspx
    3. Run scripts on both Exchange and Lync servers.
    4. Create test user and enable the user for both Lync and Exchange.
    5. Enable newly created user for UM and test voicemail for that user.
Additionally here is a link which has checklist to upgrade
    from Exchange 2010UM
    to 2013UM http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn169228(v=exchg.150).aspx

  • Can't manage distribution group from Outlook with Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2013 mailbox

    Hi All,
In my environment we are using exchange 2010 that contains the distribution groups which has been migrated from exchange 2003 environment .On that one of the distribution group is having an problem for the user who had an access to manage DL'S via outlook
but he can't able to manage it.When we add the new user to manage same DL and the new user tries to manage the DL via outlook it happens without any issues.
issue occurs only for the user who has already have the manage access permission on the DL where the group was on exchange 2003 before migrated to exchange 2010.
    Reffered blog : http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2586832?wa=wsignin1.0
We have done all the settings defined on the above mentioned link but still we are facing the issue.
In addition to that , we have forcefully upgraded the DL too by using the below mentioned command.
set-distributiongroup -identity "name of the problematic DL" -forceupgrade
Please all of you provide your valuable suggestions to overcome this issue .
    Error message :
    Regards
    S.Nithyanandham
    Thanks S.Nithyanandham

    Hi S.Nithyanandham,
From your description, I would like to verify if the problematic manager user is a member of security group. If yes, this issue will occur. In Exchange 2010, distribution groups can't be managed by groups, only individual users can manage groups. But in
Exchange 2003, it is possible to use groups to manage a distribution group.
For more information, here is a blog for your reference.

  • Exchange Management Tools? Hybrid Exchange 2010 SP3 - Exchange 2013 (Office 365 - Exchange Online)

When running in Hybrid mode... is there any advantage to installing the Exchange 2013 server management tools on my machine versus the Exchange 2010 management tools?
    Any advantages/disadvantages?
I still do have some on premises mailboxes that need to be migrated to the cloud (Exchange Online).
    Thoughts? Suggestions? Experiences?

    Hi Viva,
We don't have Exchange Management Console in Exchagne 2013 in all the web interface we used in Exchange server 2013. In Exchange 2010 we are having Exchange management console. Hence we can able to access exchange 2010 and 2013 both on the same server.

  • Migrating user from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 succeeds but OWA redirects to 2010

    Hello everyone,
I am migrating users from exchange 2010 to 2013, Users migration works perfectly and completes without any issue but after the user migration finishes I try to login to OWA but user goes to OWA exchange 2010 not 2013 as if the mailbox has not been migrated.
I have checked the HomeMDB attribute and I can see the new database on 2013 is located there. how to solve this? I have retransfered the user back to 2010 and 2013 but it didn't work.
    I would appreciate your help.
    Thanks
    Mohammed JH

    Hi Amit
After 30 mins approximately we checked the inboxes that have been migrted (2) and we found out they are working.
İ wonder why there is this delay ? İ have already done migration before but it never took this much time. İ would appreciate your reply.

  • Exchange 2010 - Decommissioning Exchange 2007 Coexistence and Removal of Public Folders

We are about to decommission exchange 2007, currently in coexistence with Exchange 2010.
We do not want to use ANY public folders in exchange 2010 going forward. Will do this after decom of 2007:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876883(v=exchg.141).aspx
I see this in the outlook connection status in outlook:
I have changed all Exchange 2010 mailbox databases to use a temporary 2010 public folders db named "public1" so that it is not communicating with the 2007 mailbox virtual server. However, the exact same connection status appears after I changed
the 2010 mailbox DBs to use a 2010 public folder db instead of the old 2007.
Question is, is it safe to decom the 2007 environment now? Is it normal to still have a connection to 2007  in "connection status" in outlook when the users mailbox is on a 2010 mailbox db? Is this connection related to public folders or something
else that needs modified before decom?
    Thanks,
    Josh

So, that wasn't the answer. I switched the Public folder DB on each mailbox database to a exchange 2010 server, PF DB, but hadn't actually moved any data from 2007 to 2010.
I didnt realize this is needed when we don't use public folders except for free-busy, default, etc.
What is the correct way to move the default public folders to a 2010 public folder?
I'm using the below URL as a template to migrate this info to a 2010 PF db.
    https://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/upgrade-from-exchange-2007-to-exchange-2010---part-ii/
"The user Public Folders then need to be replicated to the Exchange 2010 Public Folder database as well. It is possible to manually configure
all Public Folders with a new replication partner, but it’s better to use PowerShell scripts that Microsoft delivers with Exchange Server 2010. Open the Exchange Management Shell and navigate to the Scripts directory
by entering the CD $ExScripts command,
    and execute the following script:
    AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1 -Server 2007MBX -TopPublicFolder "\"
    -ServerToAdd 2010MBX"
My question is, do I have to do this "3rd step" since I don't think i have any custom "user public folders". Is this the user's free busy that I have to migrate, or is this author referring to custom PF db info?
Do I have to have public folders for free-busy and default exchange services at all in 2010?
