Moving from mask to image.

I've just moved from CS3 to CS6. Previously, when working on a layer mask I could make the image active by Command – ~ . This doesn't work now - is there another keyboard shortcut for this? I can't find any references to this anywhere. I use a Mac, OS 10.7.4.

From CS4 onwards, you have to 'Option + click' on the layer mask to reveal toggle between image and mask.
However, there is an option CS6 has for seasoned legacy users, like you!
Photoshop > Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.
Enable checkmark on highlighted read area in the image - Use Legacy Channel Shortcuts. You'll be able to revive the legacy shortcuts for channels/ layers.
Do note that CS6 has a lot of improvements in shortcut commands for other layer/ channel options and tools within PS. You will be sacrificing these if you choose to use Legacy Channel Shortcuts.
Nevertheless, trust this helps

  • Unsupported image format after moving from one project to another

I scanned several thousands of images to my Aperture library. Went thru all of them providing adjustments to many of them, keywords to all of them and adjust date/time to all of them. All of the pics were visible, format is jpeg.
This is a managed library (all pics within Aperture db).
This morning started to restructure the project files (had three of them). After moving couple of hundred images to newly created project file I started seeing "unsupported image format" red screen after clicking the jpeg. 20-30% of the pictures clicked showed on viewer "unsupported image format".
Tried regenerating the previews. Tried command-option start with first fix the preferences option. Then with rebuild option.
Tried moving the pictures back to their original project file.
No joy... Still 20-30% of the pictures show the "unsupported image format".
    Aperture 2.1.
Amy other tricks I could try?
Reported this to Apple aperture feedback of course.

Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
+Note: there is no importing involved+
The thumbs appear, but the images are added 2 or 3 times each and the events are all messed up.
This happens when you import one Library to another, which you've done by drag and drop:
Creating a black library and over writing the new with the old.
Your problem is arising because of the Network Share. iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.

  • Mask from transparent Photoshop image

Targeting player 7, is there a straightforward way to make a
shape from the non-transparent areas of an imported bitmap? By
straightforward I mean other than breaking apart the bitmap and
selecting the non-transparent areas with the magic wand and
deleting them. I have a number of product images with transparent
backgrounds and I want to make masks the same shape as the
    products.

    Hello Bob,

You are absolutely right about concealing difference between
    blend feature
and actual transparency in imported images (.psd, .png).
However, I suppose this was just a first step of adobe
    (initially macromedia
team) back to Director ideas of masking (it was perfectly
    marvelous there).
When you need to mask an image with some predefined mask it's
    much easier
to use images that already have transparency (.png is the
    choice). Nevertheless,
think of situation when you are dynamically (via AS) building
    complex mask:
you can use BitmapData class to scan, for example, an image
    and build your
mask on the basis of this scan with further option to apply
    different blending
modes on the fly. Need more vivid example? No problemo: for
    instace, you
are making some dynamic gallery or e-shop frontend, all your
    photos are initially
made for easier keying feature (on some solid color
    background. most often
green or blue), and you need to use these photos to be
    displayed semi-transparent.
Of couse, you can use photoshop (processing images like a
    sort of a robot...),
but you can use the method I've described above (letting you
    flash work over
the photos and making it possible for you to spend much more
    time with sweet
chicks d^_^b or beer, or whatever you like). The choice is
    yours )))

Safe mode is not what you want in this case. Reboot to recovery mode - hold down cmd-R as the Mac reboots. Go past the language-selection screen, click the Utilities menu, then Terminal. Type:
    resetpassword
Followed by the return key, and follow the prompts. Reboot normally when done.

I have moved from a G5 Powermac to an Intel Mac Pro and selectively porting over items from a backup hard drive.
How can I access and use documents and drawings created on the PC based computer ?

Clarisworks, you need Appleworks, which will only work with Mac OS X10.6.8 or earlier.  See this tip if you must go newer.  Mac Pros with newer hardware configuration than July 20, 2011 can't use Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier without this tip and then it would be Mac OS X Server.  I'm not sure if the new black Mac Pro supports that configuration or not.
iPhoto, there is an iPhoto for all versions of Mac OS X.
iTunes, there is an iTunes for all versions of Mac OS X.  Note with iTunes versions 11 and later, which are needed for syncing with iOS 7 or or later, you will lose coverflow, if you liked that feature.  Sadly you can't run an older version of iTunes from within Mac OS X 10.9 or later.
Sketchup: http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/60107 shows the versions that will work with intermediate Mac OS X versions, and this shows the latest version: http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/36208 be sure to click on the operating system you choose to use.
GIF - Viewing GIFs Apple's Preview can do that.  Editing them, I like http://www.lemkesoft.com/ Graphicconverter.
DMG is able to be opened by all versions of Mac OS X.  This are just "disk images" which store programs on a virtual disk that will open when double clicked.    Frequently you'll find the installer of the said program inside.  To find out if the program itself is compatible with 10.7 through 10.9, see http://www.roaringapps.com/
    Otherwise see the resources on:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
If you end up deciding to stick with Snow Leopard.

  • Moving from iPhoto to Aperture with limited drive space

My biggest concern is the lack of space on my MacBook Air.
I have already purchased and download Aperture.
In the Import window I see the "move files" radiobutton and the "copy files" radiobutton under the "Store Files:" dropdown,  but they are disabled.
As I understand if I just import my IPhoto Library, it will duplicate the files into the Aperture Library, and that wont work since my current library (iPhoto) is way bigger than my freespace in disk.
Buying external drive is not an option now since I im saving to buy a NAS that will solve my space problems in the near future.
What i would like to achieve is just to move all my iPhoto Library to Aperture Library. I wont use iPhoto anymore.
Can someone help me with this? Im really looking forward to use Aperture....

    Hello Richieto,
I have already purchased and download Aperture.
In the Import window I see the "move files" radiobutton and the "copy files" radiobutton under the "Store Files:" dropdown,  but they are disabled. What i would like to achieve is just to move all my iPhoto Library to Aperture Library. I wont use iPhoto anymore.
Set the "storeFiles" selector to "in their current location".
Have you seen this support article. Moving from iPhoto to Aperture - How to move http://www.apple.com/aperture/iphoto-to-aperture/how.html
If you follow these instructions, you will import your iPhoto Library by referencing - that means, all images remain in your iPhoto library; your iPhoto Library will remain unchanged, but Aperture references the files in in the iPhoto Library. This will save disk space; your images will be stored only once: Set the "Store Files" selector to "in their current location".
If you decide to do it this way, make sure you have a working backup of your iPhoto library. Also remember at all times that your master image files now are managed independently by two applications, that do know nothing of what the other app does and are not synchronized. So you must not move the iPhoto library, and you must not delete any images that are shared by both applications. Other than that this way to import from iPhoto will be the best deal, if you need to be frugal with disk space.
What i would like to achieve is just to move all my iPhoto Library to Aperture Library. I wont use iPhoto anymore.
Once you are happy with  the way Aperture handles the images you can copy your iPhoto library to a backup location and consolidate the master image files (File -> consolidate) by moving them from your iPhoto Library into the Aperture Library. This will delete them from iPhoto and store them inside the Aperture Library package. Then delete the iPhoto Library after testing that the consolidation was successful.
I im saving to buy a NAS that will solve my space problems in the near future.
Just a caution - you should not use the NAS to store the Aperture library - an Aperture library needs to bestored on a local volume formatted MacOS X extended.

  • Oracle Openworld 2007 moved from San Francisco?

I was googling for Oracle Openworld 2007, and noted that OOW 2007 is not being held in San Fransicso this year:
    Oracle OpenWorld 2007
    September27th-29th, Lalandia
Why has it been moved from San Francisco?
    http://miracleas.dk/images/upload/MOOW07/MOOW07_agenda.pdf

What on earth were your search terms? I tried Oracle Open World/ Oracle Open World 2007/openworld 2007 openworld/ etc etc and all of them returned the Oracle event at the top of the list. Some of them returned Miracle's SQLServer open world in the top 5 admittedly.
The fact that there are only 3 tracks in the event you list might have given you a clue as well.
That all said I'd far rather be at the Lalandia event that OpenWorld itself - the agenda has no fat (well apart from the musical maybe) and the presenters are all absolutely top notch. sadly my company won't pay for either event.

  • Moving from Bridge to Lightroom, when adding existing files on hard drive, will metadata transfer? Should I choose embed sidecar in file handling or will it automatically happen if I choose standard?

Moving from Bridge to Lightroom. Will metadata in existing files be recognized by Lightroom, and should I select embed+sidecar when adding files to library for the first time.

    Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback.
CHRIS - you are exactly right about my FUTURE workflow. What I'm trying to figure out now is how to best handle images already processed. My import should be OK based on the way I have duplicates in separate directories, BUT I'm wondering how to avoid seeing all of these duplicates in LR when I search by keyword, etc.? I guess I can somehow flag the RAW files and only get them in my results.
One question though - Stacks, etc. sounds great for the LR processed images. But what about variations based on processing in Photoshop after the LR Develop stage? I guess in this case I will just have to keep duplicate images if I have multiple versions from my PS work?
ISAAC - Thanks for clarifying that LR will recognize my XMP files from Bridge. What about the opposite direction . . . if I edit something in LR and capture this via XMP, it won't prohibit Bridge from recognizing XMP info if I access a file via Bridge, will it?
ALSO - Do you know where I can find info about tracking via XMP vs. the central database? You mentioned a couple of valid points, but I'm not sure I have a full handle on the pros/cons of these options.
    Thanks!

  • Since me and my mother moved from iChat to iMessage bêta, screen sharing works only one way. I can share my screen with her but not the reverse. When actually what I would like to do is share her screen. Video works fine both ways.

Screensharing works only one way since we moved from iChat to iMessage bêta. Before that we have never had any problem with screen sharing. We haven't changed anything else, just installed iMessage. What I need to do is share her screen, and the only thing I can do is share my screen...

    HI,
On the whole I am finding it very stable.  (it presents the same quirks in the same manner each time)
It has some things that are more Feature requests than "Bugs" per se about the way it works that I would like to change.
It can also be difficult to tell exactly what is going on whenyou are hearing about it third hand.
Sounds like you have a plan.

  • Moving from Windows 7 To Macbook Air OS X

I currently own Elements 12 license on Windows. Am wanting to move all photos and software to Macbook Air. Via chat, they want me to use their monthly 9.99 plan, but not sure I want to do that. Is there a way to simply move my Elements 12 (and also Lightroom) from Windows to Mac? I'm okay with upgrade to 13, but not sure I want to pay extra if I don't have to. Any suggestions? Background: I take a LOT of desert landscape photos, and do minor post adjustments, then upload to Zenfolio for marketing and eventual sale. I'm not fluent in Lightroom, but have used many versions of Elements over the years. Have never used full version of Photoshop CS. Moving over 100,000 images. Uploading less than 1,000 to marketing site. I view, select a few, minor post adjustments, and go. Thanks in advance.

Sure press and hold down the power button on the Mac until it turns off then press that button again to turn it back on. Migration assistant will be killed.

  • Height Field From Mask

In Image Units, in Stylize there is a "setting" called Height Field From Mask. What can you tell me about the purpose of this.
At the high end of the scale there is a nice blooming of dark image areas into bright, but at the low end there is not much in the way of easing from no effect to effected.
I'd like to create something to be used as a fade up from black that has the same qualities to it as the high range settings but can also smoothly go into no effect.
    o-|TonyTony|-o

It's sort of a two part question.
One what is the Height Field from Mask filter suppose to be used for?
Two to try and create a fade up from black that has a nice blooming of dark image areas into bright, like this filter does on the high end of the scale range.
Just fading up with the filter applied doesn't cover the whole range of a fade.
You really have to look at it to get the idea.

  • Boot Camp moved from MacPro1,1 to MacPro5.1...

I have a Maxtor serial ATA hard drive which I put into my MacPro1,1 when I got it years ago, partitioned it with Boot Camp back then, and installed Windows XP Pro 32 bit on it (the other partition was a backup boot partition for Leopard). Over the intervening years, I'd kept Boot Camp updated as I moved from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard.
So I got a new MacPro5,1 and removed this hard drive, placing it into the new Mac Pro.
    Here's the thing:
The BOOTCAMP volume does not appear anywhere in the Finder, even though the other partition ("Leopard") does.
I can launch Disk Utility and see the physical drive and it's 2 partitions; the BOOTCAMP partition is greyed out, of course, since it is NOT mounted. I can click on the BOOTCAMP partition in the listing, and see that it is "not mounted", and it is formatted as "Windows NT File System (NTFS)" and that it is 33.46GB in size. If I click the "Mount" button, I get an error message:
    MOUNT FAILED
The disk “BOOTCAMP” could not be mounted.
Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting.
Running Repair on the volume does nothing - no report of errors...
I can open System Preferences, select the Startup Disk preference pane, and the BOOTCAMP volume is not listed.
So - seems like I'm dead in the water. However, if I reboot holding the "option" key down, BEHOLD, the BOOTCAMP volume is there in the bootpicker screen, can be selected, and will boot to XP just fine. I did run the Bootcamp updaters after getting booted into XP, that went fine. Rebboting back into Snow Leopard was no problem.
OK, so what's the problem? I need to be able access that NTFS volume from the Mac OS. *sigh* Any insights?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    An update-
I did a repartition on another of the drives in my tower, then used Boot Camp Assistant to create an NTFS partition on it; this partition showed up on the desktop just fine. Then I used WinClone to image the existing Boot Camp partition, and then I restored the image to the new Boot Camp partition. And guess what - that partition now will not mount either.
    *sigh*

  • Form button does not work when a program is moved from Windows 8.2 to Windows 7

    Hi,
I have a few Excel programs which use the ODBC to get data from Access and which have macros which writes data to an external program, MYOB.
When the macros tries to write the data to MYOB it fails if I am not running the program in administrator mode.   It seems that Windows 8.2 has a different level of security than Windows 7 and must be run in administrator mode for the ODBC to work.
I have had issues after running the program in administrator mode (testing) if I simply do a save (in administrator mode) and then send it to the customer.   The issue is that it just will not work on the customer's site.   I have gotten
around this in the past by saving any changes, going back out of excel, loading the program again (not in administrator mode) and saving it - before sending it to the customer.   This worked until now.
For some unknown reason, the last time I sent a program to the customer and carried out the above process, the program stopped working.   Originally I thought that the macro just wouldn't work on windows 7, but eventually found that it is the form button
that will no longer work when the program is moved from 8.2 to 7.
Does anyone know why there is an incompatibility between 8.2 and Windows 7 and what I should be doing to ensure that my programs work in my customers environment(windows7)?
In the meanwhile, I have changed the form button to an activex button and the program works fine in both environments.
    Thanking you in advance,

there is some OP report after Windows update Dec 2014 macro stop responding ( I cant confirm if this is also related to your issue) its because security update for Office maybe conflict with the active-x that you are installed
    try to
    Close Excel
    Start Windows Explorer.
Select your system drive (usually C:)
Use the Search box to search for *.exd
Delete all the files it finds.
    Start Excel again
Open that file and save it, and try open at Windows 7

I have the iPhone 5 and have with 6.0.1 software version.  Although I had them when I moved from iPhone 4 to the 5 (could play them), the latest update has most of my songs on the phone listed in grey (over 95% of them) and I can't play them.  They are still listed in the iTunes library.  When I look in the Summary for the iPhone, it shows Audio as only .16 GB - I have over 5 GB of songs, so what gives?
P.S. When I look at my Playlists most of the songs are greyed out.  However, at the bottom of the list there is a cloud icon with a downward facing arrow.  When I click on it each song starts to "load" and after a few minutes I have the songs back on in the list.  I have to do this to all my playlists (I had over 100) in order to get access to all my songs.  Then I did a sync and it happened again!
I use iCloud for documents and some other things (calendar, contact, etc.) but am not aware that I have anything music-wise in the cloud.  Any thougnts?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.
