Moving from old computer to new

My wife and I have seperate macbooks.  Her's is old and mine is newer.  Nevertheless, I would like to take her user profile, settings, mail, files, etc. and move them to a new user on my macbook.  What is the best way to do this?  Migration Assistant?

Your original question was, "When I create the disk image can I add to it or do I have to set up or allocate a certain amount of size?"
A sparse disk image, as recommended in the Apple article, does allocate the entire size you specify (so it may take a while to create, copy, or move a large one).  Most of it is empty at first, of course.  When it's full, you can't add anymore without changing the size.
A sparse bundle disk image, however, sets only a maximum size.  The actual size grows as you add stuff.  Again, when full, you can change the maximum size.
If you use Time Machine to back up, you probably want to use the sparse bundle disk image.  See the tan box in #D8 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting for an explanation.
If you use a "cloning" app, such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper for backups, it really won't make a lot of difference which you use.  Since you probably don't back up more than once a day, backing-up an entire sparse disk image won't make much difference.

  • How to get itunes library moved from old computer to new computer?

I have an ipod with itunes set up on an older pc. Recently purchased a laptop and migrated all of my info from old pc to new laptop (windows 7 format). They are listed in a separate file under 'My Music'.
I downloaded the itunes 9.1 to my laptop.
Now, how do I get the music files over to the itunes program?

Or from within iTunes go to File>Add Folder To Library. Then select the folder that contains your music and iTunes will do the rest.

  • Music moved from old computer to new one but itunes not installed ...confusion

my music files were on my employer furnished laptop.  i recd a new laptop & IT moved all music files but didnt install itunes ..if i now install a current version of itunes on my new business computer will it automatically find/sync my itunes music files

Once iTunes is installed, it should find all your files.  Syncing the files requires you to have signed into iTunes with your Apple ID first.
In case iTunes is confused about where your files are, this article should help:

old computer is offline, so if I have to make a copy of something hopefully it can be done offline.
Don't really understand why windows 7 renders Firefox so different that XP. Will change, but really like the old feel.

  • How to transfer icloud data from old computer to new computer

how to transfer icloud data from old computer to new computer

The iCloud data will be on the new computer as soon as you download the iCloud control panel and sign into iCloud with your iCloud ID. What you see in iCloud is stored in iCloud, so it really doesn't matter what computer you are on. Once that computer is signed onto iCloud and the iCloud options are selected, you have full access to all of that information, and much of it is pushed back to your computer.
If you are referring to the data in an iCloud backup created by an iOS device, then that is not something that would be on a computer at all.
Does that answer your question? If not, post back with more info about what you are looking to find out.
    Cheers,

  • HT4527 When transferring iTunes from old computer to new computer, even though all of songs were copied over, not all of them went to iTunes, some appear to be stored elsewhere. How can I find these songs, and how do I transfer them to iTunes?

When transferring iTunes from old computer to new computer, all my songs were copied over, but not all of them were stored in iTunes. It appears they are on the computer somewhere, but not on iTunes. Where are these other songs likely to be, and how can I get them onto iTunes? Because of this problem, Apple will not allow me to update my iPhone.

You may/must have had music files stored outside of your iTunes library.
I'd recommend going to the Finder and then via the search box look for files with mp3 aif m4a aac etc. depending on the music format your digital music had. With the list of files shown you should be able to learn which files were stored outside of your music > itunes folder
Chances are they could be burried somewhere under your documents, downloads, desktop, ... we all have different storage and organization habits.
Then when you find the missing files, on the new computer you can do add to library and go to the folder on the other computer where the missing files are - if your systems are networked - or sneak them over using a USB thumb drive or portable hard drive if you have lots of files, or if you like to have an extra backup of that music, copy to optical disc.

How do I transfer Photoshop Elements 10 from old computer to new laptop?

You need to installed it in the same way as you did on old machine.
If you like to save one instance of the license then please do de-activate while uninstalling.
Or if you have already used your "Two" instances of installation then you must need to de-activate one of the machine while
uninstalling so it will release the instance for new installation.
