Moving from one laptop to another

Now i know this must have been asked a few (ok hundreds) of times but i just want to make sure i'm doing it right as it's not my music collection were talking about.
Laptop 1, run vista and has all itunes stuff on C drive, except the "iTunes\iTunes Media\Automatically Add to iTunes" (as well as "iPod Games and Music" folders) which sits on his D drive I have taken a copy of the *"iTunes\iTunes Media\Automatically Add to iTunes" (as well as "iPod Games and Music" folders) and stored this on my own external hard drive.
But I know just copying those 30 or 40 odd GB of music files will not be enough and i'm sure i have read on here that i must take some more folder from his C drive.
Now i'm not sure if we are talking about "C:\Users\user name\Documents" folders or "C:\Program Files\iTunes" can anyone shed any light on this for me?
Finally one last point new Laptop 2 will be running Win7 Home Prem 64bit (yes i have the 64bit installer) can anyone also tell me how to go about importing the stuff from the old laptop (well to be honest it will be my external hard drive), onto the new one so his playlist art work etc are all carried over and any issue with first syncing i do.
Sorry for so many Q's but as i say it's not my music collection and don't want to screw it up for him.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Copy the *entire iTunes folder.* It includes the iTunes Media folder as well as all the library files that have the playcounts, playlists, and ratings.
Now i'm not sure if we are talking about "C:\Users\user name\Documents" folders or "C:\Program Files\iTunes" can anyone shed any light on this for me?
The one you want is in Documents. On the Win 7 machine you will put it in Music.
Don't bother with anything in Program Files; when you install iTunes on the new computer, the correct form of the program files will be built.

How do I transfer itunes from one laptop to another?

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  (or wherever the equivalent is on Windows) then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • How do I export or transfer my iTunes from one laptop to another?

I'm switching from one laptop to another (both using WIN 7), and I'm having difficulty.  It might be that my iTunes folder is incorrect or in the wrong place.  I tried copying my iTunes folder from a folder in My Music.  This folder also had a list of folders that seem to be album names.  In alphabetical order, one of these folders is named "iTunes".  That folder has files like "iTunes Library.itl", several temp files, iTunes Library Extras.itdb  and iTunes Library Genius.itdb.  It also has folders called "Album artwork" and "iTunes Media".  I tried copying over this iTunes  folder, but nothing showed up in iTunes.  This would be easy if I were allowed to synch from my iPod to iTunes, but I've heard that's not allowed.  Any help, especially step-by-step assistance, would be greatly appreciated.

Migrate an iTunes library from one computer to another
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entireiTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one, with ratings, play counts, playlists etc. preserved. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd normally recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library and unlike copying with Windows Explorer the process can be resumed if it is interrupted and it will continue to the next item if there are any read/access errors.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See Make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Can i transfer my backup from one laptop to another?

I have my backup of apps and music stored in one laptop's iTunes account, how can I transfer my backup from one laptop to another?

iTunes downloads are not stored in a backup (that contains documents, files, camera roll photos, app content/settings etc), neither are the contents of the device's Music and Videos apps - instead a restore would look to pick up your music, films, apps etc from your iTunes library.
Your backups are stored under :
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.
You will need to copy the entire backup directory and copy it into the relevant directory on your other laptop - it should then automatically be picked up by that computer's iTunes and show on the Devices tab in Edit > Preference (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac) on it.

  • Transfer app data from one laptop to another?

Not quite sure if this is the right place for this question but I'll give it a shot...
I've recently got a new laptop and haven't yet plugged my iPod into it yet as I'm wary about losing all my app data. I've tried searching the internet but I haven't really found anything that helps.
So my question - if you transfer apps and stuff from one laptop to another will all the data stay with it (over home sharing or external harddrive) or will it clear all the data once I connect my ipod? Is it even possible to keep the app data?
Please help, I'm desperate to put more music on my iPod and can't use my old laptop to do it as I can't install the latest iTunes due to lack of memory.
    Thank you

  • HT1349 I have just moved from one pc to another.  I had used 5 computers to attach to itunes.  I went in and disabled all 5 of my accounts but cant get the new computer to give me a prompt to authorize this computer.  Any ideas?

    Hellow everyone,
I have just moved from one PC to another.  They are windows pc's not macintosh.  When i installed itunes on the new computer it stated that I already had 5 devices authrorized for this account.  I did a little reading and went in and deathorized all 5 PC from the account as I am sure it was a couple pcs ago and a few iphones.   When I try and go in and authorize an account I cant see anywhere where there is a prompt to authorize the new PC.  I go into store and all it says is that there are no devices associated to this account.  What I would like to do is associate my new PC and my iphone to this account and hopefully restore from the cloud all of my music and programs.
Any idea what I am doing wrong here or how I can resolve this. Thanks in advance.
    Respectully.
