  • Firefox is moving too slow!

I notice that my firefox bowser is moving too slow for me. i cant explain why this is happening but i have been using firefox for a long time and id hate to stop using it because it's speed is moving at a turtle's pace. My internet connection is fine(in fact very fast) and i scan my computer for viruses and junk every day and nothing. if there is a faster way to speed up the browser then i will be happy. P.S i even have to use google chrome to type this message

Xircal, I've spent some time 'prodding about' and have found the add-on page/list and found that I did indeed have some add-ons so I have disabled quite a few of them and Firefox loads much quicker now. Thanks for that help. However, I still do not see a 'Firefox Button' on my home page.

  • Slow speeds on Infinity

    Hi guys,
I am hoping that someone will be able to explain to me my lack of speed with BT Infinity. When this was first installed in November I was enjoying fast internet browsing, downloading and streaming speeds. Using speedtests I was getting approx. 35Mb for download, however this has now diminished to a lowly 0.5Mb or less. I have applied for the new faster BT Infinity from when I first received it and am seeing no different to the speed.
I have a slightly unusual set-up at home in that the BT Home Hub 3 is located in a room downstairs connecting to 3 devices and the 1GB port is connected to a Linksys Router upstairs which is connecting 2 PC's. I am using this set-up at the moment as I cannot afford to purchase a switch, this set-up was working fine before even with my previous broadband provider.
I have tried to set the wireless set-up for dual band and this seemed to cause more problems and have since moved back to single band for the wireless however, I'm still struggling to maintain the speeds that I had back in November.
I set a twitter message to BT and was asked to run their speedtest which indicated I was getting 0Mbps for download and 0.37Mbps for upload and also similar speeds from the thinkbroadband and speedtest websites. I'm now at a loss as to what I need to do in order to get my speeds back up as to what they were originally.
Any help on what I can try will be much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Jiten
    Jiten

I no longer have the IP profile for that particular instance, however I have run the test again today and this is the IP profile from the BT speedtest:
IP Profile for your line is - 77.43 Mbps
I seem to still have a slow speed on Infinity even though the IP profile is much higher than what it was when I ran the test earlier.
    Any ideas?

  • Slow speeds on new BT Service in comparison with o...

    Hi all
I would love some help with this problem: I transferred by Sky package over to BT on 5 October and have seen a deterioration in speed since. I have called the Indian call centre several times and today, after I tried out a new BT Home Hub 2 they sent me, I'm at wits' end! The problem, needless to say, is consistently there.
For the record, I have made sure I've followed your forum's excellent help regarding improving slow speeds. I have ensured all my phone sockets are fitted with working ADSL filters. The Homehub has been moved around the room to several locations, all proving the interference I'm getting is not affected by location at home. My main socket for the hub is fitted with an Accelerator (which did make a slight improvement initially). However, the speeds I was enjoying prior to BT have diminished so far that it seems illogical that the problem exists at my end.
I have a BT Vision box too which works fine through the Comtrend ethernet / wireless sockets provided by BT. Turning these off has no effect on the speed. I bought a hub phone which works fine too.
Here are some stats from TBB's speed test. I performed a BT Speed test earlier and the results are consistently similar. I would have posted the BT results, but they reset before I could do so. Time pressures being what they are, I have to leave in a moment so I cannot wait another hour or so to repeat! 16/02/10 was Sky. Again, everything later than 05/10/10 is BT's.

I can no longer burn CDs  - "may be incompatible with this disc burner, try a slower speed, try another make of disc"  Tried that, still doesn't work.

Try a free burning utility which allows you to turn off the laser for test burning (so you don't waste media).  Try burning a test CD outside of iTunes.  If it works it's iTunes. If it doesn't work it could be computer software or hardware but then we know how to proceed.

  • Extremely slow speeds on Windows Computers with 5th Generation AirPort Extreme

I just got a new refurbished AirPort Extreme 5th generation. Everything works great for all of my OS X devices and iOS Devices. I am getting my ISPs speeds when doing tests. The issue is when I am using Windows devices. My roommate has a desktop and a netbook and both are getting extremely slow speeds. Speeds like .07Mbps down. Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be?

You have no large file?? Really.. in the whole computer there is not a windows update file.. a backup file... a movie download file.. nothing.. ??
Anyway that is irrelevant.. the issue is wireless.
Download the latest drivers from the wireless manufacturer.
You will need to find out what wireless card is used and locate the correct download for that model.
On the Airport it is well worth doing the following tests.
    1. Change the name to SMB standard.. short no spaces pure alphanumeric.
So if your wireless name is Fred Blog's Airport Extreme wireless
    Plesae change it to AEwifi
    2. Take off all security for a test.
    3. Set channels.. I am guessing the computers are only using 2.4ghz, so set 11,6, 1 in that order.
No improvement.. just put the security back to WPA2 Personal with pure alphanumeric password..
Try and test new drivers and use no firewalls on the computer.. ensure that the computer is correctly set for home network.
Beyond that it is just incompatible.

I have a video that is 1920 x 1080 14.99fps, when I load in Premiere 1080p30 it appears to be moving in slow motion, How do I fix that?

I am having the same problem, which I can explain a little better: A clip which is actually 29.97 fps (verified using QT properties) is importing as 1/2 framerate, or 14.985 (rounded up to 14.99) fps. This happens with several of my clips, regardless of the import method used (drag/drop from OS, right-click/import, or use Media Browser). I cannot interpret the footage back to 29.97, as doing so doubles the speed of the audio (an interview) making it unusable.

  • Very slow speeds and ridiculous email and bill for...

    Hi
i have several issues. I have been a very satisfied customer for over 15 years until early summer of this year:
    1. My broadband speeds remain painfully slow despite 3 complaints and investigations. In fact my line is still connected to the test line as I was advised to do and I have never had a call back as promised.
    2. I have now received an email message to say I have used 90gb at a cost of £50. This is almost all uploads. i upload nothing and this figure is impossible. Until June my usage was quite small and I came nowhere near my limit on option 2. Nothing has changed with my usage since then. I do not download or stream films and do not upload large quantities. I probably would stream films, but the slow speed does not allow it.
    3. I spent over an hour on the phone trying to sort this out today, but was not helped by a succession of people who barely understood the situation and had even less understanding of customer service. I have now emailed, but have had a message saying it might be 72 hours before a reply.
Any advice would be really helpful as I am at my wits end
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Ok....since the original post the problem has continued. I have spent literally hours on the phone to people who say all the same things and never come up with a solution.
The test results are below. I do not experience speeds as reported. And if I use another tester it correctly comes out as about 1 4 - 1.9. or even lower. The upload usage is still showing as high....but it is just not possible. I have now reset the hub wireless key, but I have not shared this with anyone in range. Apple TV is now disconnected after it was going to take 20 hours to download a film!
I am at my wits end with this and really do not want the hassle of changing provider but even after 20 years BT broadband I am so very close to that.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • No ADSL link after moving home

    Dear Moderators,
I moved home within E14 area. I had a working internet connection despite issues being posted around Poplar area and the 02075 issue.
After moving house, the same number issued, but I checked the hub and there is no ADSL link at all.
I double checked to make sure nothing else is connected, ensured only the BT home hub was connected, there is neither a blue or yellow light and finally changed filters. I logged inside the BT home hub and the hub says no ADSL connection
I called the help desk who did the line test and I explained what I did and they asked me to change filters again, reboot router, reboot my computer. It was promoted to 2nd line and I was told I would be contacted in 5 hours, I have waited the whole day at home.
Any chance someone could check on the exchange what the issue is and see if there is a ADSL link and whether it is ADSL 2+? If you can provide an email address, I can email you my BT number.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your help mods. Very professional help and the personal touch of calling me to keep me updated was very nice.
Lastly, I was told my line supported ADSL2, however when my ADSL came online it only shows 2MB/s (my estimated speed was 7MB/s), can someone please take a look?

  • Moving home

Hi everyone. Perhaps a member can advise me about this.
I contacted BT about a month ago and advised them that I was moving home and would like to take my infinity and youview with me.
They checked the available line speed for me and advised that the best I could hope for was 1 mb. The exchange near my new property will not be upgraded for 18 months.
I told the operator that there was little point installing broadband at that available speed and we agreed that the contract should end at no charge because bt could not provide the service.
The advisor told me that I could keep the youview box.
That was about a month ago. Yesterday I called to say we had exchanged contracts on the new house and we would be moving at the end of the month. The contract has been cancelled from the end of the month. But the new advisor says I must return the youview box?
I have many hours of programs recorded to the box so do not really want to return it. Plus as soon as infinity is available in my area I fully intend to have it installed.
I would be much happier if I could keep this box and not have to pay again in 18 months.
Does anyone know if I can keep this recorder. I am sure when I signed up they said the box was mine. I am only however 6 months into the contract.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I agree with Zulu as you only six months into a contract then you are indeed liable to return the box as the representative said. However I'll ask a Mod to see what can be done.

  • Upgraded to ADSL2 now get slower speeds than befor...

    Hello
Well last Tuesday my line was upgraded to the 20mb ADSL2 and I was looking forward to some increase in bandwidth (even though before the upgrade my line was pumping 7mb most of the time which I was happy with)
Now for some reason I am getting slower speeds than before I upgraded. Something tells me I should not have bothered with the amount of effort it took to get the upgrade.
I cant understand why my DL is saying 3000+ and before upgrade it was reading 7500+
I have not reset my hub manually all disconnections have been done automatic.
Here are my router stats and I have been reading a few posts and I am hoping someone can shine some light on this for me:

  • SLOW speeds after sw update - Novatel 4G LTE router with voice

My device auto-updated to sw 2.0 and ever since am getting 1-3 Mbps up/down. Prior to the sw update, I was getting "normal" LTE speeds ranging from 15-25 Mbps up/down.
Verizon processed a replacement (was brand new, swapped in-store) with same experience. Speeds were normal but after a few minutes of being powered on, the router auto-updates to 2.0 and slow speeds thereafter.
Phone front line has been nice but since this device is so new hoping posting here with get the attention of someone to correct this issue. Swapping for replacement devices isn't solving the problem.
Anyone else? Ideas for a fix?

Ok, I just followed JoeL and am awaiting approval. For reference, see the image of 3 speed tests this morning conducted on an LTE iPad. No other devices are connected to the router.
connected to the wireless network broadcast by the Verizon 4G LTE router - 0.6 down/up, unacceptable
connected straight to the Verizon LTE network - 34 down / 9 up, fine
    home wireless network
The 1st test should look very similar to the 2nd since both are using the Verizon LTE network

  • Slow speeds for the past 2 weeks

For the past 2 weeks I have been having very slow speeds. At first I thought it was the westell modem which kept powering down, rebooting every 30+ mins or would save the network settings. Purchase a new modem still have the slow speed minus the constant reboots and loss of settings.
Any chance to get my speeds up to what Iam currently paying for?
    Package: 1.5-3Mbps
Speed tests form diffrent sites 0.399Mbps to 0.412 Mbps
    Former modem: Westell 327W A90-327W15-06
    Current modem: Actiontec GT784WN
    Downstream Speed: 480 Kbps
    Upstream Speed: 448 Kbps
SNR Downstream : 6 dB SNR Upstream : 10 dB
    Attenuation Downstream : 63 dB
    Attenuation Upstream : 31 dB
    Power Downstream 14.3 dBm Power
    Upstream 11.9 dBm

Your line isn't in a very good shape to be running on the 1.5Mbps-3Mbps package. As it stands, you barely have enough capacity to support even 1/3 of the 1.5Mbps provisioning. There's simply too much noise.
What you should do first is take one of your modems out to your NID, if you have access to one and plug it into the test jack found inside of the NID. If there is a telephone plug already inserted into it, remove it to gain access to the jack (this will disconnect your home's wiring until you reconnect it). From there, sync up the modem and post up the new Transceiver Statistics you obtain.
Have your speeds been at 1.5-3Mbps in the past? That would also help us. Lastly, if you have Voice Service with Verizon, do you have any noise on your line, such as humming, buzzing, loud static or popping?

  • NJ FIOS Very slow speeds

I just recently got FIOS and everything has been good until tonight.
It seems after about 7pm my speeds have been dropped dramtically from 25/5 too 1/5
My computer is not the issue
I have already tried rebooting the modem multiple times
The slow speed seems to come on at random times and then fix itself
Could this be since FIOS just moved into my area and they are working on something around here?

It could be a problem with your connection if speeds fall past 7PM. Are you testing from a Wireless connection by chance? Know of any neighbors suddenly seeing issues?
