Moving images and importing images

Hello everyone:
I am new to this forum and am a new Aperture user.
I am unable to move images from a project to an album within that project. When I try to do so the "+" cursor shows with the number of images I am trying to move, but when I open up the album there are no images in it.
Also when I try to import images from my camera to a particular album, they only go into the album's project, not the album itself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou.

Welcome to the forum! The following questions might sound stupid, but bear with me...
They are definitely regular Albums and not Smart Albums?
The Albums don't have any search criteria set, such as minimum ratings?
What happens when you select some images and hit Command-L (make a new Album from the selection)?
Does the problem still occur after relaunching Aperture and/or restarting the computer?
Is there a number visible next to the Album name (turn it on in the preferences if need be), and if so, does it still say '0'?

  • Moving projects and imported media from computer to EHD

    Hello all
I have just recently finished a project in  FCPX and all the media is stored on my Macs hard drive. I am wanting to move this project to my EHD, so its not taking up so much space on my computers HD. But in doing so i also want to be able to go back and edit the project at anytime. Can anyone help me out on how to move everything over. I tried to copy the project folder itself but says that the file volume is to small to copy over.
    Thanks

    Tom,
When I duplicate the project to a properly formatted EHD as you have suggested, fcpx accurately creates duplicate event and project files on the EHD, however it also creates an exact duplicate event in the event library i.e. with the identical name and contents as ther original - 2 exact event files.  Is this normal?

  • Moving images/catalogue from daughter to main catalog - Question and help requested on flow

    All,
I have been using LR since 1.0 and now on 2.5 on a PC (Vista & Windows 7)
    My picture management work-flow
I pull-in photos onto laptop which has a small catalog of 2009 images and usually only 6000 in (Nefs D300/D70) (Daughter catalog)
On laptop I keyword etc and prepare photos.
Once my hard drive (250GB) gets about 2/3 full I move 10-20 folders (I store images by shooting date) to a "master" hard drive (1TB) using the freeware "Syncback".
I back up catalog at this point.
Also moving the images to the 1TB means those photos are now going into my Main catalog, and I export the catalog of images that I transfered above and import that intot he main catalog that sort of works
    Now question(s) come(s)
I lose in the 2009 catalog the link to the images once they have been moved by sync back to the 1TB driveand have to manually reconnect within lightroom.
I am sure there is a better way yo do this, is there and can anyone help me -
Can I drag and drop in the library mode in the "folder LH view" the images from the local (c) drive to the 1TB drive.  I haven't tried this (I'm a coward)
If I eschew the use of Sync back and then export the catalog and images from the Daughter catalog, how can I make sure when I import them into the Main catalog that the images are stored on the 1TB drive correctly (Images/yyyy-mm-dd)?
Is this handled through the image import dialog when moving the exported catalog into the Main one ?
I hope this is understandable, as I say I have been a little timid with these steps
Many many thanks in advance for help and pointers
    Simon Leppard

When you import a catalog, the Import Dialog will come up. Click copy to new location and Import. Lightroom will import using the existing folder structure as is.

LR 5.6 on Mac desktop all of a sudden will not read any card from any reader but will work on my laptop. I can work on previous images but not import new ones. Even if I create a catalog on laptop and import to my desktop on a thumb drive, the images are only accessible as long as the thumb drive is inserted.

Sounds like you may need to repair the Disk Permissions on your drive where your images are stored.

I am experiencing Mavericks failing to copy subdirectories from usb sticks, I am backing up game saves from a console. Both sticks I use are fine, same permissions of course since the console wrote the files. Sometimes it copies, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be related to the mounting process.
Thank God Apple hasn't (yet) broken bash.

  • Moving Images and Catalog Questions...

Since I first started using Lighroom, I have kept all images in one catalog on my laptop hard drive. It was time to change that and move all images to my NAS, further backing up a copy of all to another external drive, and keeping some copies of images on my laptop for when I am undocked and want to show my best work.
Seemed the only way to do this was to use two catalogs, so I created a new one for the images on the NAS.
After checking that all was good and making a backup of the Laptop catalog, I copied the master folder of all images and sidecars to the NAS. I then opened the new catalog which was empty and imported all from the new location.
So, now I have two catalogs and both backed up as catalogs and complete image sets so I am good no matter what. Let's call them Laptop and Network. I have not yet deleted anything on the Laptop.
Network found not only all images, but somehow 21 more than on the Laptop. Cannot figure out how the number of images could be different, but they are. Not really a problem, but a curiousity, no?
All edits are there. Images look identical to Laptop. Keywords, image titles, folders - all perfect.
    But here are my questions:
I lost my edit histories. By this I mean if I compare an edited RAW image on Laptop. I can see the original image before I started to edit. This is sometimes very helpful. On the Network catalog, it shows the current image and does not have the original preview. The laptop catalog shows the original and current state.
And I lost my collections. Not the end of the world, but would be so nice to not have to rebuild these.
So, is there any way to get these two back? Let's assume, for a moment, that both catalogs are identical (even though there is that 21 image difference). Can I do something with the catalogs or the Previews folder that would bring back the collections and original pre-edit images?
I thought it worth checking before I start to delete images through Lightroom on the Laptop Catalog and continue to edit on the Network catalog. Anything? Export as catalog and replace the .lrcat and rename it? Copy over the root-pixels.db? Any trick?
And last, if anyone is reading, a feature request:
Would be nice to have a preference to select the number of backups to keep. For example, if I could set it to ten, I would never have to worry at all abotu backing up after each session and going to delete old backups no longer needed.
Thanks for any advice. Posted this on  several boards hoping someone might reply before I start to edit again later today. Apologize if you see this in multiple places.
    ~Bob

    You are actually exactly right.
I spent the morning deleting all I had done on the NAS drive and exporting as a catalog with negatives to the NAS. It now has everything I wanted there including the history and collections.
Took a while to get there, but works just fine now and I have two catalogs - one portable and one server based with the .ircat on the laptop for both. Not the most intuitive, but done.
    Thanks.

  • Need to make a 20 second HD clip with a moving image background and text thats flies in...

Hi all im quite new to after effects and need to make a 20 second HD clip with a moving image background and text thats flies in. I also need to create a basic cross image. If anyone could suggest the best way to go about doing this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Thank you for both of your reponses and I will try and be clearer:
what I want to acheive is a HD motion graphic of text which will almost spin onto the screen letter my letter and then a become static word. Behind this I would like to place a moving image clip.
By 'basic cross image' what im looking to do is use a cruifix shape instead of a 't' on the text.
I hope this makes sense and thanks again!

  • Layering content box under a framing image (slicing a Photoshop PSD and importing into Dreamweaver)

    Hi,
I am slicing a Photoshop PSD document and importing into Dreamweaver. Is Dreamweaver able to handle Layered content in the same as Photoshop so that the content box can be Layered below a Decorative Frame. As there will be multiple Images I want to be able to have a content box Layered below the frame, rather than have to make a separate page for each photo in the gallery.
Hope this makes sense. Any pointers gratefully received.
    J

    No.
    Yes.
I regularly receive layered PSD files for web work. The layers allow me to just select one element at a time so that I can complete the pages as the designer wanted me to.
One may have "layers" in a website, but the method is wonky at best and will destroy the flow of a good HTML page, causing rendering problems at worst. You need to think of a website as a 2D object, especially when you are starting out.
If you have elements that need to be "on top" of another element, you'll need to create a div that is within a div, with your inside content inside the outer div. And think of a div as a rectangular area that holds stuff, like pictures, text, colors and graphics.
Layering on websites is usually achieved using JavaScript or AP divs. An Absolutely Positioned div will tend to destroy the normal flow of your HTML, which is why it is recommended only in certain very special cases. If you are just starting out, you need to understand how to construct a 2D web page using HTML and CSS first.

  • Need help finding moved image files

How would I find files after they have been moved? I travel and use a MB Pro laptop. The workflow I'm using is to download images to my desktop, review, rate and add keywords immediately. I make 2 backups, 1 to portable data store hard drive and one to DVD. Then every few days I erase the desktop image files. When I arrive home I download the entire trip's images from the portable storage to my desktop drives (2 500Gb SATA drives).
Is there an easy way to direct Aperture to look for the files in the new location? Or, failing that, is there a better way to work? I regularly have 40 - 60 Gb of images after a trip and the laptop hard drive is inadequate for the task.

The question isn't really clear to me yet. If you know what "the new location" is, then it's easy to make Aperture point to it. But that may not be the question. I think you may need to describe your workflow in more detail.
You don't say how to review etc images on the MBP. If you're using Aperture, it must be with a library. Are you using Managed images there? So is the problem how to transfer data -- images and edits and metadata -- from the library on the MBP to the library (with referenced images??) on the desktop?
Synchronizing libraries is not something Apple makes easy or offers any real help with. The best way to do it turns out to be to export one project at a time, connect to the other machine and its library, and import the projects. (In the process you might also Relocate images to make them referenced.)
But your note about the laptop drive being to small is confusing. I don't see where your images are when you're on the road.

  • Lr3.5 windows_7 64bit: Problem moving images in Library collections

I am ruhnning Windows &7 Pro, 64 bit and I'm experiencing inconsistant behavior in Lightroom 3.5 with regard to moving images within collections.  When I try to move an image, to place it in the order inwhich I would like view the sequence, the image is placed at the end of the sequence no matter where I place it initially.  I've tried the filmstrip view and the grid view and it happens in both.  I recall doing this without problems previously however it was in the imported Library not a collection, but why would this be different??  One still needs to reorder images in collections.  I've made certian to change the "sort" option to user each time I've tried to do this.  Any Ideas?  Thanks

'User order' has some surprises. When it works it can be difficult to appreciate what differs from when it doesn't. Julianne Kost video is a good starting point on what will and won't work with a little on why  http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/custom-sort-orders/  . If collections and several folders are involved the work round to meet your goals may include a combination of moves, copies and renaming files (export and re-import even) to create an alphanumeric sort. The 'dumping' at the end of the sequence manifests itself in other situations related to the order status in force at the point when you start moving files.  See http://forums.adobe.com/message/4026355#4026355 which came down to making sure the sort starting point is appropriate
    Good luck

  • Moving images doesnt update links in topics

    RH8 HTML.
I moved some images around, renamed the folder containing them (all in RH). But the topics that use those images still hold the old link, and wont update to where the folder where the iamges are stored so all the links are dead. Is there a way to force a re-scan or something to make the topics look for the new location of the images, or do I have to change the paths manually in each topic where the links are broken?
I would have thought that when moving images in RH it would update paths in topics where those images are used so that it wouldnt have to be done manually.

Obviously those images were showing in Project Manager before you started moving the topics around, RH has always reworked the path reliably. It does not if you move them in Windows Explorer but you say that is not what you did.
If you right click an image and select Properties,  you can see Used In. Is that blank?
Create a test project and create some folders and topics with images. Move things around and check it all works as it should.
    Post back how that goes.

  • Moving images between folders is SLOW

Moving images from one folder to another seems unusually slow, even if the folders are on the same hard drive.
Additionally, the thumbnails stay in the original folder until I restart LR. I vaguely recall something that caused the thumbnails to update very slowly, but right now I find it's quicker to just quit LR and restart it.
Special circumstances that might be contributing to the problem -
    Source Folder -
18 GB of images from a wedding shoot. 6 multi GB cards, each with a few subfolders of their own.
I'm trying to move about 500 images at a time.
    Destination Folders -
Nothing special there other than trying to get the 500 images into them in one move.

    Turn on curmudgeon switch -
No, I won't find it is slow because LR is checking files and making sure all is okay. Other than a slowly moving progress bar, I have no idea what it is doing. There is only a hint of something being checked is that sometimes the progress bar moves slowly for about 1/3 of the length and then relatively quickly the rest of the way, which is when I hear the hard drive becoming more active. (Maybe that's the checking / moving phases.)
    Turn off curmudgeon switch -
Now it makes sense that LR needs to make sure that a file of the same name does not exist in the destination folder. Maybe it needs to check database integrity in some way while moving the files. Maybe the undo-ability of the process causes need for special care.
My guess is that some of the database code for whatever it is doing is written poorly.
And there is still the problem that the thumbnails do not get refreshed. They are still visible in the old folder. How do I work around that?

  • Zoom for Closeup in Moving Image?

Okay, what I am asking is probably impossible, at least in iMovie 3.0.3 which I am currently using, but I'd like to ask anyway and learn "how" impossible.
Say I have a moving (video) image (in iMovie) showing several people, and I want to have just one be the focus but retain it as a moving image only make it into a closeup instead of a group image.
I know in the "old days" this was perfectly possible with a device called a "film enlarger." But these aren't the old days and this isn't film, so:
    1. Is this now way easier, by selecting an image and manipulating by cropping the edges with little grabby-handles I just haven't been able to find? Or
    2. Is what I am asking out of the question and utterly impossible?
    3. Is it impossible in iMovie 3.0.3 but possible in some other version, and, if so, how highly-numbered a version would I need to make it possible?
    Just figured I'd ask, thanks.

A video file only has so many pixels. Trying to zoom will reduce the number of pixels, giving you a blurry image.
There are plug-ins for this, but don't expect too much:

  • Moving images from one libray to a second library

    Hi all,
There must be someone on here who can help.
When you open iPhoto if you hold the alt key at the same time you can create or open different iPhoto libraries on your mac.
So how do you move some of the images in one library to a second library????

You can also create a new library, export the pictures you want in the new library out of the old library to a folder. Open the new library and import the pictures.
    Or the method I like:
    _Duplicate your entire iPhoto Library
_Open 1 library and delete everything you don't want
_Open the other library and delete everything you don't want
    _Done!

  • Moving Images Inside of Stack (not using context menu)

I have not had success moving images around in an expanded stack using the drag-and-drop functionality of the mouse. When I do try to drag an image within the stack, I get an outline of an image but when I try to drop to a new location within the stack, nothing happens.
Using the context menu to re-order a bunch of images is impractical.
    What am I doing wrong?

I don't believe you are doing anything wrong. It appears the only thing you can do by mouse to a expanded stack, besides close it to the stack, is click the white box with the, i.e. [4 of 10] to make that image the top image.
