Moving iMovie projects to another disk

On my desktop, a warning box appeared telling me that the start-up disc is almost full.
Disk Utility confirms that on the 560 GB capacity disk, there is only 1 GB space available.
In iMovie on that same disk, there are several dozen movie projects.
I would like to move most of these projects to another disk in the MacPro (there are three other disks), but still want to work on the iMovie projects on the start-up disk.
Is there a way of storing the files on another disk, and still working on the projects on the start-up disk?
Thank you in advance, Isshi.

You can store Projects and/or Events on an external or secondary disk. The disk must be formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

I want to import one imovie project into another one.  In other words, I have created a short sequence in iMovie 11 on one computer, and I want to import it into a project that I am working on, on another computer.  I copied the project files onto a hard drive, and then connected that drive to the Mac that my main project is on, but when I select "import" the files are faint gray -meaning I can't select them.  Help!  I want to transfer a sequence of shots from one iMovie 11 project on one computer, into another iMovie 11 project on another computer.

    Tell me it ain't so!
I wish I could.  The research you've done is correct.
Wether you copy and paste or rebuild the Project from the other computer, you're going to need to get your Evnets copied from the other computer.
The Prjoject files only contain pointer back to the original media.

  • How can I hardwire transfer an iMovie project to another iPad

Using a hardwire connection (and not iCloud or Airdrop) is there a way to transfer an iPad iMovie project directly from one iPad to another iPad so that the editing can continue on the second iPad?
I can't use any wireless or bluetooth connection and I don't want to go through my laptop iTunes app as a middle man. How can I marry those two iPads and get that iMovie Project from one to the other without a wireless connection.
    Thanks Steve

There is no way to connect two iPads to each other through a cable. Everything would have to be wireless or you would have to use iTunes to move data around.
What you wish to do is not possible.

  • Moving imovie project to a windows pc to burn to dvd

Hi iv been looking all over the place my question is how do i move an imovie project to a windows pc so i can use nero or something on the pc to burn the project to a dvd that can be watched with a dvd player the reason is i have no super drive
    please help!!!!!!!!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

...because in imovie format you cant select it..
my guess was, because your harddrive is "crowded" usually, any project saved into the movies-folder on your internal drive, should be available via iDVD... (??)
.. Plan B): create a new iDVDproject, and drag'n drop your iMproject (icon has a black star on it) into the iDVD window...
then, choose in iDVD "create image"; that creates a "digital, virtual" copy of your final disk => "mydvd.img",... following the advices I posted above, you can use any window app to burn from that a videoDVD, compatible with all standalone DVDplayers/PC/Mac dvd-player-apps PLUS all shinin' blinkblink of an iDVD-production.

  • Moving imovie projects to external hard drive

To save space on my hard drive, I moved all my imovie projects to an external hard drive and then deleted them on my laptop. When I tried to import them again, imovie did not recognize them - they were grayed out and not importable. What did I do wrong? Is it possible that I needed to move all the event clips together with the projects?
I need to figure out how to remove movie material to keep memory open, but am not clear how to do it. . . What do the experts do about this?

Let's assume you have raw MP4 clips in an event.
You start a project and select portions of the clips to be in the project. You add titles, music, etc.
Then you Share/Using QuickTime in MP4 format. At this point, the movie is rendered by using the Project file as a roadmap to go our and get the right clips from the Event files, add the titles, add the music etc. and produce a single MP4 movie that you can play.
You may get better results if you use a variant of MP4 called h.264.
You can also adjust the color of the movie using the video adjustments. Also, if your raw material is MP4, you should realize that this is a highly compressed format. You may get better results if you use a free app like MPEG Streamclip to convert the MP4 file into Apple Intermediate Codec, then import this into iMovie. Then you create your movie as always. Then you can share it as an MP$ (h.264).
The MP4 codec has one full frame for every 24 or so frames. The rest of the frames contain information about what has changed from the prior frame, so iMovie must resolve and compute what all the frames are as it is adding the titles, adding music etc at render time - then reconverting to mp4.
If you convert it to Apple Intermediate Codec, every frame is converted to a full frame.
If your source material is low resolution, editing in MP4 is fine. But is your source material is high definition, you will definitely get better results by converting to full frames before editing.
That probably isn't very clear, but come back with additional questions if you like.

  • Moving iMovie projects to External

After following all of the threads and instructions on moving or copying an imovie project  I am still unable to do so.  When dragging a project (command key or not) from the project library to any of my 5 external HDs (All of which are properly fomatted)  the option to copy is not available.  That is the cursor does not change when hovered over drive icon and when released just bounces back to project library.  Any idea on why this might not be available.  I am a long time mac user and can follow the various versions of the instructions provided in the help file as well as the variations found here in the support forum.  Any ideas on what might be causing this problem?  I really need to move a project and its incredibly frustrating that such a simple process does not work

  • Moving iMovie Projects to an external drive

I cannot move iMovie projects to an external drive. I have followed the instructions. Help!

If it doesn't recognize the drag, then there is something else awry. You should be able to force a move instead of a copy by holding down the cmd key. Can you just plain copy?
If the destination does not become highlighted, the OS doesn't think it can accept the item for some reason.

  • How did I replace all footage from one imovie project with another

I have three projects in my project library A, B and C. While editing B I somehow accidentally copied all my clips from project B into project A, erased all project A footage while the title remained the same. I want my project A footage back and can't find it. Time machine wasn't set up at the time (I thought it was automatically already going from the day I purchased it). Undo functions only go back once. Three people at Apple have no answer, saying that you can't transfer contents from one project library piece to another while still in the project library part of the screen. I'm sick if it's lost because it took forever to edit, but I want to figure out what I did so I don't accidentally do it again. If I didn't transfer from project to project, how did a copy of B get into my A file and erase its contents?
Project A seems gone, as the orange lines in the event library clips indicating which parts have been used are also gone.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide /Users/ as the path, drag one account's home folder to the other's desktop, and move the items inside it to the desired locations.

  • Moving FCP Projects to another Mac

I just purchased a new MacPro and want to move my projects from my 2.7 G5 to my new MacPro. How best is this done? I know files from the project may or may not be in many folders.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Sky........

Move the project files from one computer to the other...via a small hard drive, flash drive...or connect the two via Ethernet and network them.
Where is your media stored? It SHOULD be all stored on one drive, and I mean everything. Captured footage, audio files, picture files...all on one drive. If it is an external drive, simply moving it from one machine to the other works.
If you have it all on your system drive...first off...shame. Second off, GET AN EXTERNAL DRIVE NOW. Then you can use the Media Manager to move the footage from the main drive to the external.

  • Importing iMovie project into another iMovie project

Due to some problems experienced, I had to import video clips from my DV camera into two separate projects.
However, I would like to edit my video clips together as it was intended to be one continuos video after being edited.
When I open the first project and try to import the other project into it, I get a message saying:
    Error during import
The file could not be imported: The file "_" can't be imported; QuickTime couldn't parse it: -43
As I am on a deadline, I would really appreciate any input.
    Thank you

I'm getting the same problem and I've even tried cutting and pasting the clips to a new drive. Opening up a new project and then importing the clips into the new project. It tells me that it is preparing the clip for import and then nothing happens. Imovie hd goes into non responsive mode, I have to force quit cuz it hands up for about 20 minutes... then when I try to open the new project, the clip I was trying to import is listed as being in the trash. if pull it into the timeline half of it will be there but the other half won't.. This has only just started to happen. I've been able to do it successfully two days before. Any ideas?

  • Moving iMovie projects between iPhone and iPad?

I will be travelling overseas soon and want to film video using my iPhone (4s) and then edit using my iPad using iMovie. Is there a simple way to move video projects directly between devices as I will not have access to my PC and my iTunes account on the PC? I have searched forums but I'm getting mixed messages. Can iCloud be used? thx - BV

    Please elaborate - share what?
    Just guessing here...
Any sharing is probably a result of being logged in with the same Apple ID on both devices.

  • Moving system partitions to another disk

Hi. I bought SSD few days ago. I decided to copy my current partitions with Arch and Win7 to this new disk. I followed this article: http://www.nilbus.com/linux/disk-copy.php. And I have two problems.
First of all - I have now more space for system, so I set in cfdisk 40GB for each Arch and Win7. I copied partitions with ntfsclone and ddrescue. What see df?
    rootfs 33G 28G 2,9G 91% /
This is size of my old partition. And what see gparted?
    size: 37.34GiB used: 32.82GiB free: 4.53GiB
How can I resize this partition to take all this place?
The other problem is much more frustrating - Windows doesn't boot after I choose it in Grub .

ciembor wrote:How can I resize this partition to take all this place?
Resize partition with gparted (or sfdisk or other tool) and resize filesystem with resize2fs (for ext2/3/4). Make sure you have backup.

  • How do I burn my iMovie Project to a disk?

When I have tried burning to a disk I get this message.
Even when a disk is in the slot.
It is a DVD+R Memorex with 4.7 GB so I am not sure what the problem is.
    Please help.
    Thanks

    Hi
There are many things reg. this.
    What do You want ?
    • Data-DVD with a movie file on it (only to be played on a computer)
    • Video-DVD to be played on standard DVD-Players
    If last one then
    • You need a Video-DVD encoding and structuring program as iDVD or alike (a must)
    • Memorex is a known problem when doing Video-DVDs
    • DVD+R only plays on newer DVD-Players
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
    And I only use
    • Verbatim ( more organic dye in them)
    • DVD-R as they play on more and even older DVD-Players
    • Set down burn speed to x2 (less burn errors)
    • free space more than 25Gb on Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk
    • Save as a DiskImage - First to see that all plays OK befor burning any DVDs

  • How to move iMovie project from one computer to another

I have been working on an iMovie 09 project on my desktop at home.
Now I want to work on the same project on my computer at work.
How can I move the project from one computer to another?   What I've already tried was to make a duplicate copy of the project and then use a thumb drive to move that to another computer.   It didn't work.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello James Snedeker,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to move a file to another disk. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
iMovie: How to Save Projects to Another Hard Disk
To copy an iMovie project to another disk:
    1. Quit iMovie if it is open.
    2. Locate the project folder in the Finder.
    3. Drag the project folder to the other disk.
Note: You must move the complete project folder, intact, to the other disk in order to successfully copy the project. The project folder has the same name as the project listed in the iMovie window. This folder includes the iMovie project file, as well as a Media folder, which contains all of the clips associated with this project. If you don't copy all of these items, the project may no longer be readable in iMovie.
Once you have copied the project, try opening it in iMovie to ensure that it copied to the other disk successfully.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario
