I have my child setup as a separate user on my IMAC. I keep the itunes library's separate for
parental control. How do I import an individual song from his library to mine?

Drag the song from iTunes to the /Users/Shared/ folder, log in with your account, and drag it into the open iTunes window.

i am trying to put 13 songs onto a old ipod nano (when it was only silver).it is my old one and i am trying to put songs on so that my dad can listen from the ipod. these songs were in another users itunes. there are 3 users. i took 13 songs from one and trying to put it into another so i dont have to buy them again. now i just looked at the disc and it is a blank dvd disk. could that have something to do with it not being able to transfer correctly?

I recently purged my iPhone 4S of most of its music because I didn't have enough gigabytes of free space to download the latest iOS (my phone was actually completely full). That ticked me off but I didn't have time for a backup. I transferred all purchases to my library and I deleted the music from my phone.
Since then, I've been annoyed that I don't have all my music but I've been enjoying the free space that I have, so I prefer to restore songs from my library individually now, depending what I'm in the mood to hear, and I don't miss having a full phone.
However, whenever I try to manually sync music that was ripped from a CD, music I didn't download from iTunes, but is playable in my iTunes library, iTunes thinks it has to download the entire library, which I don't even have the space for, anyway. However, my iPhone seems fine wirelessly (I have Home Sharing turned on) syncing individual songs which were purchased in the iTunes store.
So whenever I try to sync a single song, or an album perhaps, which was not purchased on iTunes, I get the message "updating files on iphone" and it says it's copying all the thousands of songs in my entire library. But my settings are for manual sync only. I wind up cancelling the sync every time, because I would have to wait for it to finish copying thousands of songs before it got to the one I selected. Why on earth is it doing this?
How do I regain the ability to sync a single song at a time?

I have 60 000 songs on a hard drive. The songs are referenced to the media file and not stored in the media file. I have moved the songs to another external drive. The itunes library has lost the link to the media files. How can I restore the links?

I have all my songs (60 000) on a remote drive. The drive is wireless networked. I installed a new router and had to map the drive again. Once this was done itunes could no longer locate the music. My music is not sitting in my media file but is rather referenced to the location of the music. Now that the location has changed due to the remapped drive how can I link the itunes library to the songs (media)again.
I have read many help comments and forums but so far nothing specific about relinking once the songs have already been moved and are referenced songs.
A step by step procedure would be helpful.

I've uploaded a newer version that might catch that error. For some background on the script look at this thread.
iTunes remembers the location of each file in the database. If you right-click on a missing file, click Get Info, cancel when it asks you to try to find it, then look on the summary tab it will show you the last known location in the form file://localhost/<some path>. If you put the files back where they are expected to be, close iTunes and reopen, then iTunes will find them again. If not my script can attempt the task. When the script asks for a media folder you should respond with Z:\ since that seems to be where the artist folders are located.

We have different "Users" on our PC. I can only get iTunes Match to upload the songs from my files. I have tried logging into our computer as my husband using his User i.d., but Match just says all of my songs are already uploaded. Anyway to get the songs from my hubby's files??

No. iTunes Match does not support being active in multiple User Accounts on the same computer.

Running iTunes as another user - iTunes window keeps popping up

My missus and I have one iPod and want to just use one library on iTunes (hers). Therefore when I want to use iTunes, I run it under her user credentials ("Run as" option in Windows XP).
This loads her library & settings no problem, but the iTunes window pops to the front every 30 seconds, even when minimised to the system tray. Obviously this totally interrupts what I am doing on the PC.
I believe this has only started happening since iTunes was updated to 9.0.2.25. Note - this symptom doesn't happen if I run iTunes under my own credentials, or if the missus is logged on it doesn't happen to her. Both PC accounts are full administrators.

Moving individual songs from Windows XP box to my new MacBook

What is the best way to move selected songs from my iTunes Music Library on my XP box to my new MacBook so I get all the Name, Artist, Album and Genre information coming over? Yes, I have authorized my new MacBook as one of the 5 eligible computers on the account. I'd prefer USB memory stick procedure, but I can also burn CDs on my XP but not DVDs.

How do I save my tapes so that itunes will recognize individual songs?

I want to save old cassette tapes to digital media and I want to be able to find individual songs, tracks of an album or tape. How do I do this? Or, am I left with the material "saved" but lumped together as one file and virually impossible to retrieve any particular song?

Use something like Audacity to record the individual songs, add them to iTunes then tag them as part of the same album.

Songs will play in iTunes but not play on iPod!

This is very weird. I have 44 songs that are not working right.
A few months ago I moved my music files to one central location on my computer (aside from iTunes). I wanted to get rid of duplicates and songs I just didn't want and more importantly I wanted to make sure the names were all correct.
Oddly enough the songs in questions I did not have to change.
I synced my new iPod to my iTunes. I played a few songs and when it got to 1 of the 44 it just skipped over it. I thought this was weird so I went through artists and found the song that way, I selected it again and it wouldn't play.
I tired playing the song in iTunes - the song played.
I found it on my computer - the song played in Windows Media Player.
Before I did all of this, on my old iPod - the song played.
In fact all 44 of the songs used to play and everything was fine. (I use my old iPod for my car and my new one for jogging, but I don't want to sync my new one until I solve the problem I just don't want to risk losing the songs)
So I looked in the iTunes files - there is a file known as "Not Added" within the "Automatically Added" File. The songs in question were in that file. Which is weird because I never had this problem before...I didn't change anything about these songs.
I took one of the songs out of the "Not Added" file and I put it in the Automatically Added file and it seemed to add it. I tried syncing againbut the song would still not play.
I tried moving the song directly to the iTunes "Music" File. It made its own file with the artist and all - it hadn't been there before. So I tried syncing again but it still wouldn't play.
Yes - I have plenty of room on my iPod
Yes - I have tried restoring my iPod
No - There is not a little explanation point next to the song - The song is located and it plays in iTunes just fine.
I am at a loss. Someone please help me!

Select the track that is giving you a problem, then go to Advanced menu and select "Create AAC". Then try using that new AAC track on the ipod and see if it works.
I had some tracks that I had gotten onto my system from a CD. It ended up that my CD drive as on its last legs and had captured the tracks with some errors.iTunes was able to play through these errors, but my iPod was not. Having iTunes re-transcode them fixed the problem that kept them from playing on the iPod. Another solution would be to re-rip the tracks from your original CD. If you bought them on iTunes, re-download them.
The bottom line is that the tracks likely have some errors in them that iTunes can play through, but the iPod cannot.

when I create a link on my blog to a song in itunes with link maker, it links to the album, not the individual song I want

In the iTunes Store, you can right-click on an album and get a "Copy Link" menu item, but you cannot do that with an individual track.

Normally, if the songs showed that it is purchased then it is probably already in your library. If not check out the article below to walk you through downloading your past purchases. You may also want to check to see if you have Automatic Downloads turned on so that way next time you can get your tracks without having to plug in and sync.

copy the songs that you downloaded as admin and put it somewhere you can access it from you're preferred account (usb stick / cd / shared folder / external hard drive) log into with you preferred user account and drag and drop the files on top of the itunes icon and they will be imported.
if you have a second computer you could use home sharing to move the music from admin itunes to the second computer and from the second computer to the preferred itununes
ps you can only connect 5 computers to you're itunes account so don't forget to de-autorise when you no-longer wand it.
