Moving iPhone backup folder to different computer

I would like to sync my iPhone 4 to my MacPro tower rather than sync it to my MacBook Pro. I was wondering if its as simple as just putting the users>my account> Library> Mobile Sync folder onto my MacPro Tower. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

It is not that simple and there is no need or reason to transfer the iPhone's backup from one computer to another that you now use to sync your iPhone with.
You can manually create a backup with iTunes without syncing - with your iPhone connected and without syncing, control-click on your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back up. iTunes creates a backup for each iPhone or iOS device that is synced with iTunes which is updated automatically as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
What you need to transfer is your iTunes library from your MBP to your MacPro Tower. Copy the iTunes named folder in your Music folder on your MBP and with iTunes quit on your MacPro Tower, place the iTunes folder in your Music folder. This will replace the existing iTunes folder in your Music folder and your existing iTunes library on your MacPro Tower. Your MacPro Tower also needs to be authorized with the same iTunes account as your MBP.
If you have some content in your iTunes library on the MacPro Tower that you don't want to lose, you can selective export music, movies, tv shows from your iTunes library on your MBP for import with your iTunes library on your MacPro Tower.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only including 3rd party apps. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If you don't transfer your entire iTunes library from your MBP - the iTunes named folder, all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your MacPro Tower.

  • Moving iPhone backup to a new computer

I want to move all my iTunes data from my old laptop to my new laptop. As I understand it, I can copy the 'iTunes' folder from the old computer to an external hard drive and replace the 'iTunes' folder on the new computer with it. Is this correct?
However, I am told this does not copy the iPhone backup over. I found a thread which showed where the backup is stored on the computer (C:/users>name>AppData>Roaming) and said you have to copy this folder over to the new computer. I want to know which specific folder you need to copy over. Is it the 'Roaming' folder, the 'Apple Computer' folder, or something within the 'Apple Computer' folder? I am running Windows 7 if it helps.
Also, I tried copying the 'Apple Computer' folder and it said it would take 9 hours 30 minutes, which doesn't seem right to me. The file is 11.5GB?
Sorry if this is answered somewhere before, but I have searched and I can't find a clear explanation of how to do this using an external hard drive so that absolutely nothing is lost in the process.
    Thanks in advance

    Dear,
My brother gifted me iphone-4 which was in his use, he has no music, videos even not much photos. But he has much contacts and messages also messages on viber.
I made backup by iTune and also copied the backup folder from mobilesync from my computer.
If i email him this backup folder or on flash drive, Can he restore on his new iphone-4 or iphone-5. the backup is just only about 256MB.
please advice me in this regard that the itune backup include contacts & messages and can be restored on new mobile with another computer.
    Thanks.

how can I see my iphone backup to my hp computer - I want to actually see some of the files on the backup to be sure it actually worked

You can't see them as such.  The entire backup is stored as a database, sql file.  You can find the backup file here:
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and clickOK.
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press theReturn key.
You will need an sql reader to view the contents,

  • I cannot find corrupt iPhone backup file on my computer to delete it.

I have an iPhone 5s. It backed up to my computer (Mac) just fine until I got a new computer. I loaded all my backed up files onto the new computer (also a mac), from my airport extreme computer backup (also a mac product) and the next time I went to backup my iphone, it clearly says in the itunes window (where it would usually tell you your last backup date) that this phone had NEVER been backed up up on this computer. That would be fine with me and I would gladly create a new backup from what was on my phone currently except....When I click the backup button, it gives me the "could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone. Delete the back up for this iphone, then try again" error message. I have followed every instruction of how to go about deleting these backups. I deleted every iPhone related backup through iTunes. Then I tried to find the files on the computer's hard drive outside of iTunes, but I swear there is no MobileSync folder on my computer. At least it's not at the path that is always given in every suggested solution.
I did create a separate user account (on the same computer) and was able to backup my phone through that. I don't know what that means, if anything, but I'd like my iphone to work with MY user account...
I've had a really difficult time finding the answer to this question online, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

i have figured it out, what you have to do is to restore your phone back to factory settings:
http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yBBiMy3Y6Q - youtube video to show you how incase you dont know
and then set up your phone as a NEW IPHONE instead of using iCloud
then plug it into iTunes - then i clicked on the iCloud thing to restore my new phone,   and it should work, mine does hope this helps

  • Access Time Machine Backup from a different computer

    Hi everyone,
I have recently had to put my Macbook in for repair and have been told it will be about a month before I get it back. My wife has a Macbook of her own, so I using that for the time being to continue working on my MA essays due in the next two weeks. My problem is that I dutifully did a complete backup of my files through Time Machine before sending my own Macbook away, only to find I cannot access the files on my wife's computer!
I realise this is completely my fault, but the files in the Time Machine backup represent months of work and I desperately need access to them! I have tried accessing the backups via Time Machine, and when this failed I went through Finder to the Backup folder on my external hard drive, only to find a little no entry sign next to the relevant folders. When I try to open them I get told I 'do not have sufficient access privileges'. Is there ANY way around this? I am desperate!

You should post this with something to do with "Access privileges" in the title so the right people read it - those who don't use Time Machine probably won't bother with this thread. You were right to try a direct-access route through the Finder, because you can drag Time Machine files directly when you need to. I don't know enough about permissions to help you with the permission thing; it might be as simple as setting up an account on your wife's machine that has the same username and password as your own machine.
But note (in regard to the Jeremy's post) that if you do get a new logic board - yes, he's right, you'll have a different MAC address, which means you can't continue on with your TM backups. But you can't change the MAC address on the logic board; instead, there's a nice, geeky way to change the Time Machine backups record of what MAC address they were married to. • Deleting Old Corrupt iPhone Backup Folder - Which One Do I Delete

I am getting the message "iTunes can not backup the iPhone, because the backup was corrupt, or not compatible with the iPhone" whenever i try to backup my iPhone 5s. I have been getting this message since around the end of May 2014 after updating my iOS to 7.1.2.
I have seen a couple of posts about how to go about deleting an old backup already. After some time, I figured out where to locate the iPhone backups in their original location, because they did not show up in my devices tab through iTunes. I have already located the files under:
    /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
So I did manage to get this far, but now I have come across a handful of folders that are full of files, all named with a bunch of alphanumeric characters. There are some backups of devices that I do not need to delete, that I don't have physical access to some of the devices at the moment to just delete all of the backup folders and re-backup afterwards.
My main question is, "How can I tell which backup corresponds to the iPhone having trouble, so I do not delete another backup that I do not wish to lose?"
If it helps, I am on a Macbook Pro, running OS X Mavericks, and iTunes 11.3.1 (2).
Please help ASAP, and THANK YOU in advance!!

First, if you don't have iExplorer yet, you should download it here. Then install it. After installing it open the iExplorer. It is not necessary to plug your device in. Then click the "Browse Local iTunes Backups".
After clicking it, go to the "Browse iTunes Backup" directory. It will show you the list of backup folders on your computer with a readable folder name i.e. the names of each devices that has backup files on your computer. From there you can now identify which backup folder is yours.

  • How do I find a corrupted file in a backup folder on my computer?

I have recently had to replace the battery in my iphone, but before doing so, I had backed up the phone about 3 times, all saying they were successful.  And then I had erased the phone(before I realised the battery was the problem).  However when I went back to restore from the backup, it says that it cannot be restored because the backup is corrupt.  I read on one site that sometimes if a phone turns off or disconnects while backing, it might cause a corrupt file, and I think that's exactly what my phone did due to the battery issues.  The big question is, is it only specific files inside the backup folder that are corrupt?  And how do I find out which files they are?  Please help.

    Hi
This can be an issue on other end ( server end ) as export to HTML works fine so Muse is exporting the files correctly but while exporting to external server if it stuck then we should check on server side if there is any problem related to specific file upload.
As a workaround, you can use any FTP client and then upload the exported html files to root location.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Moving TM backup folder

I need to move the TM backup folder to another partition of the same external HD, but I've 2 problems:
    1) does TM recognize the folder after moving and setting in preferences, or it'll create a new one ignoring it?
    2) when I try to create the new partition on the disc (500Gb), Disc Utility ends the process, telling me that there's not enough space. The new partition il 120Gb, the free space is 148Gb, how is it possible?
    Thanks in advance

  • Cannot drag/drop music from iTunes onto iPhone (synced with a different computer)

I have a library of music already on my iPhone that was synced with another computer. I am working on a different computer and bought some music that I thought I could just drag and drop into my iphone from iTunes. I have read that you need to check manually manage music but when I do that it says it will erase everything on my phone. I don't want to do that because I have music on my phone that isn't in the library I'm using. Is there anything else I can do?

you iphone does not work like a regular ipod, where you can drag and drop music, you must sync it with itunes. plug it into your computer, click on the icon that is labeled iphone. when you do this there is a section on the top that says music. click on that, then you can select playlists and artists, etc. then click apply. it should work then

  • Where is my iphone's backup folder on my computer?

I once had a problem with my iphone and I backed it up on my computer.
Now I am trying to find one of the notes I had backed up but I can's find the folder!!!

I followed the link Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\, I reached 2 folders: one is empty and the other contains almost 5000 files with strange names like: 00b197bb1519818b8d68cbe420b52ddcfce0604b
Not sure how to open any of those files

  • Why doesn't the info about moving iphone sysnc to a new computer work?

I read through these discussions.  I synced and backed up my iphone 4S on my ancient macbook pro that I was using when i synched the original iphone with and I have stuck with it for all these years because of the horrible way that Apple makes us migrate and was totally concerned about losing everything.  Well with the 5S and I have the new MB Pro with 16 GB ram and 740 GB SSD drive and retina I just wanted to finally get away from the ancient MB Pro.   found the mobile sync folder on the original MB Pro, i copied it to an external HD, transfered it to the new MB pro into the same folder which of course does not have a mobile sync folder but I copied it in to the enclosing folder.  I copied the entire itunes library and put it in the same named folder.  Then tried to sync and wanted to restore from the iphone back up and naturally the itunes software does not recognize its existence and Apple did not have the foresight to include a way to llow me to navigate and try to locate the folder.  So, after 5 hours of working at trying to get this done I had to give up and finish setting up the iphone without any of my old info.
Now, that the problem is set up - how do I go about getting all the info from the original 4S to the new 5S without retyping all the info or am i supposed to carry both iphones around from now one - one with the info I need and the other because it is new and shiny?
    Ideas appreciated.
    Thanks
    George

  • Download aps when moving iPhone (iTunes) to a new computer?

I'm just finishing backing everything up from my old computer to an external drive (my iiTunes folder, all my apps etc.). When I reinstall iTunes on the new computer and plug in the iPhone will I have to re-download ALL the apps or will it see the ones from my old computer if I put them in the right place? AND how, and it what order, do I do all that?
I've looked all through support and haven't found anything about how to plug your iPhone into the new computer and it works perfectly without downloading all the apps. It looks like it erases the phone and doesn't use the backup, but hopefully I'm wrong.

Remember to deauthorize your old computer before you quit using it.
When you set up your new computer be sure to authorize it and log into the iTunes Store with the AppleID you used to purchase all the apps. When you connect your iPhone you should be OK, if it does want to Restore it, select Restore from backup.

  • How do I sync my iPhone 4s with a different computer other than the original one that I used initally?

How do I change computers for syncing my iPhone 4s?  The original laptop that I used to sync with died and I can not get my iPhone to sync with my desktop.

can't if you do not have access to the old library (the usual workaround is to backup the old library and import it to the new itunes)
    for important data...
sync your existing contacts with icloud, your text messages will not be disrupted, music will sync with whatever music you have on your new itunes, photos shoud still be in the camera roll (I would sync them to photostream before you sync, just in case).   Any photos on your phone that are not in camera roll or photostream... if you lost those pictures with the computer crash I would take screen shots (lock button + home button at the same time) of each photo so they show up in the camera roll.  App data may or may not be lost.  In my experience, it depends on the app.  Some of the apps recognize your apple ID and sync data over the internet with servers, some do not.  I would take note of important data (such as passwords in a password keeper if you have such an app) just in case if you lose that data.
