Moving iPhone from Mac to PC

Hello there,
I hope you can help me!
I want to move my iphone from my very old macbook to my pc, the slight complication is that I want to merge my mac itunes library with my pc itunes library.  So far I have moved all of my stuff from my mac to my pc using Home Sharing in itunes.  I have located the iphone backup on my mac and have trnsferred it to the correct folder on my pc.
My question is: Is that sufficient to now sync my iphone with my pc?  I am not particularly worried about the music, videos, etc but the contacts and settings on the iphone.  I can re-add the small amount of music another time. Is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks in advance for your help!
MrsHazy

It's not a problem. The iphone really does not care what computer it is connected to. Also, you can log into your itunes account from any computer that has itunes on it.
You need to move your library to your new computer.
This article will help
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Then once your library is moved, find one of your purchased songs and try to play. It will ask you to authorize this computer. Click yes and it will ask you for your account name and password. You can have up to 5 computers authorized at one time.
If you want to de-authorize your old computer, click on store at the top of itunes can click de-authorize. It will ask you for your account name and password.

  • Manually add some photos to iPhone from mac

    Hi all,
Now I want to manually add some photos to iPhone from mac (no iTunes syncing) just drag from mac to iphone
Q: how do I do this? Is there way to use image capture app in reverse (send to iPhone from mac) ?

You can't just drag the photos or use Image Capture in reverse. I do it using iTunes but there are other methods such as PhotoStream or using a 3rd party app such as http://www.photosync-app.com

  • HT1373 I want to add audiobook to iPhone from Mac Computer

I want to add a audiobook to iPhone from Mac Computer, how do I do this?

    Hi,
Add audiobook to iTunes library if you have not already done so. Sync your iPhone with your mac by wifi or USB.

  • Iphone from mac to pc

I am giving my girlfriend my iphone. I have only used it with my mac, she has a pc. It isn't important to keep any contacts, calendars or music etc (keeping the apps would be nice). Is it just a case of connecting it to the pc and syncing it as a new iphone so it restores to factory settings?

Restoring an iPhone with iTunes completely erases the iPhone first followed by the firmware being re-installed. After the firmware is re-installed, you are prompted to restore the iPhone from the iPhone's backup if one is available and if so, this will be the default selection. Or you can restore the iPhone as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup and she can start from there as a new iPhone transferring her iTunes content, etc. to the iPhone.
3rd party apps - paid and free include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account used to purchase/download the apps. Your GF will need to download 3rd party apps with iTunes on her computer or with the iPhone using her iTunes account. 3rd party apps downloaded with one iTunes account cannot be shared with another iTunes account.

  • Moving over from Mac Mail to Mac Outlook 2011

Hi All - I am in the process of moving from Mac Mail to Mac Outlook 2011. Could anyone please advise how I disable Mac Mail. I want to keep all of the old emails there but just start using Outlook 2011. I would happy for any suggestions. I am a bit wary to start trying touring over all of the emails from Mail to Outlook, I think it would be a very long process.
Sending emails from Outlook is taking a bit of time at the moment, I'm wondering if it is to do with still having Mail sitting there.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Loner T
Thanks so much for your reply. I have taken all of the accounts offline. It does say that the messages are being stored on servers.
Do you know is it easy or laborious to export the mailbox? I have not done this before.
    Thanks

  • Why can I call my mac with iphone5 but can't call iphone from mac

I have Mountain Lion on my mac and an Iphone5. I can call my Mac from my iphone using my normal email. I cannot call my iphone from my Mac by going into to facetime and clicking on my own contact information using my cellphone. I went into the Mac and made sure that My apple id is displayed for login under preferences for Facetime on the Mac. I also checked to make sure that my cell phone number was checked off, along with my apple id, and my regular email.
I've gone into the iphone5 under settings-facetime- to make sure that the facetime is on. The apple id is correct. Under the you can be reached at: I checked the cell phone number and the apple id. The wii fi is on. If I go into facetime on Mac, I click on my name under contacts and click on the cell phone number, I can hear my ringtone start to ring and then I get the I'm not available icon. I've turned off Facetime and then turned it back on as others have tried.  I've shut down and restarted the iphone AND the Mac. I have turned this thing upside down and googled how other people have resolved this. I am stuck. The only other logical thing that I speculate is that the "1" infront of my cell phone number throwing that off. Somehow I don't think do. Can someone please help me?
    Thanks,
    Renee

Yes you can if you have a backup from before you installed Server. It takes a long time though.

  • Moving books from Mac to iPhone?

OK I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions onto my Mac and then bought a book (or a few) from eBook stores.
Then I downloaded OverDrive onto my iPhone.
So how do I get the books from Adobe Digital onto OverDrive?
I can seem to drag into iStore as they are in a format .acxm and there is no synching facility between Adobe Digital and OverDrive

I'd suggest using Bluefire Reader instead. (You could then transfer the ePubs into Bluefire Reader using iTunes).

copied last backup from laptop to correct folder location. C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync
I then transferred purchases from phone to PC
Question is, is this the right method, is next step to restore from backup? If I select sync applications in itunes iphone window, it wants to overwrite everything, lots of essential/non essential data in a variety of apps, don't want to lose.

How to Copy and Move (Clone) your iTunes Library from One Computer to Another – or Archive Prior to a PC Re-Image or Reformat
This well-written iLounge Article is a must-read for anyone considering moving their Library to a new computer or a new location. Or, just wants a better understanding of how iTunes manages your music.
Below is the conceptual framework with related and important links. Apply and adapt it to your specific situation and equipment resources.
The safest, quickest, and most optimal method to move your Library to a new computer is to actually clone the entire ‘iTunes’ folder (directory) structure, rather than just copying just the song files. By copying the entire ‘iTunes’ folder and all sub-folders, you capture not only the music files, but the all-important ‘iTunes Library.itl’ database file (usually located in the ‘iTunes’ folder), which contains all the data about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). See: What are the iTunes Library files?
Install iTunes on the new computer. Then go back to your old computer and move (copy) the "iTunes" folder which usually resides inside your "…\My Documents\My Music" folder from the old computer to the exact same place (both Drive Letter and complete Path) on the new computer. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will look and behave exactly the same way it did on the old, Play Counts, Ratings, Comments and all!
NOTE: It is usually safer moving files between computers with the same version of iTunes!!
iTunes Files to Copy and Move to your New PC (for iPod, iTouch &/or iPhone – use as needed)
    1) All Music Files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘iTunes Music’ folder)
    2) All Application Files in their current folder structure (usually located in the ‘Mobile Applications’ folder)
    3) All Album Artwork Files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘Album Artwork’ folder)
    4) The Library database file: ‘iTunes Library.itl’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    5) The Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    6) The iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genius.itdb files, also in the ‘iTunes’ folder
Some additional files to consider also include in a backup:
    7) Any XML playlist files created for Playlist retention
    8) The two iTunes.pref files (optional)
    i) C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    ii) C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
    9) The XML file of Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes saved from the main Library and created by Otto’s SaveRatings script (also optional, but recommended):
“Download this: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/SaveRatings.zip . It's a program, just run it like any other program. Run it on the machine where you're copying the info from BEFORE you move the files to the new machine. Click the "Save Ratings" button and it'll create a ratings.xml file. Now when you move the files, move the program and this file as well. Then after you make your new iTunes library, run it again and click the "Restore Ratings" button. Voila, all your information is back in the Library. Well, most of it anyway, it's not perfect. It'll tell you what songs it couldn't figure out though, and there's usually not very many.”
    10) The folder(s) used to store and sync photos to your iPhone (if applicable)
    11) The iTunes created Backup of your iPhone usually located at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Here's a list of methods to copy and move your music files from one computer to another:
    1) Use an External Hard Drive (ExHD) to move the complete files and Folder structures from one computer to another (my preferred option). You can clone’ the entire ‘iTunes’ folder structure in one very easy step. Also great to have available for complete backups of your Library. External hard drives now run less than $100 for 500GBs-1TB of storage. See This Link
    2) Directly connect the two computers:
2a) Connect them through a Router &/or Network
2b) Directly connect using an Ethernet cable: Straight for using at least one Mac; or Crossover for PC/PC Instructions here.
2c) Connect them via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. Example here. There are various types out there (use Google).
--Then copy the files from one computer to the other.
    3) Use the iPod as a transfer device, as this extensive Apple link explains. It will be a bit easier if your iPod has a larger capacity than your music collection, otherwise you will need to perform multiple copy/move transfers. This well written process also works fine while using any other data transfer medium (ExHD, Flash Drive, DVD, CD, Zipp, Jazz, etc.).
    4) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7GBs each) with your music data files and folder structure, and load them onto the new computer. Re-writable DVDs are more cost effective (if your DVD drive can manage these types).
    5) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #4 above and load the files and folders on the new computer. Re-writable CDs are more cost effective (if your CD drive can manage these types).
    6) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB - 4GB) to move the files and folders. Best if the flash drive is larger than your Library, otherwise you will need multiple copy/move transfers.
These are links to various additional instructions on performing the transfer (read them all, but some listed steps may not be required depending on your specific situation):
Switch from PC to Mac Using the iPod
hudgie: Migrating iTunes for Windows to a new PC

Also, remember to Deauthorize your PC before you reformat it, dispose of it, or retire it from iTMS use (if applicable).

  • Moving software from Mac to Windows

I took the easy way out & had Windows set up by the Apple retailer when the computer was purchased; however I now need to install new hardware in the Windows environment. When the CD containing the drivers, etc. is inserted, its icon is shown on Mac's desktop & it also appears in the Finder window. So far so good.
However, try as I might, I just cannot find the way to move these program files over to Windows, or have Windows open the .exe installation file, etc. (Ordinary files moved across to a Windows application, such as a spreadsheet, have never presented any problems!). It is a total block!
    Advice greatly appreciated.

    The answer to that is.......DESPERATION!
When I loaded the software/drivers CD, it came up with the install menu, reached the "copying electronic registration files - 98%", then froze with not the slightest trace of Windows. I tried what I could but that install screen came back to haunt me; it took half an hour of help from the Apple Support Team to restore things to normal functioning.
So I just wondered if there was another way around the installation problem? Alternatively, as I was trying to use the same hardware linked to both the Mac & a PC (it works on the latter &, if the manufacturer can be believed, should on the former) to which Apple expressed doubts, perhaps the simple solution would be to invest in a new Mac dedicated piece of hardware.

  • Tranferring contents of iPhone from Mac running osX to PC running Vista

I recently bought an iPhone3G and set up iTunes on it through my work MacBook. I am in the processing of leaving the company and so need to transfer my iTunes library from the MacBook over to my laptop that runs Vista. Reading the posts in here it doesnt seem to be possible as they are saying that the iPhone is set to run on Mac only but if there is a way then fab!! Any help would be gratefully received but in very simple terms as I am not at all technical!!!!

Best to transfer your iTunes library - the iTunes named folder which stores all iTunes data including music, video, podcasts, album artwork, playlists, play count, and 3rd party apps. On a Mac, the iTunes named folder is located in the Music folder. You will need an external drive or some other external media with enough storage capacity to store your iTunes folder, or the computers networked in some fashion for the transfer.
The iTunes folder on a PC is located in the Music or My Music folder, which is located in the Documents folder. With iTunes quit on the PC, place the iTunes folder from your Mac in the designated location on your PC. This should prevent any iTunes content from being deleted from your iPhone when syncing your iPhone with iTunes on the PC the first time.
You don't need to transfer your iPhone backup from one computer to another, which isn't a complete backup of your iPhone. With your iPhone connected to iTunes on the PC and without syncing, control-click on your iPhone in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up.
If you want any of the photos transferred from your Mac to your iPhone to remain on your iPhone, you need to transfer the photos from your Mac to your PC.
The iPhone supports syncing contact info and calendar events with Outlook 2003 or 2007. If you have either one available on the PC and Outlook does not include any data - no contact info and no calendar events, before syncing this data enter one unique contact in the address book and one unique calendar event in Outlook. Make this up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contacts and calendar events with Outlook, which you want to select.

  • ICal syncs with iPhone from Mac but won't sync Outlook events

    Hi,
I want to get all of my events from my Mac 2011 Outlook to sync through iCloud with iCal for my MacBook and iPhone. I've been able to get the events to show in iCal on my MacBook when I accept them from outlook, but they won't then sync with my iPhone unless I plug it into my computer? Is there any way to fix this? I also can't change any of the Outlook events once they're in iCal, I have to do so straight from outlook. The outlook events come in in their own calendar called "no category" that's grey. Any suggestions?

There is no such thing as a Mac or PC formatted iPhone. Follow the directions here if iTunes for Windows does not see the phone:

  • How to transfer digit booklet to my iPhone from Mac

I bought an album on my Mac, after syncing with iphone, all the stuff except my digit booklet are in there in my iPhone, What's wrong? I also tried right click the booklet then send to my iPhone, it still not there, I checked both my ibooks and music app.
    Hope someone can answer me.
    Roger

As you are using a Mac with Yosemite on it you should be able to drag the booklet from the Music part of your iTunes library into the iBooks app on your Mac, and when you connect your phone to your Mac's iTunes it should then show on its Books tab for selecting and syncing to the phone's iBooks app
