Moving iTunes from one PC to three MacBook Pros - how?

We started using Mac products because of the iPod. Each of our three family members in the household (dad, mom, and daughter) each created an iTunes account when we started; one for each iPod, however, we used dad’s Apple ID as the “master” account for iTunes. Anytime we purchased music we added it to the iTunes library using dad’s Apple ID. Back then, we were PC users and the PC held our iTunes library so it wasn’t a problem because we could each download music on to our own iPods from the master library with no problem. Today, all three of us have MacBook Pros and all have iPhones too.
Because we all each have our own Macs and we each have our “own” music we listen to from the master iTunes library account (dad’s) on our phones and iPods, how can we permanently move the music (and everything else like apps, pictures, etc.) on to each of our own MacBook Pros, yet still share the music (and stuff) with each other when we buy new music? The PC is dying and we have transitioned to each having our own Macs, yet we still want to share the music and stuff with each other when we buy new music or apps like before, yet we are not going to have a “master” iTunes library in a central computer?  When we updated our iPhones, we used the master iTunes library.
I know we can use Home Share in iTunes to share music but it is my understanding that you have to use the same Apple ID (account) on all shared computes and devices to stream music using the same Wi-Fi network.
We can transfer all the music from the master library on the PC using Home Sharing to our own iTunes library on the Macs – not a problem. Do I need to actually copy the iTunes Music Folder files too to the Macs or just transfer music with Home Sharing?
Problem:
When mom or daughter each tries to updates their phones will the iTunes library on their Macs be overridden when they try to update their iPhones using their own Apple ID in iTunes? Will they lose all their music (and stuff) on their machines to be overridden by their iPhone?
I know we may have initially set up the accounts incorrectly when we first started by having a master library but we didn’t know what we were doing (not like we have improved much since then, but that’s another conversation) and we definitely did not anticipate or foresee each of us owning our own MacBook Pros.
Is there a way we can make the transition without being penalized for being shortsighted when we started this several years ago? Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Choose Consolidate Library from the Advanced menu or the Library section of the File menu in iTunes, find the iTunes library location from the iTunes preferences, and move the folder to the new computer using any method necessary, such as an external drive, optical disks, or a network connection.

  • Moving itunes from old dell to new macbook pro

Can I use an SDHC card with reader to copy the itunes folder on my Dell and then move it onto my MacBook Pro? Or would a z-drive be a better choice? The whole folder is not quite 10GB.

Use whatever method (flash drive, SD card, external hard drive, network transfer) works for you, simply copy the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

Rather that lose all my purchased music and playlists i would like to swap it to another laptop. Can anyone advise if this will be possible and how to do it? Both laptops have windows XP installed

    Hi
I am having a similar problem- when I record from Itunes to a cd it only works in "Data cd" format in the advanced tab. That's okay, but when I re-insert the cd and try to import it, it doesn't show anything- it plays in Itunes okay. There aren't any little boxes to check for selecting any songs and if I try to use the import function, it shows as blank.(file type shows as .txt) I am using Itunes 6- would Itunes 7 help this?
thanks- I have a lot of music to transfer and this is a problem.

  • HT1386 How do you sync your itunes from the Iphone to the macbook pro?

How do you sync your itunes from the iphone to the macbook pro?
Let's say, I have an Iphone 3GS and it was synced to my older pc (I know...) and it crashed and I can't retrieve my files on there.  I want everything that I have on my 3Gs: photos, videos, music, notes, voice recordings, etc...  Now, I recently upgraded to 4Gs.  I can sync almost everything via icloud but there are files like photos, videos, other music that I cannot sync or for some weird reason it won't work over the cloud.  So I want to move all of those information to my macbook pro (upgraded from pc... yes!).  How do I move everything in my iphone backed up to my itunes in my mac book so that I can sync it to my new 4Gs?

I have a 3GS IPhone and have not been able to find Cloud on it anywhere (I was instructed to go to Settings, General, etc). I have also been told I should download update from I Tunes and have not been successful doing that either. I know my I Pad has the Cloud and I am wanting to sync the calendar from the phone to the pad. Any suggestions?

Moved iTunes library from one lap top to another, and some audiobooks were lost!

    Sorry to hear that.
    Do you have a question?
Copy the audiobooks from the old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to the new one.

  • Moving iTunes from one machine to another

    MY HARDWARE:
OLD:  Apple iMac G4 1.25 GHz  300 GB HDD
NOT SO OLD: Apple MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core2Duo   500 GB HDD
    MY MAC SOFTWARE
    IMAC: MacOS 10.4.11,  iTunes 9.02
MACBOOK PRO:  MacOS 10.6,  iTunes 10.6.1
For years, I've put this off, but my iMac is getting long in tooth and I thought I would post a question here.
I've used the iMac for a desktop workstation and family office file server since 2003. I've also used the iMac to run iTunes to feed an aging iPod. (ripping music from CDs, downloading video and audio podcast subscriptions and playing them on the iMac, etc.)
My goal is to eventually replace the iMac, but I want to shift all the iTunes responsibilities to my MacBook Pro now.
Is there a way to copy all the necessary files and folders over so that the MacBook Pro can pick up the music and podcast subscriptions without any hiccups or needs to re-establish links?
NOTE: to date, I have never bought any music or movies from the iTunes Store.
ALSO OF NOTE: I have backup copies of the Users folders on both machines on an external hard drive, if that helps.

Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
    Start iTunes.
That is all you need to do.

  • How to transfer my daughter's iTunes from her Vista laptop to MacBook Pro?

I am trying to transfer my daughter's iTunes from her Vista laptop to her new MacBook Pro and I cannot figure out why iTunes cannot find the songs.  Help??
Her old laptop runs Windows Vista and her MacBook Pro is running Leopard.....I copied the iTunes folder under My Music on the PC and then dropped in the Music folder under iTunes.  I can see the songs when we opened up iTunes but when you try and play the song, a message pops up saying iTunes cannot find the music file, and asks if I want to try and locate it.  I locate it and nothing happens.
I spent $100 at the Annapolis Apple Store so she could go in on her One-0n-One and have all of this done for her.  When she went in, they told her she could leave her laptop and macbook and it would take up to three days!!!!  That was unacceptable....they then told her she needed to transfer everything and then come in for the One-On-One and have any questions she had answered.  SO, I am trying to complete the transfers and everything worked like a charm until I tried to tackle the iTunes part.
Any help would be deeply appreciated!!

  • Moving files from External Hard Drive TO Macbook Pro

I just got my Macbook Pro and want to move some files from my external hard drive to my Mac but this message keeps pooping up: "There are some locked items in the Trash. Do you want to remove all the items, including the locked ones, or just the unlocked items?" and my options are "Stop" or "Continue". I selected "Continue" but the same dialogue appears with only the option "Okay" so when i click on it, nothing happens (i.e. nothing moves)
However, my trash is empty so i don't get what the "locked items" are.
Can someone please advise me on what to do?
Any help would be really appreciated.
If this helps, i have a macbook pro with retina display, 13-inch, Early 2015 (OS X Yosemite - Version 10.10.3)
    (3.1GHz Dual Core Intel Core i7, 16GB 1866MHz)

Have you tried reformatting the drive with Disk Utility?
If the external was formatted by windows, the it's likely in the wrong format.

  • Moving files from old emac to new MacBook Pro

Tomorrow we are supposed to receive our new 15" MacBook Pro w 4gb ram and 320 gb hard drive loaded with iWork. I have an older eMac 720 mh with files stored on it and to Lacie firewire external drives. Someone told me it was easy to move all files (or those I want to move) onto the new wireless MacBook Pro. Does the new computer offer this when you are setting it up or is there software to do this? Do I have to hook them together hardwired or simple connect the new laptop wirelessly to my home network (through my Belkin wireless router). I have an older hpDeskjet 5550 printer connected to my eMac, can I reasonably expect to be able to print through it using the wireless router and home LAN network? Networks and routers are a mistery to me but somehow have managed to install both. My Belkin N+ wireless router has a USB port on the back to facilitate network file storage and sharing has anyone tried this sucessfully?

If your files are backed up to an external drive then connect the drive to the new computer and transfer your files. Here's the basics of what you can transfer:
Folders You Can Move to Your new Mac
From the Home folder copy the contents of Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
    For FireFox:
    /Home/Library/Applications Support/FireFox
    /Home/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist

  • How do I transfer a rented movie on iTunes from my iMac to my MacBook Pro?

I got on my iMac today and rented a few movies thinking that iTunes would send them out to all my devices automatically. I have all the check boxes checked on all devices to download automatically. There are instructions for transfering from computer to a device but not how to do it from one computer to another.

    Hi Claire,
Rentals can be downloaded from a computer to a device, but not to another computer. Here is the Apple Support article on Movie Rentals FYI:

  • Moving photos from external hard drive to MacBook Pro

I recently bought a MacBook Pro (OS X Maverick) and am still learning how it differs from my old PC.  I have an external hard drive that I used with the PC with photos on it.  I am wondering if I can transfer photos from the drive to my Mac.  I am using Adobe  Elements 11 Organizer on the Mac.  I actually want to move the pictures on to the mac so I don't have to keep the hard drive with me.  Is that possible to do?

The MacBook Pro forum will be more useful, but yes you can, just drag and drop, not that different. You can use it as is with the NTFS for OS X driver package from Paragon Software.
If you continue to use Adobe, or switch to iPhoto, you might even want to use those programs to import into their catalogue.
Looks like Apple wants to move Aperture users to Lightroom and redo iPhoto which does not thrill me at all.

  • Moving itunes from one comuter to another after a crash

Had a computer hard drive crash. Since I needed a new computer anyway, bought a new computer. Hooked up the old hard drive as an external, and copied it over to the new harddrive, so I have access to the old data.
I re-installed itunes, hooked up the ipod, and it said that it was already linked to a different itunes.
    Two questions.
    1. How do I copy my songs and licenses for purchased songs from my old harddrive (which is now part of the new harddrive) to the newly installed i-tunes.
    2. once that is complete, how do I tell the ipod it's OK to use the new i-tunes on the new computer?
BTW, I do have tune-transfer installed on a separate computer. Will that come in handy for this endevor?
    Thanks

Well, It seems that starting ITUNES while holding shift,
then giving it the library location of the file from the recovered drive (except on the new computer) worked just fine.

  • After i have downloaded an album from iCloud to my new macbook pro. Itunes will only play one song at a time. If i hit the fast forward or back button will not do anything. I have to use the mouse to hit the next tidal in the album then hit play for it

after i have downloaded an album from iCloud to my new macbook pro. Itunes will only play one song at a time. If i hit the fast forward or back button will not do anything. I have to use the mouse to hit the next tidal in the album then hit play for it to play the next song. Or put it in the UP NEXT.

First, make sure these items have checkmarks next to their names in iTunes. Continuous playback only works on checked items. Itunes will play all checked items in a list whether or not they're from the same album.
If you see that nothing in your library is checked and you want to check everything, hold down Ctrl while checking an item. This checks everything.
Next, fixing the "1 of 1" problem is easily. Select all the tracks that make up the book/album. Let's say there are 15. Press Ctrl-I. Doublecheck that the album box is filled in with the name of the book, and if not, type it there. Enter "15" in the box for the total number of tracks. Click OK. Now all the items should be "1 of 15," "2 of 15," and so on.
