Moving Itunes U information to new MB Pro

I have a PC laptop that has itunes on it and I just bought a MacBook Pro. How can I move the itunes U information over?

Don't use the link above as it only moves the iTunes media folder to a new location to be used with the same computer and iTunes library.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from your PC to /Music/ on the MacBook Pro.
Better yet, migrate all your data from old computer to new computer.

  • Moving my Iphone to a new MacBook Pro from an old MacBook Pro

My husband just bought me a new MacBook Pro. I currently sync my Iphone to an older model MacBook Pro. How do I go about moving my Iphone to the new computer? I was going to take my 2 computers (the new one and the old one) into Apple so they could do the data migration. Is that something that they do when they move over Itunes along with my other things, or is it something I could do ahead of time?
    Thanks-

You can use migration assistant to move everything over yourself.

  • HT3819 Can I use Home Sharing to permanently Transfer my old iTunes Library to a new macbook pro?

    Hi,
I have a quick questoin regarding iTunes Home Sharing.
    1. Can I use Home Sharing to transfer music from my iTunes Library on my old Power Mac to iTunes on my new MacBook Pro?
    2. If I deauthorise iTunes on my old Power Mac will I lose my music on my new iTunes Library on my Macbook Pro - essentially are the two somehow linked together? I want to erase my old HD, wipe it clean, chuck it in a case and use as a back up storage, and then sell my old Power Mac.
    Thanks in advance.

Home Sharing is only for PCs that are connected in the same network

  • Can I migrate/copy my iTunes configuration to a new Mac Pro?

I have been able to copy over the sparse-bundle backups and restore.   But what I need to know is if I can copy over the entire configuration of iTunes (not just the music) such that my sync settings are retained (ie: sync only checked songs).  I have a considerably large collection of music and there's no way I want to go through selection again.   I just had my iPhone replaced, have a new cylinder Mac Pro to which I want to migrate this data.
I did perform an rsync of the Music directory structure to my new Mac Pro, but it appears to be missing settings (as I mention above).   I imagine that's stored elsewhere.
    Could someone elaborate?
    Thanks!

Found out how to address plist conversion from this page:
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20050430105126392
But I think iTunes has sorted this out.  As my $HOME is actually /Users/username and not /Volumes/Home/username on the new Mac.  We'll see... I'm sync'ing now

  • Moving XP drive to a new Mac Pro

I have an install of XP via Boot Camp on an old Mac Pro. It exists on it's own hard drive installed in the machine.
I'd like to move it to a new Mac Pro.
Is it as simple as moving the drive to the new machine?
When I run boot camp on the new machine will it recognize the previous install? Or will I need to do a new install?
    Thanks
    Dj

It 'should' work, but XP will see it is on different hardware and require activation or something. And, you always need to boot from XP CD once when moving it to do some system repair from what I heard.
If you want to address 4-8GB RAM; use both cpus, have better multi-core support, I wouldn't even use XP.
So depends on if this is retail or system builder whether you can deactivate and move the license.

  • Problem moving iTunes library between users on MacBook Pro / OS Lion

Hey guys, I can't figure this one out. I bought a new MacBook Pro, and since I didn't have the firewire cable, I just made my account on the new one. I got the firewire cable, and used migration assistant to transfer my old MacBook Pro over (photos, music, documents, etc...)
Now I have two accounts - my primary one "Matt Dustin" and my old one "Old Macbook." When logged into my primary, I can access all my songs, but they show up under shared, and not when I click Library at the top of my iTunes source list. How do I move them over? I tried placing my old library in a shared folder and important that, but it doesn't work.
I just want to delete account "Old Macbook" since I already transferred my old Macbook and have everything under "Matt Dustin", I just can't make my old iTunes library my primary one on the new account. Any help? I'll try to attach a screenshot of where the music currently is. You can see from the pics where it is, I want it on the top "Library", not "Shared."

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There is a folder in /Users directory named "Shared" which can be opened by all users and where you can put your iTunes library to be shared among different users. Another option would be to use an external drive.
You only have to copy the iTunes library to that folder. In order to access there, open a Finder window, select the Go menu -> Go to Folder, and type:
    /Users/Shared
After doing this, open iTunes while holding down the Alt key, and point iTunes to the library saved in that folder. Finally, open iTunes, go to iTunes menu (in the menu bar) -> Preferences -> Advanced, and choose the iTunes Media folder in the Shared folder. Do this in all your users.
Both roaringgnome's and Niel's answer (which is the same as this one) are valid. Just use the one you want to :-)

  • ITunes Library to a New MacBook Pro

I've just purchased a new MacBook Pro and would like to move my iTunes library which now resides on my PowerBook to the MacBook Pro.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to simply move the music over. I have several gigs worth of music and do have both Mac's on the same network.
    -Michael

You should be fine if you move your whole iTunes folder (with the Library and the Music folder) over to the new Mac (or your whole user folder, for that matter). Repairing permissions afterwards is always a good idea.

  • Moving iTunes Folder to a new Mac, Can't read iTunes library.itl

I'm replacing a Mac Pro (2,1) with OS 10.7.5, iTunes 11.4 with a 2012 Mac Mini with OS 10.9.3, iTunes 11.1.5. When I move the iTunes folder containing the iTunes Library to the new Mac, I get the error message "the file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes", which is of course true. I really don't want iTunes 12. Is there a way to move iTunes 11.4 from the old Mac to the new Mac?

    Hi, gokart-mozart.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You will need to rebuild your iTunes library file in order to open an older version of iTunes.  Below, I have included the article that walks you through this process.  Start with the section labeled Re-creating the iTunes Library file.

  • Moving iTunes library to a new PC

    Old OS: Win XP SP2
    New OS: Win7-64 Professional
    iTunes: 11.0.1.12 on both PCs
I need to migrate from an XP PC to a Win7-64 PC. iTunes was one of the S/W items to move.
I read somewhere that I could simply copy the iTunes library from one PC to the other an then just open the library on the new PC. So I did that.
The only things that I cared about during the move were the iPad/iPhone apps since I wasn't using iTunes for anything else.
So, on the new PC it looked like the library loaded OK and it started syncing with my iPad when I plugged it in.
But, it appeard that iTunes had no memory about all of the iPad/iPhone apps that we had downloaded.
More importantly, iTunes had no memory about which Apps I wanted synced with each device since we had way more Apps in iTunes than could fit on either device.
So, with the iPad plugged in under the "Apps" menu there were no Apps showing at all. Then, after trying anything that I could find -- syncing, File->Devices->Transfer Purchases, Backup, Stover->Authorize this computer -- it finally started showing the Apps that were currently on the iPad. It appears that it downloaded them from the iPad to the PC since it took forever.
Now, it appears that iTunes and the iPad are "synced" but all of the other Apps that we had previously purchased are not seen by iTunes. Further, I also have an iPhone that I would like to reconnect with iTunes but I don't want to have to go through the same laborious process that I had to go through with the iPad.
Am I missing something here wrt how to move iTunes Apps from one PC or another or is this the normal process?
And how do I now get the new iTunes to recognize all of Apps that were previously downloaded and are sitting under the current library folder --> iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications?
    Thanks, Chaz

Here's how I moved the library to the new PC:
Copied top level iTunes folder to a USB drive
Copied the iTunes folder to the new PC.
Installed latest version of iTunes on the new PC.
    Stopped iTunes.
Started iTunes while holding down the shift key.
    Selected the "copied" iTunes folder.
I did have some music in the library and it appeared that the "configuration" for this music was indeed intact.
But, iPad Apps and device configuration did not get transfered as described previously.
    Thanks, Chaz

  • Recently moved itunes/iphoto libraies to new, larger external hard drive...

Had large itunes/iphoto libraries that had resided on an external hard drive connected to my imac. These were backing up to a time capsule. Recently moved both libraries to a new, larger external hard drive. When Time Machine goes to back up, it is now trying to back up everything again, not just anything that is new. This is about 300 GB of music/movies/photos that were already backed up, and it is now trying to completely backup all this again. 2 300 GB backups will take up a lot of my TC. Should I just let it go? Do I have a possible issue with space? Just want to be sure I do the right thing....

  • Need some help getting my iTunes over to my new Mabook pro

    Hi:
I am trying to populate the iTunes application on my new laptop with my song from my G5 desk top. I failed trying to burn the songs to a DVD. I needed three dvd's to hold all my songs. The process failed on disk one. But it did totally fill the disk with something as the is now worthless. it is not recognized by iDVD.
    Help need some ideas.
    Thanks

    Hi:
Thank you for the reply, most appreciated.
Did you burn as a data disc? Yes, I used iTunes "file/back up to disc".
Why are you using iDVD to import you music?
I had to use a DVD because I have many songs.
The only error I got was that the first of three DVD's was not usable. I did not burn the next two.
    Thanks

  • Moving iTunes sync to a new laptop

I bought a new Mac Air. Old MBP 2008 is basically dead.
I want to move all my apps, music, all the settings via iCloud to the new computer.
What do I need to? It keeps showing me the message about how this new one cannot sync with my iTunes as it's not "authorized".
So I authorize it. It logs into my Apple ID account, and then comes back with a message saying "This computer is already authorized". (Really? OK.)
Now when I try to "Sync", it tells me that this computer is NOT authorized.
What gives? Seriously, aren't Macs just supposed to work? Who's doing this quality testing at Apple these days?
MY SIMPLE NEED (I think this is the need of every computer user)--
I want all the content that's in my iPhone to now sync with my iTunes on the new Mac Air, and remain synced.
Would truly appreciate any pointers. Thanks!

So I authorize it. It logs into my Apple ID account, and then comes back with a message saying "This computer is already authorized". (Really? OK.)
You may have a problem with several AppleIDs. You need to authorize all AppleID's that you used to buy from the iTunes Store.
I want to move all my apps, music, all the settings via iCloud to the new computer.
Have you enabled iTunes Match on your new computer? If you uploaded music to iCloud with iTunes Match, you will also have to sign into iTunes Match again on the new computer from the Store menu.

My old desktop crashed. I have an itunes account, I uploaded new itunes to new computer, yet have none of my playlistsor purchases. I am able to view my past purchases while in itunes but the account is blank and is like I have never had an itunes account. Mike

The itunes store does not keep a copy of your music for you. You buy ONE download. It is your responsibility to maintain a backup of your purchases and to move/copy the music wherever you would like it. It does not magically appear.
