Moving iweb site to Wordpress

Hi.
I have made a few sites now using iweb. As much as i like it, i has become a bit frustrating having to add all sorts of bits and bobs to try and do some SEO. My sites are doing ok, but i really want to change to Wordpress so that i can easily edit my websites from anywhere.
My question is, how to i move my site to Wordpress?
I don't mind redesigning the site, because it is quite basic anyway, but how do i keep the same web address etc so all my links still work.
My site is www.neildonoghuecoaching.co.uk and it is hosted by 123 reg.
123 reg allows me to add Wordpress.
Thanks
Neil

  • Since moving iWeb site my podcast won't publish to iTunes

Ok, I have just recently moved my iWeb site from MobileMe to LCN and they seem to be hosting it fine EXCEPT my podcast is no longer downloadable from iTunes. This is obviously cos it's still pointing to the old MobileMe address so, using iWeb to try and republish the podcast from the new site I get the message "We had difficulty reading this feed. Bad http result code: 404"
It seems to be the case that, since moving my site, I no longer have an rss feed to send to iTunes. I have asked LCN about this and I got this response:
"Unfortunately we are not able to assist with this functionality of the iWeb software - as the publishing to itunes via the iWeb software is not something over which we have any control or any advanced knowledge to be able to advise if this functionality is simply not possible if not publishing to the Mobile-Me service.
I would recommend raising this enquiry directly with Apple support as they should be more able to advise on a resolution to this problem."
Does this mean I have just moved my site to the wrong people and should use a different hosting service or is there something I can do here? Please help, I'm kind of lost here!

Web should create the RSS files automatically - there are links to them on the sites - and they should be at
    http://thetrap.co.uk/web/Podcast/rss.xml
    http://thetrap.co.uk/web/Event_Horizon_Crescent/rss.xml
(two separate podcasts) but there are no files at these addresses. The first thing to do is to check that these checkboxes are enabled in the Inspector:
though I would have thought the fact there are links to the feed would mean that these boxed were checked.
Then you should do a Publish all files from iWeb, using the FTP option in the publish pane. (If you had simply copied the pages over from MobileMe, that could cause problems; you need always to publish from iWeb).
If that doesn't do any good you have some ongoing problem in iWeb and the best place to ask would be in the iWeb Forum.

  • Help Moving iWeb site to a windows PC

My objective is to create a site using iWeb and move that site to a standalone PC and use Firefox to read the site folder and run the site. Not needing any internet. The files are too large anyway.
I have created the iWeb site with many videos from iMovie. In iWeb I have "published to folder" and then I point Firefox to the folder and browse and check all the links and videos. It all works fine on the Mac.
The first question I have is that I assumed the "publish to folder" would contain all the needed files for the site (including the videos). In looking at the folder that was created, it only contains the pages, etc. Not the actual videos. So part of the question is that when I move the site to a PC I guess I need to find and move the videos also? What about the directory structure that iWeb is expecting?
The second question is how to get this large site to a PC? Someone recommended connecting the Mac and PC with an eithernet cable. Someone also suggested using a portable Harddrive formatted as FAT32. Too big for a thumb drive.
If someone could guide me through this I would appreciate it.
    Thank you.

I assumed the "publish to folder" would contain all the needed files for the site (including the videos).
    That's correct.
In looking at the folder that was created, it only contains the pages, etc.
It should also contain folders, with names like pagename_files and Media, that contain images, videos ,etc.

  • IWeb - Moving iweb site from one mac to another mac.

    Hi,
I am using iWeb 08 and would like to move the iWeb site that was created on one mac to another mac to continue editing on the other mac. Any one now how to do this.
    Thanks
    tsofa

    Hi Tsofa,
You need to locate and copy the Domain.site2 file which iWeb creates.
By default this is usually located in User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
You can copy this to any location on the other mac. As long as you use this file to start iWeb, it will recognise it as your default.
If you want to create a new one, but still keep the old, just rename the file and start iWeb, which will generate a new Domain.sites2 file

  • Moving iWeb site from my iBook to my new iMac

    Hi guys,
I'm having problems with moving my iWeb website to my new iMac. I have tried moving the domain file from the User>Library>Application Support>iWeb folder into the same location on my new computer and, yes, it does indeed work. However when I come to publish the site it appears that it cannot connect to MobileMe in order to upload. Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas as I really need to get my portfolio published online!
    Thanks
    Ben

Are you able to publish to a folder? If you can the problem is not with the domain file. So try the following:
1 - copy the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Shared folder on your Mac.
2 - Create a new account on your mac or log into another existing account.
3 - go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log into your MMe account.
4 - move the Domain file from the Shared folder to your desktop and double click on it.
5 - try to publish from there.
Note: if you don't have permission to open that domain file you can set the permissions as follows:
download and run BatChmod on the Domaine.sites2 file with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the file or just drag the file into that field.
If you're not able to publish then the issue is with iWeb and a reinstall of iWeb is warranted. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iWeb" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
If you're able to publish from the other account then your primary account is suspect. It could be a preference file other than iWeb's. Here's how to determine if that's the case.
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

  • Moving iweb site from one comuper to another

I just brought a new imac, i have been using my powerbook to work on my site, bu tnow i want to be able to work on my site on the imac as well. but i don;t know how to transfer my pages to the new computer? help please anyone

There is only one file that you need to move from your PowerBook to your new mac....it is named "Domain". You can find it on your hard drive in the /Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ folder.
    1. Launch iWeb on the new mac at least once, then quit. This should create the default folder pathway and a blank Domain file.
    2. Copy the Domain file from your PowerBook to the new mac and replace the preexisting Domain file in the same folder pathway as the original.
    3. Launch iWeb and you should see your sites.

  • Moving iWeb site from one computer to another

    Hello,
I tried looking for an answer to this, but couldn't find one that was specific to this question.
I have iWeb on my computer at home, but I've created a site on a friends computer (using iWeb) and want to add this recently created site to my computer at home. I know I can copy the Domain file, but if I put that into my iWeb folder at home, won't that overwrite all the sites I've already created?
My question is: is there anyway to add a previously created site on a different computer to my existing roster of sites created on my home computer?
    Thanks!
    Blair

    Hi Blair,
You cannot combine all the sites into one Domain file, and you would not want to do this anyway, even if you could; and yes, if you place the other Domain into the same path on your home machine, you will replace the Domain file that is there now.
What you should do to manage both sites/Domains from the same machine is change the default location of the Domain files to a folder structure, and manage the Domain files from there.
Create a couple of folders and name them, "Home Domain" and "Friend's Domain", for example. Place the Domains inside of these folders, and when you want to work on sites within a specific Domain just open the respective folder and double-click on the Domain file inside. iWeb will open and you will see the sites contained in that Domain as you have always seen them.
You will be able to move back and forth between these Domains created on different machines very easily this way.

  • Moving iWeb site from PowerBook G4 (iWeb 1.1.2) to Intel iMac (iWeb 2.0.4)

We were out of town recently and had a big family adventure that we wanted to share with friends and family who live far from us. We decided to use iWeb on our PowerBook G4 to do this. We had never used iWeb prior to this. We naively thought that we could then just always work on it from our iMac thinking that it was not published to our hard drive but uploaded via our .mac. I have learned since coming home that that is not the case and that, in fact, the domain lives on our PowerBook.
Now we are home and we would like to transfer the site from our PowerBook G4 to our Intel iMac given that we use the iMac predominantly and the PowerBook for travel only.
I read on one support page that all I needed to do was move the domain file under library/applicationsupport/iWeb/domain on the PowerBook to the same location on the iMac. But then I read in other areas of the Apple Support Site, including these forums, that I may not be correct in this. I also thought I read somewhere that the two iWeb applications on the computers need to be the same version, but in other places this is not mentioned. Our PowerBook is running iWeb 1.1.2 and our iMac is running iWeb 2.0.4.
What I am hoping is possible is that I can just use my firewire and Target Disk Mode to transfer the file like I did when I was transferring our iPhoto library to the iMac and our iMovies. It did not seem to matter that the two computers had different versions of these applications, the moves worked like a charm. And I am hoping that perhaps I could still work on the webpage from the laptop when we travel and want to add to the site to keep our friends and family up to date with our activities. Are these things possible?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks so much!

in the old days of .mac, before mobile me, there was a way to view your webpage or homepage...
Teresa ~ That was probably using the .Mac HomePage web-based app — but that has nothing to do with iWeb. See this Apple doc:
    _MobileMe: Finding your .Mac Homepage_
...figure out how to access my iWeb page using my .mac MobileMe.
Currently, you can't manage your iWeb page via the web — it must be done via the iWeb app on a Mac.
...does that mean that after i transfer it, i can't access it from my iWeb app and that i have to go to it via the library...
You can put that transferred domain file wherever you want on your iMac and you can have multiple domain files. See this article:
_How do you manage multiple domain files for iWeb?_
Double-clicking a domain file will open its site(s) in iWeb. Double-clicking the iWeb app will open the last domain file used.
...or does it mean it will show up in my sites on iWeb and i double click it at that point and then it will convert from 1.1.2 to 2.0.4?
It won't show up as a site in iWeb until you've double-clicked the transferred domain file on your iMac and iWeb has converted it to 2.x format.
But whatever you do, first do backups of your domain files to an external drive so you don't confuse them with the domain files on your Mac's internal drive:

  • Moving iweb site from mobileme account...

Our hard drive failed last night. Therefore our site is also gone. I know you can save the files from one computer and transfer to another to edit your site. Is there ANY way that it can be saved from the mobileme and then transferred to another computer with iweb?

Yes, we took it to two different people this morning. Hard drive "clicking" = very bad! We have to hire a professional drive saver to get anything back. We'll contact Apple (again). It is under warranty, but once we send it in to them they take the old hard drive and will not retrieve any files. We have to retrieve the files first. Thanks for the help. I kind of knew what the answer would be- but thought I would ask in case there was some magical trick!

  • Moving iweb site to my new computer?

I just bought a new macbook pro. I am attempting to move my iweb domain to the macbook. I backed up the domain on my old computer (imacG5) to my idisk. I burned all the files onto a dvd. I want to move these files (five sites) into the domain file on my macbook pro. I am sitting here like a moron looking at the files; I've read th e posts that say to copy my domain to the new computer, but my domain is a big package of files and I am not sure how to "copy" them so they will open on my new computer.
    Thanks for any help!
    John Fitz

The Domain file should appear as a single file (though it is a "package" of files like you mention). Copying it to your new MacBookPro should be as easy as drag and drop. I would put it into the same default location as you found it...on your hard drive..../Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/... Drop it in this folder and if you are asked to overwrite and existing Domain file, this should be okay as long as you have not already started a new site on your new MacBook Pro.
Once you have this file copied over, you should be able to open iWeb on the new computer and see all your sites in the Site Organizer. Again, so that there is no confusion, the file that you need is called "Domain". Let me know if you have any trouble.
If you have found any of this information to be useful to you, please take the time to provide me with feedback by marking my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using those little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I'd really appreciate it!

  • Hi, I'm moving my site from MobileMe to Filezilla and there is apparently a coding error on iWeb that means when I try to get onto my site there's no access online and it says there are too many redirects. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

Hi, I'm moving my site from MobileMe to Filezilla and there is apparently a coding error on iWeb that means when I try to get onto my site there's no access online and it says there are too many redirects. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

Well, firstly Filezilla is not a hosting company but an ftp client that helps you upload your site to your new server. You need to purchase a new hosting account first though.
If you have iWeb 09 then you can publish directly to your new host and you select the publish to ftp option and not MobileMe - MobileMe won't be here after tomorrow.
You can also publish to a local folder if want to and use Filezilla to upload your site to your server.
You don't need re-directs as MobileMe won't be here so you need to cancel and delete your domain name from your MobileMe account and then cancel any domain name forwarding that you have at your domain name registrar - that is what the redirects are about.
Firstly ensure that you have your new hostings account - Filezilla is not a host, rather an ftp client that you use to upload your site.

  • Moving my iweb site to another mac

Is it possible to move my iweb site from one mac to another? If so how do I do it?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Lucy,
iWebSites is a beta application capable of merging separate Domain files. It gets good reviews in this forum.
You will not overwrite one Domain file with another unless you intentionally replace a Domain file with another, just like any like-named file. Keep your Domain files in their own folders, folders that are named for the sites the respective Domain files contain. Open the Domain file/Site of your choice by first opening it's folder and then double-clicking on the Domain file inside.

  • IWeb site opens blank site after moving to new computer

    Hi,
I copied my iWeb domain file to a new computer and now when I open it, it opens to a blank site as if I've never created anything before.
To make maters worse, in the process of following advice from others and deleting preference files etc, I've messed things up to the point that my iWeb site no longer works on the original computer . However, I have used Time Machine to retrieve a copy of the domain file from three months ago (when I can be sure it was working). Problem is, I can't get it to work on either computer.
I would appreciate any advice and direction as I've got over six years of work into this particular site.

What you need is the Domain.sites2 file from your old computer. It will be located in the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Copy it to the same folder on your new Mac replacing the domain file that is currently there.
If you don't have a copy of that file you'll have to rebuild your site from scratch. However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing image, audio and/or video files in the published site in the reconstruction of the site.
