Moving laptop screen puts pressure on lcd panel

Hi guys
I have just noticed on my HP Envy 2002ea that when I move my laptop screen slightly or the table gets knocked causing the screen to wobble is putting pressure on the lcd screen from the rear.  I have not noticed this up until now as I usually have it connected to a monitor and it is only clearly visible on darker colours on the screen.
I have already called up HP Support and they have said that they are not willing to repair it.  The laptop is £1200 and I have never ever seen this on any other laptop I have used - personal or work.
I have escalated the problem via the escalations department - takes 5 days for a reply.  Which I think is terrible!
Here is a video of the issue http://twitvid.com/KIN9A (watch bottom right of laptop screen - 2/3 secs in)
As you can see I am moving the screen causing the lcd to be pressured from the back!  In my opinion this should not happen! That's why when you buy a new tv/monitor etc it says do not put pressure on the screen panel.
I just wanted your opinion.
Thanks
Mark

Agreed. It should not do that. If the display panel is bolted in to the frame it will not. I suspect a build problem.

  • DSC-HX90V LCD panel shows images upside down

I bought the DSC-HX90V for my wife in late June, and we promptly took it on a three-week cruise and visit to Italy. The camera performed well, even in low light, and the telephoto worked phenomenally: Thanks to the 5-axis OIS, we were able to take 30X zoom images with exceptional clarity and no blurring (even when shooting distant ferries, containerships, etc. from the deck of a cruise ship). The viewfinder was a great convenience, and it was easier to use than we might have guessed (popping it up and flicking the back element of the finder out quickly became an instinctive process). But--and this is really weird--the camera developed a fluke after several days of use: the LCD began displaying images upside down, in both shooting and review modes. At first this happened sporadically, then it happened all the time, and finally--in the past few days--it reverted to displaying images correctly. Fortunately, there were two workarounds when the LCD was acting goofy: We could use use the viewfinder (which was immune from "upside down syndrome") or pull the bottom of the LCD panel out an eighth of an inch or so, which resulted in upside down giving way to right side up. I haven't yet called Sony's warranty service about this, but I'm guessing the problem is in the LCD's "selfie" position sensor. It would be great if it could be solved with a firmware update or system reset, but that's probably too much to hope for. In summary: Great camera, but with an annoying flaw that will need to be fixed.

    Hello Imboden,
Sorry to know that you are experiencing this issue with your camera. Please try to reset the settings in the camera by pressing MENU then Setup then Setting Reset. You can also do a Power Reset by turning the camera off, removing the battery. Press and Hold the On/Off button for a minute and then release it and reinsert battery. Turn on the camera and test the LCD screen.
If the LCD panel still does not work properly, I would recommend sending the camera in to http://repair-camera.com/SonyRepairHome.aspx for evaluation and repairs.

Can you take a photo of the damage? Once before I saw an LCD that arrived truly internally cracked. The ink was in a perfect circle, writing off any user fault.
In the worst case situation, it might be worthwhile to call Lenovo and purchase a new screen. If you purchase one through them, you can get warranty support for the new screen. I realize that is a terrible alternative, as you should not have to invest more money, but it is the cheapest route to get a functioning LCD.

  • How to switch off laptop screen when you connect external LCD?

Hello, being new to Mac I'd like to ask if it is possible to completely switch off the laptop screen when you connect an external LCD screen and use it as your main desktop. My MacBook Pro does that automatically when I launch a full screen game, say World of Warcraft, but I would like to be able to do it manually.

If you have it connected to a keyboard and mouse, you just shut the lid and use it that way. Of course, I'd be curious why you wouldn't want to use the screen. Having two screens can be extremely useful. The only problem with it is that then you may miss it when you are away from your second screen!

I just bought a Dell Precision M3800 laptop - screen res 3840 x 2160  when I open photoshop the task bar and tools and layers etc are in 4pts size   I changed my % in my image in my control panel and if I go to open file the drop down boxes are in good pt sizes  how do I make the layers and tool bars bigger?  Please help@

Windows will scale applications display or windows will not scale application display depending on how the application is coded.  Photoshop is coded in a way that its display is not scaled by windows.  Photoshop knows about your displays high pixel count not its resolution  so it uses its pixels  however it does not scale its UI to make it usable on your display.  Other application let Windows  scale their display output.   For example Microsoft default for is Surface Pro 3, 216 ppi display is to scale applications display up 150% so the surface pro 3 display which has 2160x1440 pixels a 216 ppi resolution look like at display with the user is using with 1440x960 pixels.  The Application works like the display is 1440x960 and Windows scale those pixels to the displays using the displays  2160x1440 pixels the effectively changing it resolution to 144ppi rather than the actual 216ppi.
The reg update  and external manifest file  effectively tells photoshop its working on such a size display display some number of pixel wide and some number photoshop uses that as the display size  in turn Windows scale those pixels to use the displays 2160x1440 pixels efector lowing its 216ppi resolution.  Photoshop CC 2014 2X UI would be like using windows 200% option applications would be shown the are working on a display 1080x720 instead of the Surface Pro 3 2160x1440. Note that 1080x720 does not meet PS requirement of 1024x768.  Photoshop UI would not fit on the Surface Pro 3 display..
Since you have a 4k display if you have CC 2014 you can use its 2x UI effectively Photoshop will be running on a 1920x1080 display and have half the resolution of you 4K display  3840x2160 pixels four native pixels are use as a single pixel.   1920x1080 pixels exceed PS requirement.

  • Hi, I have a 3 year old Macbook Pro 13" and I accidentally cracked the outer screen of my mac book, however the LCD panel is fine and works well. Please advise what to do

Hi, I have a 3 year old Macbook Pro 13" and I accidentally cracked the outer screen of my mac book, however the LCD panel is fine and works well. Please advise what to do. I live in India and I have gone to authorised Apple technicians and they infomed me that I will have to replace the LCD panel as well even though it is not cracked, is this really true or can I just change the outer shell? Also they say that they cannot do it in India... can I do it myself at home?

Since it is 3 years old find a local repair shop that can replace the glass Only. you may have to send it out to a Non Local shop for that but there are some that specialize in doiing that on Mac notebooks.
Apple will ony replace the complete screen enclosure with all normal parts included, LCD, Camera, Aluminum housing and glass as one unit. Which is very expensive. Or you could just use it as a desktop system with external monitor and buy a new notebook.

  • USB PORT REPLICATOR WITH DIGITAL VIDEO JUMPING BETWEEN LAPTOP SCREEN AND LCD

    Hi,
I have an E330 connected to the above port replicator and I am having an issue where I could be working away on a document and all of a sudden the screen on my LCD freezes and goes blank, then my laptop screen boots up for about 3 seconds then it switches back to the LCD.
I have noticed that it only seems to happen when I am either using the scroll wheel on the mouse or clicking on the mouse button.
Any suggested fixes would be welcome

This sounds like the USB dock is dropping off the USB bus and then reconnecting. This could be a problem with the USB 3.0 hub in the dock.
Lenovo have made a firmware update available for the USB 3.0 hub in this dock, that could solve the issue:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM014961
It is also work making sure your USB 3.0 host controller drivers are up to date if you are using Windows 7. Links to the latest USB 3.0 HC drivers can be found here:
    http://kb.displaylink.com/315
I *think* it is an Intel USB 3.0 chipset on this laptop.

  • Portege R500 - Switch view from laptop screen to LCD projector

Hello - new here, urgent request. We are having a meeting and I am using the Portege R500 for the first time with LCD Projector which is also a Toshiba.
How do I switch the view from the laptop screen to the projector screen? I thought it was Function F5 (Fn F5) but it isn't working.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi
Yes, you have to use the FN+F5 to switch to the external monitor or to external projector, etc
Firstly you have to connect the notebook with projector while the both devices are off.
After you have connected the projector you could power up the notebook.
Then try to switch to external projector using the FN+F5 key combination

  • Random laptop screen Black out / Turn off .

     Hi,
first of all my laptop is : HP Pavilion dv6-6160se Entertainment Notebook
    to the problem now
A few days ago my laptops screen started  out of a sudden shutting down/turning black( no lights at all ). This was happening while using the laptop at random. The screen  had no lights, and if i use a flashlight on it there is nothing. like its turned off completelly.
Before this happens. Ths behavior varies. Sometimes it flickers from my desktop to a black screen then back on and some times not. Most of the times screen changed to a radom color (green mostly) then becomes black/shuts down.
NOTE: The laptop keeps runing, i can hear the videos playing so it probably isnt a gpu chip or gpu issue , music and games.
I searched the web for all kind of reasons that this could happen and tried some of the fixes .
Here are everything i tried and all or the details i could accumulate in past coupe of days:
    1. If the screen flickers , blacks out and then turns back on i get a message that gpu drivers have stopped working and recovered (  on both amd and intel ).
    2. If the screen blacks out, on rare ocasions if you close the laptop lid and let the laptop go to sleep , when waking up screen works again ( noticable due to screen moving)
    3. I tried installing 4 different drivers all with clear install. ( didn't work)
    4. I tried to  to recover system with restore point. ( didn't work)
    5. I tried to lower the screen brightness. ( didn't work)
    6. tried this trick:
    Turn off laptop
    Remove battery
Hold the power buttong for 30-45 seconds
Plug-in the charger ( dont put the battery in )
Turn on laptop and see if it works.
    Very Noticable details:
    7.  Since  on of the rare fixes requires to move the lid  i tried shaking the screen a bit or pushing it slightly to different directions. This actually  does the trick and turns the screen back on ( i am right now typing  this after using this "trick"
So, with this one as a hint there are a couple of stuff i have in mind but i am not sure  and need help since i am not a technician.
    a) There is a loose LCD cable and when i type a little vibration moves it and ends up in a black screen.
    b) I read that if you use a flashlight and you cant see  your desktop it means its a bad inverter.
    c) Can the inverter have a lose cabe instead of the lcd ?
That's all the feedback i could give you that i can recall now.
Currecntly the screen looks ok ( maybe its the certain angle it has after i moved it  so i would aprecciate a fast reply before  it goes black again
EDIT: Tried to play a game for a few mins and i got the black screen again. Closed the lid  so the laptop goes in sleep mode then opened it and it worked. Just for the records.
EDIT#2: Just tried to play a game again. got the blackscreen, shaked the screen a bit and it worked but for the 1st time i get the message " Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" , Can it be that its the GPU after all or maybe drivers?
EDIT#3: Tried to play a game again and it seem to trigger the issue . ( i am currently running the laptop with only the intel drivers installed)
    thanks in advance
    Sincerely,
    Ntas
P.S. Please feel free to ask me any question if you need more information, i am not a laptop expert but i know   more than the average person

    Hi @Ntas
I have read through your post and it seems there are a couple of possibilities, and I noted that you have already tried several of the things I would normally suggest.
I will however post some of those links anyway for you to review, it is always possible there may be something in one of them that may have been missed or may inspire an idea of the cause. Since you mentioned that sometimes just moving the screen will cause the problem or make it disappear, that does seem like either a loose connection or maybe something like pressure on a part of the display causing the issue.  Of course that last part may just mean the display is on its last legs, but hopefully not.
First I will give you a link to the service manual, to help you check the connections. Just be careful to read the sections on precautions, to protect yourself and to prevent any other damage. This manual is also useful in that it lists all the compatible parts, so if the display is defective you could use this guide to help order a compatible replacement if you choose to do so. • Light leak (bleeding) theory sponge gasket around lcd panel . Apple fix?

    Hi
been looking at the light leak issue crop up on the forums and this may have already been suggested.
But if you look at the ifixit teardown and the part of them lifting up the digitser:
    http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/OtgrusGS6MXm5tMA.huge
You can see apple chose to use a sponge gasket around the display right on the LCD bezels edge!
now anyone whos worked with laptops repairing them (myself) and has fitted a raw LCD panel knows that any pressure on the LCD steal bezel will cause the backlight to bleed through, much like if you pressed an uncoverd LCD screen with your finger.
Now whats to say this sponge gasket isnt doing the same? soon as they stick the glass to the back plate the gasket puts pressure on the LCD, If so it could be easy fixed by a softer gasket/setting it further back or maybe ditching it and blocking dust from outside at the openings!
Just a theory what you guys think?

  • Different LCD panel?

    Hello,
I am interested to know if it is possible to put a lcd panel from another laptop into my lombard?
I would like to know what connectors the lcd screen in my lombard uses.
I have looked on bay at other panels and they look as if they use the same connectors.
Does the screen use xvga? a 25-pin connector or is it 30-pin?
what voltages does the screen need?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

I'd say that you can most probably put a display from a Pismo onto the Lombard, or of course another Lomabrd, and maybe a 14" Wallstreet, but that is about it. I seriously doubt a screen from a PC laptop would work, you most likely blow out the new lcd and maybe fry the Lombard's motherboard.

  • Laptop screen plays back jumpy video, CRT looks fine

    I have a strange problem:
When I play back video from FCP (6.0.6) in either the canvas or the viewer and the window is entirely on my laptop screen, it looks jumpy, sort of like if the playback frame rate was set to dynamic. If the window is even partially (like 10%) on the CRT, the playback is fine. The jumpiness goes away if I set the playback quality to Medium.
I have been editing with this setup for a year or so and only recently noticed this. I've recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, but FCP is still 6.0.6. Is this a Snow Leopard / FCP version problem? It seems odd that it would only exist on my laptop's LCD screen and not my CRT.
    System Details:
I have a 2.6 Ghz Macbook pro with 2gb of ram. The DVI out is connected to an old LaCie Electron Blue 22" CRT. I typically edit with both screens, usully putting the canvas on the laptop screen and the viewer on the CRT. My playback framerate is set to full and video quality set to high. My capture scratch drive is an OWC Mercury Elite Pro set up as a RAID 0 and connected via Firewire 800. My sequence setting is ProRes 422 1440x1080 and the footage was shot with a Canon XH A1. Some was captured as ProRes and some as HDV, but the problem happens with both kinds of footage.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    - Bruce

I suppose that makes sense. I do wonder, though, why it would have this weird behavior where it only does it if the entire window is on the laptop screen. If just a little sliver of it is on the CRT, then it's fine. Also, why would it prioritize the performance of the second display over its main display?
Is there any way to boost the graphics card performance? Would more RAM take some of the pressure off the graphics card, or are the tasks strictly separate?
