Moving layers between contact sheets?

Created a hard copy portfolio of 60 images for photoshow purposes and 3 (CS3) contact sheets to go with it.
Trying to shift\move selected thumbnails between contact sheets, but what the program seems to be copying rather than moving.
I can deal with it ok, but it is double work.  Is there a better way, or is that it?......Izzy

drag and drop always copies when working between different documents, you'll have to Select->All and then use Edit->Cut and Edit->Paste to move stuff between documents.

  • Contact Sheet X v2.1 - how to increase space between caption & images?

Contact Sheet X v2.1 has been working very well. But I can't find a way to increase the spacing between the captions and the images. They're practically touching. From time to time I need to move elements of the proof sheet. The dialog box for Contact Sheet X v2.1 doesn't appear to have anything to control the distance between caption and image. Does anyone have a solution? Using Photoshop CC, Mac OSX 10.9.5. Thank you.

Somehow setting width="400" did not change anything. I also tried:
    mx|ColumnChart { columnWidthRatio: 0.8; width: 1000; columnWidth: 1000; }
    to no avail.
Anyhow, I've reduced my columnWidthRatio to 0.8 though as you suggested. It looks better, but I'd still like some more space between the columns.
    Thanks!

  • Contact Sheets / Proofing and useful Aperture RAW Conversion

    All,
I wanted to appeal to all of you pro photographers out there to share about how you handle the proofing stage (contact sheets) with your clients. I'm curious about how you all make this process as efficient as possible.
Ok, say you have taken 1000 pictures for a wedding or some other event (forget the accuracy of that number, its just a round number for discussion sake). You need to present your photos to your client, but you need to present a subset of the 1000 photos for a few reasons:
    1) Not all photos you are going to take are going to be great. I've heard a general quote by some pro photographers that their "keeper ratios" (the percentage of pics that are really good from a shoot) run around 10%-20%. Fair enough, I don't want to debate this percentage, but it gives us a target number of 100 photos to present to a client from a 1000 picture shoot.
    2) Your client is probably not going to be happy if they have to sift through 1000 photos. I recently had a friend who paid several thousand dollars for a wedding photographer who sent them 1000 photos to choose from. They weren't particularly happy with this, and told the guy there was just too many to choose from. Personally, I felt that this was putting part of the photographer's responsibility on the client, but whatever.
Ok...so for the sake of the example here, we have to get 1000 photos down to 100 photos, so the client can choose what 50 (for example) they want to purchase and have printed, put in their photo book, slide presentation, etc.
Sorry for the long intro, but here is the issue at hand: we want to work quickly for the client, and get them their 100 photos as soon as possible. We also want to put our best foot forward, and give them high-quality photos. But at the same time, we want to work efficiently, and if possible not spend time doing final retouching on photos that the customer doesn't want, but rather focus this time directly on the photos the customer does want.
I have two questions from this which pertain to Aperture's RAW conversion and workflow:
    1) Do you do any significant adjustments on photos for the contact sheets you present to clients (the 100 photos now)? Is it just a quick exposure adjustment, or are you retouching all 100?
    2) Despite Aperture's RAW conversion problems and other adjustment glitches, is it sufficient quality in your opinion for a contact sheet?
My purpose in asking these questions is that perhaps the Aperture RAW conversion issue can be mitigated if we can get to the point of customer contact and review using Aperture-only conversion and adjustment tools, and then isolate photoshop use for only the final, significant edits. The problems with Aperture's RAW conversion are well-documented, but the question is, could it still be sufficient for small-scale proofs, understanding that for large-scale, high-res images, it won't be suffcient.
    Your opinons are valued!

">-DELETE project from Aperture because I can't use the app for the delivery
    of finals:
Forgive me if I've forgotten the detail you may have posted elsewhere about this. I have seen you mention this several times, but I am really interested in the specifics behind the problems you have encountered. I have some needs in finishing that are beyond just regurgitating a photo. I'll be basically augmenting my photo with text, borders, special effects, etc. for more professional presentation, and the ability to market a photo in different ways. This is one reason I cannot discard Photoshop from my workflow. Anyway, let's assume for a moment I'm able to do all my editing in Photoshop, and those PSD files are sitting within Aperture. From there, what problems am I going to encounter? I'm tapping your brain here, as the time I have spent in Aperture has been primarily oriented toward everything prior to the finishing stage. "
    Hi Brad,
If I've imported images into Aperture that have previously been worked over in Photoshop, none of the layers I may have created in those files will be available to me from within Aperture. This does not break but severely sprains the functionality of Photoshop. I'm keeping the images around because I think I or my clients will need them later, so what might I do with them?:
    1) If I'd like to do more work on them I either have to abandon access to the previously created layers and their magic, or export the file from Aperture, work on it outside, import it back into Aperture. Every time I want to work with those layers I have to do the same dance.
    2) If I'd like to send jpg or tif versions of those files anywhere I can choose to use the tools within Aperture or Photoshop to do so. Aperture's tools for these conversions are simply not of professional utility: no compressed tifs, no layered tif support, no quality choices for jpgs and no jpg previews. And in either case, using Aperture or Photoshop, the conversions are created OUTSIDE of Aperture and not managed by it.
    3) When I decide to archive my older projects I'm faced with the incredible limitation that Aperture will not allow me any remote search of any archive that is not "live" within Aperture. Not even Spotlight will search Aperture libraries!!!!!
So moving already created projects into Aperture has absolutely no advantages and a number of problems, any one of which might be a deal-killer by itself.
If I'd like to use Aperture to manage work that I create going forward I've got those limitations already listed above, but I CAN access layers in PSD that are created from within Aperture. I cannot make layered duplicates of those files in order to work on versions of those images so once again the Photoshop workflow is hobbled.
All of this makes it a bad idea for my projects to make anything but a brief trip in and out of Aperture for sorting/proofing.
    Regards,
    fp

  • Putting Text with Contact Sheet in CS4

    Hello,
I have read numerous posts, I have seen an online tutorial, in terms of how the Contact Sheet feature was moved in CS 4.....I did manage to find it, however, I do find myself with a question...
I am submitting images to a magazine Photo Editor, and they require a contact sheet to be submitted along with the images. On the contact sheet they want the FILE NAME, and also the Species Name (I am shooting wildlife), and also a quick mention of the geographic area in the US where it was shot.....
As I said, I found the Contact Sheet part in CS4, and I see where I can list an overall Header or Footer on the overall Contact sheet page, but I do not
see anywhere (I apologize ahead of time if I am overlooking this in some obvious place), I do not see anywhere, where, I can go to the individual images, and, in addition to the File names, put the kind of text information that I just mentioned above.
Way back in CS3, the Contact sheet function actually generated a Layered PS File, with the images and the text for the images, as separate layers, and you could actually go in and type custom text into the Text portion below the image, but that does not seem to be the case at all in CS4.
Surely this is doable somehow for me to add custom text to the images on my Contact sheet, beyond merely the file names? If not in Photoshop, is anyone aware of any 3rd party Contact Sheet software that will allow me to do this? This is a national publication that puts out about 40 magazines, so I cannot be the first to run into this problem.
Any help you can give me ( in terms of a detailed explanation of how to do this) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all, and have a great day!
    John

I haven't used it myself but you could check out

  • Minor bug in Print module (numbering of Contact Sheet pages)

I have selected one image from the Library or the film strip, went to the Print module and selected "5x8 Contact Sheet" from the Template Browser. On the top/left corner, it states "Page 1 of 2", while obviously there is one page only. Adding more pictures to fill in multiple pages, and moving from one page to another, the indication on top/left is recurrently wrong, e.g. indicating Page 2 of 2 when I am on 1 of 2. Numbering in the lower right rectangle is correct, instead.

Lightroom automatically wraps text under the thumbnail in contact sheets. The Text Template Editor does not allow you to enter line breaks. So, if your Filename is long enough to fill the first line, the caption will start with the second. If not, you can tweak the template somehow so that it looks the way you want.

  • InDesign Contact Sheet not working in CS 2

I a computer at work with CS 2 and Vista on it. Everything is fully up to date. When I try to run the contact sheet script from the tools menu it brings up a dialog box saying "Starting..." (if InDesign isn't open it will open it) and then it just sits there for about 2 mins and then it stops. InDesign doesn't even start a new document.
Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on and how I might be able to fix it? (and yes I am using it correctly... have been using CS 2 for years and have used this feature many other times in past jobs)
    Thanks

I have moved the post to http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbaa316.3c062841 to see if I get a better response.

  • How can I create a PDF contact sheet of photos in finder

I'm trying to create an automator workflow/action (or service) that will allow me to select a set of photos in the finder and then create a PDF contact sheet that will include the Photo filename. I know that I can select photos and open in preview, but these do not include the filename with the photo in the saved PDF.
I'm a newbie with Automator, but i gave it a try myself.
In the Automator PDF Library, there is an action called "New PDF contact sheet", however I can't seem to be able to get it to work. I dragged that action to the workflow and then added "Get Selected Finder Items" before that.
It appears to run it--an "application"/window appears titled "MakePDF" and it appears to run through the selected photos. However, at the end (after it asks for the file name to save it with), it says that "The action “New PDF Contact Sheet” encountered an error--check the actions properties and try running the workflow again".
What am I leaving out of the workflow?

There is a bug in the *New PDF Contact Sheet* action in that it is looking for the Leopard version of a file that moved and changed in Snow Leopard.
Snow Leopard has a newer version of a support application MakePDF.app in the */System/Library/Image Capture/Automatic Tasks* folder, but as mentioned the *New PDF Contact Sheet* action seems to still require the older version of the application, which in Leopard is located in the */System/Library/Image Capture/Tools* folder. If you have access to a Leopard installation, you can copy the MakePDF.app from Leopard and place it into the same location in Snow Leopard (/System/Library/Image Capture/Tools) - this will get the action working again.

  • How can I change the background color of a contact sheet?

I'm making my contact sheet just fine but it's on a white background, and I'd like to change it to a darker gray. This functionality existed in an earlier version of Bridge but I'm not seeing it now that contact sheet is now in Photoshop. Any ideas? Thanks!

This functionality existed in an earlier version of Bridge but I'm not seeing it now that contact sheet is now in Photoshop.
    Say what?
Anyway in Photoshop’s Contact Sheet II just don’t check "Flatten All Layers" and you can then add the intended background to the resulting files.

  • Is it possible to change the number of rows while printing a contact sheet in Iphoto? Please help

Hi guys, I am struggling to find out how to change the number of rows on a contact sheet on Iphoto , i have selected my photos and i want it to print 6 photos on each page however I am not able to do it.      Please help me out, im a Art student and i need to submit my contact sheets for an assignment  Thanks in advance guys !!!!!

I don't think you can do that with the Contact Sheet layout.  If you have Pages or a 3rd party image editor that supports layers you can do what you want.  Or try the demo version of OmniGraffle for Mac It will run fully operational for 14 days.

  • Error message for contact sheet II command - program error

I am trying to create a contact sheet in photoshop elements editor (I have done this before so I know how to do it), but when I go ahead and click on the button an error message pops up: " the operation could not be completed. the file or directory could not be found. then I click on OK and another error message: could not complete the contact sheet II command because of a program error. HELP. this command was working fine 2 weeks ago

Which operating system and version of photoshop elements are you using?
The cause is usually because the folder that had been specified in the contact sheet ii dialog has been moved, deleted or renamed.
If your on a mac os go to
(user) Library\Preferences\Adobe\Plugins\Adobe Contact Sheet II PSE12\Elements
    and delete the
    Adobe Contact Sheet PSE12 Prefs
hopefully you should be able to use the Contact Sheet II plugin again.
To see your user Library, in the Finder Go menu press the Option key and then you should see Library listed on the Go menu.

  • Contact sheet in elements 12

I was using elements 12 to make a contact sheet, it worked at first but now I get an error "Could not complete the Contact Sheet II command because of a program error."I have followed instructions for preferences does anyone have any other ideas?

Are you using the mac version or the windows version? It's very different between the two. On a mac you must be in the editor in expert mode to create a contact sheet, which you do by going to File>Contact Sheet II. If it's grayed out, you probably need to click the word Expert at the top of the editor window.
99jon has been giving you the windows directions. The red and green buttons you mention usually only appear in the editor and you need to be in the organizer in windows.

  • Remove white lines in contact sheet ?

    Hi,
I made a contact sheet with 20 b+w  images but there are really annoying white lines in a grid between the pics.  I cannot find a way to remove them - short of drawing black lines over each of them.  I set the spacing to 0.0 cm  .  My sheet is 80cm square with 20 perfect size jpgs of 20 * 16 cm each.
I am stuck .  Even making a black canvas makes no difference.

What software did you use to make the contact sheet?
I assume the white lines are the image borders.

  • Does anyone know if there is a way to customize a contact sheet in iPhoto 9.5?

The older version allowed moving of images as well as choosing which images to use in a contact sheet.  I was using this feature to email PDF sheets of work photos to clients.  Now,  if I try to print the pre-arranged contact sheet to PDF the images so very large, and impossible to email.  Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.

I fixed this myself.  Deleted Iphoto 9.5 and restored 9.4.3 from Time Machine.  All is good.

  • Contact sheet border

how can i add a border to each image on the contact sheet?

how can i add a border to each image on the contact sheet?
You can't do so in either Output Module in Bridge or Contact sheet II script in Ps. Both are nice features but limited options.
And what do you mean with border?
If it is a stroke surrounding the image itself you can create an action in PS to add a stroke to the file and for instance also reduce file size, use a save as command (to keep your original untouched and keep the same file name) to a specific folder and use this folder to create your contact sheets. With the action saved (and tested) you can select the files in Bridge, choose menu Tools / photoshop / batch and search for the new action. Hit Ok and you only have to wait a few minutes while PS is doing the work for you.
If you mean a stroke between the images I have no idea. If you have InDesign there is a third party contact sheet script that offers more options, but I don't know very much of this script.

  • Problems moving layers

I've been an Elements user for 10 years, using PE12 since June. I just recently had a problem moving layers both within and between files. When working on a file if I try to drag and drop a layer it just snaps back to where it was. I can move the layers with the arrow keys but this takes entirely to long. I don't understand why this just now started happening. I can open my previous version, PE 6 and move layers as I always did but since I paid to upgrade to PE12 it would be nice to be able to use it. Any input on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Kirsten
