Moving layers while maintaining correct proportions

I make patterns using Photoshop CS2 and Elements 7. I want to be able to make files ( which are usually 1 inch) then drag many of them to a 8 X 10 inches blank page to print. This is to conserve special paper.  I have a problem with layers changing size when dragged to the 8 x10 sheet. How can I correct this? I have used the help option in both programs but I don’t think I am using the correct terminology to find the answer. My operating systems is Windows 7.
Thank you for any help
Nikki

Set up your pixel counts and pixels/inch values in all your documents correctly ahead of time and the pattern images will be the right size when you place them on the "master" image.
For example, if you want 8 images across your page at 600 ppi, do this:
Create your master document at 8 inches x 10 inches at 600 ppi.
Create your individual pattern documents at 1 inches x 1 inches at 600 ppi.

  • Crystal Reports - OLE image maintain correct proportions

    I'm using a CR 2008 to report off of a Oracle database.
    The report consists of a three images per page.
    The image comes from an OLE object which shows the image dynamically from an image path field as the graphic location.
    My images are not all the same size....  Some are taller and some are wider than others.
    So when these images display in a set area, some get squashed vertically and others horizontally.  It's important tha the images maintain the correct aspect ratios.
    I've played with "size and position", "can grow", "scaling" and "size", but still can't seem to make the scaling and proportions work for all my images.
    Any advice from the experts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Jason, Dale
    I have tried a multitude of different (and some crazy) combinations of parameters etc.  I've also tried sub-reports wtih different parameters.
    Nothing seems to work to include various sized images into a fixed frame and maintain proprtionality.  It's a frustrating issue.
    For new development of images that will be include in the report the image must meet the very strict size requirements.  This is the only way to manage the image inclusion.
    Thank you Jason for the link to some re-sizing software - this will be good to use with historic images.
    If there is anyone out there that has some different ideas on how to handle this let us all know....... Please
    Kindest regards

  • How to overlay an image onto separate layers while maintaining separate layers and adding no layers?

    I have a 6400x6400 image that I have divided into 100 640x640 layers. I want to overlay an separate image over the entire 6400x6400 document while making the individual layers hold part of the overlayed image.
    An anaology would be this:
    Imagine that I have created a giant board (6400x6400) and I have cut it into small pieces, where each piece is it's own layers. I want to put a picture to that entire puzzle, so that each layer holds a part of the picture and the picture is not it's own layer, but made up of the smaller layers.

    Here's one way to do it, I added the image in as a new layer, and used Clipping Masks to clip them to the layers.
    You can merge them into one layer by selecting both layers, right click and Merge Layers:
    Hope this helps!

  • Moving disks while maintaining Solaris 10 install from one v240 to another.

    Hi,
    I want to move a Solaris 10 install from a sunfire v240
    with a single cpu to another sunfire v240 with dual cpu's. Here are the
    details of the hosts as well as configuration.
    I have 2 sunfire v240's. One has a single 1 Ghz cpu and the second has
    dual 1.5 Ghz cpu. I want to move the disks of the single cpu host to
    the host with dual cpu's. I want to keep the installed version of
    Solaris 10 intact. The installation of Solaris is split across 2
    mirrored disks, i.e. 4 disks in total. I am using Suns volume manager
    for mirroring and also have one files system mirrored with zfs.
    The questions I have are the following:
    1) Can I simply shut down the servers and swap the disks to the
    destination host, in the same disk slots? The controllers the disks are
    on line up and are the same between the 2 hosts.
    2) Will the kernel pickup the changes moving from a single 1 Ghz cpu to
    dual 1.5. Ghz cpu's with out any problems? Will the kernel pickup the
    faster cpu's speeds. i.e. will it know it is now running dual 1.5. Ghz
    cpu opposed to a single 1 Ghz?
    3) Would we have to break the mirroring on the OS before shutting it
    down?
    4) As another option, instead of swapping disks, could we swap the
    cpus? Move the dual 1.5. Ghz cpu's to the other host? Will the
    motherboards read the updates of the cpu or are their jumper settings we
    would need to update?
    Thanks for your help.

    I know there are many factors, but I'm pretty new to both unix & oracle, so I >needed some general steps to get me started. You have many options.
    Since you're in 10g, Have the Target Database created in Solaris 10 x86, Oracle 11g.
    you can use,
    RMAN - Cross platform Transportable Tablespaces.

  • How can I enable Active Directory network login while maintaining the existing local user account data?

    We have a user base of around 15 Macs that we would like to integrate into Active Directory. However, we need to maintain the existing users local account data but do not wish to have that data moved to the network. Is there an easy way to create the AD login and then move the existing account data to the new login while maintaining correct permissions?
    I've had some success logging in as root and deleting the existing account, while maintaining the home folder. Then renaming it to match the AD login account name and replacing the new and empty AD user home.  I then perform a CHOWN on that folder to give ownership to the AD account name.
    Is it this simple? I don't want to leave any loose ends.
    Thanks for any help you can provide,

  • Creating an 11x17 booklet while maintaining file quality/size

    I regularly use Pages for newsletter production - my newsletters must be in 11x17 format when submitted to a printer for production. I do not have InDesign or Quark - I'm trying to avoid the expense, quite honestly.
    So: when I have completed a Pages document, I must convert to 11x17. I currently use Cocoa Booklet to do this. However, much to my dismay, I've found that the size/quality of my document takes a nose dive when I convert to 11x17 format with Cocoa Booklet!
    I want to give my file to the printer in the highest possible resolution. One of the newsletters I do frequently contains artwork, and the creator deserves decent quality images in the final printed product.
    So my question is: is there any way to create an 11x17 document from a Pages document while maintaining the original document quality?
    Thank you!

    See the other post for the problem of assembling an imposed set of pages. Usually though your commercial printer will handle this. If they can't I really wonder whether they should be handling the job.
    The core problem of resolution and quality suitable for commercial printing is however a problem with the colorsync quartz filters used by OSX to produce PDF-X files. Apple has set these up wrong and made them well nigh impossible to correct.
    If anyone out there can give detailed step by step instructions how to alter the filters in Colorsync Utility and make them appear correctly and consistently in the printer options, I and many others will be eternally grateful.
    As it stands the output reduces many graphics, effects and even some text to an unacceptable 72dpi pixellation.
    The inking is wildly over what commercial printing requires. Normally this should never total more than 320% to prevent smearing, pooling and overwetting and bubbling the paper.
    The filters do not provide the crop marks, bleeds or printer's slugs needed for production.
    The filters do not allow targeting of the individual printer's equipment and settings.
    There is no transparency or documentation of the process nor its effects which makes it difficult to control or know if it is correct (as it stands it is not).
    Danger, Danger Will Robinson! Do not use!
    Not much else can be said until Apple corrects this and stops misleading its users into thinking they (Apple) are actually providing a solution. In reality they have created a massive problem.
    I pray that someone has finally been listening and this gets fixed in Snow Leopard.

  • Resize flash movie while maintaining aspect ratio?

    Hey all,
    We have created an extremely content heavy .swf file (1900 x
    1400) for a presentation that runs full screen on a monitor at a
    screen resolution of 1900 x 1400. I think that was the
    resolution... I've been away from the project for a while and I
    can't remember. anyways....
    now we need to shrink the .swf down to a more reasonable size
    so that we can make a cd rom out of it. Probably needs to be shrunk
    to about 800 x 600. Is there an easy way to shrink the .swf in
    flash from 1900 x 1400 to 800 x 600 while maintaining aspect ratio
    and keeping all items on stage?
    I sure hope so! I'd hate to have to recreate the entire
    thing! It was a HUUUGE project with a ton of content.
    Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!!!!

    Hey all.... I am just now working on this project.
    I've created my .fla file and I'm trying to load a .swf into
    an empty movie clip. It didn't scale down like I want it to and it
    was still appearing as the normal size file. So I added the
    container._height = 500; and container._width = 800; When I added
    the width and height the .swf inside the empty mc container
    disappeared!!!!! Any idea why???
    Here is my code:
    stop();
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("container",
    this.getNextHighestDepth());
    loadMovie("hlhuntyears.swf", container);
    container._width = 800;
    container._height = 500;
    container._x = 0;
    container._y = 0;
    I export it as an .exe since its going to be a cd rom and
    when I double click the .exe to run it I get a blank screen. But
    when I take out height and width it shows up but not to the correct
    scale. The original file (hlhuntyears.swf) is 1440 x 900 and when I
    run the .exe I can only see a tiny piece of it. Can anybody help??
    please??

  • Image slow to refresh on HD monitor while color correcting

    Hi, and Happy New Year, all!
    We have an annoying issue, and wondered if anyone else had the same experience.
    Our project is HD, ProRes 422, 23.98fps, working in FCS2, MacPro with a Kona LH card outputting to a Sony CRT HD monitor via SDI.
    The issue is, that while color correcting, either moving from frame to frame, or grading a shot, the monitor sometimes refreshes straight away to display the change, but sometimes takes a second, and sometimes doesn't change at all. So, for example, if I bring the saturation of a shot all the way down, the preview window shows the change, but the monitor doesn't. This makes it very difficult to work out whether the changes are correct!
    Anyone seen this happen?
    thanks!
    Matt

    The video output is actually set to 10-bit 1080psf/29.97. Oddly enough, that was the only setting that would play smoothly out through an HDLink to an Apple 23" LCD, and the Sony CRT that we now have only accepts 29.97 anyway.
    You think it's a frame rate conversion issue in the Kona? I see there are now v.5 drivers for the LHe - might see if they help any.
    thanks
    Matt

    I'm using Acrobat Pro 9 and I need a way to batch convert PDF files to RTF while maintaining the original folder structure.  So for instance, I might get a set of interview transcripts that were conducted with members of 1000 randomly selected households in 3 different cities.  Something like this, where the words in all caps are folder names:

    As u can see, the folder structure can get quite complicated and it's important to keep it the same.  Is there any way I can batch convert without having to open all 1000 files at once (which would crash the computer) or without having to add each subfolder to the Export Multiple Files window?
    I also tried saving the original folders and files in a portfolio and then converting the portfolio, but that puts all the converted files in a single folder.

    Bernd Alheit wrote:
    For the output location choose 'Same Folder as Original(s)'
    Yes, I've done that many times.  It doesn't put them in the correct folder structure, it just puts all the new files in the highest-level folder.

  • Cropping in PS while Maintaining Aspect Ratio and DPI

    I shoot the Nikon D3, RAW (.NEF) and convert through ACR. Through ACR, the DPI is set to 300 DPI; the DPI caries over to Photoshop.
    I crop in Photoshop using the crop tool (not marquee). To maintain 2:3 or 3:2 aspect ratios, the crop tool requires the width and height in inches or pixels. If specifying resolution, the document size will crop to that DPI, if not; the DPI is derived from pixel dimensions.
    In my case, I’ve been cropping at 2in by 3in (or reverse for orientation). The resulting “real” image pixel dimensions are still very high (correct to crop size) but the document size reported in PS is 2in by 3in with a wildly high DPI. By changing the resolution back to 300 DPI through Photoshop, the document size returns to normal. Therefore the picture has not lost anything; it appears to only be a function of the Meta data. The pixel dimensions remain constant while the document size and DPI change.
    It apears that you canot specify an aspect ratio via the crop tool without defining it in inches or cm. You can do it with the marquee tool but the marquee tool sucks for cropping. You can however crop in ACR with the crop tool by merely specifying the aspect ratio (not in inches or cm). In summary, the PS crop tool is based in inches or cm while the ACR crop tool is simply aspect ratio.
    What I can do to crop in PS while maintaining aspect ratio and defined DPI. Is there a work-around, magic trick, or something else I can do to fool the PS crop tool into an aspect ratio not based in inches or cm?

    Just to summarize:
    Setting a dimensioned ratio (e.g., 2 in by 3 in for Width and Height) in the Crop tool without filling in a Resolution value yields a crop with the desired aspect ratio, and without any resampling.
    There is no way to specify a ratio with the crop tool, specifically, as the OP has requested, though in a future version perhaps specifying simple numbers there without any units might be a way Adobe could facilitate this.  It would be a nice addition and with little downside.
    I guess what I don't understand, though, is why the OP cares about the "high" resulting dpi value?  It's just a number.
    Expanding on this, the Resolution is nothing but a metadata value that can be changed at will (e.g., through Image - Image Size... - uncheck Resample) at any time in the future.  There is ALWAYS a Resolution value associated with the image, both before and after the crop (though the crop tool may end up changing it; so what?).  In short, the Resolution is just an arbitrary figure until such time as the user wants to use the image for a purpose (e.g. printing).
    Always think in terms of pixel dimensions (number of pixels horizontally and vertically) while editing, then think about dpi right before publishing.  It's hard to go wrong this way.

  • How do I make image backgrounds black and white while maintaining color in the foreground objects?

    I have a close up close-up image of an orchid with blurred background.  I am trying to make the background black and white while maintaining the foreground color on the petals, buds and stems.  Any ideas?

    Use the Blank & White Brick and either brush the effect onto the background or brush is away from the foreground.  "Detect Edges" will help control the edge of the mask.
    You might be interested in knowing that you can brush on/away masks of different strengths, and thus produce effects in between 0% and 100%.

  • Can i perform SDK 7 Compilation while maintaining SDK6 look and feel for my App

    In our organization we test the App using visual specs and our existing visual specs are aligned with SDK 6 look and feel. When i compile my app with SDK 7 the visual display of the App changes completely and is no longer in sync with the visual specs used for testing. As SDK 7 compilation is a mandate for post Feb 1 submission, is it possible to compile the code with SDK 7 while maintaining SDK 6 visual look and feel?

    What i am actually trying to do is to maintain the existing SDK6 UI Look and Feel on iOS7. Apple has issued a mandate to have all Apps compiled with SDK7 for App Store submission post Feb1, 2014. If i compile with SDK7, even if i set the deployment target as iOS6, when my app runs on iOS7 it will have the new Apple's iOS7 look and feel. How can i accomplish this?
