Moving Library - Permission Error (Windows Vista)

I'm trying to move my iTunes media to an external hard drive, but I keep getting a Permission error when I try to consolidate my library. I've searched for ways to fix the permissions, but the only answers I've found are for Mac and I have Windows Vista.
Here's what I did on iTunes:
Edit>Preferences>Advanced
I clicked "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library"
Then next to "iTunes Media Folder Location" I hit Change and selected my external hard drive F: and the folder within it titled "iTunes Media Folder 2" and hit OK.
Then I hit:
File>Library>Organize Library>Consolidate Files
But then I receive this permissions error message:
"Copying failed because you don't have permission to change your iTunes Media Folder or a folder within it."
I tried going into my Music folder (not on iTunes, on my actual computer) to try and see what's wrong:
Start>Music>(Right click) iTunes folder>Properties>Security
And I have full control to edit/read/write, etc. so I have no idea what's going on.
Help, please?

To be more specific,
all the security type on bin directory property - on control, read, write, all have been granted.
I click on the bin directory, it is showing read only, then I uncheck it, and click apply to all subdirectories and confirm.
Then I check the bin directory property again, it is still showing read only.
thanks again

  • Error: Windows Vista failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause

    PLEASE HELP!
My Lenovo SL500 is not working at all - I get error: "Windows Vista failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause"
I tried the following on my Lenovo:
Windows repair menu = "windows cannot be repaired"
    Lenovo Rescue and Repair
Rescued my files from Hard-drive (copied to external hdd)
    Restore System = Failed
Diagnose hardware = HDD passes all tests
Don't know what else to do with = Boot from another device ? Access BIOS?
Because I do not have the windows vista install disks
I purchased and downloaded the recovery disks from neosmart.net
The neosmart windows vista recovery disks DO NOT WORK = Error is "Unable to find any valid Windows partitions on this computer".
The Hard-drive exists because I was able to back-up files from HD through (Lenovo Rescue & Recovery Rescue files). So there is a hard-drive.
I don't know what to do next?
Last resort is to Factory Restore via either the Lenovo R&R or Windows Vista Recovery Disks (neosmart)?
    Will I still have windows?
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hi, Josemne
Yes, if you can restore the system through Rescue & Recovery, then you will still have WIndows on your machine, but all your files will be deleted from the hard drive. Luckily, you have already saved those files elsewhere. I would recommend trying to restore the system and see if that works.
    Best,
    Adam

  • ITunes "cannot save library file" error in Vista

I just began ripping my latest pile of cd's into iTunes on my new Vista Media Center PC. Occasionally I get the popup "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for thei operation" I checked and double checked the security on all of the iTunes files and folders, and not only do I (the system administrator), but also SYSTEM and Everyone have full access to the folder and files. My library is in C:\Users\Jerry\Music\iTunes\ , which is the default installation directory selected by iTunes. I have almost 11,000 songs, and I have already completely rebuilt the library in this version of iTunes as a means to try to resolve this problem. I am on iTunes 7.2.0.16 , everything on the PC is up to date, and I see nothing that makes this error seem correct. Has anyone else seen this, and do you have a fix? What are the implications of NOT saving the file? Thanks, Jerry

Same issue here. Running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition and newest version of iTunes. Normally happens when I am ripping a CD into iTunes and by chance multi task or the screen saver kicks in.
What ***** is if you walk away while ripping a CD(because it takes 3 times as long in iTunes vs any other ripper), and it will halt your ripping until you click "ok". I have not tried the "dont tell me again" check box just in case it is a problem I need to know about. This happened about 2 or 3 days after upgrading to Vista and I got an empty library the next time I opened the library. Somehow it got corrupted. Luckily I back up the xml file and just restored that one file from last back up.
(off subject but also getting the maxed our processor still in the newest version for Windows Vista. Wish they would fix that!)

  • Network Folder Setup - "No Write Permission". Windows Vista.

    Product: 8600 N911g
I am having issues in creating a network folder to scan to my computer. It responds ‘No write permission’
**NOTE**Before I allow you to continue reading, I need to first know to I need to create a password in my user account, or turn off UAC to create a scan network folder on my PC? If so, then that is what I need to do to correct this issue.
Steps I have performed in attempting to accomplish this task:
In Windows to create shared folder:
    1) Created folder.
    2) Open folder properties, under 'sharing' tab, selected 'Share' button, then selected 'Share' button.
    3) A dialog window appears and states 'Sharing items', and when it is complete, it states "Your folder is shared. You may e-mail these links to notify people that you have shared these files, or copy the links onto the Windows clipboard, where you can paste them into any program you choose.”
    4) When I select ‘Done’, it returns to the folder properties, and states in ‘Network File and Folder Sharing’ under ‘Sharing’ tab under ‘Network Path’: ‘Not Shared’.
**I don’t understand that it just said ‘Your folder is shared’, then under Network Path is stated ‘Not Shared’.**
    5) Since in stated ‘Not Shared’, I selected ‘Advanced Sharing’, checked ‘Share this folder’ box, and under ‘Permissions’, checked ‘Full Control’ box.
    6) Now it states Shared, and under ‘Network Path’ states the location: ‘ \\ADMIN-PC\ScantoDV9825 ’
In the HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g, Embedded Web Server to add network folder to scan to:
    1) Opened ‘Scan’ section by clicking on the tab ‘Scan’. Under ‘Network Folder Setup’, the ‘Network Folder Configuration’ clicked on ‘New’.
    2) Entered data for the following fieldsTEP 1 OF 4: Display Name: ‘Scan’, Network Path: ‘\\ADMIN-PC\ScantoDV9825’. Left User Name and Password fields blank. STEP 2 OF 4: Left PIN fields blank. STEP 3 OF 4: Did not make any changes, used default settings.
    3) In STEP 4 OF 4 when I click on Save and Test, it returns with the message ‘No write permission’
How do I resolve this issue of ‘No write permission’?
    Thank you.

    Hi Robert,
First ensure the permissions are also set correctly by right clicking the shared folder, and then open the Security tab.
If your user name is not listed as Full Control click the edit button, add your user name and check the box for as Allow full control.
If that does not help, follow these steps in Windows Vista to make sure that your computer is configured to allow network sharing.
Step one: Make sure that the computer user account is password protected
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
Click User Accounts , and then select the account you used to log into the computer.
Click Change your Windows password , and then find the user account you used to log into the computer.
If the user account is password protected , continue to the next step.
If the user account is not password protected , click Create a password for your account to create a password, and then continue to the next step.
Step two: Define the network location
Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Control Panel .
    Click Network and Internet .
Click Network and Sharing Center .
Click Customize next to Your Network . The Set Network Location window opens.
Select Private , click Next , and then click Close .
Step three: Make sure that the network sharing and discovery options are correct
Open the Network and Sharing Center window.
In the Sharing and Discovery section, make sure that the following network options are set to On :
    Network Discovery
    File Sharing
    Public Folder Sharing (password required)
    Printer Sharing (password required)
    Password Protected Sharing
Your computer network is now successfully set to complete the Scan and Fax to Network Folder or Digital Fax to Network Folder Wizard.

  • Moving library from XP to vista

Hey guys i just purchased my new laptop with vista on it. I moved all the music from my music folder on xp into my music folder in vista. i also moved my itunes folder including my library and stuff. When i imported my old library into the newly installed itunes on my laptop, it recovered everything including all my songs, ratings, and playlists. The only thing is though, that it marked every song as "not found". so i basically have to put all the songs in and then delete all the duplicates? or is there another way to import the library from xp to vista?
    Thanks so much

Quit iTunes on teh Vista machine.
    Copy the entire
    \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ folder from XP
    to
    \Music\ on Vista.
Start iTunes. Everything should be there and work fine.

[nVidia Series] Installing Windows Vista and drivers

    hello welcome to the forums
do you mean that you have a windows xp that came as a part of a lenovo system?and you want to upgrade it to vista using vlite or your own customized vista installation right?i think you must be quite familiar in slipstreaming service packs into windows installation discs and ofcourse you can also include drivers and all stuff like wallpapers if you like!
if you have further quiries regarding slipstreaming service packs go through the link given below
    http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/xpsp3_slipstream.asp
if you are confortable with slipstreaming you will be able to slipstream lenovo's drivers into the iso image

  • Recovery Disk Creation Error (Windows Vista / Satillite A200)

    Hello Everyone,
I have a Satellite A200 running Vista.  This is inherited so I will do the best to describe the issue:
Mainly because it's inherited and running terrible I wanted to wipe the drive back to factory settings:
When creating the disks, it get about 1/2 way through the first one, then gives an error similar to:
    Unable to Read (drive)\ZZImages\ZZImages\preinst.swm.
I unfortunately did not write down the specific error message, and I will make a new frisbee if required to find out (unless it has a log?)
It happened once while at the previous owners posestion, so before running it myself I can a chkdsk on the C Drive.
There was a 2nd partition, 5GB that's empty, as well as a HIDDEN partition (unsure of size) that had quite a few files on it.
I had inspected the systems within Linux which reads everything fine, then set the chkdsk flag (Dirty Bit) to ensure a full scan of the C drive.
Any suggestions as to what I can do would be great.

Scanning the C: drive won't have any affect on this.  The images are storred in the larger hidden partition that you should NOT scan.  Since it happened to the original owner and to yourself it's fiarly obvious that the problem lies in the recovery partition.  Your best bet at this time would be to order a replacement set of recovery disks from Toshiba.  See the second post in this Recovery Forum for details.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Pacman library permission error

I recompiled the packages firefox, xulrunner, and kernel26 today. I just performed a pacman -Qi on some package and got the error that /var/lib/pacman/local/kernel26-2.6.27.6-1 and /var/lib/pacman/local/firefox-3.0.4-1 could not be read. I checked those directories and discovered that they had 700 permissions, rather than 755. Easily fixed, but an odd problem to come across.
I find it an odd coincidence that the only two packages with that problem were ones I've recompiled recently (past 8 hours), but I also find it odd that the other recompiled package didn't have a problem. And the common denominator for the recompiled packages would seem to be that they were installed vi pacman -U, so if there was an error with the library updates it would be pacman's fault.
Anyone else have a problem similar to this?

This is because of the recent changes to sudo (I've posted a thread about this, it's still in the ABS forum though because I thought it was an ABS issue at first: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=59483).
Long story short: The sudo devs decided to change the way the sudo default umask works. If the user's umask is more restrictive than the default sudo one, sudo will use the user's mask now.
I think it's unbelievably stupid to force the user to change his umask to run things as root with sudo. I also wonder how many people borked file permissions all over their system because of this.

  • Do I try to transfer itunes library to my Windows Vista, or upgrade my mac?

    Hi,
This is my first time posting, and I was wondering if someone could help me out. I'm pretty computer illiterate so if someone could talk me through exact steps, I'd really appreciate it.
My husband got a new iphone 4 and it won't work on our mac. (Mac is version 10.4.11) He was able to sync it to our windows computer (did homeshare), but all of our music is on the mac. Is there any way to transfer all of our music, apps etc... to the other computer, or should we just try to download an upgrade to the mac. My husband isn't sure if an upgrade will work on our mac. My kids have 3GS iphones and they still need the songs on the mac. Can I have the songs on multiple computers? What about songs that were purchased years ago? How exactly do I transfer it all?
    Any advice would be appreciated

Does anyone know if the model I have:
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac11,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 2.3 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.15 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.7f1
will be able to download Mac OS 10.5.8 (or some other software that can be upgraded to that)
or if my computer is too old. (It is not a fossil)
I was wondering what software I would need, and where to get it. I didn't want to bother the geniuses because I figure with all that is going on at the stores these days, they are probably so busy. I was wondering if there was anyone here that is computer savvy that would know.
    TIA

  • Fatal error installing software photosmart c7250 on windows vista 32 bit

Issue with Uninstall and Install print driver software on my PC - printer is HP Photosmart all in one C7250 - wireless network hook-up
My printer had been working for many years.  Then some of the photo print functionality had stopped working - I suspect because there may have been a conflict with multiple HP print drivers on my PC.  So I attempted to Unistall all HP software (via window uninstall).  All successfully uninstalled except:
    C:\program files/hp/digital imaging\esupport\hpzscr01.exe
    C:\program files/hp/digital imaging\ocr\hpzscr01.exe
    C:\pro...
    C:\pr...
I was able to manually unistall the first 2 files since I could see where they were located.  But I have no idea about the other 2 becasue the error message did not provide full name as you can see.  I tried to install anyway (using HP Solution for Install Errors - Windows Vista).  Followed all instructions.  The install of latest driver/software (downloaded from the HP website) got as far as detecting my wireless printer; then it gets stuck at the config stage at 96% for 15+ minutes - then runtime error situation code 07417929.  HELP!  I think it's all becasue I can't unistall these phantom files.  does anyone have advice?
    ---------------- More INFO ---------------------
After above, I am able to print in the basic way - but my HP Solution Center Software in not operational.  Message when I try to open Solution Center is "No HP Devices habe been detected."
I have a LOG file with some PRT Screens that I wish I could attach to this note (can't figure out how).  It may give more insight to the errors.

The security settings are for local security, if you are not in a corporate enviroment, there should be no reason to worry.
Something we have not tried yet would be to
    1. Uninstall the current HP software.
    2. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    3. Install the software, and at the point it asks whether it is a wireless or wired connection, choose wireless, and when the configuration window pops up immediately cancel it.
    4. It will go back to the page that asks you if it is a wired or wireless connection, choose cancel again and select OK.
    5. It will finish installation then ask about placing an icon on the desktop, choose yes and tell it to complete the software installation and place an icon on the desktop.
    6. Once that completes, plug in the printer, turn it on, and click on the icon to have it search for, configure, and install the printer.
    Let me know what happens.

  • IPhone Syncing Problems (Windows Vista)

I've ran into a problem, where I can't sync any of my photos, i've seen problems but not like this, almost all the time when i sync my photos it gives me a blue screen error (windows vista) sometimes it will sync some of them but they arent viewable or even able to find on the phone, another problem im having is i have 3 computers and i cant sync my 3 librarys on my iphone i want all 3 to be the same any ideas... thanks,
    greg

    greg,
This article may help with your blue screens when you are trying to sync photos:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306048
Also, you can only sync to one computer at a time. Therefore, you will not be able to use the iPhone with 3 different libraries without erasing what's on the iPhone when you sync it with a new computer. You can find more information about syncing in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.3/en/2626win.html
If you want all 3 libraries to have the same content, you would need to copy the content on each computer to all the others. For more information on how to transfer your iTunes content to each computer, check out this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93366
    Good luck!

  • ITunes no longer works on my Windows VISTA system.  Get error msg saying C runtime library incorrectly... Error 7, Windows error 1114..

iTunes no longer works on my Windows VISTA system.  Get error msg saying an application is attempting to access C runtime library incorrectly... Error 7, Windows error 1114.  Same msg, or one that says unable to install, when trying to update or reinstall iTunes.  iTunes worked well up until about a month ago when this error msg starting appearing.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
