Yes. Uninstall Lightroom on your old machine and Install Lightroom on the new laptop.
Uninstalling won't delete your catalog files.
Then copy your catalog files (.lrcat, .lrdata) to your new laptop.
By default the files are located in a folder called Lightroom in your Pictures Folder.

I had gotten Lightroom as a birthday present a couple of years ago. The computer that I had it on crashed and I'm wondering if there is a way to download it on my new laptop. I do not have the serial number and didn't think to register it. My old laptop is not useable so all of my data is lost. If you have no proof of purchase and no record for the serial number then there is not much you can expect.

Then all I can suggest is that you double check your serial number. If you registered your software you can check your account on Adobe and double check to make sure you have the number right.

If you did register it back then, open your Adobe account with your Adobe ID and you will find it there: Find your serial number quickly
If you still have it installed, open the System info in Help menu or look here:

Moving lightroom library onto new PC

I have an extensive lightroom library on my laptop and have just bought a new PC operating Windows Vista as my laptop was out of hard disk. I have installed Lightroom 1.3 onto the new PC and now want to move my existing library in. I have backed up my existing library onto a separate external hard drive, and then connected this to the new PC. For some reason although my laptop runs the old library off the external hard drive with no problem the new PC will not do this and says there are no photos in the library when I open lightroom off the external hard drive.
Any ideas how to get my pictures onto the new machine? I don't want 2 libraries! Both machines are running 1.3.

The new PC is probably opening a default library. Look at the Preferences and set them so you're asked to choose which library to open.

Moving ARD license to new laptop

I just got a new Macbook Pro and transferred everything from my old laptop.
I want to transfer the license/serial number for ARD from my old laptop to the new one. Are there any special steps I need to take?
Ever since I did this transfer, ARD does not connect from my new laptop. I am working remotely to my network via VPN. This works fine, but ARD gets an authentication error when attempting to connect to any remotes machines from the new laptop.
But it still works fine on the old laptop. Any ideas?

You have to reauthenticate to each computer in your ARD lists.

Moving itune to the new laptop !! but where is all my apps

Hi, we got new laptop (windows 7), so my husband did manage to sort out how to transfer our music from our old laptop itune to the new one but i'm sure how to transfer all the apps as yet. We got ipad and 2 iphones.. so there are lots of apps there to transfer. We're on minimum usage internet plan.. so what is the best way to transfer our apps to our new laptop without wasteing our internet usage. Thanks

Does anybody know if there is a way to sync the apps that retains the folder structure? I have a new computer (the old one is totally dead)and want to sync it with my iPhone. I've used the "transfer purchases from iPhone" command but as far as I can see, that has just transferred the apps. If I want the folders back I'm going to have to do that manually, which would be a pain since I have about 150 apps to shift about.

Hi.. i would like to know if it is possible to move my copy of L3 from my old laptop to my new laptop, and how. I also hv a copy of it already in my desktop. Any help is appreciated. Tks!

You should be able to get your music back, but probably not the playlists.
What I have done is taken a screenshot of the playlist I want to keep, save it (or print it off), and then find the songs in the new library/computer and drag them to the new playlist.

Moving Lightroom to a new computer

This question arises from my use of Lightroom, but the answer might apply to all licensed Adobe products. I have CS2, Elements 4, and Lightroom for the MAC.
I have just acquired an Intel-based iMac running OS 10.5.1. I want to move all my photography applications to the new computer. What is the best method, considering that I am moving them from a PowerPC processor system (Powerbook G4) to an Intel iMac?
Should I reinstall from scratch? Is there some restriction on having it on two computers? If so, I want each program on my new computer and am willing to remove it from the old one. Can I move the .app file from one computer to the new one, or must I re-install?

I would first backup everything and then launch "Migration Assistant" from your Utilities folder, and launch the PPC in Target mode (hold down the T key on boot)- it's easy from there.
This should work fine on your new *Mac* [MAC stands for something else]. You could E-mail me for any Mac advice; post here for LR stuff. [email protected]
I don't know if your version of Elements or CS2 are Universal (meaning they will run on both PPC and Intel chips) or not, but give it a go, as I suspect they are. If not, just delete and install fresh.

It is unclear whether you’re asking about permission to put LR on a new computer, or more about the details of the process of moving things from one computer to the other.
As far as licensing and program installation, you are allowed as a single user to use LR on two different computers as long as you’re not using the two computers at the same time, so you can just download and install the latest update for whatever version you are using on your old computer to the new computer and input your serial number, again. If you are transferring LR5 then there is no update, just install from the original media or download the Try version to the new computer and input the serial number.
You can also move your catalog database file and images over to a new computer, but the exact details of that depend on where the images and catalog are on the old computer compared to where you want them on your new computer. Generally if you put them in the same relative locations then about all you’ll need to do is hook up the top-level folders with Locate Missing Folder command available from the right-click menu on each top-level folder The process will be easier if you actually move all your folders under as few of top-level folders as possible from within LR on the old computer before moving things to the new computer.
If you’ve created custom presets and/or installed LR plug-ins those will need to be moved or re-installed on the new so take stock of where all these are before you start the move.

Lightroom 5 - Re-installing existing licence to new laptop

I recently had an accident with my laptop. It is now dead. I want to re-install Lightroom 5 which I purchased as a download, I have the licence number. I have attempted downloading via free trial, as per forum suggestions but this forced me to download Creative Cloud and would not accept my licence number, says it is not applicable that I already have it. My understanding is that you can install the program onto two computers, as long as they both belong to the same person. I have spent a couple of hours fiddling around and am getting frustrated, can someone offer some advise please. thanks in advance

This seems to be a fairly frequent problem, it seems to be hard to find the non-CC version for download and the CC version won't work with a non CC license key.
So, here's what I believe you need to do:
Uninstall the CC version you've downloaded and installed.
Go to here http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
That should take you to the country-specific download page. I know it says updates but if you click on the Windows or Mac version of LR it's actually the whole program
Download and follow the instructions for installation and then enter your serial number when asked to.
Stand-alone LR does not need de-activating, you can install it on your new laptop with the old number without any problems. I've done it myself in the past as I've moved on to newer PCs. CC and pre-CC Photoshop does need de-activation but not non CC LR.

2-3 old ipod touch is no longer syncing to itunes library, which was recently moved to new laptop.

Recently moved my library of music, audiobooks, and podcasts to new laptop with Windows 8, at which time I upgraded my itunes software as well. My 2-3 year old ipod touch is no longer syncing properly. Audiobooks and podcasts are fine (after much effort), but all of two songs out of an extensive music library are the only ones syncing. I see them in my library on the new computer and have managed to sync them to my iphone 5 as well. Ipod touch appears to have ample file storage space left. What gives? Is the i-pod touch already useless with the latest Itunes software? Operator error? Hardware problem? I don't know what to think. Have been using ipods for years without this issue.

I have an old laptop running WinXP Home SP3 with iTunes 10.2x installed. I sync my old iPod Classic120GB and a newer iPod Touch 2nd Gen 8GB. I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7 Pro. I am moving everything to the new one. I did not have a problem with the old iPod. But when I tried to sync the Touch it just freezes while trying to backup the existing contents. I have read a few support docs and have tried some of them where I have to tweak some of Window's Admin tools. I have also uninstallled and installed iTunes. There are so many things to try in the troubleshooting steps that I can't really figure out which is which. I also can't backup the contents of my current iPod Touch by attaching the device and right-clicking on it. The Backup context menu just isn't there.
I currently have iTunes v10.3x and I need some "serious" help. :-) I did the Run Diagnostic with the device attached. I looked at the report and saw something that might be the cause. I am running iTunes not as the administrator. But if I try to run it as an admin, the Library is now different and I'm just "scared" to screw things up some more.

Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over. Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over? I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another. Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
