Moving Lightroom?

Can I move Lightroom 3.6 from one computer to abother?

you can install lightroom again on another computer with the same license, you are only allowed 2 installations.
Subject to the terms of the software license agreement, the primary user of the computer on which Lightroom is installed may install a second copy of the software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable computer or a home computer, provided that the software is not used on both computers at the same time. Lightroom is sold as multiplatform software, which means it can be installed on either Mac OS X or Windows.

I am moving lightroom to a new computer. The   installed program is refusing my serial number. What to I do?

Then all I can suggest is that you double check your serial number. If you registered your software you can check your account on Adobe and double check to make sure you have the number right.

  • Moving Lightroom to a new computer

This question arises from my use of Lightroom, but the answer might apply to all licensed Adobe products. I have CS2, Elements 4, and Lightroom for the MAC.
I have just acquired an Intel-based iMac running OS 10.5.1. I want to move all my photography applications to the new computer. What is the best method, considering that I am moving them from a PowerPC processor system (Powerbook G4) to an Intel iMac?
Should I reinstall from scratch? Is there some restriction on having it on two computers? If so, I want each program on my new computer and am willing to remove it from the old one. Can I move the .app file from one computer to the new one, or must I re-install?

    Robert-
I would first backup everything and then launch "Migration Assistant" from your Utilities folder, and launch the PPC in Target mode (hold down the T key on boot)- it's easy from there.
This should work fine on your new *Mac* [MAC stands for something else]. You could E-mail me for any Mac advice; post here for LR stuff. [email protected]
I don't know if your version of Elements or CS2 are Universal (meaning they will run on both PPC and Intel chips) or not, but give it a go, as I suspect they are. If not, just delete and install fresh.

  • Moving Lightroom Collections to Other Catalogs

Does anyone know if there is there a way to move a collection set from one Lightroom catalog to another Lightroom catalog?
My workflow is as this: I have all my image files contained within folders on my drive. My main workflow is to separate my images into collections and work from there.
I have two different catalogs I have been working in, but I really want to work in one master catalog. However, I can't seem to find a way to move the collection sets with all my settings into a new catalog without physically moving the files. Is there a way to move the collection set with it's information but not the files (and still have it tied to the files on my drive?)
I have tried to export the collection as a catalog, then import the catalog, but that way wants to move my files.
Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
    -Murphy

Thank you for the response! Any help is much appreciated!
I tried to export the collection as a catalog, I turned OFF export negative files....which does just give you the .lrcat file
However, when I go to import the catalog in my master catalog, I get the following error:
"This photo already exists in the current catalog and it's settings differ"
    It also says:
"There are 48 phtoos in your current catalog that are currently missing. These negative files can be found in the catalog you are importing"
It won't let me actually import anything.
    Am I missing a step?

  • Moving Lightroom images from  hardrive to external drives

How do I successfully move all of my existing Lightroom images from my hardrive to my external drives? I am so nervous to do this but have no more storage on my hardrive. thanks!

It also helps to reorganize things under a few top-level folders if they aren’t already, before moving them, so there are less reconnections to make after the move.
There have been some problems in the past for some people who use NAS or network drives for photos where a move loses files, so if that is what your external location is, then I’d suggest that you COPY the files and then rename the source folder(s) and then reconnect the photos in their new location and make sure everything is ok before deleting the photos off the original location on the internal drive.

  • Moving lightroom library onto new PC

    Hi there
I have an extensive lightroom library on my laptop and have just bought a new PC operating Windows Vista as my laptop was out of hard disk. I have installed Lightroom 1.3 onto the new PC and now want to move my existing library in. I have backed up my existing library onto a separate external hard drive, and then connected this to the new PC. For some reason although my laptop runs the old library off the external hard drive with no problem the new PC will not do this and says there are no photos in the library when I open lightroom off the external hard drive.
Any ideas how to get my pictures onto the new machine? I don't want 2 libraries! Both machines are running 1.3.
    Thanks!
    Jenni

The new PC is probably opening a default library. Look at the Preferences and set them so you're asked to choose which library to open.

  • Moving Lightroom Library & database

I have been using Lightroom 1.0 on my laptop, with the library & ldrb file held on an external hard drive. The external drive was set as drive I on the laptop.
I now want to use that library on my pc, have added the external HD to pc & configed as drive I. When trying to open that library from Lightroom on the pc I am getting the following error message:
    Runtime Error:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Lightroom\Lightroom.exe
    Abnormal Program Error
If I open an existing Lightroom library on the pc it opens OK.
Advice on how to be able to use the Library on the external hard drive on the pc would be apperciated.
Both Laptop & pc Are using WinXP Pro.
    Many thanks
    Tom

Tom - sorry to read that you are still having difficulties. As I said previously, this is exactly the same setup that I have and with me it runs perfectly. I would possibly suggest that you plug-in your EHD to the PC but DO NOT open LR. Then via explorer locate the EHD's lrdb file. By double-clicking on this LR should open - if not then it could be that the file is corrupt. I can't think of anything else to suggest - sorry.
Edit: Should just add that I can't help feeling that your problem is somehow related to you having re-assigned the drive letter as otherwise our setup is the same as previously mentioned.

  • Moving Lightroom Database.lrcat  to a diferent location

I think I have looked everywhere to find an answer to my problem I created too many libraries and it is very difficult to find my images. Now that I understand how LR works I understand the big mistake I made is there a way to export Lightroom Database.lrcat and create a new library without loosing all the info. that I have created?
I understand also that one should not have more than 10 thousand images per library is this correct? So I would have to create very specific libraries (ej: personal, architectural, portraits etc.)

    Ricardo-
I think the answer is yes, but I'd like to be clearer on what your questions are first.
If you are thinking of combining several Libraries, perhaps on a new external drive, you can do so with no loss of anything.
But do outline a bit more what your situation is.

  • Moving Lightroom Library

I have photographed on location for over a week and have been compiling images into lightroom on an iMac (G5 running Lightroom V. 1). I will return home and I would like to travel home with my external hard drive and download all of my photos in Lightroom V. 1 on my Mac Pro tower.
I have used my external hard drive as a backup of all the images. I want to transfer some of the editing work that I have done in Lightroom back home. Such as exposure compensations, print presets, folder renaming for instance.
Can anyone tell me the best way to intergrate the Lightroom work I have done so far back on my desktop at home?
    John G.

Depends on file type, but you need to write to xmp on all files and then you ought to be able to copy them to your tower and import them into LR 1.1 with the corrections.
You could also copy the files and library from 1.0 onto the tower and open that with 1.1.
Good thing is it will all be a little easier with the new catalogs.

  • Moving lightroom from PC to Mac

I have downloaded Lightroom 5 again on my new Mac however, my serial number will not work? Help

Yes, no problem.  These instructions are for LR4 but the same principles apply: http://members.lightroomqueen.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/1165/187/how-do-i- move-my-catalog-photos-and-other-lightroom-files-to-a-new-computer

  • Moving Lightroom to another computer

i have lightroom on my laptop but want to put it on my new pc, how do i do this?

if you want to migrate your catalog, http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/catalog-faq-lightroom.html
otherwise, just install lr on your new pc.
if you no longer want it on your laptop, deactivate it (help>deactivate) before uninstalling.

  • Moving Lightroom 3 from my PC to my MacPro

I have lightroom 3 on my PC.  I want to uninstall from the PC and reinstall on the MacPro.
    How do I do this?

Normally all you need to do is to download the installer from Adobe's website (https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4927 )and simply enter the serial number. No need to uninstall. However, there is a big chance that Lightroom 3 won't work on the too new operating system on the Mac Pro as LR 3 hasn't been updated in years. You should probably think about upgrading it, which you should be able to do for a low price as you already own an older version and you can just buy the upgrade.

  • Moving Lightroom 4

I have lightroom 4 installed on one computer and want to install it on another one.  How do I do that?

You are allowed to have the software installed and activated on two machines.  The only restriction being that you do not use it on both machines at the same time.
If you do not have the disc(s), you can download the trial and activate it using your serial number from the original purchase.
