Moving Local Disk Drive from Host to VM/ Possible?

Hi haven't seen similar questions about this.
New to Hyper V!
Is it possible to Unmount one of the local drives (I have four) host is WS2012 and mount on my VM carrying across the content?
I have it shared through internal switch which is accessible through a share but this is not working for streaming content purposes through the subsonic app.
I need to move the local drive over to reflect in my VM.
Thanks
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
you can just use it as a so called passthrough disk as Shabarinath described it or if you need the content more mobile as a vhdx you can easy copy the content via hyper-v Manager or using some Tools like Disk2vhd.

  • Is it possible to install and use Firefox in a local disk drive D: ?

A desktop computer with Windows XP, Professional Version and Service Pack 3. The browser is Explorer 8 and the search engine is Google. There is very little free space left in local disk drive C: and the browser Google combination is painfully slow.
The computer also has a local disk drive D: which has only recently been formatted as NTFS with about 18 GB of free memory.
Can I use this drive D: to install and operate Firefox ? Drive C: is probably the default drive in the installation process and the question is can it be altered to drive D:, if so how is it done. How much memory does Firefox use after it is installed.
Any direction and advice would be appreciated to use as much of drive D: as possible with a Firefox Google combination.
Thank you for considering this post.

If you would install Firefox on the D:/ drive the vast majority of its files would end up in /Documents and Settings/ on the C:/ drive where the operating system resides.
Firefox Portable will keep all its files together, where you install it.

I cannot save anything else to my computer and I feel as if I barely have anything saved on here to begin with. My (C) drive is almost full and my local disk drive (D) has so much space on it, but I do not know how to make that my default drive. I've tried following people's suggestions online but nothing is helping. Can anyone help?

  • How to Access DATA, Physical Flash Drive from Host machine

    Hello Everyone,
First i am sorry for My English also if i post wrong place.
In HyperV, I created 3 VM machines, and i want each machines can access to Data or Flash Drive from Host machine.
    THanks you so much!
    Regards

    Hi,
    The Hyper-V forum is here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?forum=winserverhyperv
But, your question is relatively simple.  You will need to use standard Windows networking to access data from the host machine.  Depending on your version of Hyper-V, connecting to it via RDP from the host machine can use the RDP client's ability
to access the host drives also.

  • Accessing physical floppy disk drive from Windows 8.1 host machine to Windows XP SP3 hyper-v?

    Hi there!
Could someone help up me? I just wanted to ask if it's possible for a hyper-v to access a physical "floppy diskette" drive?
Here's my setup: I have a Windows 8.1 as my host and Windows XP SP3 as the virtual machine. I would need to access the contents of the physical floppy diskette drive from the Windows XP SP3 vm. This is needed, because, currently our customer is still using
floppy disk drives, to most of their in-house applications. I tried to open Drive A: inside Windows XP SP3 VM while the physical diskette from the Windows 8.1 is inserted. But then again, it cannot directly access the contents. Also, I tried to use "virtual
floppy drives" and copy the files from the diskette. But for some reason, their applications do not support it. I did check device manager in Windows XP SP3 vm, but i cannot see the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" option inside the VM.
    Please help!!! Thank you!
    All the best,
    MS CAMPer

HI Carey, thanks for this, But this is under System Center Virtual Machine Manager. I already saw this a while ago.
Anyway, is there a way for Windows XP VM to access a physical floppy diskette drives inserted to Windows 8.1 host machine? I dont intend to use Virtual floppy disks. Only Physical ones.
Please please. Need your help guys! :( Thank you!

  • Restrict Firefox Access to Local Disk Drives in Linux

I used to be able to modify the browser.js file and use regular expressions with onLocationChange to restrict access to about:, file:, and resource: I am unable to locate where to make the changes to have this same behavior in Firefox 4.
I need to configure the browser to deny access to local disks under Linux (e.g. file://usr/local/data) I also need to prevent my users from using about: and file: in order to meet corporate security requirements.
I have exploded the omni.jar file, and looked for some time. Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

    Hi
    +". . . my 3TB RAID 5 that they're using has become rather full at this point (down to 200MB). . ."+
I think the problem you're currently seeing starts (and probably ends) here. Regardless of what your data comprises of the general rule of thumb is to make sure you keep at least 10% of free disk space for any hard drive let alone a RAID. Most people would generally recommend 15% for a RAID 5. A rough calculation based on your 3TB RAID would mean you should keep at least 300GB free. You're well below that unless 200MB is a typo? I'm surprised the whole thing has not ground to a halt?
Video Capture, Editing and Playback in a network home environment is always going to place a considerable strain on any network unless you've prepared the ground first. For example 60 seconds of RAW Video is roughly 200MB in size. Multiply this for a classroom of 16 and that's a lot of data. Even if you're not using hi-def you're still talking a lot of data.
There are better ways of doing this.
    HTH?

  • Can a T60 (with completely zero-ed hard disk) install a hard disk drive from a CD? Or floppy only?

    Hi
Yikes - I am in deep trouble !
Following a virus attack, I have zero-ed my Thinkpad T60's hard disk (using KillDisk), but now when I try to install WindowsXP Pro from a CD, but although it can read the CD and does get so far... it says it cant read the hard disk !
I was hoping to install the correct driver (see below) but now I can't find my floppy disk drive for my T60.
Is it possible for DOS to read off a DVD or a CD?
I have tried to download a file which I am hoping is the correct driver
"Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit), Vista (32-bit) and XP (32-bit) - ThinkPad"
    6iim10ww.exe
    www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70477
But without a floppy drive I dont know how to get it into my T60!
Is it possible to put the data onto a CD or a DVD and read from there?
    Cheers
    Ship
    P.S. My machine is a Lenovo/IMB Thinkpad T60 "2007-F4G" with a 74GB hard disk.

  • Moving Time Machine Drive from Direct Connect to Network Share

I have a 1 TB external USB 2 drive I use for my Time Machine backup. I'd like to move that drive to a file server and continue backing up to it. The problem appears to be that when backing up to the drive as a network volume, Time Machine wants to create a new sparsebundle for the backup and not use the existing TM backup folder on the drive.
Is it possible to migrate a Time Machine drive from direct connect to network while preserving the backed up data? Thanks!

Depending on what "file server" you're using, that may or may not work reliably. Here's the criteria they must meet: Disks that can be used with Time Machine. And be careful here: just because some 3rd-party hardware claims to support Time Machine doesn't necessarily mean that Apple supports it, or that it will work in all circumstances.

    That's correct.

  • Moved TM backup drive from USB to Airdisk, now is not recognized

I have a USB external TM backup drive that I need to relocate. I have an Airport Extreme that I plugged the disk into and now TM does not recognize the disk as a backup of my computer. The disk is mounted and selected in TM but it wants to do a complete backup. Is there something special that needs to be done after moving the disk for TM to recognize it as a backup of this computer?
    Thanks.

I hate to have to tell you this, but backing-up that way is unreliable and not supported by Apple.   See:  Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk.
and now TM does not recognize the disk as a backup of my computer.
Because of the different way Time Machine stores it's backups when they're done over a network, you can't keep backing-up to the same set of backups. See the blue box in #E2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • What will happen if I delete the local disk's from my iPhone?

I want to free up storage space on my phone and a lot of the space is being taken up by 'Local Disk''s and I want to know what'll happen to my phone if I delete or remove them

Don't do that. Are you talking about the photo folders?

  • Lightroom 5 hangs on import.  New catalog, from local disk and from SD card.

    Lightroom 5.7.1
    Windows 7 64bit.
    SSD, i5 16gb RAM
jpg or dng from Pextax K3
When importing photos to my catalog the import process hangs and doesn't import anything.
    I have tried:
    Deleting preference file
Importing from Desktop, Folder on HD, SD Card
Folder without Anything but 1 photo
    Folder with Many photos
Created a new catalog and moved all photos across - the problem briefly went away and now is back.
7000 photos in this new temp catalog, but now the problem exists in my main (65k+) and temp (7k) catalogs.

    Things to try:
Detach all USB devices except mouse, keyboard, external hard drives (in other words, phones and tablets and anything else), try importing
Temporarily disconnect from internet, disable virus checker and firewall, try importing

  • Moving a hard drive from one Mac Mini to another to create a twin Mini Mac

I have been a PC user since before the stone age, or atleast since the comadore 64, Then I upgraded to a PC with an actual hard drive. It was huge, 12 MB!
along the road I had purchased 3 Mac laptops. All were new and I just never got used to either so I ended up selling both. About 6 years ago I got an iPhone. I have had ipods since they came out and I liked the data integration. Then an appleTV with a HD now 3 more apple TV 3s. Got an iPad 2 followed by an iPad 3 . Last fall my 2 year old 1500 dollar sony lap top with an i7 processor just would not power up at all, It was a nice PC but to be honest I used to be a Sony fan byt after losing 3 out of 4 laptops, and reading about Apples Intel processors, I thought I would try one more time. What a terriffic way to wean off of windows. I am running OSX Maverics with windows 8.1 on bootcamp. I still need windows for a few programs I am running.
One of my biggest thrills is the amount of inexpensive and even free software available on a Mac. And when a new OS comes out, I dont nmeed to fork up a minimum of 2 to 400 dolars to upgrade. Most microsoft software is very expensive.
Im saying all that to say this,
I want/need one more computer in my shop. Prior to my Mac purchase I had 2 PCs running with Windows 8-8.1 Lots o people bitched about the huge change from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 but personally I love it. Its actually more like a mac now than windows. With  running a SSD Windows 8.1 is very fast.
So when I got my Mac Mini with a 1TB hard drive, I took my 250 gb SSD out of my Sony and reformated it. Used Copy clone to clone the Mac OS to the SSD. Very fast and perfect copy. (since then I purchased Copy clone and every day at 11:30 PM CC copyies my SSD Mac Partition to the original HD.
I still havent completely figured how to do the same with my Boot Camp partition. but I purchased Win Clone. There is a fairly long process to seting up the samy system as I have for cloning my mac which is as easy as copying a folder.
    Sorry for rambeling
Here is my question. Now that I have a perfectyly cloned hard drive of the actujal hard drive I use inmy Mac Mini, I want to purchase another mac mini, 2012 same as mine. I have an i7 but to save a little I may go with an I5. Can I take that cloned hard drive and just plug it into my new Mac Mini and Viola I have two computers set up perfectly for me when it only took a few minutes. (if this is possible why would anyone ever buy a PC again. I realize a Mac Mini is not the most powerful computer out there, But as tech goes, Its about the most powerful Desk top I have ever owned. I have a secone 120GB SSD that I could then copy both OS systems to. I save all my data extrernally via USB 3 or Firewire 800 to a Promise DS 4600 with 2-3tb hard drives and room for 2 more. I mirrior these right now and have plenty of storage for me
I will use a 1 TB external drive for my shop mac,
Truthfullyu if this works, My mini macs can keep procreating other mini macs all the same configuration
Something I just never could conceve before with a PC. Each PC setup was its own Labor of love and hate. and as much backing up you do, forgfet it, Its still a major deal when one crashes! Hope I didnt run on too long
    Thanks

Can I take that cloned hard drive and just plug it into my new Mac Mini and Viola I have two computers set up perfectly
    Yes.

  • Can't see USB disk drive from my Windows PC on my Airport Extreme

How do I configure the windows setting on my Airport Extreme so my Windows users can access it?

By default, when you enable "File Sharing" in the AirPort Utility, your AirPort Extreme will share out an attached USB HDD with either Macs or PCs.
To access the shared HDD from a Windows 7 PC:
Start > Computer > Map network drive
Drive: <use default or select a drive letter>
Folder: \\<AirPort's Base Station Name or IP Address>\<HDD's Volume Name>
User name: <Enter Base Station Administrator name>
Password: <Enter Base Station Administrator password>

  • Problems moving ODBC RDB driver from 2.1.13 to 3.x

    Hello. I'm new.
I doubt that anyone can assist us in our situation, but I can't find any help anywhere else.
We've been using Forms (see info below, please) for years with ODBC for RDB driver version 2.10.13.00. We would like to move to ODBC for RDB driver version 3.x (3.2 is the latest, I believe) for several reasons.
However, when I run our application against a data source using the new driver, it crashes quite frequently when committing changes. I do not know why. I get a win32 exception dialog box, and nothing else (no forms dump file).
BUT when I turn on SQL Tracing, everything works just fine! When I turn on Driver Logging, it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, depending on which driver logging setting I use.
When it fails, the last line in the rdbodbc.log file is...
    .._uCnvBinaryToChar 0X00000000
    or...
    bccSQLExecuteLckd
    or...
    the dml statement
    .0X03A27DF8: INSERT INTO ORGANIZATION ( ORGANIZATION_ID,ORGANIZATION_NA
    .ME,ORGANIZATION_NAME_2,ADDRESS_1,ADDRESS_2,CITY,STATE,ZIP_1,ZIP_2,EMAI
    .L_ADDRESS,REMARK_1,REMARK_2 ) VALUES ( ?, ?,NVL( ?,' '),NVL( ?,' '),N
    .VL( ?,' '),NVL( ?,' '),NVL( ?,'XX'),NVL( ?,0),NVL( ?,0),NVL( ?,' '),NV
    .L( ?,' '),NVL( ?,' ') ) RETURNING DBKEY INTO ?
...depending on the driver logging setting.
One particular form always seems to crash on a simple insert statement within a block's On-Insert trigger. The block contains only items with a number or char data type. I have made a great many code variations and it doesn't make it work, but I can get it to work if I place an alert message right before the insert statement or a win_api_utility.sleep(...) statement. And as I mentioned before, it works fine if I turn on SQL Tracing.
So, I am not sure if there is some known issue with Forms and ODBC RDB driver 3.x that we can work around, or if Forms 6i just won't work with the newer driver. Our application contains hundreds of often complex forms, so any fix would have to be relatively simple to implement.
    Thanks very much.
    Forms 6i (6.0.8.13.0) - running client/server
    Oracle RDB database (7.1)
    Windows XP
    OCA 6.0.5.35.0

Follow-up for anyone interested since apparently no one else in the internet world has this problem. :)
When I activate OCA_DEBUG_ERROR (i.e., set registry OCA_DEBUG_ERROR = TRUE under \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE), everything works, but I do see this debug message: "OCA-30002 ubofgrd function not supported", which does not get logged when I use the older driver. So, again, if I slow things down enough, it works, but it won't work without logging/tracing turned on. An OCA bug, I suppose?
