Moving Logic 9.7.1 to Mountain lion

Hi,
I was just about to purchase a Mac Mini Server with Lion for running Logic projects, and then noticed over the last few days they have updraded to Mountain Lion.
I know that so far my Audio unit isn't tested (Inspire 1394), and I might have problems with some other plug-ins.  But the thing that concerns me most is that I have read reports that people are having problems loading Logic 9.7.1 (which I am currently running on Snow Leopard),  into Mountain Lion. Apparently you are asked for the original key which I don't have. I do have the upgrade to Logis Studio disks.
I'm a litlle confused: Anyone have problems moving their Logic 9.7.1 to Mountain Lion on a new machine?
**I did ask a similar question a while ago regarding moving to Lion, but this time I have no choice but to upgrade now as my current system is really creaking, and I think the Mac mini server is perfect for my needs.

I'm between projects so I went ahead and purchased the Mac Mini Server. It actually came (within two days) loaded with Lion not Mountain Lion.
I'm keeping my Macbook Pro around for a while just in case.
Set it up with monitor OK. The wireless keyboard and my mouse were picked up pretty quickly.
Loaded in my Logic Studio upgrade disk, and right away it asked for my serial number. I typed this in and then it asked for my old serial number or key, which I don't have. I called Apple and they asked for proof of purchase from the old version. I explained that this was from many years ago (2005) and I didn't have any records. Apple settled for proof of purchase from the upgrade. Luckily I'd saved these details online. Apple then gave me a new serial number and I was in. At first the disk was rejected for some reason, but another try and it worked all loaded. The demo song wouldn't play at first, but worked after a software update.
So far everything works. The only problem is that I can't locate some third party loops from in my Macbook Pro I have purchased, and Logic has crashed while going through some of the samples I've copied over.
I'm doing a proper test run today, so will report back with any problems.
Thanks.

I had Logic Express and bought the Logic Studio Box (DVD) to upgrade the software. After I installed it, I keep getting a message that I can't use this version of Logic Pro (9.0) with Mountain Lion. And I can't look for updates, since the software doesn't open. Does anyone know how to fix this?Thank you!

...or you can simply run Software Updates to update Logic to the latest version...
(You don't need to run Logic to update it..)

    HI. ...
Anyone know of any issues with using Logic Pro music software with Mountain lion OS..
I have heard rumours in the past is that all sorted now?

At least Logic Pro 9 and Logic Pro X work correctly in Mountain Lion. Furthermore, Logic Pro X requires the latest OS X Mountain Lion version

  • Does Logic Pro 9 work with Mountain Lion?

    Hey!
    I was wondering...
My computer has Snow Leopard installed and i would really like to get Mountain Lion. BUT there is a problem... I don't know if Logic Pro 9 will with Mountain Lion. Can anybody help me with it? And also does Logic Pro 8 and the microsoft pack (word, powerpoint, excel etc. 2011) work too? Please help me if you know it
    THANK YOU
    Cheers

Since I'm not in the middle of anything critical and have multiple backups, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade. I've only been running for an hour or so, but here's where I am:
2008 MacPro, 8x2.8Ghz, 16Gb RAM. SSL MADI PCIe card for I/O. Logic 9.1.7
Tested with a couple of recent, decent size projects (40+ tracks, VIs and plugins). Not seeing any perormance differences.
    Working:
    - Euphonix MC Mix
    - UAD2 Duo
    - Spectrasonics Omnisphere
    - NI Komplete 8
    - Waves 9
    - Soundtoys 4
    - Wallander Instruments
    - EW Play
    - Melodyne
    NOT Working:
    - Access Virus TI. Plugin opens but cannot connect to Virus. I am running the latest stable v4 release - I will try installing the v5 public Beta and report back. This is a deal breaker so if I cannot get it working I will roll back to Lion
    - SSL Duende Native. Authorization is failing. Possibly a CodeMeter issue or just authorizations lost during upgrade - will look at this next.
Make sure you are running the latest iLok driver - there was one released a few days ago.
    More as it develops.

  • I'm struggling to install Logic Pro 9 upgrade on Mountain Lion

Way back we bought one of the last pre-Intel G5 in order to do music processing. We also bought Logic Studio v6 or 7. Then we upgraded to Logic Studio 8 and later decided to use a macbook pro instead of the G5. So far so good. We then upgraded to Logic Pro 9 and can run this on Lion on the Macbook Pro.
My partner is now working away and takes his Macbook with him, so we want to set-up Logic 9 on my macbook pro which is running Mountain Lion 10.8.4. Once this is done we will take it off his machine, so not pirating in any way.
I have managed (at great length) to install Logic Studio 8 on my machine using Pacifist, and I can open it and create projects etc... I now want to install Logic Pro 9 on this machine but I get a message saying that a qualifying copy of Logic or MainStage was not found on the disk. To complicate matters, we can't find either the logic pro 9 disk or an image copy, so I downloaded from the following link:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2972851/logic-downloads-fixed.html
which I found in this thread:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4948612
I have already spent many many hours fiddling with this, does anyone know how I can get around this problem?

Im using LPX and have found it to work well.... and no less stable than LP9 in terms of general stability. There are some bugs but given we are still in the early stages of development, that is not surprising and is no different to how it was with LP8 and 9 in their early days. I should add I haven't come across any "showstopper" bugs that affect my own personalo workflow and method of using Logic... just a few niggles and minor annoyances... that for the most part can be worked around if they haven't already been fixed in the 3 updates that have come out since initial release.
I have had no real issues with importing LP9 projects into LPX other than of course, the lack of 32bit Plugin support in LPX which means LP9 projects that contain 32bit plugins.. will not fully import into LPX. The midi/audio data imports ok.. the 32bit plugins will be missing however... if you don't have equivilant 64bit versions installed. For me, this issue has been very minimal simply because almsot all the plugins i use, have already been updated to 64bit versions over the last few years.
There has also been an issue with certain parameters in the track/region Inspector after import into LPX, containing weird values.. I have only had this issue once out of maybe 40+ LP9 Projects and in this one case i simply reset the values and all was well. Other users have reported different levels of how often this occurs.
Note: Once a project has been opened and then resaved in LPX the LPX version cannot be opened in LP9 as project compatibility is only backwards and not forwards.
If you cannot find your disk and serial..(which you will also need)  Contact Apple as they may be able to provide you with replacements disks if they have any left. Bear in mind if, as it appears, your LP9 is an upgrade from LP8 you will also need your previous LP8 serial as well as your upgrade LP9 serial to properly install Logic on a new Mac. Once installed you can and in fact must... then update LP9 to 9.1.8 via software updates in LIon or Mountain LIon... for Logic to under those OS versions.

  • Logic Pro 9.1.8 + Mountain Lion 10.8.2 - Frequently crashes when using plug-ins

I'm really hoping someone can help. I suspect this problem is new since I can't find a definitive answer.
When using the third party plug-in Superior Drummer 2, Logic Pro 9.1.8 frequently crashes giving problem report 'Logic Pro quit unexpectedly while using the Superior Drummer plug-in' followed by details.
This also happens when using Arturia Analog Laboratory. Similar problems have been reported by others using third party plug-ins.
Some have suggested removing the folder /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework and then installing ProKit Update 7. I've tried this without success. Once removed, attempting to install it only launches the alert 'a newer version of this software is already installed', which it patently isn't. Removing it also prevents Logic Pro from launching and requires the reinstallation of Mountain Lion.
Others say it's a problem with Mountain Lion and even Lion. Apparently, the above fix works with Snow Leopard but unfortunately, since I downloaded Snow Leopard from the app store, I can't revert back because it's no longer available.
I don't know whether the problem is with the plug-ins, Logic Pro, or the operating system but I do know that this is not uncommon. I haven't yet found anything to implicate the plug-ins. All have been updated to their latest versions. I can not verify whether the plug-ins worked in previous incarnations, with a previous operating system or Logic Pro since I've only ever used them with Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro Retina 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
The current cacophony of forum discussion is roughly sounding out Mountain Lion as being the issue.
I'm in the dark here! HELP!!!

The issue, according to other AAL users, is Arturia's drivers I am afraid to say.. The v1.5.2 ones work for some people but not others and they are waiting on a further update from Arturia to fix the issue. It isn't something that reinstalling ML or the Prokit for that matter..  fixes... unless you have some other issue with other plugins and software?

    please help!!

    Hi
First, you are going to need v9.1.7 or later with Mountain Lion (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5421)
    Second
To get the updaters to work several things MUST be correct:
The Logic Application must be named "Logic Pro" or "Logic Express" (depending on which type you are working with) with NO Additional spaces or numbers in the name.
The application must be at the root level of the Applications folder (and NOT anywhere else).

  • Logic Express 8 glitches with Mountain Lion - will I lose stuff if I re-install?

I use Logic Express 8, but it has been acting up since I upgraded my iMac from Leopard through Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. The sliders for navigating around my song projects are not working properly, which makes it difficult to zoom in on details. The program also crashes every time I use Flex-Time. Anyone know why this is and what I should do? I have a large amount of stored music projects on my Mac and, although they're backed up on Time Machine, I'm afraid that if I re-installed Logic Express 8 I might lose all this material and have nightmares getting it back.

  • Can't open Logic Pro after having installed Mountain Lion

After having installed Mountain Lion I can't find Logic Pro (the latest version) back in my programs. I do still find all of my sessions. Trying to open a session a "Basic Content Download" starts. Just before the end of the download the computer asks for my password. After I've typed it and pressed enter the download stops.
This means I can't open any of my sessions.
    What should I do?
    Thanks for any advice.

If you used the Mountain Lion installer it will have "migrated" your iWork software to the new system.
Unfortunately that doesn't always work properly. I had to reinstall mine from the original DVD.
If you can't find your DVD then you will have to purchase the iWork software individually from the Mac Store.
Just make sure to completely uninstall your existing iWork from your System first:

  • HT1338 Im thinking of getting Logic Pro X but will Mountain Lion work ?

    Hi There,
    How's it going?
Will Mountain Lion Work on my MacBookPro 15"  Nov. 2006 ya 7 years old now. works great but lacking the power of a new Mac.
    Im running 10.7.5 now Lion
The Processor is a 2.33 GHZ
and I have 2 GB of Memory
    750 GB WD Hard Drive
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    so thats 64 bit ...right?
    Thanks Apple fans.
    Bryski

Your MacBook is 64-bit, but it's not compatible with OS X Mountain Lion which requires a Mid/Late 2007 or newer MacBook Pro. See > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
Logic Pro X needs OS X 10.8.4 or newer, so you can't install Logic Pro X in your MacBook. You can find all the requirements for Logic Pro in this website > https://www.apple.com/logic-pro/specs/

  • Logic Pro and Upgrade to Mountain Lion/New MacBook Pro

At some point in the near future, I plan on buying one of the new MacBook Pros (non-retina display).  I currently have the mid-2009 model, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 15-inch, 4 GB of RAM.  Not this is terrible, but I would like to take advantage of the increased processing power with newer MacBook Pros because I constantly use Logic Pro for many different projects.
My question is, how do I make a smooth transition from one piece of hardware to the next?  For many of the audio files and such that make up all of the different instruments in Logic Pro, I'm not even completely sure where they are all installed.  Some files are in one directory, some are in others.  Not to mention plug-ins and things of that nature.  Any advice?

  • Logic Pro 9 will not start in Mountain Lion

I have gotten so much great info here, that I thought this would be the best place to ask my question. I am using a Mac Pro 3, 1 (early 2008). I bought the machine running Leopard, upgraded to Snow Leopard, lion, and Mountain lion with no problems. I have a valid license for logic studio eight and nine. Logic ran without problems… Until I upgraded to Mavericks. After upgrading, my computer started acting terribly. It was much slower, and I would get these terrible freezes where the screen would go kind of crazy flashing colors and stop working completely.
After thinking it was my graphics card, and not wanting to spend $1 million on a new video card, I decided to try downgrading back to Mountain lion.
First, I cleaned off the system drive, and installed mountain lion fresh from a USB drive. The crashing went away and the computer ran much faster and smoother.
However, after reinstalling logic, I am no longer able to start it. As soon as I click on the icon either through Finder or a dock menu, it crashes almost immediately. It has never gotten to or through the part where it scans the plug-ins or anything. I tried to understand the report it generates, and understand the things that it is trying to tell me, but cannot make any sense out of what it is actually saying happened. I have updated the app as well. I am currently at 9.1.8.
I don't know why this is happening, and don't know what the best next step should be. I already have everything moved out of the way if I need to do another fresh install. I was thinking to try a fresh install on a clean drive of Mavericks, and see if anything changes. Also, when I would try to change logic to start in 64-bit mode, there would be no option in the "get info" window to select or deselect 32-bit mode. It simply wasn't there.
I can post specs/logs/error reports of course, but don't even know where to start. Does anybody have any experience with this? Does anybody have a suggestion for where to start? Do I need to get Logic X? (Logic was running fine in Mountain Lion before) I have scoured the Internet trying to find someone with similar issues, but haven't found anything that works. All I have really tried is reinstalling both the OS and the app. Everything else works great in Mountain lion. I still have my Snow Leopard disks if you think going all the way back there would be the best option. My OS is running in 64-bit mode, but when logic does try to start, it says 32-bit mode in the little start up window.
I'm totally comfortable with Terminal, Console, etc, so can provide any info if anybody thinks they may be able to direct me towards a solution.
Thanks for reading and thanks for any help or advice.

    kcstudio
Must be my chipset then, although another Mainstage board told me otherwise. (that it was the OS)
When I upgraded my Duo2Core MBPro to Mavericks, I too lost Logic 9.
I'm pretty much done with Logic 9, and pretty happy about the new Logic X, and happy that it works on ALL of my machines.

I'm experiencing exactly the same issue... fresh install of Logic Pro, fresh update of Mountain Lion, everything up-to-date. Logic Pro crashes on start every time. I've trolled a number of forums and seen lots of references to ProKit.framework being the culprit. Some recommend downgrading this, but then there could be trouble with iPhoto and other apps. Some recommend waiting for the next OS update. I can't find a conclusive solution.

  • Does logic pro 8 work mountain lion?

I've updated my Mac Xeon with Mountain Lion and now my Logic Pro 8 is giving me a midi conflict error. How can I fix this or does Logic Pro 8 even work Mountain LIon? Can anyone help me?

I know.. I have both read and taken part in that thread but again....
The majority of peopole who run Logic 9.1.8 and Lion or now Mountain Lion do not have those issues... and because they do not, they don't post in such threads.. so you get a distorted view of the true numbers of people with problems.
Those that do have issues, will naturally post up in such threads... but that doesn't mean they are the majority of users... They are just the 'loudest' and quite rightly so.
I will also say that for me personally, 10.6.8 and Logic 9.1.5/9.1.6 was and still is the most stable platform for Logic of all of the various combinations available... but apart from an annoying issue with the "airplay' dialog box that keeps popping up in 9.1.8 with ML... and the GUI lag affecting a few plugins.. I don't have any major issues with Logic and ML... so I can happily live and work with that setup...
Finally, it's also worth noting that with my own client base.. initially with Lion and then Mountain Lion the number of clients who had problems was much higher.. Probably closer to 20-25% had issues..  but most of those issues were resolved by updates to incompatible drivers/3rd party plugins and so on...
Once those kind of issues were resolved... as I said earlier, the number of my clients who still have major issues running uner Lion or ML with Logic Pro 9 has dropped to less than 5%... and to me, that respresents a minority of all users... like it or not.
