Moving MacWrite from old Powerbook to new iBook

I just had a new hard drive installed on my iBook G4, running OS X 10.4.11. I backed up my personal data, but figured I'd be able to reinstall all my applications since I had original software.
However, I was unable to reinstall MacWrite II for OS 9. I only have a 3-1/4 inch disk with the program, and the disk drive won't work in OS X.
I tried to network the iBook with my old Powerbook G3 running OS 9.2 but they wouldn't connect. I copied the MacWrite files onto my flash drive, and even though they looked perfectly fine when the drive was hooked up to the Powerbook, they didn't on the iBook.
The iBook's OS 9 doesn't seem to be recognizing MacWrite as an OS 9 program.
I can't figure out how I made this work when I originally bought the iBook two years ago. I really need MacWrite so I can get access to old text files. Microsoft Word doesn't have an appropriate translator.
Help?!?

I copied the MacWrite files onto my flash drive, and even though they looked perfectly fine when the drive was hooked up to the Powerbook, they didn't on the iBook.
Could the Flash Drive still be in MS/Dos format? That'll lose half of most files. If so, just format it MacOS/HFS+.
A few other APPs had MacWrite import capabilities...
Adobe PageMaker 6.5 here.
Word Perfect 3
Mac Publisher
Quark 4
Claris/Dataviz document converter.
Likely many more too.
The iBook's OS 9 doesn't seem to be recognizing MacWrite as an OS 9 program.
Was this perchance copied over on that Flash Drive?

  • Moving apps from old citrus to new Phone

I am upgrading from a Motorola Citrus to a Samsung Stratosphere, which is supposed to arrive tomorrow,
I already use BackupAssistant to back up contacts, but what about my apps? I have many.
How do I get then from old phone to new?

Your apps are all connected to your Gmail account.  Once you sign in they are supposed to re-install automatically on the new phone (though that doesn't always happen).  If it doesn't happen, you have two options, you can either access the Play Store on your computer here: https://play.google.com/store and click on My Android Apps (top right), then go through them and click install on each one (make sure your new phone is signed into your Gmail account, and open the Play Store on your phone at least once) and they will be pushed to your phone.  Or, you can open the Play Store, then press menu>my apps, then swipe to the right.  This will give you a list of every app you have ever installed, and you can pick which ones to re-install.  I find the computer method to be easier, but hopefully they get pushed to your phone automagically.

  • Migration from old Powerbook to new iMac

I have just bought a new Intel 20" iMac. I have moved Documents, Applications and Music from an old G4 Aluminium Powerbook (running Leopard) to the iMac but which ever way I do it, be it via Migration Assistant, Wireless or via Ethernet cable, the size of the Hard Disk on the iMac increases by double. I also now have the following very annoying things happening, such as tons of Alias' on my Hard drive, .DS_Store files absolutely everywhere and a Microsoft AU Deamon appearing everytime I restart the iMac.
Can anyone advice me on how to identify the space consuming files, how to get rid of them and how best to get my files, music, photos etc from the old Powerbook onto this iMac.
    Kev Bate

    Brody,
Thank you. You have saved me from going crazy as everyone (including the Techies at the Mac shop where I bought the iMac) were adamant how easy it was to migrate using Migration Assistant. So I was getting a complex that whenever I brought something across from the Powerbook that the hard drive on my iMac was doubling in size.
I took the iMac back to the Apple shop and they restored the disk back to the original settings. I am now transferring files using traditional & physical means such as external hard drives.

  • Transferring from old PowerBook to new MacBook Pro

I have ordered a new Macbook Pro and was looking for guidance on bringing it up to date with my old PowerBook with Tiger as easy as possible.
I was wondering if I could just move my total Users Folder from the PB to the new computer?
Are there items in this Tiger Users folder that would not work in the new Leopard Intel computer and should not be moved?

  • Moving files from old computer to new

I have purchased my daughter a Powerbook 1.3 Ghz and need to move her files, applications, etc., from her old Powerbook 400 mhz to the new one. I have an external firewire drive that will make this easy, I think, but I am concerned about what exactly to move so that her safari bookmarks and her iTunes playlists, preferences, etc., all make the jump.
I'm sure there is a trick to doing this. I just don't know what it is.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Moving contents from old iPod to new iPod

I would like to shift all the contents on my old 30g iPod over to the new 160g I just bought. I haven't kept everything on my iTunes library, so is there a really simple way to do this without losing things? Any help would be appreciated.

The songs from the old iPod will have to be moved to iTunes, then transferred from there to the new iPod.
    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

  • I followed the instructions to copy and paste ALL profile files from old PowerBook to new MacBook Pro, so why are no bookmarks now shown in Firefox?

    From the page
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile#w_copying-files-between-profile-folders
After dragging and dropping the profile folder from the old PowerBook to the new MacBook Pro, I followed the copy/paste instructions, apparently successfully, to replace all the files in the latter with all the files in the former -- essentially to transfer my Firefox browser functionality from the old computer to the new. However, on starting Firefox, I have ZERO bookmarks (in other words, Firefox looks like it did when I downloaded and installed it a couple days ago). One note: When I performed the operation, I had used the new version of Firefox almost not at all, yet in the course of copying and pasting I had to permit replacement of HUNDREDS of bookmark files with identical names. How could THIS be?!?

It is normally best to only restore personal data that you really need (bookmarks, passwords, etc.) and not a full profile folder.
The xxxx in the name of the JSON backup (bookmarks-####-##-##_xxxx_$$$$.jsonlz4) denotes the number of bookmarks in the file and a file hash ($$$$) is appended to check if it is necessary to save a new backup, so only if there is a different hash because bookmarks were modified then a new backup is created.
If you remove the newer backups that were created before you restored the backup and only leave the bookmark backups from the saved profile then Firefox should rebuild the bookmarks when you remove all the places files.

  • Moving iPhoto from old Mac to new Mac

I got a new iMac and have been trying to move my iPhoto library from my old one to the new one. I followed instructions I found here in these discussions, but I'm still having trouble. Here's what I've done:
I copied the library from my old computer (from the Pictures folder) to a flash drive.
Then I moved it from the flash drive to the Pictures folder on the new Mac.
    Then I opened iPhoto.
Nothing happened, except a yellow sticky-note looking thing is there that says "To get started, do any of the following..."
I had read something else here about going to File and selecting Switch Library, so I did that and still nothing happened.
I even tried downloading the iPhoto Library Updater (something else I read about here), but it said it didn't need to be uploaded.
    Any ideas?

I tried hooking the computers together when I first got the new one last month, but it must have been too confusing for me (can't really remember why it didn't work) because I decided to just do it with a flash drive instead. Do I need to trash the iPhoto library that's on the flash drive before I format it, or will formatting delete it anyway? I thought I read that this flash drive was already formatted for Mac OS before I bought it, but maybe not. And if you have any instructions for me as to how to format it, I would greatly appreciate it. You've probably guessed I don't know much about all this.
    Thanks for your response

  • Having trouble transferring music from old PowerBook to new iMac

I'm having trouble transferring my iTunes music from my old PowerBook to my new iMac.  Trying to follow the online instructions by using an external hard drive to transfer from one to another.

    Hi Skingz,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Is the external hard drive that you are working with formatted for Mac OS Extended Journaled?   Is there enough space on it?
The process is the same regardless of the operating system you are using:
OS X Mountain Lion: View information about your disk
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11086
Formatting erases the contents of the external drive so be cautious.  Also this process is for any application, not just Aperture:
Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3509
Try the steps in the article again.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
If you are still not able to copy the library to your new computer this way, then the alternative approach would be to copy the music folder from your old computer to the external drive, and then add the music folder to your new, empty iTunes library on the iMac.   You'll have to recreate your playlists, etc, but at least you will have the music.

I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • Moving iWeb from old computer to new

I just bought a new computer with iLife 08, the old computer has iLife 06. How do I move my website from iWeb to the new computer? I saw one internet suggestion that I look for a file in users/myname/library/application support/iweb. This folder does not exist on my old computer. Thanks for any help.

On the old computer the domain file for iweb is only in the library folder under the main HD and not in the user library. I copied this Domain, and on the new computer the only iweb folder was in the user library (which there is only one user) so I pasted the domain file there. This did not work, when I open iweb I still get he start up for new user screen.

  • Importing iTunes library from old powerbook to new macbook pro

What is the best way to import my old itunes library (from my 10.4.7 powerbook) to my new macbook pro?
    Thanks!

I'm still having some trouble, can someone give me guidance? Here is what I did:
    1. Connected old mac (PowerBook G4) to new mac (MacBook Pro) via firewire 800 and target mode.
    2. Located "iTunes Music" folder on old Mac and pulled the entire folder into "iTunes Music" on the new Mac.
    3. I restarted.
    4. iTunes didn't find the new music, it does find the one song I've purchased using the new Mac. I think this makes sense, because now the folder structure has an embedded "iTunes Music" folder (from the old Mac) in my new mac's "iTunes Music" folder. The structure looks like:
    -iTunes Music
----[folder for the one song I've purchased on the new mac]
----iTunes Music (this is the folder from the old mac)
---------[folders of music from the old mac]
    5. So I went into the iTunes Music folder I just imported, selected all the music, and copied it one level up.
    6. The result is on my new mac, my "iTunes Music" folder now contains all the music from the old mac, plus the one song I've puchased using the new mac.
    7. I restarted my new mac. Restarted iTunes, but still the only song that's recognized is the one I've already purchased. The others aren't showing.
    8. I've gone into preferences/advanced and confirmed I'm pointing at the right target folder.
Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong here?

  • Import photos from old powerbook to new macbook pro with time machine

Today I received a new macbook pro from Apple because my powerbook g4 was beyond repair. I would like to import my iPhoto library from my time machine backup to the new computer. I have opened up iPhoto and then time machine but it is only showing me today, not what's been backed up on the harddrive. Can anyone tell me what to do to focus it to what was backed up, not just today?
Thank you so much for your help.

In System Preferences, Sharing, is the Computer Name of the new MacBook the same as the old PB? If not, right-click the Time Machine icon in the dock and choose +Browse Other Time Machine disks+. It should be obvious where to go from there.

  • Moving iTunes from Old Computer to New Computer

I want to move my iTunes music files and playlists from my "old" mac to a "new" mac. All music on "old" mac was loaded from CDs; there are no iTunes Store downloads in my iTunes Music Folder. In addition to the music files, I also want to move the playlists.
