Moving mail box

I would like to move a mailbox and it's messages (about 300 of them) into an extrenal drive. So that the mailbox and the messages will live on the external drive, and not on my computer. I find no way to do that. I would like to add or delete messages in that mailbox, while it is on the extrenal drive. (If I can move to external drive in the first place). Can anybody help please? Thanks.

Of course you can’t open the archive. Its name will be mailboxname.mbox. To read the mail messages again, you need to import this mailbox back into Apple Mail. That’s why I told you that it’s impossible to move the mailbox to another drive *while retaining* it in Mail. Go ahead and try this, then I’m sure you’ll understand:
• Export one of your mailboxes to the Destktop
• In Apple Mail’s menu bar go to File/Import mailboxes and select the Desktop
• You will see a new mailbox named Imported
So to sum it up: Archiving is used to archive a complete mailbox and store it wherever you want. But to read its content you need to import it into Mail.

  • Mail messages are marked "junk" in the outgoing mail box

For some time all my outgoing email messages have been marked as "junk" in the sent mail box. Today found that if I do not mark my personal information in my address book as "Me" my sent messages are no longer marked "junk". Does anyone know how I can fix the problem so my personal information can be marked "Me"?

iMac intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The following procedure thoroughly gets rid of all the files used by the junk filter, so that Mail creates them anew, and should fix the problem in the cases where the simple procedure provided in my first post doesn’t:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    3. Locate LSMMap2 and move it to the Trash. This file stores information about what does and doesn’t constitute junk, and allows the junk filter to learn. Deleting this file is what Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset does. The file was called LSMMap in early versions of Mail; delete that as well if you see it.
    4. Locate any MessageRules.plist (Mail 2.x) and/or MessageSorting.plist (Mail 1.x) files and move them to the Desktop. This is where Mail stores all the rules, including the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    5. Locate DefaultCounts and move it to the Trash. This file keeps statistics about the number of messages that have been marked as junk, either automatically by the junk filter or manually by the user.
    6. Look for the account folders. The name of each account folder starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Open each of the account folders, locate the Junk.mbox or Junk.imapmbox folder within it, and move it to the Trash if present.
    7. Go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. Locate any Junk.mbox mailboxes there (their name may include the account name in parenthesis), and move them to the Trash.
Note: Steps 5, 6 and 7 may be unnecessary. Also, messages in Junk mailboxes with an .mbox suffix are stored locally and will be lost forever as a result of doing steps 6 and 7. If there is a chance that you have legit messages there that you want to preserve, either try skipping those steps, or move the messages to another mailbox in Mail first, or move Junk.mbox to the Desktop (to be imported back later) instead of to the Trash. Junk mailboxes with an .imapmbox suffix aren’t a concern because they are stored on the server and Mail would rebuild them automatically.
    8. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
    9. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
    10. Go online again if you went offline in step 8.
If the above solves the problem and you don’t have any rules you’d like to preserve or recreating them is not a daunting task, just trash the rules files that were moved to the Desktop and be done with it.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • How could I re-open my mail box with error message :The last time you opened Mail, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?

How could I re-open my mail box, as an error message blocked "The last time you opened Mail, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?" Even I entered re-open, the airbook does not response but prompt the same error message again.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

HI. I had the same problem while trying to migrate a user from Exchange 2003 to 2010. And the same error as you have appeared. I tried to skip more e-mails in case some fails but couldn't get successful.
Check if the user have accessed the mail at all on Exchange 2003 because if the user didn't accessed it it may contain many mails and when we try to migrate the mailbox, the mailbox size on Exchange 2003 may be grater than on the 2010.
On my case after many reading we just see that the user didn't access the mail at all on our Exchange 2003. (Let me know if you need to know how you can check if the user accessed the mail or not or you can just google it). So what we have done is we just
reset the user password on Active Directory. Because as you can see the error is related with Logon Failure.
This solved the issue for me. Can you check this way
    Thanks

  • Import mail boxes from Thunderbird crashes mail!

Has anyone any idea what I can do to ensure Mail does not crash when I import mail boxes from Thunderbird?
I would love to us Mail but unless I can bring my mailboxes it isn't happening.
Is there a file size limit or is Mail for Mac just flakey?

Could you please explain the whole process of exporting mail from Snow to Lion. I have been trying for weeks on two diffrent computers and I can not get it to work.
I have moved the library, not sure to delete the envelopes. How do you export the  mbox-files ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Moving Mail Between Web Hosting Companies

    Hi Gang-
I recently moved my primary website from one host to another. I diligently moved all my IMAP email boxes to the "On My Mac" section in Apple Mail before changing my nameservers. After the nameserver change I moved the mail boxes back to the IMAP of the new host within Apple Mail. All was good in the world until I realized I failed to move the "Sent" folder so I left behind about 1000 outgoing sent emails. I would love to have those emails back in Apple Mail so they can be searchable.
Since the namservers have been changed, I can no longer check email in the old way and move the email to my Mac. I can however still use the IP address to FTP in to the email folder and manually download the files. I have successfully downloaded the Sent mailbox to my Mac desktop.
Now the problem. How do I get these files I downloaded into Apple Mail so I can get them to the new hosting plan IMAP? The Apple Mail import function does not seem to recognize the email files or the folder the email files are in.
Thanks in advance for any help!

    ber-
Looks like some nifty tools on that site but it might be a bit over my head. I more of a drag and drop / click the mouse kind of Mac user. Some of those look like they might do the trick but implementing them is a tad much for me.
Thanks for jumping in ber. Much appreciated.
    Any simpler options out there?

How can I *easily* delete both messages -- or -- how can I *easily* delete the duplilcate and retain one?
I've searched everywhere for an answer and while many people report problems with 'errornous duplicate' messages - the ones I have are actual legitimate dups - I just want to easily manage them. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Mail Box open in Other computer\account

    hi
Is there any way to know if my mail box is open in other computer\account ?
for Example Goole . Last Account Activity
    Thank you
    Dano

    Hi,
In Exchange 2013, we can use
Get-MailboxStatistics cmdlet to find Last Logon Time for a user with Exchange mailbox by the following command:
    Get-MailboxStatistics –Identity “user”
Otherwise, please refer to the following link to get recent activity. The “Recent activity” page shows info about the activity in your Microsoft account, within the last 30 days. This includes any time that you signed in to your account, whether you used
a web browser, your phone, an email app, a third-party app, or another method.

  • Is there a limit to the number of mail boxes in mail?

I cannot set up a new mailbox under the mail box menu within Mail. All I get is a "boing.

Mail is set to check every 5 minutes.
The error it reports is "Could not connect to the IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, uncheck the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Avanced tab of Account preferences"
However, I'm sure it's not a problem with the settings because 1) these settings have been fine for weeks, and 2) if i inactivate any of the accounts the others (that are showing errors) no longer show errors).
If I have fewer accounts connecting, or if I switch of SSL, then the errors go away.
I would prefer to connect using SSL, which is why I'm not simply switching off SSL and forgetting about it.

  • Lost Mail Boxes and Smart Boxes

Hi can anyone give me some advice please as I have had to reinstall and have lost all of my smart boxes and some mail boxes which had valuable information.
Thank you in advance for any advice you can give.
    Janey

No, you are not doing anything wrong. The original e-mail stays in your inbox until deleted, which will also delete it from the Smart Folder. The Smart Mailbox is a 'sorting' tool, but it doesn't actual contain the e-mails.

  • How do I get rid of duplicate "in" and "sent" mail boxes?

I have installed a new version of Thunderbird on a new machine and used Easy Transfer to move my mail boxes etc from my old machine. The problem is that I now have duplicate "in" and "sent" mail boxes. New in and sent mail only appears in one of them but I can't delete the other. I have deleted all messages in the extra "in" box (they were all duplicates) but have not been able to do the same with the messages in the duplicate "sent" box because the "deleted" folder where they would go is not big enough to take the 16000 messages in there (when I "select all" and "delete" it just says "deleted folder is full" when in fact there's nothing in it; I am assuming this just means it would not take all the messages to be deleted). Help please!

    Hi,
According to your descriptioin, I don't think this is system problem, it should be Intel driver problem. It would be contact Intel to confirm this issue whether this is their driver problem.

  • Mail.app is COPYING instead of MOVING mail to folders (using IMAP)

    Hi there,
I hope I can keep this simple, I'll go by the steps leading to my propblem:
    1.
I've been using POP3 mail for a long time, mainly with Outlook on PC's and now that I have made the godly switch to Apple I've been using Mail.app for a couple months. I host my domains at GoDaddy.com and they offer decent mail servers including webmail, etc. Since I'm checking mail on multiple platforms (iPhone, iPad, MacBook and webmail) I decided to start using IMAP instead of POP3. GoDaddy set that up form me in seconds and I got IMAP working on Mail.app in no time (yes, I deleted the old POP accounts and started from zero creating new IMAP accounts).
    2.
I've learned to keep mail filing easy so I have just two folders: "Inbox" and "archive". My inbox is... well... my inbox. If a mail is in my inbox it's because it's either a brand new unread mail or it is read and I'm keeping it there because action needs to be take upon it. Once action has been taken and I want to save the mail for future reference I just archive it.  If I want to retreive mail I just make a search across all folders. Of course I also have the trash folder, sent items, junk, etc.
    3. THE PROBLEM
As seen on the subject line, Mail.app is COPYING instead of MOVING mail to the IMAP server based folders. So when I click on archive, or manualy drag a mail to the "archive" folder it places a copy there but the email is still visible in the inbox on all my devices. I have tried creating other IMAP folders and giving them different names such as "saved mail" or "old mail" and still I get the same problem. To prove the problem is on the Mail.app side I loged into my webmail and moved messages to the "archive" folder from there, and guess what... it worked. The messages did not show up in the inbox of any of my devices any more.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP.... I'm talking about three email addresses which receive tons of business related mail every day... I'm flooded in mail.
THANKS in advance for your help!
    Kinds regards,
    Willem

    Thanks wjosten,
I had already tried that. I even created a keyboard shortcut to do so. It doesn't work! As soon as I close down Mail.app and start it up again, the messages are back in the inbox.
