Moving Markers from Project to Clips in Event

I have a student who put 100+ markers on a clip in a Project/Timeline.
Is there a way to link up or move the clip (with the markers) back into the event so the markers appear?

Can you explain this better......
"Select and copy the clip in the Project."
Done.
"Right-click in the browser and choose New Compound Clip."
Browser?    Do you mean Project or Event Library? (I assume Library if you used 7).
If I have an event selected & go make new compound clip it puts it in the event.
If I have the project selected, it changes the original clip into a compound clip.
"Paste the Project clip into the Compound."
Huh?  See above.

  • Moving buttons from project to project

I have a button where the selected state and highlighted states took me a long time to create a long time ago.
I copy to the clipboard the button, paste into a new project and none of the attibutes, selected state or highlighted states work. whats more, the "selected Shape' shows "not set'
How do you correctly move a button from project to project????
    Thanks

Right click on the button, and elect "create button style" not specific to the project.
Name it and save it self contained.

  • Moving images from project to project

Every time I try to MOVE an image from one project to another project, it COPIES it instead. That's not what the manual says should happen. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks, Fran

Welcome to the list. Have you read the [Help & Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa] section yet?
The only way you would be coping from project to project is if you were holding down the option key while you dragged the image.
If that's not the case then it really sounds like either the source or destination (or both) are other than projects. Remember projects are the yellow file box looking things.

  • Moving tags from imported to People, Places & Events.

I have just started to trial PSE 13 and found out that when importing photos that have been tag into PSE 13 you cannot move any the tags into People, Places & Events. Have I missed something or has Adobe stuff this up big time. I used to be able to drag and drop in PSE 11 so why can I not do this here? I import a lot off photos that have tags on them already and I wish to put them where I want the tags.

    Hi,
This behavior is the same since PSE12. This is because, now we have different categories explicitly defined for People, Places and Events. Drag drop of tags from any of these main already defined categories <Keywords, People, Places and Events>to another is not possible now.
Now, if you want to try this workflow of yours, you can try creating People, Places and events sub categories within Keywords tag category and then you can drag drop your imported tags the way you want to organize them.
Please let me know if I failed to understand your problem.

  • Projects Containing Clips From Many Events

    Hi,
I am hoping that someone can help me solve a problem I am having with my archiving of events and projects in Final Cut Pro X.
Here is my set up… In the office I have a 27" iMac running 10.8.2 and a Mac Pro (Just acquired second hand as a server/import machine) running 10.7.5. and my second editor also occasionally uses his 15" 2012 MacBookPro.
I have just moved over to using a raid array for my storage, and for working directly from. (4 icy boxes, 2 for working from and 2 as backups for the working drives).
What I hope to do is have each event and corresponding projects in a sparse image bundle that can be mounted on each computer individually and worked on from there.
Here is the crux of the problem and my question.
Many of my projects refer to more than one event, usually to my 'master video' or 'master audio' events which hold my commonly used b roll, stock shots, stock music etc. but also when doing multiple videos for the same client over time, I can end up using bits and pieces from many events to create the video I need.
What I need is to find a way to have all this media in the one sparse image bundle WITHOUT having to have each additional event copied into the sparse bundle (as that would be a massive waste of space) . I don't think that the 'duplicate project + used clips only' will suit as we usually have to make many changes to the videos to suit the corporate clients we deal with, and these changes can occur months down the line hence deleting files that are not in use currently could be needed months from now.
'Consolidate' or 'Organise' files doesn't seem to work as it is happy as long as the media is on the same drive, but I need it to copy all the extra files into a particular event folder.
What I'm looking to do is have all the referenced clips in the same folder as the actual event I am working on so that I can take one sparse bundle and edit it on any of the machines without those lovely missing file/event warnings showing up.
Apart from importing each of the individual clips into the event manually is there a way to do this?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Can I bring clips from the project timeline to an event library?

Is there a way to bring clips from a project timeline to an event library? I have about 10 jobs that i have in fcp7 that if i can drag the cut up clips on a timeline into and event library it would probably make me switch over completely to FCPX

You can only import cilps into an Event.  So it's a non-issue.
You can't drag clips from an FCP 7 Sequence into an FCP X timeline, as far as I know.
You'll want to purchase "7toX".  You can export your v.7 project as XML, translate it with 7toX, then import into v.X.

  • How to view playing time of clips in Event or Project library ?

    Hi
I have a 15 minute video and I want to extract clips say at 1:15-1:37 and add to project library. (Someone has send me the times at which to extract the clips)
I understand that clips work on frame basis rather than time basis, but still is there any way I can know what time the clip is running when I press space bar or place my curser on the clips .. something like time in status bar of any media player like VLC.
    Thanks
    Adi

    Hi Adi,
You may have worked something out by now, but try the following:
From iMovie's menu select View>Playhead Info. In both the Events and Projects windows, as you skim across thumbnails you will see a black box with white text moving above the playhead. In Events, it will show just the creation date and time for each clip, which will not provide the information you need. However, in Projects, the box will show the elapsed time as well as the time recorded (shown incrementally).
So, I would suggest that you drag the full 15 minutes to the project. Now you will be able to find the exact time for each part you need for the project. Click and drag across the first section required (say 1:15 - 1:37) so that it is highlighted with a yellow border. Now control-click (or right-click) and select "Split Clip" from the pop-up menu. Continue to do this for any other sections you need to split from the main clip (or clips).
Finally, control-click (or right-click) on all the parts you don't need and select "Delete Selection" from the pop-up menu. The clips remaining in the project will be just those parts you've split from the full video.
TIP: In iMovie's menu select iMovie>Preferences and check (tick) the box labelled "Display time as HH:MM:SS:Frames". Now all times will be displayed down to the frame level.

  • A BUG in FCP 7: Multiclip Markers slip when copied from project to project

Alas, not all things are great with multiclip markers in FCP 7.
We are shooting multicam on a show with dual system sound. Individual camera angles are synced to the production sound (broadcast .wav) and merged to create new master clips that use the stereo production audio instead of the original camera audio, then the new synced/merged clips are made into multiclips using In points set on the slate claps as the multiclip synchronization method. Markers added to the A angle and B angle do indeed stay attached when added in the viewer (thanks for that bug fix, Apple). The assistants are marking the beginning of each take and all resets on each angle, so that both Angle 1 (A camera) and Angle 2 (B camera) have the exact same markers on the exact same frames.
Problem is, when the editor opens the dailies project and copies the bins with the marked multiclips into his editor project, or his or her version of the dailies project is updated, the markers on Angle 2 (B camera) all shift in time (like they were all slipped). All Angle 2 markers in each individual clip slip the same amount, but every multiclip's markers slip a different amount. Copying clips from one bin to another IN THE SAME PROJECT yields the same slippage, and what's more, even messes up the markers in the original master multiclips (as if the copies were not affiliates but literally the same master clip as the multiclips). To make matters even worse, sometimes it's the A camera (Angle 1) that has markers slipping.
This bug does not affect multiclips that are made from the clips using original camera audio. Since the production has, thus far, been unable to properly jam sync the audio and camera timecode, each merged audio multiclip can have, potentially, three different timecode numbers associated with each track, Angle 1, Angle 2 and the stereo audio. Clearly FCP has no idea what to do when it attempts to recreate the clips in another bin or project, but the offset (i.e. how much the markers slip) is not directly correlated to any timecode offset between the different tracks of the multiclip. How weird is that?
It's forcing the editors to mark their own footage, which is really the assistant's job. At least in FCP 6 you could mark the original angles prior to multiclipping and the markers would stay as you switched angles, or you could mark the original angles and then replace the angle in the multiclip with the marked angle and, again, the markers would stay affixed to the angle when you switched from angle to angle. Now that doesn't even work.
    Help!
    Any workaround out there?

Actually the 4:2:2 smoother is for prepping footage in a 4:2:2 color space for chroma keying (it prevents stairstepping due to the blocky chroma values). It is the right setting for DVCPRO HD.
Sure about that? because it already is in a 4:2:2 color space, and there are no stair steps. Only DV has those ugly stair steps. I believe this is for DV. I have never used it, and I have comped a lot of DVCPRO HD.
am using the Chroma Keyer filter from FCP (possibly derived from Primatte?
Nope...Primatte is a NEW filter in FCP 7. The built in Chroma Keyer in FCP downright *****. I use DV Matte Pro for simple stuff in FCP, and Primatte or Keylight for the more complex ones, and in AE or Motion. But Primatte is now in FCP 7...well, a "lite" version called Primatte RT.
If chroma smoothing is causing that issue...don't use it.

  • Copying or moving video from your Event Library to an external hard disk

I have a Network Drive where I'm used to putted all my iMovie08 files.
I'm start using iMovie09 and i'm no longer able to have my *files/library in a network drive*. Did apple remove this functionality? If this is true this is unbelievable because now a days everything goes to network storage. On iTunes i can have my library virtually anywhere. I need to have the same behavior when i'm using iMovie.
    Can someone help me?
    with my best regards,
    Paulo

Copying or moving video from your Event Library to an external hard disk
If you want to save space on your computer’s hard disk, you can move your stored video in your Event Library to a compatible external hard disk connected to your computer with a FireWire or USB 2.0 cable.
You can also copy Events to another hard disk. You might do this, for example, if you want to create a duplicate copy of your video library or an Event on a friend’s hard disk.
NOTE:When using an external hard disk with iMovie, make sure it has been formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    - If i understood correctly, the solution you propose will replace completely my hard disk library with NAS location.
    - What i need (because when i'm travelling i dont have my NAS) is to have both. My hard disk library and the ability to copy/move (drag & drop within iMovies09 ) events and projects to my NAS at my description as i use to do on iMovies08.
And yes all my NAS locations appears with and yellow flag on iMovies09.
    best regards,
    Paulo

  • I took out a clip from project window.

I took out a clip from project window. I went back to the event window and when I played back it was like it skipped a frame.  the audio was fine but the vid was skipping every other frame.  any suggestions?
imovie 11  OSX 10.8.1 imac 16 gigs ram

Buying AppleCare, at this point, would be a waste of money. You voided your warranty when you replaced your optical drive with a hard drive. Only RAM and hard drive bay customer alterations will not affect your warrany.
You could have, I suppose, kept the optical drive and if your computer ever needed Apple repair, have replaced the hard drive for the optical again before taking it in for service. A little bit underhanded, but some people have done it.
You're pretty much just out of luck now...
    Sorry,

  • Moved iMovie 09 project from one computer to another - now timing is wrong!

    Hello,
I wanted to copy some Events and Projects from my Dad's older MacBook Pro to my iMac. So I just copied the event folders (from <Home Directory>/Movies/iMovie Events/) and the project files (from <Home Directory>/Movies/iMovie Projects/) to the corresponding folders on my iMac.
I then opened up iMovie on my iMac and saw that the Events and Projects were there. So far, so good.
The first problem I noticed was when I exported one of the projects from my iMac using QuickTime. The duration of the resulting .MOV file was about 30 seconds shorter than the duration of the project!
I watched the Project in iMovie, and found that the clips in the Project were 'cut off'. For example, the clip in the Project would say it was 10 seconds long, but when you played the Project the clip was only 7 seconds long.
How could this be? Is the speed of the Project somehow tied to the computer that created the project? i.e. perhaps the speed of the processor could impact this? I highly doubt it, as it would make it impossible to move projects from one computer to another.
Bottom line - the identical Project file on my iMac (with the same underlying events) will produce a different exported movie file than the exact same Project file on my Dad's laptop. Specifically, my version will be shorter and the clips will be cut off.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated....

The macrumours link just telss you how to move the events which is relatively straightforward.
Alot of advice just seems to rest with leave the projects on your internal drive as they don't take up much space.
However, http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/im08tricks has a description of how to move the projects and then 'fool' imovie into where the projects are stored.
Not very flexible but it does allow you to 'clear' your macbook yet when you restore the sym-link file to the right place and restart imovie you can reconnect to all your old projects and events without yellow triangles of death appearing.
By the by apple needs to sort this out as archiving old projects and events together and preserve the editing is a really basic requirment I think.
PS anyone found out how to merge projects yet? Another basic function that seems to be lacking.

  • Is there a way to place markers in a multicam clip, and then have those same markers carry over when you select part of the clip for a project (or various projects)?

Is there a way to place markers in a multicam clip, and then have those same markers carry over when you select part of the clip for a project (or various projects)?

Thanks. Beforehand, I was double clicking on the multicam clip and forced to make a marker on either the Cam A or B. I realize now that I can do it in the Event Browser. THANK YOU.
Considering I may create >20 markers per clips for around 10 different interviews, I wish there was a way to bring the Event Brower to the bottom half of the FCPX windows, to resemble the screen orientation when I'm working in an actual project (one could do this in iMovie), and this way the markers could be listed to the left without having all the other event clips around it. Is that clear? Is that possible?

  • Sharing clip markers across projects

I'm using FCE4. I have a .mov file from an HD camera. What I want to do is go through the long clip and add a bunch of extended markers to make it easier to find key footage later on. This part I know how to do. Here's the problem. Let's say I add this clip to project A and project B. At the time I add the clip to each project the clip contains all the markers already in place. Now let's say while working on project A I add two more markers to the clip. If I then go to project B the two new markers do not exist in the clip.
So my question is how do I share a clip and its markers across multiple projects such that if I add a new marker to the clip in a project the new marker also shows up automatically for the clip in the other projects too?
Here's what I tried so far (and it didn't work). Create project A. Add the clip. Add a bunch of markers. Right-click on the clip and select Copy. Create project B. Paste the clip into project B. Add new marker to clip in project B. New marker not in clip in project A.
    Thanks.

Bummer. I was afraid of that. Thanks.
P.S. I just spent the last week making great use of your book. Well done.

  • Moving clips between events

In the FCPX manual, it states that you can move clips between events by just clicking and dragging a clip from one event to another. It also says that doing the same thing with the option key down will copy clips to the other event.
However, I've noticed that dragging a clip to another event just makes a copy of the clip. It's kinda annoying. Any workaround?

I'm seeing odd behaviour with this too.
Imported a tape which contained 3 separate days footage of different activities.
These were imported to my Movies folder in Home directory.
I created 2 new events and tried moving the content as per manual instructions for content on same drive but I only ended up with copies or a freeze due to a non-updating background activity (the file transfer).
Ended up with multiple copies of the same clips in different events on the same drive, some events listing the clips several times but only a single physical clip when viewed in Finder.
I managed to move a single clip successfully but for the life of me not sure why that worked - maybe because it was a single clip not a group?
This is very disconcerting behaviour when you're trying to organise content.

  • PIP / Green screen only using clips from project libary

    Hello,
I've been experimenting with iMovie and looking to combine some clips and do some PIP, Greenscreen, etc. The only way I combine 2 clips to to drag it down from the event library. Is there no way to combine 2 clips from the project library?
I ask this because all the clips on the project library are edited, cut and ready to go. The event library footage is hours long and raw, seems like a obvious thing to be able to combine 2 project libary clips but I cannot seem to do it.
Failing that, I though maybe add the Project library clip to the event library and do it that way but that also does not seem to work
Hopefully I've explained myself ok, if you need any more info or explanation just ask.

Yes, you need to drag clips from the Event Library to the project.
If you need to use some edited project clips in a project, you should use the SHARE menu to Export Using QuickTime. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the video codec, and save it to a place where you can find it. Then you can import it to an iMovie Event using FILE/IMPORT MOVIES...
