Moving Markers with Clips in Multitrack View?

Say for example I want to set a marker at 10:50 on a clip in Multitrack view, but then I move the clip forward by 5 minutes.
To my knowledge, the only way I can set a marker is if I set it on the Multitrack itself, and not the clips within the multitrack...which results in the marker staying at 10:50 even though I'd like it to move to 15:50
Is there a way to set a marker on the clip (without going into the clip's waveform) so that it'll move around with any changes?
Basically, I'm looking for the same functionality present in After Effects when you press Numpad * on a layer and it creates a marker relative to that time in the layer, rather than an 'objective' marker in the scheme of the entire multitrack.
Thanks!

No, I think the only way to do it is to add the Marker in the Waveform Edit view. But make sure that Synchronize Clips with Waveform Editor is turned on in Preferences/Multitrack Clips so that the Play Head cursor and view remain synced in both views.

  • Moving markers with clips

    I'm just starting to use markers more.
    If markers are already placed on the timeline, how to I get them to move when I delete a clip that shifts the sequence timing?

    I don't think they'll move on the timeline...
    You could select your video and/or audio, and set markers there (in-line with timeline markers). Then, after you delete, (shifting sequence timing), just deselect the media and place new markers on the timeline, in-line with the clip markers.
    Bear in mind, this will leave the previous markers on the timeline, until you delete them.

  • Moving multiple markers at once in multitrack view

    I've got a track I'm cutting an animation to in AE - it's actually a mix of two different tracks so I've created it in the multitrack view. I've put markers for the start of each bar so that when I export it as a WAV file I can see these in AE and use them as guides.
    I've had to chop four bars out of the mix during a breakdown section which was a bit ambient and didn't have markers in it, which now means that all my markers are 4 bars too late. I don't think it's possible to move a bunch of them at once, is it? The ideal thing would probably be to select them all in the markers window, and then be able to roll back the timecode on any of them so that all of them move by that amount (a bit like repositioning a load of layers in AE).
    In this instance it's not a biggie because none of the markers are named so I can just create a few to fill in the gap, but it'd be a useful little feature to have.

    No, I think the only way to do it is to add the Marker in the Waveform Edit view. But make sure that Synchronize Clips with Waveform Editor is turned on in Preferences/Multitrack Clips so that the Play Head cursor and view remain synced in both views.

  • Markers on clips don't move with project when switching media drives

    Here's an odd one. I'm editing a project in Premiere Pro CS6 and in order to avoid carrying drives back and forth between two editing locations, I cloned the footage drive and have one duplicate drive in each location. I'll call them location A and B.
    I have no problem relinking clips when I move back and forth from location to location. That's all working great, as expected.
    When I am reviewing clips at edit location A, I've been placing a marker on the hero moments to make them easier to find later when editing. The strange (or perhaps perfectly normal) thing is that when I move to edit location B and relink the clips, all of my markers that I made at location A are gone.
    The same thing happens when creating markers on clips at location B. When I move to location A, the markers made at location A are there, but the new ones added at B are gone... until I return to location B.
    In other words, it seems like markers are not saved as part of the project, but are saved within each clip file. If that's true, what I'm experiencing would make sense. Even though I'm relinking the clips when I change edit locations, the markers are part of the footage files on each of my duplicate drives and do not move with me when I change locations.
    I just wanted to confirm this is "how premiere pro works," or see if there is a preference checkbox or workaround I'm not aware of. Maybe I've found a bug? If this is just how it is, I'll have to come up with an alternate way to mark footage I'm reviewing, or just move the drives with me when I move, which I'd love to avoid.
    Thanks for any thoughs on this anyone has.

    Wes, my deepest apoligies for not responding to your kind answer sooner. I had moved on, thinking it was just one of those things, until another editor colleague of mine, found my original question recently and emailed me to find out if there was a solution.
    It appears that even with Premiere Pro CC, copying the XMP sidecar files to the second media drive remains the answer. Sadly my editor friend did most of his pre-edit clip marking in one city and traveled several states away to begin the edit and when he arrived, all of his marks were, of course, not there.
    It would be great if somehow the metadata could be tied to the project, rather than the sidecar XMP files. Perhaps not technically feesible, but it would certainly make more sense from an editing standpoint to not have to be copying sidecar files every time you move to a edit location with duplicate media drives.
    I will most likely write a feature request to see if this can be achived in future versions of Premiere.
    Thanks again for your support and reply.

  • Encore chapter markers which move with clip

    Problem: Encore chapter markers which move with clip
    CS4 Production Suite
    XP Pro SP3
    I have 9 sequences with each containing 4 Encore chapter markers. As expected in the real world, the end users continually want edits to the sequences. If I razor out a piece of a clip in the sequence, the Encore chapter markers stay fixed to the time ruler and do not move with the clip. As a result, one has to manually move each Encore chapter marker to re-align with the proper location on a clip. This is time consuming and makes no sense. Is there anyway for the Encore chapter markers to act like clip markers so they move with edits?
    If not, does someone have a plugin which would look at the Encore chapter markers in a sequence and place corresponding clip markers on Video 1. After editing, the plugin could re-align the Encore chapter markers with their respective clip markers.

    What is needed are Encore Chapter Clip Markers so Encore markers follow the clip. Just as you would move the current-time indicator to the frame where you want an Encore chapter point and then right click (Windows) in the time ruler and choose the type of marker, a new context menu item "Encore Chapter Clip Marker" would be available which would place an Encore chapter marker on the clip in the currently selected video track. With this, one could edit the sequence and know the Encore chapter point is still at the same frame of the clip.
    I encourage others to either copy this feature description or their own version and submit it to the Feature Request Page for Premiere.
    Feature Request Page
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
    One should submit this Feature to both Premiere and Encore since both are effected. By the way, Encore has a Feature Request user form you may also want to submit this to. Premiere does not appear to have a Feature Request user form so I used the Feature Request Page mentioned above.

  • Voice Over Recording Edit view vs Multitrack View

    Hi Guys, need some advice here.
    I have always recorded Voice Overs in edit view with Audition 3.0 (Windows 7 64bit)
    Recently I purchased a Creative sound card (X-Fi Titanium HD) which sounds great and records 24/96Khz with great results using several different microphones, mainly a EV RE20.
    I have the main outputs of my mixer left and right coming out using 1/4 inch cables and going into the soundcards Aux left and right inputs via RCA..
    In Auditions audio hardware setup edit view, there is only a choice for either Aux left or Aux right but not a mix of both as a input. (using Aux left)
    Not using the mic input on the card because I wanted to use the RCA ins (Left/Right) on the soundcard and the mic input is a single 1/8 input which would require another Y 1/4 to 1/8 cable and the fact that I have had issues with 1/8 inputs before.
    So, when I record Voice Overs in edit view, I think I"m really getting only half the signal (Aux left) which means I need to up the gain on the preamp more than I would like to get a good level.
    Recently, I have been recording in multitrack view using Track 1 Aux left and Track 2 Aux right and then doing a mixdown to mono which results in a nice strong level without having to boost the gain to much.
    So I guess my questions would be am I in fact only recording half the signal in edit view by just using Aux left
    and if that is true, should I just continue to record in multitrack view using the setup I decribed above.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    gdg444 wrote:
    I have always heard that if you just raised the level using gain you take the chance of also introducing more noise in the signal and I was wanting to avoid that.
    The short and sweet answer to this is that once you've recorded the signal, the amount of noise is fixed. But what you have to do to optimise this is called 'gain staging'. In the case of your preamp, this invariably means that you set the gain so that the clipping indicator (I take it that it has one?) indicates that you've got it just lower than it takes to light it on the loudest sound you want to record. With these signals present, you then set the input level control on your sound device (not the same as gain) so that it records these signals at around -5 to -10dB, in a controlled environment. In a non-controlled environment you'd allow a bit more than that. This gap between the -10dB and 0dB is called 'headroom'.
    So basically, you are recording the best signal to noise ratio you can get from your preamp at the best level you can with your sound device. And that, by definition, is optimum.

  • Different Audio Levels in Edit View vs. Multitrack View

    Here's what happens...
    I begin a new session. I then import a .wav file and it appears in the left column. I double-click the .wav so I'm in Edit View. When I play the clip, it ranges from about -9 to -6 dB. Now I go back to Multitrack View without having edited or changed the .wav in any way. I send the clip to Track 1. When it plays back, it now ranges from about -12 to -9 dB on the levels meter...this is an issue. In terms of trying to balance audio levels within a session, something that sounds good in one view might be too loud or too soft when playing back in the other. It's my understanding that regardless of Edit View or Multitrack View, a .wav should play at the same exact levels (unless you tamper with the mixer which I have not done).
    So my question is, why is there a 3dB difference between playing a clip in Edit View vs. Multitrack View?

    Try setting view>advance session properties>mixing>
    L/R cut logarithmic

  • How to preserve markers from Waveform in Multitrack

    Hello,
    I'm having a big difficulty with this.  We edit our podcasts by first putting marks on all the tracks we record (in waveform editor).
    We would the like to import the tracks into Multitrack so that the markers are still visible and we could edit the tracks there.  This however does not happen. The marker lines get preserved but not their description.
    Another workaround would be to edit directly from the waveform but here I can't seem to find a way to copy and paste.  The blade tool does not work in Waveform editor (for good reasons) but the selection tool is also useless as it is impossible to copy a part of a track and paste it into a multitrack.
    Could someone prove me wrong ?  Would appreciate this tremendously.
    Maciek

    No, it's not easy. There is a work around which might help. Having placed and named all your markers in Waveform view open the Markers panel and Merge them into Ranges . Then you can select the Range of audio you want to paste into the Multitrack view and click on the icon in the middle top of the Markers panel ( it will become active when you select a Marker. This will then let you Insert the selected Range into the Multitrack.
    However there is a "gotcha" here in that Audition will normally only insert the audio at the beginning of a free track regardless of where the cursor is placed. you can get round this by using the Time Selection Tool in the Multitrack view to select some time in a bit of free space on a selected track. The audio region will be placed at the start of the selected time. If the time selection you made is shorter than the inserted audio you can pull the end out to include all of the region.
    It sounds more complicated in writing than it actually is to do. Once you have tried it you will probably find that it is quite a quick procedure.

  • Can't see clip preview in clip or timeline view

    This may be a simple problem, but I am brand new to this. I am making a movie out of photos, and the process seems simple. I drag a photo from my iphoto library (from the photos pane) into the clip view (or timeline). The image is imported and the movie looks correct when played, but in the clip (or timeline) view below all imported clips are just black. So I can't really easily edit the clips because I have no idea which one is which (besides looking at the filename!). The images I am importing are jpegs and like I said it has no problem playing the movie correctly I just see what I am working with in the clip view. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum!
    The image is imported and the movie looks correct when played, but in the
    clip (or timeline) view below all imported clips are just black.
    Very strange.
    To make sure we understand what you see... The imported image plays okay on the timeline after it's imported, but its thumbnail in the timeline is black. Instead of the thumbnail showing the imported image, the thumbnail is black. Correct?
    Does the imported clip play black too?
    The only thing I can think of that makes a clip play black is when the Ken Burns Effect is set to pan above/below the image or left/right of the image. Then, instead of importing the image, Ken Burns imports the black border along one side of the image.
    To unset the pan so Ken Burns is centered over the image, do this:
    1. Click on any image in the iPhoto library.
    2. Turn ON the Ken Burns checkbox.
    3. Click in the "Start" half of the Start/End thingy.
    4. Drag the zoom slider (the slider with the small/large face profile) a bit to the right, then all the way to the left.
    5. Click on the "End" half of the thingy and repeat #4.
    Now the import is centered. If the pan was causing the problem, that should fix it.

    What do you mean by "a Path Layer was created"?  Path are in the path palette, there is a path in shape layers and they is a path in a vector layer mask. I have never seen a reference to a path layer before this.  When a path in the path palette is selected activate it wall also be shown in the image window.  Does not matter if there is a targeted layer or not.  Control points may or may not be displayed. Using Path tool you can select and select segments and show some or all control points, Path are editable.

    I'm trying to reverb an audio clip in my timeline and I can't find the effect tab in the browser to drag to my audio clip to reverb. I can reverb the clip in the viewer but it won't drag to the timeline. I'm using FCE

    You cannot drag the effects themselves to the timeline.  You add them to a clip in the Viewer, just as you have done.
    If the clip was already in the timeline when you  opened it in the Viewer (by double-clicking it in the timeline to open it in the Viewer) and then added the reverb effect, there is nothing further to do, you have added the effect to the clip.  You don't drag it back to the timeline.
    You only have to drag the clip to the timeline if the clip was not already in the timeline (for example, if you opened the clip from the FCE Browser; or set different In and Out points in a master clip to use a different portion of the master clip in a different location in your timeline).
    Depending on the effect you add, you may have to render the timeline after adding the effect.  But I don't think reverb requires immediate rendering.  One other note, you said you were working with an audio clip ... audio clips need to be AIFF (not MP3 or something else) and preferably 16-bit stereo.

  • Why does Illustrator CS4 save pdfs with clipping paths and make rasters of gradient areas

    I am on a IMAC and upgraded to 10.6.8 Jan 2014. I am using CS4 Illustrator to create with. When i save my work as a pdf then reopen the pdf in Ill to make changes, the whole page has:
    A.) Multiple clipping paths around it
    B.) Most text has now become outlined. Not editable anymore.
    C.) Gradient areas have multiple clipping paths of the single gradient area
    D.) The gradient areas now become rasterized.
    This is very frustrating as now all of my marketing files, some 300+, are worthless. I don't know where to look anymore to find the problem.
    Please help.
    Thank you very much

    John,
    I have the presets as you have shown. I had been editing the supplied items as you suggested. Then figured i should ask the questions of those who are better than I.
    But still a bit confused as to why the new save places clipping paths around the document.
    Thank you John and Monika for your help.

    I do a save as "pdf" in the format pull down tab. I save to a folder on the hard drive. Where is the "Illustrator editability" check box? I presumed it is in Acrobat some where
    but i seem to be lost.
    It is in Illustrator's Save Adobe PDF dialog, which pops up before the saved file is written.

    Sorry i didn't mention this, but this seems to have occurred when using images and text from provided pdfs.
    That's a critical fact. If you didn't do the original save, the above is moot, and it's too late to exercise any control over the save process. Someone else failed to save for editability. The only thing you can do is clean up/repair the content, (release clipping masks, rebuild rasterized elements, expand objects, etc.), and save correctly as AI. Then, if necessary, re-save as PDF with the correct settings.

  • How do I stop the ruler from moving along with my guide line as I move it?

    Hello everyone,
    I am new to muse and may well be missing the obvious here, but I have a little problem, which until it is solved is a big road block to me.
    I am trying to move a guide lower on the page and can not do that because the left ruler is moving along with the guide!
    How do I lock the ruler itself, so the guide can be moved to a different position on the ruler?
    Totally weird. I have tried searching "locking rulers" both in this site and in google, but got no results at all.  I don't think the rulers are supposed to move in the first place, so am worried that nobody out there may have an answer to this.
    So I am stuck for now & I can't finish my project unless this is solved.
    Thanks for reading,
    Pat

    I would need more details for this, as you have mentioned rulers move ? Are you referring to rulers on page in design ?
    You can move a guide lower down the page , ruler marks will be displayed on ruler but that will not stop you moving the guides.
    What happens if you uncheck rulers from top view options ?
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Moving markers

    In a cartesian chart, I have four series, three line and one
    column series. I want to show moving markers on all of the four
    series, when mouse is moved in chart region. Moving markers like
    circle...
    For that, I am using array of items which I have got through
    items property of series object. and with the help of that array I
    am getting x and y co-ordinates of each item.
    I am then passing these co-ordinates to localToGlobal
    function on series object to get global co-ordinates. After this, I
    am getting the item with minimum diff between its co-ordinates and
    the point where mouse is.
    But the thing is, I am not getting exact item at the place,
    where the mouse is. For whole width of an item on X-axis, i am
    getting that item when the mouse is at the middle of that width.
    Here is the sample code.....
    var
    arrSeries:Array=(ChartBase)(myPanel.getChildAt(1)).series;
    for(var i:int=0;i<arrSeries.length;i++)
    var arrItem:Array=arrSeries
    .items;
    var flag:int=-1;
    var diff:int=100000000000;
    for(var j:int=0;j<arrItem.length;j++)
    arrItem[j].currentState="deselected";
    for(var j:int=0;arrItem && j<arrItem.length;j++)
    var p:Point =arrSeries.localToGlobal(new
    Point(arrItem[j].x,arrItem[j].y));
    if(diff>Math.abs(Math.ceil(p.x-event.currentTarget.mou*No
    thank you*)))
    diff=Math.abs(Math.ceil(p.x-event.currentTarget.mou*No thank
    you*));
    flag=j;
    if(flag!=-1)
    showValues(arrSeries
    .yField,arrItem[flag]);
    arrItem[flag].currentState="selected";

    Yeah...get FCP 7. That feature was added to that upgrade. Other than that...you are stuck moving them manually.
