Moving .me to the iCloud on my Mac

I just took an iPhone4S workshop at an Apple Store and was told that no, I do not need to upgrade my Mac 10.6.8 from Snow Leopard to Lion in order to move .me to iCloud but everything I've read online says yes I do.  Which is it?

Well they are correct. To "move" you only need to visit www.icloud.com.
The question is HOW you want to USE iCloud :
You can use it fully on your iOS5 device if this is the only device you want to backup data to the cloud.
But if you plan of syncing your Adressbook,Bookmarks,Mail,iCal across your iOS5 device and the Mac, then the Mac on the other side of the story MUST run nothing less then 10.7.2 Lion.
You can leave it at Snow and visit all times www.icloud.com to peek into your appointments that you done on the iphone , but that is not "syncing".
So in other words : 10.6.8 will not work together with icloud or only extremely limited dealing with Safari all the time. Especially no Bookmarks, no Photostreams - even if you run the latest iPhoto 11 version on Snow ( photostream will only be clickable in Lion ).

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:

  • How to use Documents & Data in the iCloud on my mac?

    Dear Sir,
When you activate Documents & Data from System Preferences/iCloud it means that it can be stored and synced with my MAC.
You can see this when you disable Documents & Data from System Preferences/iCloud, it says that (All Docments & Data Stored in my MAC will be deleted)
So, there should be a folded that can store and sync my Documents & Data with iCloud.
    So, How?
Or anyhow, how does it work?
    Thanks,
    Boudy,

So, iCloud is just for upload and download.
I even could not use the documents on the web. how come?
is it just a place to upload and download only? It should be used as a device on the Web also. and it should be synced with my Mac or PC. In this way, It could be useful. But to upload a document to the web, then modify it by any IOS5, in this case I will have 2 versions, one in the could, and another in my mac, and i have to keep update with the new one. if i modify the one in my mac, i have to re-upload again before using the one in the cloud or i'll be using another old version. and if i modify the version in the cloud, i should re-download it to my mac before using the version which is already in my mac. it is really going terrible.
I'm really disappointed from the iCould.
It is just for mail, syncing contacts and iCal, Find my iPhone.
iDisk and Photo Gallery was something unbelievable.
Hope apple to keep iDisk & Photo Galley and to update the iCloud

  • Where will I be able to get the iCloud software for mac OS X 10.5.8

    Hi people!
I need to know how to download the iCloud software on my desktop. Also need to know how to set it up with my iPhone. Thanks

iCloud is only available when you upgrade to the Mac OS 10.7 Lion.

  • HT4859 What do I have to do to use the iCloud with a Mac having OS x 10.7.5?

I get to the iCloud from System Preferences, but I can't get the mac to start backing up the Address Book or any thing else. I need an app that  replaces the Settings>iCloud>Backup & Storage panels of the "iCloud: Back and restore overview" document.
I'm assuming that Mountain Lion has this app, but I'm not going to upgrade because users comments show that Mountain Lion is a dissaster, reminds me on Microsoft foibles or other times.

    Hi,
You may either add the device and the drivers will obtain via Software Update, for full functionality you may also install the full feature software from the HP site:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-96135-2 &cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&product=5063582&sw_lang=
Be sure to check the HP REcommended Software option while installing, reboot your Mac after the installation done and run Software Update.

Right, so I have some albums in the iCloud and I want to download them to my Mac.  How is this done?

  • Hey,  I don´t know why or what but while I was using my mac, the icloud locked my mac and now asking for a PIN lock with 4 numbers that I never set up before... What a need to do to fix it??

Hey I just want to use my mac but I can´t sign up it because asking me for a PIN LOCK that I don´t have any idea...

If your Mac was locked with Find My Mac, you'll have to take it to an Apple store or authorized service provider to have it unlocked.  You will need to bring the necessary paperwork to prove that it is yours.  From http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4006:
"Only Apple retail stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers can unlock computers protected by a firmware password, such as passwords set with Find My Mac.
If you cannot remember the firmware password for your computer, schedule a service appointment with either an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make areservation at the Genius Bar (only available in some countries)."

  • HT4859 how do i backup my mac pc to the iCloud?

I'm having problems working out how to apply the Icloud to my mac, all information given is for devices connected to pc not the pc itself

That's correct.  You can't.  It's only for mobile devices. The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview which you probably already have read:
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails

  • How can I reset the iCloud on my phone when old id was hacked?

    Hello,
I need help changing the email account on the iCloud on my iPhone. The old Apple ID was a yahoo email address and unfortunately that address was recently hacked. I can no longer send/receive emails in the yahoo account so I've deactivated it and opened a new gmail account. I was able to delete the Yahoo account on the iCloud on my Mac because it had a simple +- button at the bottom. I want to change the email address on the iCloud on my phone but it keeps asking for the password of the deactivated yahoo account. I've tried verifying it through the "date of birth" question but it says my answer is invalid.
What do I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Hello Yumiko,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing after changing your Apple ID.  I have a couple of suggestions to help you log into your iCloud account on your iPhone 5s.
First, I recommend the following article:
iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5223
If you are still not able to log out of iCloud and are unable to reset the password for your previous Apple ID, I recommend using the following resource for assistance with resetting your previous Apple ID password:
Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I have no idea whether there is a causal relationship but since moving to Lion and iCloud, my iMac has become so unresponsive that I wind up having to crash and restart most of the time.  This is true regardless of the app I am using at the time.
The specs of this iMac are:
iMac 27 inch, late 2009 model with a 3.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 Gig 1067 Mhz DDR3, using OSX Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
I have Mackeeper installed and according to the scans I have run, everything is fine. No virus, no junk files . . . no problems at all . . .
Except that for all practical purposes, my computer isn't working.
I am nearly totally deaf and live in an isolated, rural area of NW Missouri and this computer is what I mainly rely on to contact friends, relatives and business associtates!
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than ten or so files or folders on your Desktop, move them, temporarily at least, somewhere else in your home folder.
If iCloud is enabled, disable it.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

  • Is there a way to Move files to the iCloud thus freeing up disk space on my Mac? Or does iCloud only sync (replicate) files between my Mac and the cloud?

Is there a way to Move files to the iCloud thus freeing up disk space on my Mac? Or does iCloud only sync (replicate) files between my Mac and the cloud? I want to free up disk space on my Mac and assumed that the icloud would be a good way to do this, but having 'moved' 70Gb of files to the iCloud drive (I've upgraded to 200Gb storage) my Mac is still nearly full and I've realised that it seems to just Sync files just like dropbox.

So, the big question is did the Apple guys confirm that this is how the new iCloud drive should be working?  I'm guessing, from your response, that this is indeed the case.  Are they going to fix this anytime soon?  I thought that this was a new function of the iCloud drive in Yosemite.
I just want an online storage facility to back up my photo & music collections.  I did look at Dropbox as they have a good deal going with their Dropbox Pro, however this is still just a sync service where the Master files reside on your local disk drive - although I have read that there may be a way to work around this.  Still not ideal.

  • My mac mini is 2007 and has a core duo so I cannot install lion which needs a 2 core duo. Does this exclude me from the iCloud or is there a way I can upgrade my mac mini?

Mac mini duo core. I want to join the iCloud as I have MobileMe . However my mac mini has a dou core and not a 2 duo core I cannot by the lion app to install. Is there anyway I can upgrade my mac mini to 2 duo core? Or get the iCloud installed any other way?

You must have Lion to use iCloud, although you can still access iCloud.com for the web services. Your email is unaffected.
