Moving media to a SAN

I am setting up an XSan system for a client and they will need to still use one of the RAID arrays for a project that is progress. I will need to copy the media to the new SAN when it is available and wonder about relinking the media. If the volumes are named the exact same and the directory structure is identical will the media need to be relinked?

There is a good chance that if the directory structure is maintained that FCP will find the media on its own...

What does this error message mean? I have made hundreds of MOVEs without incident. Now I generate the error message " ERROR MOVING MEDIA." Adobe employees do read these forums, but I don't know who, how often, and how seriously (other than the episodes with broken Help and the photo downloader). Sometimes you'll see someone whose name appears in the program credits posting.

They claim to read every submission, but since there's usually no feedback to the submitters, it's hard to know how effective submissions really are. The "feedback" forms most companies have seem to go into the bit bucket.

I filed a number of detailed bug reports there (including the Move bug), but support's feedback consists of giving you a tracking number and confirming it's a bug -- they're not empowered to do anything else. (And surprisingly, they ask you to resubmit the bug report through the submission form above -- pretty shocking that a company's customer support doesn't have a mechanism to directly submit bug reports to their developers.) But at least you're getting an acknowledgment!

Artwork no longer shows up after moving media to external hard drive

I recently, and successfully, moved all my media over to a continuously connected external hard drive. Although my media folder and all music, movies, and apps are there, No NEW art work downloads when I buy a new movie or song. I've also noticed that, under the old iTnes folder there are still folders there for Album Artwork/Cache/Download. Should these also be moved over to the new drive or somehow linked in some way?

If you moved the iTunes folder to your external drive, you moved the iTunes library file - iTunes Library.itl, which is in that folder.
You need to tell iTunes where it is, start iTunes with the shift key held down and iTunes should ask you to choose a library.

Moved media to external drive and now iphone won't sync!

The update is that I have now successfully updated my ipod nano and my ipad, but when I plug in my iphone 4s, it goes through the syncing motions, then says "cancelling sync" when it gets to step 6 of 6.

I recently moved ALL of my media (music, movies, etc) to my external Seagate 1TB hard drive to free up 200+ gig on my Macbook pro. I followed all of the steps, everything works perfectly, iphone is recognized and syncs all playlists, apps, etc EXCEPT it won't add any new music since the transfer.
So for instance, I added a new playlist for the new NIN album. It sits in the exact same place as all of my other music, but when I sync the phone, it only syncs the older media and NIN is nowhere to be found on the iphone.
I've scoured every message board and blog I can find and can't seem to find the answer.
Anyone??

I updated itunes and my iphone with the new IOS7 last night and phone will still not sync with itunes.
Is there really not ONE person in the entire Apple community who can help with the most basic problem there is - syncing my phone with itunes???
I'm asking nicely - please help!!!

Moving media files to networked hard drive

I just moved my media files to a hard drive connected to my time capsule. I thought I did it the way we're supposed to: specifying a new library location, and then organizing the library so that all of the files get copied to the new location. That worked fine, but when I start itunes (10) and do a command-I on a song, the file location is still the old one. I changed the directory name of the old media folder, and even moved the folder outside of the itunes folder, and every time I start itunes it still points to the old library. When I check my settings, the new library location is listed as the default library, but it seems as if the itunes library file is still looking for the old media folder. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks!

I recently purchased a time capsule and moved all my media to the new drive. I changed the default library location in preferences. Problem is, every time I quit and relaunch iTunes, the default library location reverts back to my old location on my mac. Any ideas how I can get iTunes to remember my new default location? It's as if it's picking up a location file somewhere that is telling it to create a new library on my mac's hard drive.

I don't have a TC but I also keep my iTunes library on an external Firewire drive and the following is the behaviour. Maybe it's so for you too:
• When the firewire drive is mounted on the desktop and I open iTunes, iTunes will link back to the library on the firewire drive.
• When the firewire drive is unmounted and I open iTunes, iTunes preferences will revert the library to default back to the internet drive.
• BUT, when I remount the firewire drive, and open iTunes again (after it's been closed), iTunes preferences will automatically go back to linking the library on the firewire drive.
So in short: when unmounted, iTunes links music library to the original default which is the internal drive. When mounted, iTunes will automatically relink music back to the firewire drive.
Does it work like so for iTunes on Time Capsule?

HT1449 Partially corrupted iTunes library after moving media folder

I moved my media folder to a new hard drive but somehow lost the library file in the process. I used my time machine backup to get an old library file and I placed it back in the iTunes folder on my home drive, but unfortunately it's a few months old, and additions to my itunes folder since then are invisible when I open iTunes. Is there a way to force the iTunes app to rebuild the library, thus recognizing my new downloads since the old library file was built? Songs I'd downloaded and copied from my CDs up to the old library build are working fine.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.
To answer your question, drag the media folder on the other drive to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder. It will add anything that's not in iTunes and ignore anything that is.

Trouble moving project via X-San

Hello,
I am having trouble moving a project between edit suites using an X-San. When attemping to open the timeline in another room I receive two errors,
1. Error: Access Denied
2. Error: Out of Memory
I have check to make sure I have Read/Write Permissions ect.
Has anyone had this problem or know what might cause it?

There seems to be a lag with the Mail.app in regards to synchronization with messages stored on the server even when selecting "Automatically synchronize changed mailboxes" under the Advanced tab for the account preferences.
As a test, after doing the same try taking the account offline and then online and or quit and re-launch the Mail.app.
Check if the transferred message is still in both locations on the server.

Thank you for replying. I had no idea I had a response. It is a Windows 7 Home Premium. The game is actually now a few different ones for my child, Baby Luv, Brave & Disney Princesses. None of them will work. I have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 graphics card in this (Compaq Presario All-In-One Desktop PC) and I just posted another question in the forum about wanting to know if I can replace the grahics card with a HD card and if so how? I have looked online but can't find an answer. Is it possible to replace the card or with it being an all-in-one is it not possible? Thank you.

Memory management, Moving media files.

Hi guys.
I've just recently installed a 4GB MSD/HC card with a view to freeing up some memory on the phone itself. I was hoping to move all my music, videos and images to the memory card.
The images moved across fine with only a little bit of trouble from "Desktop Photo Applet", but once I redirected it to the card things are now OK there.
I'd also like to do the same with all the music tracks and videos that are stored in phone memory, but as soon as I moved most of the music tracks, media player started going mammaries skyward, complaining it couldn't find tracks. needless to say I moved them back and didn't bother trying to move the videos.
Is there any effective way of doing this?

did you give the media player enough time to refresh the files?
When I've moved stuff before, after a few seconds the media player says obtaining information on new media files.
Once it has refreshed, everything worked ok

That does not answer the question of what CPU, it could be any one of >> these, << Media Live does not come with CPU pre-installed so we have no way of knowing which one it has, remove the HSF from the CPU and give us the OPN.

Moving media to NAS but two libraries on computer

I'm using iTunes for Windows and until recently stored my media on the hard drive in the computer. We have two logins for the PC, and each user has their own iTunes library - some library items pointing to the same media, others unique to each library.
i have bought a NAS drive and for the first user I have changed in preferences the folder where music is stored to the NAS drive and checked the keep music organised button. This successfully copied the music over to the NAS drive, but of course only the music in the first users library.
if I now login as the second user, what will happen if I change the folder to the NAS drive again. Will I get a load of duplicates in my new NAS drive music folders for music which we both had in our libraries?
what is the best solution for me?!

Yes.

I don't know about best, but a possible solution is my script ConsolidateByMoving. You would change the media folder, but decline the invitation to consolidate files, then use the script to do it.
If you have iOS devices note that recent versions of iTunes have trouble with updating apps when the media folder is accessed via a UNC path instead of a mapped drive letter.

Moving Media Files

I just purchased a Synology NAS with a built in iTunes server and want to move my files from my secondary drive onto the NAS. I know this question has been asked about a hundred times, but my situation doesn't seem to be the same. Currently I have two different users (my wife and I) on the PC, each with a different library file, but the same media.
I manually manage all my music, TV shows, movies, etc which are stored in a secondary HDD (G:\). I want to move everything to the NAS and be able to use the built in iTunes server. At this point, I'm not set on forcing it to retain my file structure, so if I need to let iTunes move things around, I'm ok with that.
How would I go about doing this with two different users? I don't want duplicates of my stuff on the NAS.

I was hoping someone would be able to help me with this, but I'm guessing it has to be something no one has ever done before.
I would just really like to move everything to the NAS and modify my directory structure without having to rebuild both libraries.

Premiere Pro/After Effects CC on Mac OSX crashes when moving media

I have Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, in both programs whenever I attempt to move any media (any format) to the timeline from the media browser window Premiere (and After Effects) crashes immediately.
I'm using a MacBook Pro w/ retina, running latest OS, and I have the Microsoft Office suite of apps installed.
Customer service had a go fixing it but to no avail, apparently it has something to do with fonts if that helps anyone, i've reverted all the fonts on my Mac back to the default but still nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try the following:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
Update any GPU drivers
Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe folder preferences are set to read/write in all 3 locations.
Delete media cache
Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
Disable App Nap
Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.
