Moving MPG movies to iPhone

What video format do I need to convert my MPG formatted movies to in order to synch to my iPhone 4?
I had attempted to synch the MPG format movies and got the iTunes message that the movies could not be synched becuase the movies could not be played on the iPhone.
I upgraded to Quicktime Pro 7 thinking that by opening and then saving to MOV format would do the trick but no...
iTune synch now says the movies were not synched because iPhone does not support the video format.
I save the converted movies as a 'self contained movies' rather than as a 'reference movie...was that my mistake?

Does QT Pro include a default iPhone compatible setting for the export?
iTunes includes this option, which will create a copy of the selected video in an iPhone compatible format. If this works, you can keep both copies in iTunes or if you don't want or need both, delete the original in iTunes.

MPEG Streamclip (free) will convert MPG (multiplexed MPEG-1) files. As to resolution, you can re-scale the files during the conversion process but it merely increases the conversion time without improving quality. iMovie "08 automatically re-scales project files for display/export.

To migrate your phone to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll. If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep on the phone, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; your other devices won't be effected by this), provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone (if using iOS 7) and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted . Then sign back in with your new Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data to the new account.

ITunes moved my Movie Files

Hi,
This may be a silly question but I have just realised that iTunes has moved my movie files. I had all my movies and TV shows saved on my hard drive and iTunes has moved these files to Library>Movies. It has kept the same folder structure that I was using but simply moved all files and folders.
Why did it do this?
Is there a setting I should have enabled/disabled that would have prevented this from happening?

These specific steps should apply to your setup:
Use File > Library > Organize Library > Rearrange files in folder "iTunes". This puts the media folder into the current layout.
Use File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate files. This copies in the mobile apps and any other files that might not have been consolidated.
Copy the files iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb & sentinel (hidden) and the folder Album Artwork from <Profile>/Music/iTunes to the <root> folder of your external drive Iomega_HDD. Ignore the xml file and other folders for now, they are taken care of elsewhere.
Option-start-iTunes and open the library file at Iomega_HDD/iTunes Library.itl.
Check things work.
Close iTunes, rename the folder Iomega_HDD/iTunes as Iomega_HDD/iTunes Media, start iTunes, check the media folder is now called Iomega_HDD/iTunes Media, edit if not then close and reopen iTunes.
Close iTunes, create a folder called Iomega_HDD/iTunes, move the iTunes library files, Album Artwork & iTunes Media folders inside Iomega_HDD/iTunes.
Option-start-iTunes and open the library file at Iomega_HDD/iTunes/iTunes Library.itl, check the media folder is now called Iomega_HDD/iTunes/iTunes Media, edit if not then close and reopen iTunes.
Check things work again. Enjoy the music!
If at any stage things aren't working properly rewind the most recent change or ask for further help with details of exactly where you've got to.
These steps should get everything sorted with the minimum amount of copying.
Ideally you need a backup of the whole iTunes folder on another drive for security. Having set things up in this fashion it becomes easy to switch to the alternate copy if & when the need arises.
PS the folder currently at Iomega_HDD/iTunes/Album Artwork should be redundant and can be deleted.

.mpg movies mount S L O W L Y ...why?

Here's a question I've wanted to ask for what seems like years.
When I attempt to open a Quicktime .mpg movie (either mpeg-1 or mpeg-2), from CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or the hard drive, the drive spins up, then slows...and the movie takes FOR-EVER to mount...the bigger the movie, the longer the wait.
Why is this?

Playing movie on iphone issue

I transfer a movie onto iphone, start playing and all works well. If I pause for a few minutes and go back to play, only audio comes through and no video. I must restart the movie and both work again. Happens on multiple movies transferred onto ipod

No, there is no way of adding video (or audio) data to an iPhone other than by synicng it with iTunes.
However, if you are using WiFi with your iPhone, you could try streraming video to your iPhone from your home cimputer. There are a couple of things that can cause this issue. The problem could be related to a corrupted QuickTime installation. OR the issue could be caused by trying to play a movie for which you don't have the proper audio or video codec.
Open the movie in a QuickTime player. From the Window menu, you can view the movie info. Look at the info and determine what audio codec is used for the soundtrack. Out of the box, the codecs that QuickTime 7 supports can be found here:

If you find the movie is encoded with a codec not supported by QuickTime, you can Google search for that particular component, and install it.
To get movies to play in You Tube, you need to download the latest Macromedia Flash player.

Trying to import mpg movies shot using a Sony DSC T50 (a sweet little 7.2 Megapixel camera) into fcp....
The video comes across (although it seems to pick up some 'strobing' type artifacts)...but I'm unable to imort any audio with the clips...
I've tried exporting it as a qt movie using qt player, but still no audio...
Any ideas?
