Moving multiple files leaves icon on screen.

I've been experiencing this bug wherein I select multiple files and drag and drop them onto an external drive. The copy completes just fine, but the 'image' of the grouped icons remains frozen on my screen, even across spaces. The only way to clear this ghost image is to restart finder. Is this a known bug? I've searched the forum and was unable to come upon anyone with a similar issue.

On the Mac, you would press Command A (or  A) to
select all.
But, the problem you describe sounds like you are not
clicking and holding when you go to move the files.
If you click and then release, then yes only the file
you are over will be selected.
You need to position your mouse where you want it,
then click and keep holding the button while you drag
it to where you want them.
AH, there's my mistake - yes, I had pressed Control-A and individually selected the various files I wanted to move (Cmd-A selects all which I did not want to do) but then I continued to hold the Control-A while I clicked on it to move the files - I needed to release Control-A before clicking and moving!

I need to move multiple files by date range and/or by filename (using a filter) to another directory.

How can I get the attributes of files in a directory, something you would see when typing in "dir" in a DOS or ls in UNIX. I can parse this info and then make a array of files to move.
The reason for needing this is that I need to move files that are located in another country, and sort them into different directories based on date. Having to read each file for it's file information adds wasted time that I can't afford. I am about to create a dos terminal to do a "dir" command to get the information and parse it out.. but I was hoping LV had a function that can get me that info so I don't have build it.

You should use the 'File/Directory Info' functionality.
This will return the last modificatoin of the file.

How do you run Multiple Files on a single screen?

Greetings; Please only respond if you've ACTUALLY done this, no opinions requested.
I'd like to run several /.mov/mp4 files simultaneously on a single screen to simulate a 360deg view.
If I start 5 cameras filming simultaneously (front, back, left, right, rover), I'd like to sync the files, then combine the video on a single screen in large crossed thumbnails/2"X2" format. For example; Top, Bottom, Left, Right, Center images...
How can this be done in Premier...?...and then exported to a standard format...?

When I did this type of shot before I had to do some tricky stuff....and the hardest part for me was keeping me from shooting the other cameras and those other camera operators, not to mention trying not to see all those reflections of cameras and everything in the car, especially when I flew over the roof on wire ! Eventually I got it done but I had to basiscally use space lights with skirts and diffusion and then tent the car off with silk ( this was in a large football field sized stage )...and then put little holes in the silk for the "lenses"...and then hire a lot of people to walk that silk around as the cameras all dollied on track with the movement of the silk... took forever to get the shot but it was beautiful if you squinted.

ps...I when I edited this just like you want to do, with a lot of simutaneous screens within the frame, it looked so 3 dimensional people actually lost their balance watching it !

Moving multiple files to a new folder in pages

i know there is any easy way to do this but I forgot! I have 20 files to move to a new folder and I don't want to do it individually. How do I highlight them all and move them to a new folder in the least amount of keystrokes?

Drag over them in Finder or shift click to select all.
Nothing to do with Pages.

Reader XI: how to load multiple files so that I can show them in one instance of full screen mode?

It is possible to show a pdf file in full screen mode in acrobat reader XI (windows).
It is indicated that this is also possible with multiple files.
I do not understand how to accomplish this; How can I load more than one file to show in the full screen mode?

Hi Sandesh,
this is simply not supported, not in WebDynpro nor in standard HTML.
A workaround is to upload a ZIP with all files and on server side unpack the ZIP and operate on the single files.

As you know using File upload UI element we can upload only one file at a time. There may be a scenario where user may want to upload any no of files at a time which is not determined at design time. This can be acheived using the ACF UpDownload UI element which requires a security whiltelist to be created

You may have a bad hard drive. The flashing folder with the ? indicates that the system cannot find your hard drive. Use the installation disc that came with your machine. Insert it into the disc drive and restart the machine holding down the "C" key . When the restart shows the Apple screen you can release the C keyWhen the installation screen appears, click on the utilities button. Does the left side of the disc utilities screen show your HD? If not, then your HD is bad or it could be a loose connection. ifixit.com has a good tutorial on how to replace the HF in the Macbook. Follow the instructions to remove your HD. Reinstall your HD and boot up your machine to see if it recognizes your HD. If it does't, you probably will need to replace your HD>
Is your machine still under warranty? If so, take it to your nearest Apple Store for repairs as the repairs will be covered under your warranty. If you bought AppleCare when you bought your computer your warranty is for three years. If you didn't buy the Apple Care, then your warranty is only good for one year from the date of purchase.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Moving files in icon view.

Is there any easier way to move files in icon view?
For example, say I have icon view open in the Finder window. And I want to move a file from the bottom of the window—one out of maybe two hundred. Presently I am clicking and dragging it aaaallllll the way to the top of the window then dropping it into another folder in that same window.
Is there a way to click on the file and then hit a key combination or something that will take me right to the top of the window and save a ton of time?

I think what you are saying is that you have a folder with a lot of files in it, and some sub-folders as well, and what you want is to move some of the files into one of the sub-folders. The easiest way is to open the folder, drag the target sub-folder into the Sidebar, scroll down to the files you want to move and then drag them to the sub-folder in the Sidebar. When you are done adding things to the sub-folder just drag it out of the Sidebar.

Moving 20 or more Files in Icon Form to a New Folder

Hey everyone, I've finally gotten around to hitting the forums to inquire about this.
I like to organize many of my folder, file, and desktop files in Icon view and put them together according to their grouping. Once my desktop would get too cluttered I would go through and clean it up by placing it into sub-folders.
This use to be dandy until the time of one of the OS upgrades, I think from Snow Leopard, but it could have been Leopard. Now, whenever I move 21 or more files into a new folder, the first 20 are fine, but everything after the 20th start to be placed into a grid type of mode. [The pictures below will kind of help demonstrate, I've talked to AppleCare where they repeated the conundrum, and suggested these forums]
Anyways, is there some cap or limit I could change either via Terminal or something? Its really annoying having to move and make icons in 20 file increments, so any help is appreciated.

First, I have a question: your profile says you're on Tiger (10.4.x), but you mention Leopard and Snow Leopard - what is the current OS version you are using?
And, before I try to understand and help, I wonder why you appear to be using the desktop as your filing cabinet so to speak? Or do you file your folders elsewhere after the content has been organized? Having that many files on your desktop will slow down your startup - Finder has to open each and every one of those. I created a folder within the Documents folder which has thousands of files and many sub folders in it - it is not on the desktop though; I dragged its' alias to the dock for one click access.
Now, to your issue - did you make sure that you have your view preferences set correctly for all the folders? Even if that is so, I can see that dragging 20 or more folders containing more than 30 GB all at once could result in some glitches. I never use icon view myself (preferring column view) because it would sometimes just not wind up in the order I wanted. So, unless someone can come up with a more definitive idea, I'd say you need to drag fewer folders or try list or column view to see if it works better.

Multiple file download issues

Hi All,
I have designed an APEX application to download multiple files. I have check box in each row of the file name and a download button.
When the users checks set of checkboxes and click on the "Download" Button, i am expecting the marked files to be downloaded. I am encountering the below issues in this implementation(i.e single file download is fine):
1. When ticks all the check boxes and click download, the files are never downloading. The target URL goes something like this :
www.example.com/abc/bcd/wwv_flow.accept
and there is a cross icon in the new page. No download happening.
2. When ticks few files and leave rest of the files un-checked, there are either junk charactes in target page (or) only the last checked box file alone downloading.

Yosemite 10.10.1 will not allow me to copy multiple files to a NAS -error file in use, but other OS OK.

I am running Mac OS 10.10.1 on a Mac Mini with 16G.
I have a Buffalo NAS and wanted to copy files from one folder on the NAS to another on the NAS.
Under Yosemite I can only copy them one at a time. If I try to copy more than one I get an error message that the file is in use.
Under SNS 10.6.3 (running under Parallels) I can easily copy a large number of files.
Again under 10.10.1 I get the same problem when copying from my desktop to the NAS.
The files are definitely not in use elsewhere and in any case if they were I wouldn't be able to copy one at a time.
When I try to copy multiple files the OS creates greyed out icons of all the files to copy and then aborts when it actually tries to copy the first file.
Any clues please, my current work around is to compress all the files to move, move the archive, expand the archive. This is not going to work for very large numbers of files - l'll be at it all day.

I have been unable to drag and drop large files, even onto the Desktop, let alone onto my NAS - I get the dragged files freezing in the middle of the screen or I get the 'unable to copy / file in use' error.
Talking to Apple Support, they had me set up a new User, and then within that new account, the trouble went away. This pointed to the StartUp items being run in the original troublesome account,
I have deleted all of my 3rd Party programs and then installed them one by one until the problem came back, and in my case (Macbook Air 5,2 running 10.10.3 Yosemite) I found it was DropBox causing the conflict. I have DropBox running in the Menu Bar (top of screen) and disabling sync (bottom left corner) stopped the file copy problem. Try disabling DropBox sync is file copying is failing?

Selecting multiple files with mouse now wonky

Using Windows 8.1 on HP machine

Hardware: Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0
Explorer Folder Option selected: Single-click to open an item (point to select); Underline icon titles only when I point on them
Display: Detail list (Ctrl + Shift + 6)
No touch input
Here's the problem: For as long as I have used windows, I can select multiple files by pressing ctrl-left mouse button. If I want to select multiple consecutive files, I move my cursor down to the last file in the list and press shift-left mouse button.
If I want to select multiple files that are not listed consecutively, I move my cursor along the list of files and press ctrl-left mouse button to select each individual file.
This does not work for me any longer and I do not know why.
Often I will press ctrl-left mouse click and the file will not select. When I move my mouse away from the file I've selected, it will UN-select. If I continue to press the CTRL key while attempting to select another file and float my mouse cursor down the
list of files to select ONE single file further in the list, ALL the files in between the first file I click and the final file will become selected.
Moving the mouse cursor carefully and steadily to select individual files yields varied results; sometimes I can select individual files; sometimes, I can click multiple times to select an additional file and the file will not become selected. More often
than not, I will select several files and earlier files will become unselected.
Extremely frustrating.
I have been a Windows user since version 3.1 and this has never happened to me. I have been a Windows 8.1 user for over a year now and this is a new wrinkle. I have done system restore multiple times and it has not solved the problem. I have uninstalled
Intellipoint/Microsoft Keyboard & Mouse center and reinstalled and the problem has not solved. I have checked every setting for my mouse in the mouse center and cannot see a setting that imposes this feature.
Changing folder options to Double-click to open an item (single click to select) solves the problem. I am able to navigate and organize my files the way I always have. Only happens when single-click feature is enabled. Please note: I have been using the
single-click select feature since Windows XP.
Your guidance and actual solution to this irritant is appreciated.

During my test, I cannot repro this issue even I configure the same setting with you. Maybe a hardware issue or software issue.
Does this issue happen to other mouse?

Get Info for multiple files

Seems to be a beginner’s problem, sorry …
I have a folder on my HD with 250 mp3 files (1.25GB) and want to copy some to a SD card (512MB).
So I (shift) select say 95 files in Finder:
It lists “95 of 250 selected, 723.39 GB available”
- Thanks, but at the moment I’m not interested in the space available on my HD (@AppleDevelopers: Check the Win Explorer for some ideas of usability … and what you should not do …).
To get the size I try the right click at the selected files (blue) with “Get Info” (or the top menu icon) - but now 95 windows pop up with the size of each file, I can’t stop it (fascinating to watch, indeed) and don’t know how to close all “Get Info” windows at once.
1) 95 x Cmd+W or “Quit” Finder from Activity Monitor?
2) How to “Find” the size of a bunch of files?
(I bet it was working before, selecting multiple files with one “Get Info” summary?)

I did not understand the “or press Option when the File menu is open …” instruction, always returns the folder size.
The slow moving shift + Get Info is cool.
